es. A pharmacist must have sufficient knowledge on safe drug use, side effects, adverse effects, contraindications, etc and must also be able to supply relevant information concerning drugs to patients and health proffesionals. Pharmaceutical care in pharmacy practice cannot be overlooked, it is a patient-oriented pharmacy practice that involves the pharmacist working in concert with the patient/client to provide safe, quality and economic treatment regimen for the patient in which the patient is involved in all the treatment processes and mutually designs a treatment plan with the pharmacist. The pharmacist must do everything within their capacity to provide all drugs, medical supplies and relevant information to the patient and also be able to change, modify, review the treatment plan if necessary in concert with the patient and other health proffesionals. Communication skills are a must for any 21st century pharmacist as they to bring the best out of the patient- pharmacist relationship and are important for sucessful business deals. Good Pharmacy/Business management Practices must also be part of the packages of an ideal pharmacist. Pharmacists must also be able to diagnose ailments correctly with proper clerking and the use of basic medical laboratory equipments( also the ability to intepret test results) which will aid in profering correct treatment plans to patients. Information concerning correct dosing, time and frequency of drug administratio, etc n must be at the pharmacist's beck and call. Forgive my ignorance, but with the highlighted above from op's post, what's d difference between a pharmacist and a doctor? |
kandiikane: Then you are an ediot and you should stop spewing nonsense if you don't know your history and unwilling to learn about your history. This is not an insult. Have a good day! What's your point? That you're good at using foul language and taking a powder afterwards? Your parents must be so proud. |
kandiikane: Do you research first on African se.xual culture instead of spewing dust.I don't need to do that However, I expect you to come up with some baseless research on how our sexual culture eons ago embraced homosexuality and we suddenly, a few decades ago, decided that it was wrong. |
I opened this thread expecting to see flat-chested, sports bra-wearing, natty-haired, gender-confused girls. I wasn't disappointed. |
MiguelMi6: Excuse me,but what is Un-african about a sensible government allowing consesnting non-threatning persons express their sexuality as they will.Come to think of it,the laws have been suspended,it still gives you headache,no arrest for gay persons.Do you for a second assume that 14years imprisonment will change a person's gayness.Say what you will, African nations consider homosexuality abhorrent and unnatural. Just as Western nations cannot condone infringing on "international human rights", we also don't condone gay relationships; it is un-African! One might as well de-criminalize inces.t, substance abuse since it occurs between consenting, non-threatening adults. |
This whole strike thing is being stretched too far.. There's only how much private hosptals can handle patients; we need our government hospital facilities. But, why should JOHESU care if doctors are on strike or not? Let each fight for their own demands |
tayokem: To me its better to be lirterate and not exposed than be illerate and exposed. Illeteracy its a bad thing in all it entirety. THE QUESTION I'LL LIKE TO ASK IS THAT WISH ONE IS BETTER TO BE EDUCATED BUT LACK CONFIDENCE OR TO BE ILLETERATE WITH CONFIDENCEYou're doing literacy a disservice with your grammar. |
fijiano202: ur a dumbo, honestly the likes of mohammed abacha, dantatas, niyi adebayo names will forever be remebered..with ur value, substance and worth u may never be noticed or remebered for ever..most of u will live out ur lives as average citizens and may not ever make upto 100 million till u die...if my dad is as rich as atiku or babagida my dream would be to expand and create my own company with a guarranteed capital...major prob most of our youths have is we dont accept reality...almost every youth in nigeria has a dream, vision and business idea but lack of capital is their prob, out of possible 100 youth only 20 may end up acheiving their dreams,am sure none of u insulting me have 20million in ur acct at the moment...if u have a dad that can guarranty that capital why not rely on himWell in your 1st post, you asked why "you would stress yourself for a useless job if", you didn't say you were going to expand or create your own company. Anyway, there are more self-made rich people than 'old money' people. Tell me what the children of Folawiyo, Atiku, Babangida, etc are known for apart from their parents' wealth. |
