It may have also very well saved the life of Dr.Keny Bradley from Ebola disease, though we can't say for sure now. So apologize to that guy you quoted. .lol |

There's such a thing called the SCIENTIFIC METHOD. It entails many principles, chief of which is to vigorously test and vet any claims, theories, hypotheses, cure. It is not a method of CHANCE, GUESSWORK, or LUCK. Zmapp was developed specifically for Ebola, nanosilver is not.Ot is generic and has been around since antiquity. The same doctor that proposed it use also claimed it would kill HIV, hepatitis, etc.Why wait until Ebola outbreak to say that? Nanosilver has known antibacterial properties. As for its virucidal effects, all one is asking for is PROOF that it has worked before-in animals or humans. New 'untested drugs are not just unleashed on to people for a simple reason-the side effects are not well known. What is to say silver, a metal, cannot damage the kidney? Or that it does not damage it? These are fine points CHUKWU should have addressed secretly in human trials before coming out publicly about using the drug. If it indeed worked, with no serious side effects, then we would be justified in attacking the US. |

ottizz: The thing most of you doctors don't get is that it is not due to hatred that causes people to pit against you. Rather it is a reaction against your egotistical selves. It is human nature. Change your attitude. Understand the primary reason you are in this profession: the patient. Treat the patient with empathy and respect. Once you understand this and believe in it everything else will fall into place. Can you imagine gynecologist telling a pregnant woman in labor that she needs to hurry up and deliver or else he was going to leave, for he does not want to miss his appointment at another place (probably his clinic). Why would I support such individual in anything he is asking for? You're right. However, I think that bit about ego and pride is a generalization and not applicable to all doctors. True, some doctors, especially the freshly inducted ones, can be egotistical and pompous, but a lot of doctors I know (and I do know a lot) are just trying to earn a livelihood and advance in their careers like other Nigerians. Resentment and hatred is there irrespective of your attitude, and this is not peculiar to Nigeria. |

deeobserver209: I used to support these doctors but when I got to learn how political their strike dived into and their superiority complex, I withdrew my support for them. The main bone of contention is the demand for the establishment of the office of the 'Surgeon General of the Federation' which they argue should be established to take care of Health care matters in the country, just like the situation in the United States. But things got crappy when they insist that only Doctors be appointed as a Surgeon General. Arguing that doctors are more qualified for the position considering the amount of time they spend on their course of study. This didn't go down well with the nurses who feel that such plan would only subjugate nurses to the background. The nurses were of the oppion that the office of the Surgeon General should be left wide open for whoever will be qualified to occupy that position, be it Nurse or a Doctor. They cite an example with the United States were the current Surgeon General is a Nurse. FYI, the post of Surgeon-General has already been ceded to doctors, and that is not the only reason they went on strike. And as someone pointed out, the post is reserved for doctors in the US, as the example you cited recognized military rank in appointment as surgeon-general. |

FG has finally found a way to 'deal' with the doctors? Seems to affect only doctors in federal employ only though. This ain't Jonathan's work, but Chukwu's. Now only consultants are left to run the teaching hospitals.Imagine 800 consultants to a daily patient turnover of 4000 in a place like UCH. Expect more deaths and mortalities. Nigerian doctors will start scrambling for Togo, S.Africa, etc Students will shun medicine as a course of study. Agbo sellers will have a field day.. Nigeria's healthcare is already in the doldrums, but suspending residency programs just killed it. |

19naia: Everybody knows it has no cure and the disease cannot be treated.. They will just be isolated until they die and being in Nigeria, its normal to fear for your life when people come looking for you because they fear you spread death on contact.. Also Nigerians don't like to face bad news, they say a prayer and tell themselves only what they want to believe even when the bitter truth is sitting on their face.. So they may also be running from the diagnosis for fear it will be bad news.. In Guinea, there are villages running from health care workers and forbidding the health workers from entering their village because they believe the health workers brought the disease from the very beginning.. If they run for over a week with no symptoms, then they are justified because nigerian quarantine authorities would do something stupid like quarantine all ebola suspects in the same facility to share same toilet and bath and everything.. That will keep the outside society safer, but it will allow the one suspect who was the only one with Ebola, to infect the rest of the non infected suspects in quarantine.. after this, the officials in charge of quarantine can just tell the world that the ebola suspects were all infected and congratulate themselves for saving the public.. Never underestimate the incompetence or simple unwillingness of Nigerian authorities to not blunder even the best of intentions and as a result, cost innocent people their lives.. If they have the well being and strength to run, then thats a good sign of good health, they best protect themselves from the mental illness of the delusional do-gooder authorities trying to save them or society as a whole... Oh, so you have worked with the government in a setting like this before? Ebola is of PUBLIC HEALTH concern; it is imperative that the spread is limited by isolation of exposed people. That poo you typed about government infecting non-exposed individuals quarantined in the same place is at best.., poo. It is better for them to be isolated for the incubation period, tested for the virus and get early treatment (which may be life-saving) or released if they're found to be free of the disease. This is preferable to taking the risk of them having the virus and mingling with unsuspecting people. |

