BusinessRe: With This Massive Inflation, Are You Interested In Hedging Your Naira? by vevcommedia(op): 7:17am On Nov 28, 2020
ethicallyright:
Seriously, I've been thinking of this.

I planned to increase my GTB dollar account by changing more naira into dollars and stocking them there but after analyzing everything I realized that I may be at a loss.

Banks keep the official exchange rate at 370 naira /$ but in the real world(street) the exchange rate is around 480 naira/per dollars. Now there is a limit of the amount of dollars you can exchange with a bank and the worst policy is that sometimes the banks fix a limit to the amount of dollars you can withdraw and would rather you withdrew its naira equivalent.

Now the problem is that if I exchange my naira at 480 naira /$ and stock my dollar GTB dollar account and something comes up which would make me want to withdraw like $1000 at a time from the bank and the limit for withdrawing dollars is $100 per day. I would definitely lose if I have to choose to withdraw the naira equivalent which is obviously the only option and this would mean that I will be withdrawing 370 naira/$ way lower than the 480 naira/$ I saved.

I don't know if you understand what I mean. I feel the CBN should just let the forces of demand and supply determine the price of dollars. The best way to survive is simply to earn in dollars.
I understand you perfectly because I had the same problem. I got very frustrated and eventually moved all my dollars out of my dom account. I have moved into other currencies and usd denominated stock

I prefer option 2 which can be done by hoining international real estate crowdfunding hedge funds.
Another alternative is to invest in gold abroad
Keep your savings in U.S dollars
Are you able to do the gold investments, and join real estate crowdfunding hedge funds from Nigeria? Using naira?
If yes, can you share the companies you work with/use?

For the 2nd option, real estate investment in properties abroad, would you be interested in buying properties abroad? And which regions would you look at? Thanks, i am doing mini-customer research here

Open post. I want to find out if there is interest in hedging your Naira against current inflation.

PROBLEM:
We can see the government is not ready to do the right thing in terms of economy and people are losing savings and investments everyday. How would you offer interest rate of 1% while inflation rate is 14%. It means by doing nothing you are losing money everyday. Everything around you is costing more, but your salary, your savings are not increasing in value.

SOLUTION:
So 2 things I am thinking off:
1. Hold in another currency, fixing it in a foreign account or saving in bonds. Some of new fintech apps offer something similar wherein they allow you to buy USA stocks.
2. Purchase property abroad (100% ownership) and get rental returns.

Both have their advantages and disadvantages in terms of risk and liquidity, and with this service, people can pay in Naira

I want to get input if this is a service that would be useful. I appreciate all inputs and thoughts.

Seriously! Was that the only bus going towards that direction? And how dare u call 12 mins only undecided
He called more than 12mins, I don't know exactly, but he said immediately he noticed he would be late. When he got there, story was different, he was informed they didn't have record of any message or text from any applicant.

tenmariner:
That is what u find in the Nigeria working climate and for your cousin, wish him all d very best as the attitude expressed by the firm speaks volume of the working condition. 12 mins of lateness shouldn't be tantamount to disqualification most esp when d candidate had earlier informed them. Moreover, d best candidate can just be they guy held down in the traffic. Either factoring unseen circumstances or not, u cannot be precise about it most esp Lagos. What if it was an accident that require hospital treatment? How do u factor that.
I once attended an interview and noticed the garrulousness of one of the interviewer. He happens to be the M.D.
He asked me how much will I Bring to the firm. As far as I was concerned, that was a very dangerous questions that can be used against u later. I told him I need to at least know the modus operandi of my unit( if employed) then take a look at their product, their costing mechanism, the market forces of demand and supply, product performance index etc... In response, he thundered I must quote a figure. At that point, I told him the question should have been reserved for a different occasion and moreover, I am not so desperate for the position! The other interviewing panel esp a woman burst into laughter... I just packed my files and left. ...Mind you, this same interview was delayed by strong 2 hours. It was d Saturday of 2016 experience musical night at TBS lagos.. I had to quickly leave d program by 5 am..cos d interview was scheduled by 9am..None of the interview panelist arrived till past 11am...
Bottom line is, let ur cousin continue applying, pray and very soon, something better will come his way..
I am not blaming the employers, but, its just so harsh, we all know how Lagos is. Some days, ikorodu Road will just be blocked without any reason. One small accident, and traffic will spillover everywhere. All one's plans will be spoilt for no reason.
Jobs/VacanciesSome Employers Are Just Harsh by vevcommedia(op): 1:56am On Feb 20, 2018
My cousin was going to an interview on the island. Unfortunately his bus broke down on 3rd mainland bridge. It was a while before their bus was fixed and he got late to the interview. He sent a mail and text to the company (from the email that invited him) when he noticed the situation was going to make him late. He finally got there and these guys refused to see him, saying their policy doesn't allow for lateness. I understand it's not good to be late but since he explained ahead of time, shouldn't they have allowed him. It seem so harsh, the guy has been hustling, we know how things are difficult in Lagos. He was only about 12 min late.
Has anyone experienced something like this? Should he keep trying to contact, maybe fight for another interview date?

Hello, this is a great idea,i don't think anything similar exists. I won't mind being a part of it. Thanks
Ok cool! I'll work on it. My rationale was that there a lot of businessmen that want to do business in Nigeria and vice versa - at the same time, not everyone here can get into say chamber of commerce. We have many (and I have met some) people who are looking for export/import partners.

The same scenario applies to growing businesses in other countries
Business To BusinessGroup For International Trade by vevcommedia(op): 6:28pm On Oct 07, 2017
I find what limits access to market is the inability to connect with trusted businessmen. I am thinking of starting a group as I have a lot of international contacts. But before I do, I want advice - does something similar already exist?

Thanks
