So bad for kenya educational system . Thank devil , none of my DNA make up school there .

If no be boarding system , how I go learn how to cut common grass, take sabi use boxing defend my self . Sabi public speaking
rvp2018:
Kenya Government to abolish boarding schools - PS Belio
Grades 1 to 9 pupils to learn in day primary schools.
In Summary
The government will from January do away with boarding primary schools for pupils learning in grades 1 to 9.
The net effect of the radical policy means that pupils transiting to Junior Secondary Schools will join day schools in their home areas.

Kipsang' said that Kenya has the highest percentage of its children globally in boarding schools, standing at 28 per cent.

He said this is against the global rate in most countries which stand at 15 per cent.

And unlike mad Ghanians here - I see majority of kenyans are in total support

-->Abolish all boarding facilities at all levels. Even secondary schools and universities. They should not have hostels provided by the institution. A school should focus on academics. Not boarding and lodging. That should be the familys responsibility. Parents must deal with their kids daily. You brought it into the world so enjoy your time with it.

-->THIS is fantastic news. Parents cannot continue outsourcing their parenting duties to teachers in boarding schools. Govt should also look for a legal way to force deadbeat and absentee fathers to help in co-parenting. There are just too many single mothers in this country.

-->This is well overdue, most parents have no idea who their children are because they send them away to these boarding schools at very early ages. Raised by teachers and their peers and in the end we lack basic family connections and values

-->Perfect. Kids 12 and below should be with their parents, not peers.

--> I think the founders of CBC had good intentions with our parenthood!! It's so family focused. Yes we need a surgical operation to fix our country it's morals and values! Good work belio

--> It's the high time we took responsibility for our children's growth and development as parents.

--> Right move.

--> Some wonderful news. I've been advocating for this for years. I cannot understand how any responsible parent would like to be detached from their own kid at the most crucial part of their growing up.

Ghana. Banking crisis starts. Sobbing Women here claims to have gone to withdraw 2,500 cedis...her bank only allowed her 250 cedis.
https://twitter.com/GhanaSocialU/status/1599709957003235329

And it get interesting - the pensions, AG of Ghana and pretty much reject the unilateral decision to force them to take losses
You are such an ass punk, how much is 2500 cedis, that the bank will not be able to pay, when people are doing transaction of more than a thousand dollar thru their mobile wallet . You just like to learn by fooling. Ghana bank is not facing withdrawal issues except on dollar account which is also applicable to any africa country . I dare you to tell anybody you know who has a dollar account to go withdraw 10 thousand from his account tmrw in Nairobi, if the bank will not request the fellow to fill hundered of documents. that is even if they will released it. Africa is currently in mess , but if we are to measure the biggest mess, I bet kenya owns makes a whole sewage .

Because Kenyan leaders are not too arrogant and too-knowing like what we have in Ghana.
All the problems we are facing are self inflicted.

The Opposition and the technocrats forsaw this situation, they made all the noise they could but the clueless President and his stealing machinery(appointees) rejected any opinion.
Its a lesson for the supporters of the ruling party because In all of this they are suffering more than any Ghanaian

From what I gather you think this is welfare program.
No this is A LOAN with SAVING and PENSION rolled into one.
There is NO MONEY we are giving them. We lending money. Very small amount. They repay in 14 days. Ideally they should repay daily and borrow the following morning.
You wake up with nothing - because you're poor - borrow 5 dollars - make 1 dollar profit - return the money.
They borrow and pay back - and instead of interest - we keep that as their savings and pension.
Gov using taxes from middle class to give them 2:1 matching...they save 5% - gov rewards them with 2.5% for saving.
Middle class get 1:1 matching from their employer; so they should not complain.

The more we talk the more I hope you didnt go to any school - least of all Ghana.

Otherwise why are you Ghanians so OBTUSE.

Poor people need money more than anything else.
They have great ideas.
They are frugal and responsible.
Give a poor man a dollar - he will feed his family and have something for tomorrow.

We have studied our poor business men.
1) Biggest problem of course they have no money - solution lend them money (dont give them free - there is no free money)
2) Dont lend them at usurious interest rates - you're digging their hole further - give them zero interest loan - IMF/WB give poor gov such loans.
3) Encourage them to save for the rainy day so eventually they get out of the vicious poverty trap.
Your idea of giving money is as big as the poverty in your land .

Once you give poor people money , you just reward them for being poor and how can a sensible economy reward citizens for being poor? , why don't you correct their behavior pattern , what leads to that poverty. using other people productivity to compensate poor people should never be an available career choice . It is unproductive. Every dollar or shilling the government has comes from the tax payer .your government is just as foolish as you . It doesn't know what next . Your country is about creating a large number of lazy men and more poor individual .

Kenya public education failed you .
rvp2018:
You got jokes.
Financial intermediaries
Your west Africa is completely sick ZOO!
The formal sector alone - you guys are getting loans at 25-30%!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You banks dont even quote annual interest - they quote monthly interest of 3% - which is 36% per annum. CRAZY

Now before we proceed what do you know by financial intermediaries?
Quick check on Susu - and it appears very tiny - 850 such in Ghana - this appears to be merry-go rounder - very tiny

Let not even compare to kenya.
Kenya has 7th world largest cooperatives movement...Africa largest...south africa is 2nd....15 million kenyans belong to a cooperative.
Almost every kenyan in informal sector belong to some merry-go-round or table banking.

