Politics / 2023: Ejike Ndeke Secures YPP Ticket For Orumba North/South Federal Constituency by UniqueNdy(m): 12:00pm On Jun 03, 2022
I, Ejike Ndeke (Oje Ka Agu 2023) wish to intimate you of my official withdrawal from Orumba South State House of Assembly primary election under our great party, Young Progressives Party (YPP), which was conveyed to the Chairman of Owerre-Ezukala Ward II, Orumba South LGA,
Anambra.

This decision was reached after a wider consultation and very qualitative discussion with the Stakeholders and party hierarchy who in their good conscience believe that my competency, skill, talents and knowledge would not be appropriately maximized at the State Assembly level, considering my contributions and impact so far within the Local, State and at the National level in making the party an enviable one.

“It is a great honour to feel appreciated and loved by our party at all levels and I won't take this privilege for granted.

Interestingly, recent developments within our party, especially in Orumba North/South has made it expedient that I heed to the wise counsel of our party leadership, whose wealth of experience and guidance I vow to cherish always.

Our Socio-political challenges in Orumba North/South are peculiar and require that we each make ourselves available towards changing the narratives.

My commitment to forming alliance with the leadership of our great party in rescuing and re-shaping Orumba North/South Federal Constituency remains strong, even in the face of great turbulence.

“I wish to thank you all for your gracious support, solidarity and overwhelming confidence.

While awaiting for the right time to unveil my next plan, please accept the assurances of my esteemed regards

Ejike Ndeke

Literature / Do Good People Exist? by UniqueNdy(m): 6:15pm On Oct 28, 2018
I have heard that good people don't exist. But I've got a different testimony- they do. Rare gem is different from no gem.

Months ago, I met Mr Elvis Akpobi Majority (Convener of the Not Too Young To Lead Initiative) in an eatery that looks so nice that you might feed on your fingers for food if you have none.

While discussing and presenting my book to him(Mr Elvis), a man greeted from another end of the eatery, showering pleasant initials and titles to Mr Elvis. I never took cognizance of the man to present my book to him. Here, I'd lacked a major quality of a good business man. If not, it would had lingered in my mind to present the book to him. I left them in their discussion with a hurrying feet to go presenting my book elsewhere (which wasn't successful).

Days later, I was chatting and smiling on my bed, I could not go out because I was ill. My phone beeped with messenger notification. The head that appeared looks familiar. It was Mr Nnaemeka Nicholas Nwonu- the man who came into the eatery that day.

Oh my God! I never introduced myself to him that day. He inquired if I was the one who he met at the eatery with Mr Elvis. I affirmed. We got to know each other better that day.

He didn't pick offence, He asked about my book, I gave him details, and he bought ten copies which he gave to some youths in his church.

Bad enough, my ailment could not make me do the presentation myself, my younger brother stood in my place to make the presentation.

Still, Mr Nnaemeka wished me quick recovery, he never felt bad that I never came to him myself, I plan making up for that. He is such a good man. He was never disappointed.

Since they say 'as good as gold', in him I've seen pots filled with golds. He's filled with goodness and greatness.
May God bless and reward him handsomely.

Verily verily, I say unto you that good people still exist.

Literature / What Legacy Are You Building? By Ndubuisi Precious Umebei by UniqueNdy(m): 9:59pm On Jun 20, 2018
WHAT LEGACY ARE YOU BUILDING?

By Ndubuisi Precious Umebei, 13/05/2018.

Todd Brison stated thus, "Death and disease do not diminish who you are. They amplify who you are. In tragedy, words fall flat. Emotions remain. How do you make people feel?"

Leaving a legacy is an important part of our life's work. What will we be remembered for? Will posterity reverence us?

The spark for this write-up came from my visit to the school where I tutored as an auxiliary teacher for a year.

I joined Jesus International Technical School (a subsidiary of Jesus Abandoned Charity Organization Umuezopi Oraifite - A home that caters for young and aged abandoned, disabled, hopeless and forlorn individuals; here their hopes are restored.) because of my unwavering love for humanitarian services. It runs the free education system.

