Maybe you hear of Maitama in Abuja only in the news. Ask any agent how much one room self contained costs in Maitama and Asokoro.

You may also choose to ask how much one room self contained costs in Ikoyi, V/I, Lekki phase 1 and Ikeja, especially off Allen avenue and Adeniyi Jones area. All those will disproof your claim about Enugu and show you that Enugu’s rent is not in anyway comparable to the aforementioned areas.

... with the number of irresponsible drivers in Lagos who is going to respect maximum speed, the only deterrence is a physically road hump. I drive both in Lagos and London, most drivers in Lagos are selfish, inconsiderate and reckless compared to London drivers. When deaths like this happens through driving I am not surprised.

I got a job to transport some surgical equipment from lagos to Abuja . As usual , I left lagos past @ night . Got to Abj quite early as I ws heading to Utako , just by city gate FCT , with the usual early morning traffic , I applied breaks, e no catch o , pumped the break pedals like it was an Olympic final game , still zero friction , thank God I was @ the last lane as there was an E-class in my front ,I left my lane & faced concrete slab used for road diversion to staduim & slammed into it . Lots of damages , thanks to FRSC on stationed there .

Have you experienced brrakfailure while driving or in a vehicle/ bike .
Kindly share your experience..
I don't really understand when people say they have brake failure, because the brake is one of the most critical safety part of a vehicle that is why it is fully independent of engine power or the car electronics. Firstly their are two parts to a car braking system the foot brake and the hand brake. Foot brake work through hydraulic system. The hydraulic hose runs all the way from the foot brake pedal to the brake disc, so it doesn't just fail instantly, if there is a leakage in the hydraulics then the effectiveness of the foot brake is reduced over a period of time, thus the driver will notice this reduction in the efficiency of the braking system when driving. Secondly the hand braking system is totally independent of the foot brake system in its design because it works by a chord being pulled by the driver.
So in essence if you notice a weakness in the efficiency of the foot brake you then apply the hand brake and one can also resort to reducing engine power by dropping to a lower gear because this also act to slow down the vehicle.

Crime / Re: Now I Understand Why People Do Commit Suicide by uvie66: 6:53pm On Jul 24, 2023
Sirlancelot:
Hi pals, this is not a right platform to drop this but won't mind sharing this.Just barely 2 years ago,I got married to my wife and God blessed me with beatiful twin boys of almost one year now.I have been managing life back and forth after many unsuccessful attempts to get a gainful employment ever since I finished my degree in 2015.
I have done many odd jobs like security guard, cleaners all this while just to put food on my table but it's not really enough.Just last year I joined one of this freight company in lagos as dispatch rider which have been really helpful in putting food on my table all these months. I thank God for that opportunities.
Now what really warrant this write up was that I went to deliver an order at a popular restaurants in Lekki to a customer but the client turn out to be my secodary mate whom I last saw 12 years ago.The sadest part is that the guy just ignore me.Very true,my cloth looks dusty and unkempt due to nature of my job.I guess he does not want to associate with failures amidst his friend around the restaurant.
My soul left me that moment,I don't even know how I got home.I think suicide is only for the weak but no,the brave also have a fair share.Life is really not fair out here.
Four months ago ,I lost my mum to high blood pressure. Painfully I can't take her to morgue for embalmed till she start bloating before we decide where to bury her.See ehe, this experience I just encountered with my old class mate break me totally.
I have never feel suicidal like this all my life. The only strength that keeps me alive is my two boys am seeing everyday .At 32 years,my only achievements is my children.Omo life can be funny.I know people have story to tell, but getting an interactive encouragement from you guys can do much.
How can having children be an achievement?

Crime / Re: South-east: Army Is Forcing Travellers To Come Down From Vehicles At Checkpoints by uvie66: 8:09am On Jul 24, 2023
Shehuyinka:
SOLDIERS of the Nigerian Army, deployed under ‘Operation Udoka’, are forcing travellers in the South-East to disembark from vehicles at numerous checkpoints that litter the region, checks by The ICIR have shown.

On getting to any of the checkpoints manned by heavily armed soldiers on major highways in the region, vehicles – both commercial and private – would stop to discharge passengers. The passengers, mostly travellers, will then trek across the checkpoint. On getting to a considerable distance beyond the checkpoint, they will stop and wait for the vehicle that was conveying them.

The driver will then move the vehicle past the checkpoint to meet the waiting passengers, who will subsequently return to their seats in the car.

The journey will continue until the vehicle gets to the next checkpoint, where the process will be repeated.

The ICIR’s correspondent, who experienced the situation while travelling across the South-East states, noted that the development frustrated motorists and travellers in the region.