Our mobile money is of course a global trail blazer - with I think 400 mobile money credit facilities.

This hustler fund is innovative because one biggest problem facing developing countries is how to grow savings and pensions when most people are living hand to mouth- and it solving it while dishing out very low almost zero interest loans and forcing them to save .

Dont wonder why Nigeria and Ghana despite all the minerals and arable land look shietty compared to baren kenya.

These small things like having 7th largest cooperative movement in the world has made huge difference in kenya - which would be one Africa poorest - because it has no major minerals or arable land or natural resources.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DQezoDoYcPA&t=5s

But instead it largest non-mineral economy in Africa.

rvp2018:
Ruto hustler Fund driving savings and pensions up as side-effect of zero interest micro-loans for the informal sector. Kenya has 3 million formally employed (South Africa has 10 million) but bulk of Kenya's 30million adult over age of 15yrs are informally employed (8 million are small holder farmers, 4 million in schools/colleges, 15 million in non-farming informal trading/transports/name it. South Africa has close to 40m working age population...with only 10 million formally employed...and whooping 33 percent unemployed (majority blacks).

The story is the same for all Africa countries - tiny formal sector - gigantic informal sector plagued by zero savings/pensions/lack of affordable credit.

Kenya's Hustler Revolution gov has made that informal sector it's basis for it's economic revolution - otherwise also called Bottom Up Economic model - and it's getting started.

Improving the people at bottom fortunes even by a dollar every day - can scale up into massive economic push.

What Hustler Fund does is to allow them to borrow micro-loans almost every day perpetually - 5 dollars every day - repay- they are "forced" to save 5% - and gov matches that 2:1 - end of the year - everyone will have substantial savings - end of 5yrs - everyone will have substantial pension scheme.

Savings are what will drive the economy forward....as debt is using someone borrowing which you pay interest. With their pension scheme - they can afford to put down payment for a house or start big business - graduate from informal sector to formal MSME.

Kenyans who have taken out loans since the Hustler Fund scheme's inception had saved Ksh.147.21 million as of Sunday noon.
This is according to figures provided by Co-operative and Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises Cabinet Secretary Simon Chelugui on Sunday, who also stated that the savings were obtained through a Ksh.2.9 billion in loans

Kenyans have so far repaid a total of Ksh.129.1 million, according to CS Chelugui.

He said that a total of 8.4 million Kenyans have registered, with a total of 5 million transactions already made.

Savings from the Hustler Fund scheme are deposited into a savings account after 5% of the borrowed money is deducted.
no sane country throw money to the poor , you don't build a wealthy nation that way . You will only create a poor society. .

You people need to come understudy west africa model .... We have lots of financial intermediaries here.

Susu in Ghana , Ajo in Nigeria etc. ( informal loan club)

Ruto launched the revolutionary Hustler Fund - and 48 hours later. 6.5Million kenyans have registered. Look likely it could get to all the 30m adult kenyans by the weekend end.

The Hustler Fund - features low interest (almost zero if you borrow and repay within 14days) - 8 percent annually -0.002% daily- but most importantly every 5% is banked into saving & pension plan.

Similar product Fuliza in 3yrs is now loaning out 5B dollars..with only 7 million customers. This one could get into trillions Ksh easily but most important apart from providing low interest micro-loans it will build pension plans for almost every kenyan - informal or not.

Kenya gross saving is about 13% to GDP - very low compared to global average of 25% - and this will likely add almost 5% - reducing the needs to borrow from Chinese and others.

Update - 3:00 PM

Amount disbursed= 2,064,100,521 (up from 1.6b at 11am today)

Total Repayment: 75,809,412 ( Up from 49.7m)

Opted in customers= 6,449,726

Total transactions= 3,542,221

Transactions Per Second (TPS) = 283

Hustler Fund is about bringing dignity and wealth to bottom of the society - the large informal sector - giving every low interest loan - mandatory savings - and pension fund.

To qutoe someone.
Hustler Fund is GoK starting a HR department for informal sector --> mandatory pension + matching benefits + biweekly wage + real time KPI (credit score)

Great Idea.

It should work and perhaps be a model to bootstrap other African markets.
very archaic way of reducing poverty among numerous turkana. Many people will not make a positive used of it. It will largely be spend on food and water they are lacking . Build a rich food and water secured environment first .

You are only creating dependency by rewarding indolence. Rather fight government overspending , create decent national borrowing , focus on proper economic growth . All this positive response yield into poverty reduction. It has been proving that a real GDP growth not the (fake statistics) reduce poverty by 1 percent , using Paul money to pay peter doesn't . Too many money thrown at the poor can't eliminate poverty . A good country should rather eliminate redundancy in tech, agriculture, education etc. There should be free education to the basic ,most importantly, acualization of skills. Endowment like land and natural resources should be well managed and not taking by foreigner etc.. foreigner shouldn't get the best part of you.

Country where skills are in abundance hardly lack (no poor skillful country) . Increased your welfare on that first ( then introduce a social security for the less privileged) i.e , those who are biologically incapable to work .
