A court in Kenya has acquitted a German man who was arrested while sleeping with the decomposing body of his Kenyan wife and charged with her murder, court officials said Friday. The court in the coastal city of Mombasa ruled on Thursday that there was insufficient evidence to convict the man, identified in court documents as Michael Bibcke Robel, 43, from the city of Hamburg, of murdering Esther Elsi Igoki Munyi in December 2009.
The court heard how the accused was found sleeping next to his dead, decomposing wife at their home near Mombasa after police were alerted by the smell. The accused had also stabbed himself in the chest in an apparent failed suicide attempt. “It is pertinent that under cross-examination by the defence counsel, the doctor did concede that no obvious injuries were seen on the neck. There was no strangulation,” Judge Maureen Odero said in her ruling.

She also ruled that there were no eyewitnesses to the events, and that an autopsy failed to establish the precise cause of death beyond that of asphyxia — partly because the body was decomposing when it was discovered.Judge Odero said the fact the man had remained with his wife’s decomposing body for several days was further evidence of his mental instability, supporting a finding by doctors that he was suffering from mental illness.

“A person of unsound mind is incapable of possessing malice aforethought required to prove murder,” the judge said. Court officials said the man was handed over to a German embassy representative after the trial. The German embassy in Nairobi could not immediately be reached for comment.(AFP)

Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission, Mr. Ekpo Nta, announced on Thursday that the agency had seized 61 houses as well as 45 plots of land from officials of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps. The 61 houses were seized from a single official. Nta said the seized properties were scattered in various locations within the Federal Capital Territory.

He made the disclosure when he appeared before an Ad-Hoc Committee of the House of Representatives investigating alleged land-swap allocations and racketeering in the FCT. The ICPC boss explained that the anti-graft agency began an investigation following a complaint by the Commandant-General of the NSCDC, Dr. Ade Abolurin, that his men were involved in dubious land deals. Nta said, “Impressed by the action of the Commandant-General of the Corps by reporting his own officials for alleged wrong doings and demanding for an independent investigation while other heads of agencies or organisations will be covering up if it were their own organisations, I commenced an immediate investigation by directing the Special Squad I set up on land matters to swing into action.

“The team even started with some officers whom the CG came with. “We made findings; we made efforts to get additional information from other government agencies and banks, which assisted us immensely in the course of our investigations. “In the course of the investigation, we established that six different companies were used in the scam, we froze the bank accounts of certain officers and the companies used. “We seized several properties, including 61 houses, 45 plots of land and a duplex traced to some of the officers. “Interestingly, the 61 houses made up of 40 units of three bedroom flats, 20 units of two bedroom flats and a duplex were seized from a single officer.” Meanwhile, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal, on Thursday lamented that the various anti-corruption agencies in the country were helpless in the fight against corruption.

Tambuwal said both the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and the ICPC had not been able to curb the rising cases of official corruption and embezzlement of public funds. He spoke at the inauguration of the Nigerian Association of Public Accounts Committees in Abuja. Tambuwal said, “Despite existence of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission, cases of officials corruption is on the increase every day.” “If our audit system is efficient and effective, agencies like the EFCC and ICPC would really have less work to do. Right now these agencies are up to their necks with cases and yet stories of embezzlement of public funds keep coming.” Tambuwal was represented at the event by the House Deputy Minority Whip, Garba Datti.

Afia (pictured below) was like many girls her age, fun loving and outgoing until she was killed in an unfortunate accident after a night of clubbing. Afia had gone out with her new boyfriend for a night of drinking and partying in Kumasi, Ghana, after which they got into the car with the drunk boyfriend behind the wheels.

According to eyewitness accounts, they were both drunk when they left the club around 4am. Afia’s boyfriend allegedly drove into a tree and the poor girl who wasn't wearing a seatbelt was thrown out of the vehicle through the widescreen and was subsequently run over on the head by an oncoming car. Upon getting to the scene of the accident, the police arrested Afia's boyfriend for drink-driving. May her soul rest in peace...amen!

Pope Francis concluded Wednesday's general audience in St Peter's Square in Rome by kissing a man covered in boils and joining him in prayer. Photos of the pontiff embracing the severely disfigured man have gone viral online, with commenters praising the pope's for his compassion and kindness. The pontiff kissed the worshiper, who suffers from a rare disease called neurofibromatosis which causes boils, impaired vision and in some cases cancer. It is genetic and not contagious. A 47 year-old man from Brazil has been found living with the skeleton of his best friend who died 13 years ago. Fabio Beraldo Rigol moved in to the cemetry after going broke and being abandoned by his family over his drug addiction.

