I have been watching what is going on at the home page of NAIRALAND where people go and post topics/news head lines they found from other websites.For example, you see people go to websites like Guardian and after reading a topic there, they would love Nairalander to share opinions about it. Think of how website like Yahoo started and where the website is now spreading news and this keep changing everyday Just wanted to ask if you think it will benefit this great website (Nairaland) if SEUN should start having news headlines himself? To myself, I think this would be necessary and will bring more traffic to the site. What do you think and your opinion will be greatly appreciated.

okpara ugo: I agreed with all your assertion but the bolded. Most stocks which were on N5 in 2008 are sill below N1 as we speak...

Remember that Dangote cement may not have been listed in 2008 and right now forms more than 25% of total market capitalization.

Our decision to use the 154 by 95 pixel format for direct ads on Nairaland was made for many good reasons, but it presents advertisers with a unique challenge which is also a unique opportunity for good graphic designers with a good understanding of marketing. The challenge of designing effective ads at that size.

To make things easier for our advertisers, I've decided to launch a web advert design contest. The rules are as follows:
1) Post your name or the name of your company, and a link to your website and portfolio.
2) Upload up to four original web adverts (154 by 95 pixel .png files), advertising your web advert design service.

Our small panel of judges will select the 3 best adverts (at least) and award the winners with free advertising worth ₦30,000 each.

Deadline: Friday, September 21, 2012 at 4:00pm. Please drop a reply if you intend to participate.

hoodboi: There is something called franchising. When the foundation is bad, the building itself cannot stand. What the guy has done is build a weak foundation. When the word gets out that this is not a real craiglist franchise, it would kill whatever trust people are meant to have for the site. Nobody would want to patronize a site that lied right from the onset. That is why it is a wayo site.

As far as ideas go. I have one myself that i have already began. I am currently building a network of freelance programmers/web developers. I have a graphic designer, and 2 programmers already, as well as a web developer. It is not that i have not seen interested candidates, but these are the people that have truly shown ability. The major problem here is that, due to how things are in this country, trust is very hard to earn. The major problem is that, most people don't believe you will pay them their money when the job is done. I don't blame them, why should they. Suggestions please.

Secondly, i want to start a blog very soon that focuses on Nigerian websites. Looking at the idea behind them, the design and every other thing about it. I am taking my time though, i don't want to rush into things about this one.

Any web based business has to be fully executed cuz corporate honed commandoes are invading
the turf that teens and youths with a pc/lappy tinkering html and css and so on once hoped
to colonise.
Craiglist in africa!! well lets see how it plays out.
for the jobberman thing, i had expressed my sentiments earlier. there's no direct
value correspondence for candidates paying for jobs except for those who are already
favored (no thanks to the various age , so on biases in the industry).
. secondly, there's no actual real value creation or increase from the entry of a match making firm,
the availabe jobs in the country wont triple or double because
a matchmaker website debuted. besides the only way they could prbly aim to try to stay
afloat is not going to go down well with job seekers,
that is by trying to make themselves the main job seeking door way!!
a firm tried it once and got lambasted ,when they tried to make themselves the default
, interview test administrators on behalf of corporations,
people really reacted.
the firm is now history. it died in a hurry.

mamigocentral: @Uwadiegwu, u are right but as I said they are building that online culture and their buisness model is still one of the best for translating profit for a web based startup in Nigeria.

2buff: "funding" isn't always a good word
It means you now have investors
Who want their money back and want to see constant profits
and Who interfere with your decisions

In my opinion, if all you are doing is hosting a website service, you don't really need funding.

Unless it's a government type funding and they intend to fully butt out afterwards.