After a year of dedicated service and contribution to both the welfare of the students and people in the home, I had to leave due to circumstances beyond my control; I hated to leave, though.

The news of my departure was a shock to the students. A delegation was sent to plead I still stay in the school. I made them see reasons I should leave. Top on my list was to go further in my education. Thereafter, I had to battle with numerous phone calls and texts from my ex-students (they mostly used their mother's lines!). Fortunately, I was victorious.

Last week, I made out time amidst my tight schedules to visit. On my arrival, they were filled with inexpressible joy. "Master Nd", "Master Nd" echoed the four walls of the school.

Surprisingly, most of them thought I was back and they expressed how glad they were that I was back only to receive the disheartening news that it was only a visit.

Some students expressed how they really wanted me to come back. In the words of one of the students, "Your teaching is the most understood and enjoyed, please we need you back."

If I had led an unworthy life of carefree and nonchalant attitude, I doubt they would want to have me back as their teacher.

As a teacher, the goal was to impact knowledge into my students. I employed the usage of effective teaching and learning techniques that even the student considered as the dullest in class will find my teachings interesting. I believed my contributions enlightened the lives of my students. I made sure I impacted the over 200 lives I met in that school and in years to come, I doubt they would not attribute the very minimum part of their success story to me.

I could remember receiving a memo from a student that read thus, "You are the most caring, loving and understanding teacher I have ever met. I will never forget you in my life. Thank you for everything and God bless you."

Permit me to expose the need for leaving a great legacy behind by quoting three great fellows. Maya Angelou said and I quote, "Your legacy is every life you have touched." Shannon L. Alder stated, " Carve your name on hearts, not tombstones. A legacy is etched into the minds of others and the stories they share about you." And Ralp Waldo Emerson summed it up when he asserted, "The greatest gift is a portion of thyself."

Remark this: The most influential people on earth are those who leave indelible footprints in the sands of time, they are the ones who leave behind incredible legacies; they will live on in the hearts of the people they touch.

You there, what kind of legacy are you building? What message are you passing on to posterity? You have the power to change things for good. You are blessed with the ability to change someone's life; don't misuse it. Yes, you want the world to hear of you, but you have to start somewhere. In your family, place of work, school and community, what are you known for? Start small. Touch lives. You are unlimited.

Politics / Arc. Col. Geoff Onyejegbu by UniqueNdy(m): 9:24pm On Feb 24, 2018
COL. (ARC) GEOFF ONYEJEGBU ANAMBRA SOUTH APC SENATORIAL ASPIRANT.
(THE RIGHT MAN FOR THE JOB)