The former broker only leaves to go into Santa Isabel, Brazil, to ask for food. He claims he found himself penniless and homeless after his business folded and he started using drugs. He said: “I’m more afraid of the living than the dead. I’ve never seen a ghost. It gets a bit quiet here sometimes, but I’m not a big talker, so it suits me. I’m not very good around living people.

“I had to leave the house, and I ended up wandering the streets. One night it was raining hard. I don’t remember how, but when I woke up I was here in the graveyard.” On most days he leaves the graveyard to ask for food in the town centre. He said: “When it’s raining I stay inside. I never want for anything. When I need people there is always someone who gives it to me. God never lets me go hungry.”

But Mr Rigol said he doesn’t intend to stay in the cemetery until his own time comes. He added: “I want to get out of here alive. I still want to have my own house, even if it’s just a bedroom and a bathroom. I want to go back to work if there’s a chance. My live hasn’t finished yet.”

A 28-year old Paraga seller (a popular herbal concotion), Basirat Ogundeji, has been delivered of a baby girl inside a tricycle popularly known as "Keke Napep" at Oregun, Ikeja, Lagos State, southwest Nigeria.
She went into labour on her way back home when the bus she boarded at Ikeja developed a fault and was being repaired by the bus driver at a bus stop in Oregun. When she could no longer bear the labour pains, she quickly sought the assistance of a woman who was selling by the roadside. They both took another tricycle to Oregun Flagship Primary Health Centre but she gave birth while they were on the way to the clinic. It was also learnt the baby’s placenta was later removed by the nurses on her arrival at the clinic. More when you continue ...
The mother of two, while speaking with our source on her hospital bed at Oregun Public Health Centre, said she came to Lagos after her boyfriend refused to take responsibility for the pregnancy.

“ I already had a child for somebody before I met the man that impregnated me at Aiyetoro, Ogun State. He said he loved me but when I told him I was pregnant, he gave me some money to abort the pregnancy and I decided to come to Lagos to make ends meet. “I knew I was due for delivery that day but I had not bought anything for the baby yet. In fact I had no money on me that day and I decided to go and meet a woman at Ikeja who owes me.

“That morning I had to trek to Ojota, begged fo transport fare to Ikeja but unfortunately, I didn’t meet the woman and I was very confused. I begged for money again but could only raise N50. “The bus I boarded from Ikeja enroute Ojota developed fault midway. We were at the bus stop when I felt a sharp pain in my tummy. Then I knew it was time for me to give birth,” she said. She commended the management and staff of Oregun Public Health Centre for their hospitality and all the well meaning Nigerians that came to give her items for her baby.

“I never expected to get the kind of positive treatment they gave me here. They were all homely. The nurses were nice people and people have been coming in to donate gift items to the baby,” she said. She added that once she’s discharged from the hospital, she would go back to her village in Ogun State, southwest Nigeria.

A "prophet" who has been identified as Simon Neruwana, a prominent prophet with the Zion Church was was caught banging a married woman in Mutare, Zimbabwe. The church man who spotted them and took the video is a member of the Apostolic church who was doing his prayers in the bush. The Madzibaba man got curious when the two disappeared onto the ground. He got closer and saw the man pull down the woman’s pants and then his own trousers to just above the knees and the two started having sex. A four-minute tape was also recorded of the prophet and the woman has become an instant hit in Mutare.

However, unconfirmed reports reaching us are that the Mutare Madzibaba one Simon Neruwana, a senior prophet with the Zion Apostolic Church of the bush sex tape has committed suicide. Details are still sketchy but rumours reaching by iHarare News crew from Mutare are that the jilted husband of the cheating wife set a trap for Madzibaba. When the sextape leaked Madzibaba took a “sexual sabbatical” to his rural areas in Bikita in order to evade the long lens of the media. One of the moles informed us tha Madzibaba Neruwana used a lot of money to buy The Manica Post copies last Friday in a bid to stop his neighbours from reading the bush act.

“He tried to conceal the incident, but word had spread around the ghetto. He could not bear the humiliation and left for his rural home,” said a neighbour who requested anonymity. Another resident said Neruwana was popular in the sprawling ghetto because of his ‘prophetic powers’. Veteran Nollywood actor, Pa Ola Ogungbe, popularly called Papa Paragon in the Yoruba sector of Nollywood is dead. Papa Paragon, the father of top actor, Segun Ogungbe was a member of Association of Nigerian Theatre Arts Practitioners (ANTP), Abeokuta, Ogun state chapter during his lifetime. The aged actor died last night at an hospital in Abeokuta after suffering from a brief illness. He was also a veteran Yoruba theatre legend. RIP, baba.