fijiano202: Guy if my papa na babagida or atiku pls why would i stress myself for a useless job where my boss is freaking insultiveIt would show that you have no substance, no value, no worth. You won't be remembered for doing anything or making your OWN mark; just that person whose seeming achievement was his inheritance. |
kingphemy: No 14 make me imagine how the offsprings of crossbreeding between Africans and Chinese will look like. They'd look like Tiger Woods. |
prettyprettywow: Go and rest jare. all the medical and health sciences students pay the same school fees in Govt owned universities. Haba!! don't start spreading lies. let there be relativity in university tuition!!!!That's not true. I was in UCH and had friends in the School of Nursing, School of Medical Laboratory Science, School of Health Information Management. School fees are definitely not the same. |
okparaugo: It is a very big shame when all a person can achieve is running after increased pay when he/she could better his own pay via private practice. It is sad, really. Doctors should be seen, not heard, like clergy, in the background providing efficient healthcare services to people. However, we live in a predominantly capitalist society, and things have changed a lot since Hippocrates penned the Oath. The sad truth is: Modern, specialty medicine is big business ALL OVER THE WORLD. A blepharoplasty and a nose job can go for as much as 12, 000 USD in the US. There is absolutely no law that says doctors, just like everyone else, can't operate their private establishment. They're afterall providing services. Infact, popular plastic surgeons on reality TV like 90210 operate out of their private clinics, not government hospitals. |
prettyprettywow: You forgot that these are salaries of specialist Doctors(consultants) with over 12yrs of education and average of $300k in student loan (for US Drs) as compared to the salaries of an entry level nurse ( 4yrs degree and less than $50k student loanfor US graduates)). You fail to realize that in US, resident Drs earn an average of $45k, quite below the salary of the least hospital worker. So when they say Drs aern 200k, know that they are talking about consultants, and if you wanna compare with nurses, talk about nurse practitioners where some specialist nurse practitioners earn more than some specialist Drs e.g Anaesthetic nurses (CRNA) earn more than family physicians. Our Drs want to reap where they did not sow.I have seen this table before, and it actually refers to the salary of GPS, hence the term country doctors or rural doctors. A orthopedic surgeon for example earns an average of 413, 000 USD per annum. We all know resident doctors even in Nigeria earn well below some ADNs and DDNs; Nigerian doctors are not being overpaid. On a salary of 45, 000 USD, that's a take home pay of roughly #500, 000naira. How much is the take home pay of a senior registrar in Nigeria? |

Cityguy: You blame them? Some are under what you can call 'bandwagon' or 'mob' effect. Years back, theatre staff had told my CMD while he was operating a patient that I stood for pints of blood for the said patient and he smiled after which he said 'my boy, you will understand with time'. That I still remember till date. The patient refused paying and part of my first salary as an intern was deducted at source. I can't count the number of times patients absconded after begging and promising to pay if only you could help them out. For those in the know, that word 'selfish' had lost it's bite and potency. In my PGDMgt class, I was taught that even one great economist said society develops when people pay for what they consume. My barber has it written somewhere in his shop 'No credit today, come tomorrow'. This our mentality has to change.I was actually punished by my consultant during internship days for not paying #2000 for a baby's medications from my own pocket (the poor parents had absconded) in the Special Care Baby Unit of UCH. |
APContherun: You have indirectly alluded to the fact that the title "Dr" isn't exclusive to practitioners of medicine so I rest my case.Of course, it is not! However, who does the average person regard as a doctor? Will all these other professionals identity as doctors in accidents or emergencies? What do they tell people when they come to them as 'doctors' ? Veterinarians identity themselves properly as as vet. doctors. Others that bear the appellation use it in formal settings |
herald9: THE MOST ANNOYING PART IS THE FACT THAT THESE THINGS DOESN'T HAPPEN IN ANIMALS...WRONG! ! Animals have congenital anomalies too. |