By Comr Ozoemena Chibueze

According to Henry Kissinger, former U.S. Secretary of State, The task of the leader is to get his people from where they are to where they have not been. Na esoro onye ma uzo! With the release of 2019 General Election timetable by INEC, and as the election keeps gaining momentum on daily basis, all eyes is on Anambra South, the theatre of political matrix and political melting point of Anambra and Nigeria politics in general. The question in the lips of all concerned political pundits is, will Anambra South get it right this time around, who shall we send, kedu onye ma uzo? and who will go for us, do we maintain the unproductive statusquo, or do we embark on soul searching in order to get it right this time around, the answer to the above is not farfetched, Col (Arc) Geooff Onyejegbu is the right man for the job, oma uzo, a leader with vast experience and capacity to deliver legislative goodwill to his people. I will state without equivocation, fear or favour that since the advent of fourth republic, Anambra State have not been blessed with a qualitative representative in the senate, since the death of Senator Chuba Okadigbo (The Great Oyi of Oyi), Anambra South being the worst hit. The recent performance index of the South East Senators give credence to the above assertion. In fact the present senator representing Anambra South is not helping matters and therefore the need for change of strategy and tactics in selecting whom to represent us in the red chamber, we cannot be using same method and expecting different results. Ndi banyi, it is no longer time to sit on the fence and acting as if all is well, Anambra South is in dire need of competent leader in the person of Col. (Arc) Geoff Onyejegbu, with Col Onyejegbu, who is united by the collective good for the people of Anambra South and whose common interest is not limited to total reversal of the unfortunate poor political representation of Anambra South since 1999. No doubt, our senatorial district is at the cross roads, and urgently needs rescue, we are in dire need of a personality with a track-record of credibility and empathy, a personality with a vast administrative experience, a focused personality with capacity, with a memorable antecedents and a man of unquestionable character. Col Geoff Onyejegbu has garnered the required experience to represent the good people of Anambra South in the Red Chamber, having held many positions in the Nigeria Military both at home and oversees. He was also in diplomatic service of Nigeria Embassy in Washington D.C USA. No wonder many stakeholders and good people of Anambra South believed that Col. Geoff candidacy is the best for the job in the senate, being a man with golden heart, a grass root personality, and having interacted with Ndi Anambra South, that aptly qualities him to represent us in the Red Chamber. Truth be told, Anambra South have really suffered lack of qualitative, effective and efficient people oriented representation in the senate and our people are yearning for a change, which Col Geoff is out to bring about. Frankly, Anambra South have plenty abundant untapped human and materials resources, but these have not been explored, resulting in massive unemployment in the district. The resultant effect is high level of frustration and indifference to governance by the people, especially to the teaming unemployed youths. We believe if Col (Geoff) is given the chance, as onye ma uzo, he will synergize with relevant government agencies and global donors to change and turn things around for better. As 2019 draw closer, personality like Col. (Arc) Geoff Onyejegbu with sound mentality, vision, courage and above all God fearing should be considered for the job. He commands acceptably and trust to be saddled with pulling the senatorial zone back from the brink of collapse, Let’s give him our massive support. Ka anyi soro onye ma uzo!

OVERCOMING THE NIGERIAN SECURITY CHALLENGES A PANACEA FOR NATIONAL GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT

One of the major challenges presently facing the Nigerian society is insecurity. It is demoralizing and mind-boggling to continue hearing of various security challenges that have bedeviled this nation. Some of these challenges include: unemployment, bomb blasts, kidnapping, armed robbery, to mention but a few, they are part of the factors retarding our national growth and development.
My essay is centred on the threats, the challenges facing the Nigerian security and how overcoming them can be a panacea for national growth and development. The upholding of justice and peace in our country is nothing to write home about, this has contributed enormously to decline in national growth and development. This ugly phenomenon has been drastically affecting and has affected the psyche of many Nigerians. Nevertheless, the panacea for this retarding national growth and development is overcoming these security challenges.
Unemployment: Unemployment is now a great threat to economic development of Nigeria. In this period of economic meltdown, job loss, and fear of uncertainty; the youth are worried because of the challenges of unemployment facing them. The words of Bishop Dr Mathew Kukah cannot be over emphasized when he was interviewed on the state of peace and justice in our country, he said: “The realities of poverty and corruption around us summon us to higher ideals” (CF. Tomorrow Magazine, Vol. 6 No 1, published All Hallows Seminary, Onitsha, Nigeria). Nigeria is richly endowed with various natural resources that can boost her economy if properly harnessed. But sadly, she is groping and galloping in the dark due to bad leadership which the consequences has pushed Nigeria into myriads of problems. In a scenario where people are unemployed, they move into illegitimate businesses such as kidnapping, armed robbery, among others; thereby jeopardizing lives and properties.
Kidnapping: the issue of human kidnapping or human trafficking is considered to be the third largest source of profit for organized crimes apart from drugs and arms (as reported by UNHCR). From all indications, Nigeria is a country where all source of crimes such as human trafficking and kidnapping thrives. Unemployed youths and graduates venture into kidnapping as a lucrative venture and the only way out. Due to this, most of many Nigerians now live in fear. These unemployed citizens illegally take somebody away and keep them as a prisoner, especially in order to get money. They threaten the lives and properties of other citizens.
Bombings: The Nigerian society has been affected and is still experiencing this ugly phenomenon. It is so demoralizing to continue hearing of various bombing incidents. Most of which happened in the Northern part of Nigeria state such as; Bauchi, and the federal Capital territory. In fact in most of the Northern major cities, this has brought an enormous security challenge to the Nigeria Society. The Boko Haram group has created unrest in the Nigerian society, enhancing and stimulating the Nigerian Security challenges and decreasing the standard of national growth and development.
Armed robbery: it is obvious that cases of armed robbery have been recorded in Nigeria due to high unemployment rates, get money quick syndrome, poverty, greediness, lack of morality to mention but a few. Various unemployed citizens of Nigeria have contributed greatly to slow down of national growth and development due to that they are involve in armed robbery and that possess a threat to the lives and properties of the Nigerian citizens.
Assassination and Murder: assassination and murder is also among the challenges of the Nigerian society. Most of our important and famous citizens are faced with the danger of being assassinated by jealous fellow and opponents. This kind of security challenge is usually and especially for political reasons. On the other hand, Nigerians are faced with the security challenge of being deliberately and illegally killed for any reason whatsoever. So, assassination and murder is a big security challenge to the Nigeria society.
Furthermore, it is obvious that if the Nigerian society cannot overcome these security challenges, there will be various consequences of these security challenges due to that we do not have a peaceful environment. There will not be proper protection of lives and properties due to that we do not have a peaceful environment. There will be ethnic discrimination and this will contribute greatly to these security challenges. Oppression and violation of the poor masses shall prevail, disregard for the rights of the poor masses shall exist. It will also drive away foreign investors. Poverty shall also increase because we are in the situation where the poor get poorer due to lack of resources and the rich get richer. Those in authorities use the resources and income for selfish interests. Also, there will be disregard for public properties and government’s legitimacy is waning. Survival of the fittest will remain the order of the day in the Nigerian society. There shall also be decline in economic buoyancy, financial stability, and educational standards of our country there retarding national growth and development.
Moreover, some things can also be done in order to arrest the situation. The equipment of the police force, armed forces and other security agencies need to be upgraded and also there should be provision of modern equipment and training for them. Their facilities should be upgraded with the state of art technology to stimulate easy communication and early responds to crime alerts. Also, the Federal Government must try as much as possible to ensure that security cameras should be mounted on sensitive areas in every city of the country. This will help to ensure that the lives and properties of the citizens are secured. Also, police stations should be built on remote areas to ensure the presence of security personnel. In another perspective, our neighbouring countries and our Northern brothers should be checkmated. There should be strict preventive measures to make sure that they do not threaten the lives and properties of other citizens of the country. In order to meet up with this, the Federal Government need to mount security blocks in order to checkmate any unforeseen circumstances and excesses.
In addition, the Police force should work cooperatively with all network providers in Nigeria (MTN, GLO, AIRTEL, ETISALAT, and so on) in order to trace any threatening calls and text messages and bring the culprit to book.
Furthermore, the stop and search team of the police force should be enforced. All covered vehicles should be uncovered during search. They should carry out their duties without fear or favour, the same thing applies to those punishing and executing the law, they should carry out their duties without fear or favour. Also, all those people who perpetuate and perpetrate that dastard acts should be brought to book.
All law offenders should be convicted so that we can still have a peaceful environment in our country. The society if becoming more unsafe and dangerous day by day, the lives of the citizens are at stake. Nigeria is facing an unusual security challenges especially that of terrorism. A national conference should be conveyed by the Federal Government in order to achieve sustainable growth and development in our country, Nigeria. The Inspector General of Police should map out or design a security out-fit or strategy that will focus on the fight against terrorism. It is of paramount need that the Inspector General of Police should organize an out-fit basically for stopping something unpleasant or harmful from happening or from getting worse.
Also, the Federal Government and all those in authorities should support and stand by the police force in order to ensure that this project is a success and would not have a side effect. Furthermore, there is a great need for enlightening and educating the general public on what to do on approach to life threatening scenes and also police and other security agents, emergency telephone numbers should be made public with acute awareness.
Also, sometimes the Police force humiliates the poor masses because they are poor. The police force sometimes have regard for only rich citizens. In the same vein, there are a lot of members of the Police force that are obnoxious and iniquitous, they give arms and weapons to armed robbers, kidnappers, and so on, and protect them against being arrested and convicted due to the fact that they were bribed. These bribed and corrupt ones need to be extracted from the good ones. Also, the leader who rule with brutality and with the leadership style of “self” rather than “other” need also to be extracted from the loving, benevolent and caring ones.
Be that as it may, the federal government should create secrete underground security agents to oversee issues of flaw in police, administrative and government bodies and slow to help the police against crime.
“An mind they say is the devil’s workshop” the Federal Government, stake holders and all those in authorities should try as much as possible to provide jobs for these unemployed citizens of Nigeria. They should also support the idea of self-employment and they should hold seminars, lectures for these unemployed citizens, informing them on the essence, the importance of being self-employed. Also they should grant credit facilities and loans to these unemployed citizens so that they can start up business that will earn them stable income.
If the Federal government will adhere to these solutions of unemployment, the rate of our unemployed citizens will decrease and the economic state of our country, Nigeria will be enhanced. Also various security challenges associated with unemployment such as armed robber would be overcome for a better Nigeria.
It is of paramount need to increase the salary of members of the police force and other security agents including the armies. This will enable them to be devoted to their duties, also this will enable them to show high degree of commitment to their duties and would ensure that they carry out their duties as supposed. It will also guide them against getting involves in crimes and other related crimes as giving arms and weapons to armed robbers, protecting all those that perpetuate and perpetrate that dastard acts among others.
The use of tainted car glasses should be stopped by the Federal government. This is because a lot of these kidnappers, terrorist, armed robbers and, so on, use this means to carry out certain odd operations. Furthermore, if somebody is kidnapped in tainted cars it would be hard for the security agents to recognise it so it should be discouraged in Nigeria.
There are a lot of benefits in Nigeria can overcome its security challenges. Overcoming of Nigeria security challenges or insecurity could ensure various benefits such as; presence of the intellectual, encouragement of external investors to come into the country, smooth flow of commercial/economic activities, moral and social stability, ensuring strong and stable health, ensuring the fundamental human rights and dignity, development of social facilities, to mention but a few.
Nigerians should also heed to the advice of the Kwara State Governor; Dr Abdulfatah Ahmed, he said “it is only the proper guarantee of lives and property that will ensure sustainable growth and development in our society, no matter how much resources that are available, once the concept peace is not available, every other thing will be in shambles; hence we must jealously guide our peaceful environment.” Summarily, indeed so far it, these security challenges can be overcome, there will be national growth and development. Also, as emphasized by the past Kwara State Government, “Peace and national security remain the only panacea for sustainable growth putting sentiments apart, in order to ensure sustainable peace and unity and also to ensure national growth and development.