During a trip from Enugu to Umuahia, Abia State capital, on Friday, July 21, the commercial bus boarded by The ICIR correspondent was made to stop and discharge passengers at eight different checkpoints.

At each of these checkpoints, passengers – both young and old, male and female – had to come down and trek to the other side to wait for the vehicle.

Interestingly, vehicles and passengers are not searched at the checkpoints. But The ICIR correspondent observed that the heavily armed soldiers were alert as they watched the passengers walking past the checkpoints.

During the morning period, when a lot of people are travelling, the checkpoints are usually crowded with so many passengers who disembarked from several vehicles. The vehicles, mostly buses, which had discharged the passengers, will also queue up. They wait until the passengers have walked past the checkpoints before driving through, one after the other, to pick up their passengers.

The ICIR correspondent observed that when the volume of traffic at the checkpoints is high, some passengers have difficulty identifying the particular vehicle they boarded.

The repeated disembarkation at numerous checkpoints is not only stressful, it also wastes time, making the journey last much longer than it should.

The journey from Enugu to Umuahia, which ordinarily should be less than one hour, lasted more than two hours.

“Is this a war zone? It is only in war zones that you can witness this,” an aggrieved passenger muttered as travellers waited for their vehicle to move past the checkpoint and pick them, to continue the journey.

Many passengers expressed anger at the situation. A passenger, who said she has gotten used to the situation, being a regular traveller on the route, explained that she starts her journeys two or three hours earlier than usual in order to meet up with appointments. “If not, you will not arrive on time. You have to add extra one or two hours in order to meet up,” the woman told other travellers.

An old woman, who complained of arthritis, could barely walk across one of the checkpoints and had to be supported by sympathetic co-travellers.

ConfusePoint:
Ranting. Ranting. Ranting.

I have decided to rant out my predicaments on this forum today.

What is the way out of poverty for me?

One inlaw is even living with us, making it 8 in number, all in one room.

This thing don come big pass me.

I know most of you here would blame me for impregnating a woman to give birth to that number of children but then, life is life. It happens like that sometimes.

They say a poor man's prayer is "e go better" but instead of things to get better in Nigeria, everyday things get worse.

Truth is, except I drive myself out of this mess to a better life for me and my children, this poverty that is so stricken will likely be extended to my children, which I really don't want.

No two ways about it except ...

But like a car without tyres, can it move even if it has fuel? Definitely no.

For 4 days now, I sleep outside in an abandoned car because of financial war at home. I can't go back home and I even feel like never to go back there but should I abandon them like that and run away? To where?

When I went to the market the other day with 5k to buy food items for the house, I was crying and talking to myself on my way back because I came back with almost nothing.

Nigeria have succeed to plug life out of poor Nigerians. The poor cannot breathe again. Let's die and go.

Advice: never give birth when you are not financially strong. Unfortunately, I've learned my lesson the hard way.

Life happens.

How do I help this family better than I am trying?

Wishing you the best in all you do.
....mmmm, you gave birth to one on the basis of e go better, e no better, you continue with two, e still no better, three nothing still show, then four...I beg your matter taya person.

NYSC / Re: NYSC: My First Encounter In South-East As A Corper by uvie66: 1:38pm On Jul 18, 2023
Promicah:
I feel overwhelmed by what just happened.

A little background information: I lived and studied in Ogun precisely before my called-up letter came. I saw Abia in my call-up letter and the next thought that crowded my mind was the hatred projected during the just concluded election.

Since I had no connection, I chose my fate and had to skip my reporting date to camp. After losing every hope of redeployment, I decided to follow the next batch.

Our driver stopped in Lokoja and we rested before we continue the next day to Abia.

I had to make a plan that when I have money, I will buy their native wear to disguise myself. Immediately I stopped at the Abia park, I entered the next bus to the orientation camp.

After our three weeks in camp, I reported to my PPA.

Yesterday, I wanted to get a recharge card from a kiosk beside the road and I met an Igbo man. He looked at me and immediately fear gripped me.

He asked me whether I was new in the area, I wanted to lie and say "no". But my mouth betrayed me.

He smiled and bought the item in the attached picture below.

What happened to us? I had to repent. Truly Nigerians are loving people. I couldn't contain my joy.

This is my first time in the southeast and just this singular act from yesterday has changed a lot about how I see Nigerians.

I know there are a lot of agitations but yesterday a Nigerian showed kindness to a Nigerian. It's officially my 1 month and 15 days in Abia.

Sir Nlfpm.od. This is my latest experience.
So as at University didn't you mingle with other Nigerians from diversified background?