achyc2002: Saw this and just thought I should share
(CNN) - Donald Trump is tweeting that "We should not be importing (Ebola) to our homeland."
An Indiana congressman is worried that refugee children from Central America could pose a public health risk with "Ebola circulating."
And the Twitter-sphere is filled with people asking "how can we bring these patients to America," complaining that "We don't have enough problems in America! Let's import Ebola patients!" and speculating that treating them here is "highly irresponsible." It's a terrifying disease for sure. It typically kills 90% of the people who get it, and this most recent outbreak is the largest in history. But you don't need to panic, experts say, and you definitely don't have to worry about the two American Ebola patients who are being treated in Atlanta.
Here are five reasons why:
1. It's fragile.
Ebola is an incredibly fragile virus. It does not fly through the air with the greatest of ease. It cannot be transmitted through a cough or sneeze. It doesn't move easily from human to human like the common cold.
Ebola is aggressively infectious, so people who are infected are highly likely to get sick. But it's not highly contagious.
"The Ebola virus spreads through direct contact with the blood, secretions or other body fluids of ill people and indirect contact -- for example, with needles and other things that may be contaminated with these fluids," said Stephan Monroe, deputy director of the Centers for Disease Control's National Center for Emerging Zoonotic and Infectious Diseases.
2. We know how it works.
Although there is no vaccine and no cure, the one real advantage we have with Ebola is that doctors know how to control it.
Ebola isn't "some mystical pathogen (with) some bizarre mode of transmission," said Bruce Ribner, who oversees the special isolation unit that is treating the patients at Emory University Hospital.
Common-sense hygiene can stop its spread.
"Ebola is a virus that can be stopped and not spread in hospitals. The stakes are higher, but it's easily inactivated with typical hospital disinfectants," said Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Director Tom Frieden.
3. We have the resources to contain it.
The two American patients with Ebola were flown to the United States in a plane outfitted with an isolation pod.
They are being kept in isolation at the Emory hospital with a specialized containment ward, one of four in the country. In the containment ward, the vents are specialized. There's an intercom and plate glass that separates patients from visitors so they don't come into direct contact. There's a strict protocol on everyone and everything that goes into and out of the patient's room. Health care workers wear protective suits.
But any major medical center could really take care of an Ebola patient, said William Schaffner, an expert on infectious diseases at Vanderbilt University's School of Medicine.
Most ICUs have isolation rooms that are used for patients suspected to have tuberculosis, SARS, Middle East respiratory syndrome or another infectious disease. Schaffner said that not much would be different for an Ebola patient, though more stringent precautions might be taken to ensure that health care workers are following all protocols.
4. Our medical staff is ready.
"We have been training for this," Ribner said of preparations for the two American Ebola patients. These doctors know how to handle Ebola and will use an abundance of caution when working with an infected person.
Medical workers across the country have also been told to watch out for Ebola symptoms and question patients who have recently traveled to West Africa. They are trained to recognize Ebola cases and can quarantine them early, keeping others from coming into contact with an infected person's bodily fluids while the disease runs its course.
5. Airports are on alert.
At African airports in the Ebola-affected region, passengers are being closely screened. Health experts are watching for people with high fevers. Those who have a temperature are removed and monitored while doctors test their blood for Ebola.
When passengers arrive at the airport, they are required to wash their hands in a chlorinated solution. Customs agents and passport inspectors are also wearing surgical gloves when interacting with passengers.
Source: http://edition.cnn.com/2014/08/05/health/ebola-dont-panic/index.html?c=&page=4 Nice one, but: Ebola is aggressively infectious, so people who are infected are highly likely to get sick. But it's not highly contagious. The above statement is wrong.Infectivity refers to the ability of a pathogen to invade and colonize tissues, resulting in disease. Contagion is the ease and ability of transfer of the pathogen to other people, whether it causes disease or not. PATHOGENICITY, which is the right term to use, is the probability of a pathogen that has INFECTED someone to cause disease.e.g HIV is highly infective, moderately contagious and highly pathogenic. malaria parasite is highly infective, not contagious, and moderately pathogenic |

Chrisbenogor: One thing that befuddles me generally is the level of reverence and infallibility that this book garners. I often wonder why Christians could not question first of all the authenticity of a text, why they would not be bothered to know the circumstances and the reasons around which the text was written.
I think your dilemma starts from the fact that seeing as it is supposed to be some manual when you see the heinous and hideous things in some parts you begin to wonder if it is of God. Like where does the conviction come from that the book is the total undiluted thoughts of God. Now some parts of it pose stories that can be traced historically, how much of it matches with the actual facts? You hear people say things like oh Moses wrote this and that.....Shocking.
WHY HAVE HOLY OR INSPIRED TEXTS STOPPED BEING WRITTEN? IF THEY ARE STILL BEING WRITTEN DO YOU THINK THERE IS ANY WORTH TO BE PUT IN THE BIBLE TODAY?
Disagree with me all you want but if there was to be a new version of bible, call it the jet age testament. Where you have the letter of Adeboye to the Lagosians, or the Letters of Daddy Oleyedepo on tithe payment, Combined with the book of TB joshua, 1st 2nd and 3rd Chris Oyaks I am sure that version even if it manages by phee dee phee stroke of luck to pass in Nigeria.........the slavereligious masters that be will not even allow it.
So what made Joshua, daniel, Isiah and co better than the legend himself PASTOR GBEJERO or SAINT DIKEJI MIMIYERIJESU - BISHOP OF THE WHOLE WIDE WORLD! WORD! In addition, people quote and interprete the Bible to their own convenience and even offer explanations for knotty issues as if they were authorities on them! It is not uncommon to hear a Christian take a passage of the Bible in isolation and attempt to use it to explain some question, forgetting the context in which thst passage was written. |
