babajeje123: Canada is never in my plan and can't even be. May be for a visit but to reside, no way! My post here was to find out if the US has something similar to skilled worker visa that can be explored. Like you suggested, will do a little research and hopefully will get necessary information. Thank you sis. You could start with getting the CISSP and seeing if you could land a role with a US company that will complete the visa process for you. It could also be useful in the UK/EU |

You can mention intra company transfer, chances of getting sponsorships from above, school route, coming in as someone spouse, applying from abroad etc
Life no hard na
Nawa! There is a saying 'heaven helps those who help themselves'. U are already in the UK, u are already in the IT industry. U are not starting from zero. U need to have some initiative regarding ur goals. If the goal is just moving to US, then that is the goal and you can accomplish that. If the goal is to move to US to work in the IT industry, then the step to the goal that I know of is getting to a high level in your field to become desirable. Smh Una no sabi. I dey IT industry for Yankee. I no know which area of IT the guy dey but no area of IT wey no dey pay for here. If you focus on attaining higher level certifications in the area of IT you are currently in, it does 2 things for you. 1. you are likely to get higher paying jobs where you currently are 2. you have more opportunities and avenues to get a job in US If you just dey postulate say you want move to US and you dey into IT, you just dey waste person time |

You get sense Ariketolu: This quite on the Xtreme. Why and how has he lost her?
As regards relocating your wife first before you do, that is a wise decision for many reasons including economic, as far as you both have weighed every option to come to such agreement.
The only tricky part here is the 5 month old baby to be left with you. That child really needs all the warmth, affection and nutrients for growth at this stage, and I hope the mother as well is prepared for all the consistent emotional blows before she is reunited with her son.
However, for her to start a new life abroad, deliver on her employer's expectation, and adjust to the new culture, people and environment, She need a good deal of space, time, observation and interactions which nursing an infant may inhibit. Moreso, coming ahead will help handle the preliminary bottlenecks which will benefit you all in having a better start up when you finally join her. Except you can raise all the money to move you all at once, My advice is that you get her mom or aunty or any experienced mother that you both are is comfortable with to help nurse the baby.
Also, set a target date not too Long to have you guys join her and start working towards it now or as soon as she gets there |

Ynix: My advice to you don't rush to travel. Good advice If you are earning $3000 save up for schooling with the intention of landing a high income job. Good advice Also consider looking at becoming a SCRUM MASTER, TAKE COURSES AROUND PROJECT MANAGEMENT, MONITORING AND EVALUATION AND NECESSARY CERTIFICATION. IF YOU CAN DO THAT WHILE HERE, IT WILL HELP YOU LAND BETTER JOBS WHEN YOU ARE THERE. NO. Do DevOps or Back end development and IAAS. PM and Scrum Master have low barriers to entry and the competition is great. Language and accent will be an initial issue ALSO, DO YOU BEST TO BE ABLE TO AFFORD TO FUND YOUR PERSONAL EXPENSES IN THE FIRST 2 TO 3 MONTHS. 6 Months is more advisable
YOU CAN ALSO CHOOSE TO BECOME A LOCAL AUTHORITY IN YOUR FIELD AND MAKE EXTRA CASH FROM TEACHING WHAT YOU KNOW. |

hazinibones: Hello Nairalanders,
I have this decision bothering me. I know it is a personal problem, but I believe everyone need some guidance at every point in life.
Straight to it, I have been considering Japa for over two years now and I think the opportunity might be here but I am having a cold feet.
I recently started working for a foreign company as a software engineer and the pay is decent when converted to Naira. Enough to live an averagely comfortable life. But my challenge now is that, I have been talking to some friends that are outside the country and they keep telling me how life is not easy there and cost of living is super expensive out there.
I currently earn $3000, which I plan to either save and travel or startup a business here in Nigeria. Please, Nairalanders with experience, is it worth japa to live an almost average life for almost the rest of your life or investing here in Nigeria and growing wealth?
The healthcare and quality education benefit is there as an advantage for japa though.
Thanks in advance for your responses! Depends on your circumstances and your discipline. You can make a decent living in the US and UK if you are focused and disciplined enough to improve and develop your current skill-set. At your age japa is manageable and you have 30 years or more of work life to plan for. Abroad life is level, what you achieve yourself is what you will have. Public Infrastructure is provided for everyone. Naija life is full of ups and downs and the ones that can achieve the ups enjoy it but the downs can be real low. Analyze your circumstances well and you can make an informed decision |

sonnie10: If a couple earns $500k yearly, they could pay that low in taxes . Here is a simple illustration that are all tax exempts Assuming they both earn $250k They can each contribute half to social security So $250k would be left On that $250k, they can contribute $50k each to 401k So $150k is left On that $150 they can contribute $7k each to medical expenses tax exempt So $136k is left On the $136k they can make charitable donations of $10k each So $116k is left On the $116k they can contribute $6k towards child care to get deductions So $110k is left.
Therefore for taxable income of $110k and with 2-3 qualified dependent children, they might even get some money back during taxes.
Hope this helps to answer your question? You cannot contribute $250K towards social security. You can earn 500K as a couple and only pay 12% depends on your circumstances and deductions and your tax accountant and how you earn the money |

Abi1985: Ok you really for real do not know. Well i will disclose my own. I pay up to $3500 annually in property tax . The city where I stay in raise the property tax by 500 $ every year. I know what I am talking about ; you do not have to believe me. This is reality not some read up Google news report. God forbid I fall sick and cannot Pay the property tax. That home is a gone to the city. At least in Nigeria, na you get am. You have to own the house/condo/property before you pay property tax. And you deduct it from your federal income tax and you can pay it as part of your mortgage escrow monthly. Property tax is the least of the disadvantages of living in the US. You cut your cloth according to your cloth. Actually, paying property tax is a sign that you have progressed |
