PoliticsNavy Arrests Alleged Fake Commander by unlessgod(op): 11:11pm On Jul 28, 2013
The Nigerian Navy, NN, has arrested a man allegedly masquerading as a commander in the service, at Liverpool area of Lagos.
The suspect, Alfred Oniye, who could have passed for a genuine commander to both serving naval personnel and civilians alike, was reportedly arrested by a naval patrol team. The suspect had full naval uniform, identity card and rank.

Parading the suspect, weekend, Executive Officer, NNS Beecroft, Captain James Pindar, said Oniye met his waterloo following the suspicious manner he acknowledged salute from the ratings on patrol. Before he was arrested, he explained that following several complaints received on the likes of Oniye, the Navy commenced a clampdown which had led to several arrests.

Explaining how he was arrested, Pindar said: “The way he acknowledged the greeting gave him away and when asked to identify himself, he said he was the Commanding officer, NNS Pathfinder, Port Harcourt. That again, gave him away because that post is manned by a Commodore, and not a Commander. He is one among several others who has been giving the Navy bad image. We arrested six of such persons recently. We are therefore, warning others to desist because the NN is not the type of service they can impersonate”, he stated.

However on his part the suspect disclosed that he was a Merchant Navy personnel, saying he only identified himself as a Navy Commander to avoid being beaten to stupor by the naval ratings.

According to him, “I alighted from my car for an inspection when I was arrested. I identified myself as a Commander on NNS Pathfinder because I did not want them to kill me. If I had not said that, they would have killed me because immediately I said so, the beating reduced and they brought me to their base.

“ I am not a fake Merchant Navy personnel. I even told them to take me to our directorate in Olodi Apapa area of Lagos to ascertain whether I am a Merchant navy or not.

“I have not committed any crime because this uniform is what Merchant Navy used to colonize us. It was when we were having problem with the Navy that the directorate instructed we changed the appellate to cross.”

Asked where he got the uniform from , he claimed to have bought it from an undisclosed person, while Naval authorities said he would be handed over to the police for prosecution - See more at: http://www.ogusbaba.com/2013/07/navy-arrests-alleged-fake-commander.html#sthash.DR2xlX0x.dpuf

Pro-Amaechi Youth Mobilise in Vain
More than five thousand youth loyal to the Rivers State governor, Chibuike Amaechi, gathered at the Port Harcourt international airport spoiling for a fight, but left disappointed.

It will be recalled that on Tuesday, youth loyal to the minister of state for education, Nyesom Wike, known as the Grassroots Development Initiative, harassed four visiting governors from northern Nigeria who were in Port Harcourt on a solidarity visit to the governor.

Even though Governor Amaechi’s loyalists, the Ikwerre Youth Movement (IYM) were present at the airport, they were outnumbered at least two to one and could not stop the larger mob from perpetuating their violent act on the visitors.

On Thursday, with South West Governors expected, more than five thousand pro-Amaechi youth, under the aegis of the IYM, stormed the Port Harcourt International Airport to “protect” their visitors.

One of the youth told Nigerian Telegraph that they were caught unawares on Tuesday and would not want to see their brother (Amaechi) embarrassed again.

“A few of us were here on Tuesday and we saw what happened and were too powerless to act. That is why we have come in this large number to protect our visitors from anyone that may want to do them harm,” he said.

However, possibly to avoid another confrontation, the governors did not land at the international airport but at the more secure AirForce base.

The youth from Ikwerre Youth Movement were led by Emma Chinda, the state commissioner for Agriculture, as well as Welendu Amadi, the council chairman for Ikwerre Local Government Area.

Foreign AffairsCRIME: Boy Stabbed To Death While Defending Girlfriend by unlessgod(op): 2:26pm On Jul 17, 2013
A 15-year-old boy was stabbed to death in a park while standing up for his girlfriend who had been abused on Facebook, it was claimed today. Hassan Mahmood was attacked in South Yardley, Birmingham, last night following an argument between two groups of youths. Friends of the schoolboy claimed he was defending his girlfriend when he was knifed. Police were today questioning two 16-year-olds, a 15-year-old and a 17-year-old on suspicion of murder.

