In my view our problem is mainly Zidane then on the second level Isco and to some extent Asensio.

Last season Bale was injured and Isco slotted in well. But the difference is that James was always around to mix things up.
James was a no nonsense direct player with a single purpose of making an impact at the opponents goal.
Isco on the other hand is a flare player ready to do 20 dribbles per game to make fans 'happy' even at the detriment of the game play of the squad.
Last season he could not do this as he was going to loose his place to James. Sadly this season Zidane is indulging this habit of his so much so he now even has a new responsibility not freely roaming the pitch and encroaching on other players section of the field.
The complaints would have even been less if he does the interference with swift purpose of helping movement forward. But no he often does 2 to 3 touches before making a pass.

Zidane also has started to indulge Asensio with this free role madness. But unlike Isco Asensio is slightly more direct with game play but still creates imbalance with interference.

Imagine the extremely free role Isco is having.
