samistry: Lol... I don't think there's any style of wrestling that CoolUsername hasn't seen, even the ones you try to claim is serious and no gimmicks. Good for him. He will understand more. |

CoolUsername: This will suck it won't. Experiment it, watch a wrestling match where you feel is less choreographed with 2 veterans or good wrestlers working it - forget about stories and gimmicks at that period - you'll realize what actually matters in wrestling. The reason we look for every other thing is because we don't enjoy the matches anymore. I watched Swerve Vs Ospreay on Dynamite, it ended in a draw, so I felt only the ending was scripted or planned. The rest felt it was on the fly. I enjoyed that match. Immediately the Young Bucks came in to continue their storyline, the whole "professional atmosphere" collapsed. |

CoolUsername: Who are the grown adults that are still mocking wrestling in 2026? Everybody already knows that everyone else knows it is scripted. If you are ashamed of wrestling, go and watch UFC. If not, stop hanging with people that are still stuck in 2003. Wrestling does not have to change for this imaginary fanbases that would come if becomes more "realistic". they're not imaginary. You're Nigerian now, you know how far. I don't get bothered by it but it's the reality. And outside here; if not for the relationship with WWE and UFC do you think Dana and Rogan would have stopped mocking it? |

samistry: I get where you're coming from but this proposal still leaves us with serious people engaging in simulated combat with a fixed winner. Anything worked/pretend fight isn't going to get the acceptance of real combat. Casuals will be like "why is this combatant not having cuts and bruises if the moves are real?"
It's not a sport until the moves are real and the winner isn't one determined by backstage forces. It can't work, not In this age of social media leaks and backstage scoops. no, it'll not be advertised as a sport, it'll be advertised exactly as what it (and Vince already solved that problem), Sport-entertainment. Simple. I used the word 'sport" vaguely to describe it but the actual term is sport-entertainment. It will have the necessary elements of sports as well as the necessary elements of entertainment (acting) to finally bring meaning and stability to this "circus show". We've refused to choose stability hence we're confused. This is just a rant on Nairaland, hopefully with more influence I could cause a discourse across board. |

samistry: So a bunch of people determine who should win matches. How is it different from what we have? It's still scripted (fake) at the end of the day. Let them go out for real like MMA or amateur Olympic wresting. yes it's fake. It should be. But it's more real than what we have now and it's the right balance for a sport-entertainment show. Because the issue now is that the gimmicks (thank God they're going out of use), storylines and choreography makes for there to be more entertainment than sport. Even worse, it changes; some matches don't have stories, some do; some wrestlers don't have gimmicks, some do; some matches are barely choreographed, some heavily; and the fans are made bear the weight alongside the confusion it brings varying from time to time, from company to company, from wrestler to wrestler. The resultant effect is a constant back and forth on a daily basis between promoter to promoter, promoter to fan and fan to fan. Let's not even talk about how the external onlookers mock the business and it's fans. We're defending the product everyday and every other day from the same arguments that never seem to stop. But there's money, unfortunately we can't say the same about the legitimacy of the business. There isn't one sport and different styles, there's one sport and only one style and that's what I have presented. |

samistry: No half baked measures. You can't present Moxley as a tough hardened martial artist, only for him to get choked out in jiu jutsu tournaments by randos. Go full brawl for all, no predetermined winners. Go full inokism(nevemind it almost killed NJPW) Let the best wrestler or fighter win the belt. it can work. Wrestling is a work, meaning you don't go out there and beat people for real. But halfway you're supposed to feel the effect. The judges are not judges that appear on TV To rate a match, they rate the matches after the matches are over by watching the tapes. They perform the job of the booker essentially to decide who goes over or not. The better performer (in athletism and in acting) gets rated higher; that way it feels like a sport while still being entertainment. This is how wrestling should be. |

Istg, AEW sickos act like jealous exes whenever a wrestler leaves to go to WWE yeah, because that makes a whole lot of sense. I hate using my real name which I had freedom to choose, but I prefer that which I was forced to choose. |

samistry: When AEW signed her on a two year contract in 2023, I don't think they envisaged how big the feud with Toni would be. That was the biggest thing in their women's division at that time. After she won the title, her reign seemed to dragged and was uneventful until Toni Storm came back to reignite the feud.
Mariah said at the point of her being champion, she was depressed and wanted to leave the company 🤷. Tony Khan tried to get her to sign an extension before the contract ran out in 2025 but she declined before dropping the title back to Toni Storm.
I'm sure WWE was already poaching her at this point, licking their lips at getting another one , Tony Khan had built up.
What elevation how you looking for again? Didn't she give you the Hollywood ending match before leaving? The sickos were buzzing about that one. when a company makes you big and popular and gives you an opportunity they'd give no one else (especially when you didn't deserve it) the least you can do is to put some other people over and create other feuds that will elevate every other person before leaving. Pay some dues. She wasn't a company woman if you ask me. She even said she hated the name Mariah and loves the one she was forced to have, lol. What caused her depression, too much spotlight? |

I wasn't watching wrestling in 2023. When I began watching again, Mariah May had already come and gone (I watched her last match). I had to go back to see what I missed. She was there for a cup of coffee and was rewarded with a world title. Now I feel she didn't earn it, but what's even more disturbing is how quickly she left for her 'dream job'. Samistry, what was that? Isn't it awkward how quickly she left without even trying to elevate the company that gave her a one in a million chance? Am I missing something? |
