Nairaland GeneralWhat Are The Features Nairaland Is Missing? by Uwadiegwu1(op): 3:42pm On Nov 07, 2014
Hello,

Please i want your opinion on this survey. I know most of us like it here because it is a place where you feel relaxed and chit chat with others. I want your voices to be heard and wanted to ask, what features or change you have or would need Nairaland to implement. I know we're in 21st century and we enjoy things that are modern/new, but i have heard a lot of complains that NL has not changed since it started. He is very much interested in advertising and earning a living from it. The forum is not organized, he is not a public person like Linda Ikeji blah blah. Now, it is your time to voice them out here.

Examples:

https://www.nairaland.com/1363414/changes-want-nairaland

Features like:
Better Private Messages.Nairaland's PM feature is quite primitive.Your email is given out teach time you contact someone.
A more appealing UI.I have seen some cool looking forums.
A polling System.People with privileges should be able to create polls.
A Homepage.Every user should have a standard page to showcase their best topics, posts, business and products.(Not talking about profile page).
A hierarchy system based on posts, time registered or likes.e.g child, adolescent, adult, mod.
Also a quick reply form at the bottom of the page will do.
Author Pane at the left side of every post with info about commenter and a link to PM.
Use of Javascript. For liking posts and a quick edit button for modifying posts without reloading pages.

Nairaland AdsRe: Discussion Of Nairaland's New Targeted Ads by Uwadiegwu1: 7:02pm On Jul 15, 2014
Vuproff: Please i made payment for my ads Yesterday 14/07/14, but am yet to see it reflect on my wall, in other to proceed with my adverts.

I want to advertise on this site, but it looks like there is a lot of protocols before your ads can be displaced. Why is that you don't have a system that people can make online payments just like other websites when you want to advertise?
This is really frustrating - Also i see that you have hiked the price of your home page ad per week (recently - N43k to N93k (wowsmiley)

Why the hike?
Nairaland GeneralDo You Think Nairaland.com Needs SSL In Order To Continue? by Uwadiegwu1(op):
Hi folks,

I know most of you would been wondering why do i need to ask this question? Well, most of you are also aware that nairaland was attacked last month and everyone here has been asking "Seun where is my "likes" what happened to the posts i have been following' etc. If you notice, you will find out that NL has not recovered fully from the lOST of data on this website. Although, he is much interested in advertisement which he restored in three days intervalssmiley. Most websites with vast traffics like NL have SSL even though there is no payment transactions. This is to provide the users the full assurance that they're safe in what ever they're doing on the website. I could imagine that if NL has SSL, the attack would have been prevented. Since I have been coming here, i have seen that most users take this place as a place to gossip, going to different sites to read news and bringing the topics here to discuss or chit chat. This is good, but i have not seen anything in "interests" that has been discussed here. For example, how can the country Nigeria be better than it is now or how an issue be solved or what's your input in a resolution, Can you advise me if my wife is cheating on me, how can download MP3 etc. So, having seen what is happening on NL , do you think Seun/NL needs SSL in order to secure the information we have/share here and the website we all love dearly. Please your input is very necessary to move ahead on this topic.

Thanks

Well stated..I live in America too...and i definitely understand where you're coming from.
dasparrow: @Bolded

This is what I keep telling people. I will not discourage anyone from migrating and looking for greener pastures but with the way things currently are in the western world, I will strongly advise anyone who already has a job in their home country and are living a comfortable life to stay put. The economic recession in the western world is still lingering on and jobs are hard to come by even for people who are born and raised in America and hold advanced degrees from American universities. It is rough out there. Even Nigerian-Americans - in other words Americans born and raised in America to Nigerian parents - are coming to Nigeria and looking for ways to get a job and settle here if the opportunity presents itself. The western world is not what it used to be in comparison to what it was when I went back there in the 90s.

@Post

I can relate to this article because I also suffered severe stomach problems when I first migrated to USA in the late 90s. Due to poor nutrition when I first arrived, I developed a severe stomach virus that required me to go for an endoscopy and then be placed on strong antibiotics. I really suffered when I first arrived in the USA. Looking back, you can't pay me to go through that kind of suffering again especially because America is no longer what she used to be as a nation. I watched with shock as so many indigenous Americans lost their homes because they could no longer make their mortgage payments. I watched as so many indigenous Americans had to sell their cars for dirt cheap just to pay their bills and I watched many indigenous Americans in their 20s and 30s moving back in with their aging parents because they have no jobs and as such cannot afford rent and are forced to live with their parents again. Others are postponing starting a family because they can barely afford to provide for themselves talk less of providing for children.

The world has become a tough place. I feel sorry for our generation but feel even worse for the future generations. The western world used to be some kind of a haven for people from poorer countries to go to and start life afresh while giving them an opportunity for a better life. But now that the western world is going through a seemingly never ending recession and tightening her borders, I wonder where people from developing countries go to now in search for greener pastures? Hmmmm.