The 15-year-old and 17-year-old were subsequently released without charge, while the two 16-year-olds remained in custody tonight. West Midlands Police said that a post-mortem examination will be carried out on Hassan’s body tomorrow. Paramedics rushed to scene yesterday after the fight broke out. A large area near Oaklands Park remained cordoned off today while police investigate.

Detective Inspector Tom Chisholm, who is leading the investigation, said: ‘We are aware that there were groups of young people in the area, some of whom may have left the scene before the police arrived. ‘There is some suggestion that this was a fight which has tragically gone too far. I would ask that people who were in the park or anyone else with information to contact us immediately.’

Police said there was no indication that the killing was gang related. A friend, who was at the scene today, said teenage ‘banter’ suddenly turned into violence. ‘It was a fight that got out of hand,’ they said.

‘Apparently another lad wrote something nasty on Facebook about his girlfriend and he found out and challenged him. ‘It started out as a bit of banter but spiralled and someone pulled a blade. I wasn’t there but I know people who were. Hassan was just sticking up for her and got killed for it. It’s wrong.

‘I think the lad said his girlfriend was a s*** or something like that.’

22 Children killed and 25 Sick After Eating Food Poisoned With Insecticide [SEE PHOTOS]
At least 22 children died and many others were sick after eating a free school lunch that was tainted by a heavy dose of insecticide, officials in India said today.
It was not immediately clear how chemicals ended up in the food in a school in the eastern state of Bihar, although one official said the food may not have been properly washed before it was cooked.

CelebritiesStar Music Trek: Timaya Performs Without Shoes In The Rain by unlessgod(op): 11:23pm On Jul 09, 2013
Not even the heavy downpour witnessed in Aba yesterday could prevent music fans from enjoying the exhilarating performances from some of Africa’s finest artistes who had come to perform at the highly anticipated 5th leg of Star Music Trek,
The event, which held at Recreation Club Aba, was touted as Aba’s biggest open-air concert and witnessed a deluge of fans, many of who came in from cities as far flung as Enugu, Port Harcourt, Nnewi and other surrounding environs to watch the event.

Apparently the ‘Limpopo fever’ had reached Aba far earlier as Kcee mounted the stage to wild cheers from the crowd. The singer’s most popular hit of the year, ‘Limpopo’, has stayed number 1 on a number of music charts across the country and gave a good account of himself singing other tracks including Nack Me and Okpekete.

Wande Coal had no problems entertaining his captive audience. From the moment the Black Diamond sang his first verse to the last notes of his latest hit ‘Rotate’, the artiste had only to raise his microphone casually to receive the thunderous crowd’s response to his every line. He also sang Bumper to Bumper, You Bad, The Kick and others.

Performing right in his ‘hood’ with thousands of his fans hanging on his every rap, Mr Raw already had an ‘unfair’ home advantage. The artiste worked the stage effortlessly for 45 minutes with his classic Obodo, Ise and Strong Thing’ much to the delight of eager music lovers.

Budding rap star, XBUSTA who was discovered in Enugu by MI was also invited to free style on stage during his performance.

Naeto C’s fervent prayers apparently had the right impact on the crowd raising it to fever pitch as he interrupted his performance to invoke blessings on the crowd. He also performed his award winning hits 10/10, 5&6 and Can You Do It? during his 45 minute set.

Timaya’s exhilarating performance capped a stellar night. The Egberi Papa 1 of Bayelsa performed barefoot in the pouring rain-remember Tiwa Savages’s performance?- churning out hit after hit at the request of the fans. The popular artiste took time out to delve into the crowd repeatedly performing Malo Nogede, Plantain Boy, Bom Bom and many more hits.

Timaya could not refuse pleas from the audience who urged him to continue performing even after his allotted time had expired

The 10-week music tour has visited FESTAC, Lokoja, Owerri, Enugu and Aba bringing thousands of music fans from different cities to selected concert venues across the country.

Nnewi, Asaba, Abeokuta, Agege and Surulere are some of the other cities Star Music Trek will also visit during the tour.

The Trek ends on August 10, 2013 with a Grand Finale at the National Stadium, Surulere in Lagos.
