The Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Mr. Michael Aondoakaa (SAN) on Tuesday said President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua could perform his official duties from his sick bed at the King Faisal Intensive Care and Research Centre, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Addressing a press conference to highlight the achievements recorded by his ministry in the past one year, the minister advised those calling on the President to resign to take a second look at the 1999 Constitution. Aondoakaa also said that the probe into the $180m Halliburton scandal was stalled because witnesses gave evidence in French and it had been difficult translating the information to English in Nigeria. source: http://punchng.com/Articl.aspx?theartic=Art200912162242576 |
Until now, I thought I was the only person who was of this opinion until this:Arsenal legend Ian Wright has branded the Chelsea boo-boys as an "absolute disgrace" to their club and everything that it stands for. The west London side had not conceded in the Premier League in ten games at Stamford Bridge, until Everton recently hammered in three to secure a draw. However, despite salvaging a point from the encounter, the team were booed off the pitch by a section of the crown when the referee brought the proceedings to a close. "Those fans who jeered are an absolute disgrace," Wright said in his column for The Sun. "They might have plenty of money but, in football terms, they have no class whatsoever. "They have either forgotten where their club has come from or they have no idea about Chelsea's problems down the years. "I have got mates who support Chelsea and they are disgusted and embarrassed by the New Age fans who have crawled out of the woodwork to support this now successful club. "A large number of people hate Chelsea because of the way they have bought their success and, I must admit, some of the fans are not helping the club's reputation. "They have either forgotten where their club has come from or they have no idea about Chelsea's problems down the years." This is the most unintelligible comment I have heard from someone who is supposed to be representing a constituency. Before we start castigating Obama and Clinton, Nobody is diputing the fact that Nigeria is the No.1 peacekeeping Nation in Africa. lets look at the facts again; 1. Is 80% of our wealth in the hand of our past corrupt leaders? VERY CORRECT 2. Since Yar'adua assumed office, how many past corrupt leaders have EFCC tried and convicted? NONE 3. Did Ghana beg or solicit Obama to visit them? NO The US just want Nigeria to be more aggressive in its fight against corruption, but how do our leaders respond? Shunning the US Assembly as if its an Obama Assembly. Its true that in terms of peacekeeping, Nigeria is the best in Africa and it ought to be respected for that. But that should not mean that because we maintain peace in Africa, people should not advise us when we are going down the drain (which is what we have been doing since Yar'Adua assumed office). Ghana put their house thats why they are now attracting world leaders. Thats exactly Nigeria should strive at instead of all this crying and whinning from our politicians |
Same old recycled balderdash, to placate the minds of those who are bereft of using their brain to think and rationalize issues beyond the surface. Someone should please shout: Stealing/Looting/Corruption is a Do or Die Affair in Nigeria! seconded The only day I will believe these guys is when they remove themselves from our faces as possible candidates. Otherwise, its the same old story. They will fight themselves to a standstill , polarize the polity and leave us in the doldrums . could'nt have said it better |
Its a pity an assembly man talks this way; and it will even be more disatrous if he talks for Mr Yar' adua. Pulling our troops out of Sudan is telling the world that we have been doing peacekeeping all these years, sacrificing men and resources just trying to please the US and UN. Instead of this childish gibberrish, Nigeria should intensify efforts on anti-corruption, then the world will know that we are serious. Avoiding Obama or UN is not going to solve anything |
Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Defence, Honourable Wole Oke, yesterday said President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua’s absence at the recent United Nations General Assembly meeting in New York, was a deliberate diplomatic protest. Oke said it was "a deliberate diplomatic protest against the United States of America, whose body language towardsNigeria in recent times had been seen by the Federal Government as unfair." This is coming on the heels of indications that Nigeria may pull out her troops serving in the United Nations peace keeping contingent in Darfur, Sudan, in protest over the seeming refusal by Washington and other world powers to appreciate its contribution to global peace.Oke said the Nigerian government had been uncomfortable with the rather frosty bilateral relations between Washington and Abuja, since the election of President Barrack Obama. In an interaction with newsmen in Abuja, Oke said despite Nigeria’s favourable disposition and widespread support for the election of the first African American President of the United States, the first shocker was when Obama shunned Nigeria in his first visit to Africa and rather, chose to make uncomplimentary remarks about the country while in Ghana. As if that was not enough, Oke said the US Secretary of State,Senator Hilary Clinton, who finally visited Nigeria in the course of her tour of Africa, also chided the Nigerian government on the allegations that it has become less enthusiastic on the war against corruption. He said in view of the developments, Nigeria has no businessretaining her peace keeping troops in Sudan, as her role in promoting world peace had not been appreciated by the United States of America. He lamented that despite Nigeria’s leading role in peace keeping operations in Africa and beyond, the United Nations did not accord her the honour of holding the commanding position in the peace keeping efforts in Sudan.