splasher: DOCTORS AGAIN-You can be a called a doctor in two ways 1. By Nomenclature. Anybody who cares for a patient and is suitably qualified to care for that patient. eg medical doctors, nurses, pharmacist, medical scientist, optometrists, dentist etc provided you care for a patient. This is the dictionary definition. 2. By qualification. When your certificate carries an appellation of DOCTOR by a recognized institution. By this our medical boctors have no right to call themselves doctors since their certificate carries the appellation Bachelor of Medicine / Bachelor of Surgery. The word DOCTOR comes from the root word teacher, this means you must have been proven to have a doctrine(by the way of a thesis). Our present medical doctors do not carry out a research thesis before graduation so CANNOT BE CALLED DOCTORS by qualification, unlike in the US where they award MD. Why all this story? There is nothing special about medical doctors that make them think that other professions must be downgraded because the government positioned them as the leader of the health care team. Methink because if this appellation called DOCTOR that makes them think they are special. Since they are doctors by nomenclature, pharmacists, medlab, nurses etc can be called doctors and deserve the same recognition as our dear medical doctors. Only Optometrists and pharmacists(UNIBEN) are doctors by qualification and nomenclature.Source? |
warrior01: Hate doctors? The fact is those people in Nigeria that parade themselves as Doctors, don't know what it really means to be a mreal doctor. No ethics, no compassion and no proffessionalism. All we have is a bunch of greedy people that is full of unnecessary pride. If you doubt me, why do our people rush to India for proper treatment? You can do all of us a favor by telling us what it means to be a real doctor, seeing you are one. The reason why people rush to India for treatment is simple:there are no adequate facilities and equipment (which are very expensive) to maintain. A few state governments are trying to reverse this trend and Nigerians don't have to go abroad for valvular heart surgery or renal transplantation because of these centres. My point? Direct your question to the government. If you come across a private hospital that offers these expensive services (like in Lagos),be ready to pay through your nose for it. Have you ever wondered why your much touted Indian doctors rarely have issues like NMA and JOHESU? Because their government ensures all parties are satisfied. Nigerian doctors come from all parts of the country, different backgrounds, ethnicities, religions, etc. They have only one thing in common; blistering hatred for them by Nigerians who have never even met them before! This is a pre-concieved notion that most people have about doctors. Our politicians who scream along the road in convoys and have gun-toting guards with them are not arrogant,. Nurses who shout at relatives and gossip at their stations are not arrogant. Soldiers who harass civilians and burn BRT buses are not arrogant. No, it is only Nigerian doctors. |
Janiobi: When you guys starts saving lifes first than bodring about the registration and hospital fees b4 operating on patients then we would care for you guys...Imagine an injured person runing to a nearby hospital to receive care and Died right there cause he had not the money to pay for his treatment,So he was not responded too. W.T.F is going on with doc?Basic healthcare, like deliveries, should be free, I agree and some state governments are already taking steps towards thid. However, standard healthcare is expensive (drugs, fluids, bed space, needles, syringes, plaster, gauze, cotton wool, sutures, antiseptics, and so on ). The average Nigerian patient DOESN'T pay AFTER services are rendered and these disposables are used on him to get better. Mind you, these things are not free but bought with money. They start pleading or refusing outright to pay. Who runs at a loss? At public hospitals where healthcare is free, patients get prompt attention. |
Smartsyn: I hate it when a simple question thread, turns out to be an epistle. How can you generalize so much? How many doctors have you come across? Are they all greedy? Greed, or any other vice is a personal attribute, and not something that can be applied to everyone. |
Abraham2013: “In the medical profession, Nurse, Pharmacists, Physiotherapists are not trained to make diagnosis and prescribeNow you single out physiotherapists. Are nurses, pharmacists, medical laboratory scientists "trained to diagnose and prescribe treatment"? Who is misinforming Nigerians? |
Abraham2013: If I did 5yrs in d university and obtain a bachelor's degree in physiotherapy, den proceed to US and do extra 2yrs to be given DPT(doctor of physiotherapy), den proceed to do residency in cardiopulmonary physiotherapy for 5yrs, wat should I be addressed as in ur own view?A consultant physiotherapist. Are physiotherapists also fighting for this? The last time I had a relative in UCH, I knew of the existence of consultant physiotherapists (I stand to be corrected). |
No wonder there is something called 'AIDs' and so many other deadly diseases
