A 44-year-old Nigerian national, Umunna Ndubuisi Williams has been arrested by Anti-Narcotic Cell (ANC) in Mumbai, India.

One hundred and ten grams of cocaine worth Rs 33 lakh (N18,167,990.30) was recovered from him.

According to ANC officials, a police constable with Azad Maidan unit received information of a foreign national coming to South Mumbai to make a drug deal.

ANC officials in swift response laid a trap and caught hold of the accused. The accused was arrested in the wee hours of Thursday, July 15, near pole number FR/ 136, near Loha bhavan bus stop, towards Wadibunder, PD Mello road, Mumbai.

The police said the arrested accused is a cloth trader and resident of sector 27, Kharghar, Navi Mumbai.

“We have seized 110 grams of cocaine worth Rs 33 lakh. He allegedly supplied the drugs to peddlers and customers in Mumbai”, said Datta Nalawade, Deputy Commissioner of Police, ANC.

Nalawade said that a case had been registered under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substance Act, 1985. “We are checking the supply chain of Williams”, said the police officer.

"An employer's desire to display, in relations with customers, a policy of political, philosophical or religious neutrality may be regarded as a legitimate aim," the Court of Justice of the European Union based in Luxembourg wrote in a statement.

The case was brought to the court by two German Muslim women who were told to remove their headscarves, or hijabs, by their managers at work. In both cases, they only started wearing headscarves at work after returning from their maternity leave, reported The Guardian.

According to the court, one of them — who worked as a special needs carer — was suspended twice and given a written warning. The center had also previously banned the wearing of all religious symbols, including the cross.

Another, who worked as an assistant and cashier at a chemist, was told by her employee that she was not allowed to wear anything that displayed obvious political, philosophical, or religious signs.

The two cases were first brought to local German courts before being passed on to the Court of Justice of the European Union.

This is not the first time the EU court has ruled in favor of employers regarding the removal of garments that displayed or signified religious or political symbols.

In 2017, the same court also ruled that asking employees to remove religious coverings was not discrimination as long as it was part of a general policy banning all religious and political symbols.

Religious coverings are a contentious issue in Europe, with Muslim groups arguing that it is mandatory in their religion and should be respected. Austria, France, and Belgium have banned full-faced veiled coverings, but hijabs are allowed.

The Council of European Muslims did not immediately respond to a request for comment by Insider.

The Kano State Government has charged Sheikh Abduljabbar Nasiru Kabara to court over blasphemy and incitement.

The Kano-based Islamic cleric is famous for his controversial religious commentaries and statements that are regarded as statements mortifying the companions and sacrilegious to the Holy Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W).

The State Commissioner for Information, Malam Muhammed Garba, in a statement issued on Friday, said the development followed the receipt of the first information report from the police by the Office of the Attorney General and commissioner for justice which prepared charges against the cleric.

“Abduljabbar was subsequently arraigned on Friday, July 16 before an Upper Sharia Court Judge, Kofar Kudu, Alkali Ibrahim Sarki Yola, where the charges that included blasphemy, incitement, and sundry offences were mentioned”, it noted.

According to the statement after the court sitting, it adjourned the case to July 28, while the scholar would remain under police custody until Monday when he would be sent to prison till the adjourned date.