“America is only after its own interest. Our President is aware of this, and is uncomfortable with it. That is the reason he stayed away from the meeting. Although Federal Government was represented at the meeting by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ojo Maduekwe, the absence of the President meant something was wrong,” he said. According to Oke, the US can neither claim that Nigeria is not serious about anti-graft war, nor can it dictate to Nigeria on how to curb corruption, as corruption remains a global menace that cuts across various sectors and various climes. Nigeria, he said, has lately demonstrated some level of seriousness in the fight against corruption, given the fact that some persons hitherto believed to be sacred cows have been arraigned on charges of corruption. source: http://www.thisdayonline.com/nview.php?id=156823 Childish diplomacy and immature response. Clearly indicates that we as a nation is not ready to move forward. |

As a result of what the Main Local Organising Committee of the FIFA Under-17 World Cup considers as service inefficiency, Nigeria’s main utility company, the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) may have been kicked out of the global tournament football tournament that the country is hosting from October 25. The last time Nigeria staged a global football competition of this nature, which then was the FIFA Under-20 World Championship of 1999, PHCN; then called NEPA (National Electric Power Authority) played a prominent role. Although then, there were a few reported cases of power inadequacy, but it was to a lot of extent, compared to what the country is having right now, a superior situation. But given what is happening in the sector today, the LOC felt it could not trust the present power generation and distribution system of the country, enough to rely on them for the energy needs of the tournament. The body has therefore decided to fully rely on its own devices and ability to generate electricity during the period of the competition, at least so on match days and in and around all the hospitality tents and areas of the tournament. http://www.thisdayonline.com/nview.php?id=150583 |

The police have so far arrested a dozen staff members of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) over the $200,000 stolen at the association's offices in Abuja last week. Goal.com has been reliably informed that the police has thus far arrested and detained 12 members of staff of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) in its investigations over a missing $200,000, which was meant for the country's World Cup preparations. "So far 12 members of staff have been arrested. They are mainly those in the accounts department," a top official told Goal.com "They have been detained with a special proviso that they should not be allowed any visitors." NFF chiefs have insisted that the theft will not disrupt Nigeria's build-up for Sunday's World Cup qualfier against Mozambique in Maputo. The country's training camp will open on Monday as originally planned with the Europe-based stars arriving Johannesburg in South Africa. Following the sacking of Luiz Felipe Scolari as Chelsea manager today, a spokeman for the coach has insisted that the ultimate decision to dismiss the World Cup winner was taken by Chelsea's multi-billionaire owner Roman Abramovich. And Acaz Fellegger also insists that 'Big Phil' had the backing of Chelsea's chief excutive Peter Kenyon right up until the end. "It seems that Abramovich made the decision," Fellegger told newspaper Lance earlier. "He [Scolari] was not in a comfortable situation despite having the support of the squad and Peter Kenyon." The spokesman also idenitified what he, and perhaps Scolari himself, felt was the real problem at the club: a lack of youth and vibrancy in the first-team. He also brought up the old issue of Robinho's failure to sign for the west Londonders. "The Chelsea squad are old," Fellegger continued. "Felipe tried to rejuvenate it, but unsuccessfully. "He asked [the board] to sign Deco and Robinho, but they only bought Deco." The problem Scolari had with speaking English was never an issue though, according to Fellegger. Scolari did well to reach the level of competence he attained in the language in such a relatively short time. "The English language has never been an issue for him as he has given many interviews in English," the spokeman added. Scolari himself also issued a statement via Fellegger's website confirming that he would speak directly to the media very soon, and wishing his former club all the best. "I wish luck to Chelsea in the three competitions they are involved in," the statement read. "I also take this opportunity to confirm that I will keep living in London and I will respond to the media soon." Sky Sports are speculating that Guus Hiddink - of the Russian national team - and Avram Grant, who guided the club to the League Cup final, the Champions League final, and second place in the Premier League, are the forerunning candidates, possibly together, with the former as Director of Football and the latter as head coach. |