Chinua Achebe Lives On
By
Umebei Ndubuisi Precious

The demise of professor Chinualumogu Achebe who was one of Nigeria’s erudite scholars caused a stand still in the world.
He was respected worldwide for his renowned intellectual disposition, literary prowess, and life of honour and activity.

As news of his death reached out, sighs of grief and gasps of pain echoed all over the country, Africa and the world at large regardless of tribe, religion, race and
ethnicity. Our solace is in the fact that he bequeathed to us worthy legacies. Nigerians and indeed Africans are proud to have a man who used his literary works to uphold and ‘sell’ Nigerian culture to the world rightly and to promote peace and unity in the country.

Achebe has written a definitive assessment of contemporary issues in Nigeria in lucid and engaging prose and poems. Humanly, we could not have Achebe forever; it is not given to any man to be. Although death is inevitable, in the annals of literary history of Nigeria, Africa and the world, and in our hearts, Achebe lives forever.

At 82, he could not be said to have died young. However, going by the records of his achievements in his lifetime and the bold indelible mark he has etched on our collective history, he is still.

For us, this is a moment of sober reflection and potent challenge, a
cause for personal commitment and renewal. Achebe is a true success, posterity will remember him as a great man.

The legacies he left are indelible on the sands of time, he affected lives for good, he infused courage in the mind of the timid and restored the hope to the disillusioned. The Igbo people are proud of him. He is a profound source of inspiration to our generation and our generation is better because he unleashed his greatness and lived a life worthy of emulation.

Is your life worthy of emulation…..?
