Today, being 14th of December 2016, Nnamdi Azikiwe University held the orientation ceremony of new students as in fresher. The hall was filled to capacity, with thousands of students, well over 5000 students I guess… The occasion was attended by the honorable vice chancellor with due respect, the registrar, the bursar and so many others.. at the beginning of the occasion, the vice chancellor asked if any of us students were from awka, it took minutes before a young handsome guy took the bold step forward and he was appreciated enormously.
Everybody was happy, with gleaming expectant faces, without doubt that unizik wasn’t going to disappoint them. After sometime the chief security officer walked in, and he wasn’t really greeted quite warmly. Oh! I forgot to mention that we were forced to learn the unizik anthem, which was quite dumb, as the song was a bit boring… kidding… lol, the song was quite interesting and easy to learn.

The music department led us into the song, with great beautiful voices, and then a fresher was called to continue, alas! We were shocked as it wasn’t quite as we expected as she almost killed us, lol.
The vice chancellor also addressed us, talked about a few things, warned us about the admission process and told us to report ourselves if we paid money to be admitted.. who does that­­… well, he made some other boring points, and people clapped without reason, admist making funny animal noises

The funny thing is, the time for the occasion was set at 10am, but it was actually started by 1pm, imagine! We even had to wait uncomfortably under the heat before the power was put on, as we do not have constant electricity in Nigeria. Which is quite a disadvantage as students...

According to a Facebook user, Poligbe Junior Tarlue, the incident which happened in a town in Liberia, the attacker who has been arrested, has been friends with the victim for years until they had a fallout and the attacker accused her friend of the being the brain behind her separation from her boyfriend.

She then went ahead to further accuse the friend of dating the ex-boyfriend, something the victim denied vehemently but her explanation did not sit well with the jilted girl who engaged her friend in the bloody fight that led to her slashing her face, only missing the victim's left eye by divine intervention.

The injured girl, according to Tarlue, is currently receiving treatment while the attacker is in police detention and would be charged to court soon for assault

The Kaduna Police Command on Sunday confirmed the kidnapping of a former minister of foreign affairs Bagudu Hirse » , by unidentified gunmen.
The Command’s Public Relation officer, ASP Aliyu Usman, confirmed the incident in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Kaduna.

Usman said no arrest had been made so far, but the command had intensified efforts to track down the gunmen and free the former minister unhurt.
“ The command will not sit and allow criminals to take laws into their hands. We will make sure that we arrest those criminal and they will face the law.

“We are committed to protect lives and property of the people. We also appeal to the public for useful any information that will lead to the arrest of the criminals, ” Usman said.
An eyewitness, who pleaded anonymity, told NAN that the incident occurred at Inuwa Wada Road in Unguwar Rimi GRA, Kaduna.
The eyewitness said that the former minister, in the company of his friend, had gone to pay condolence visit to the family of the late Sultan of Sokoto, Ibrahim Dasuki.
“ The three young gunmen jumped down from a car and accosted the former minister almost immediately.

“From what I could hear, they were asking him to get into their car but he was trying to seek further explanations from them, at that time, people started approaching the scene.
“One of the gunmen raised a gun he was holding and made to shoot but it did not fire, he tried it the second time and it failed, but the third time, he shot into the air

“Upon hearing the gun shot, people ran for their lives,” the eyewitness said.

Stylish Nollywood actor, IK Ogbonna, thinks there is nothing wrong in men wearing earrings or getting tattoos as such actions does not define anyone.

In an interview with Vanguard News , the actor insisted that God did not create earrings, yet women wear them.
For this reason, he does not reckon that there should be an issue when men are seen putting them on.

“Who invented earrings?” he began.
“God didn’t create earrings but girls are wearing earrings. These are things that people created overtime and then it became a norm and then people accepted it.
"So someone shouldn’t just look at you and say Oh you’re a man, you shouldn’t wear earring.
"If you feel comfortable wearing earring, wear earring and worship God.
"If you feel comfortable having a tattoo, have a tattoo and worship God.
"There are people that don’t have tattoos on their body but they preach hate, they preach lots of hate.
“So let people focus more on major primary issues instead, and not IK Ogbonna’s tattoos and earrings.
"I’m going to keep my tattoos and earrings for as long as possible.
"I might even give my son an earring to wear."

Ogbonna, who is married to Columbian beauty,

A total of 200,000 graduates with full employment by the Federal Government will resume work on December 1, 2016.

According to multiple reports, the graduates have been employed as teachers, agriculture and health workers.

In a statement by the Senior Special Assistant to the Vice President on Media and Publicity, Laolu Akande , the names of the qualified and selected graduates had been sent to states and the Federal Capital Territory for deployment.

Akande stated: " All together, the N-Power will engage and train 500,000 young unemployed graduates. It's a paid volunteering programme of a 2-year duration that engages graduates in their immediate communities where they'll assist in improving the inadequacies in the education, health and agriculture sectors.

"The 500,000 graduates under the N-Power Corps programme will be trained in skills that'll enable them exit after two years to economically viable job and business opportunities. As part of the programme, the participants will own tablets that'll contain information necessary for their specific engagements as well as information for their continuous training and developments.

"Participants will be provided with teaching, instructional and advisory solutions in 4 main focus areas, and will be paid a monthly stipend of N30,000 during the programme. The 4 main focus areas are in basic education, agriculture extension services, public health and community education (civic and adult education).

"Besides the N-Power programme for undergraduates, there are other schemes for non-graduates. These are: N-Power Knowledge, which would select 25,000 young Nigerians and N-Power Build 75,000 all of whom shall be trained and paid during the duration of the scheme," Akande said.
The VP's spokesman also said state governments and the FCT were encouraged to post the names of the successful first batch applicants in their local government areas pending further public announcements.

In his words: " Between now and the end of the month, the states and the FCT would be engaged in deploying the graduates who would formally start working and earning their stipends on December 1, 2016. "

Akande explained that of the 200,000 first batch, 150,000 of them would teach, 30,000 would work in the agricultural sector and 20,000 in healthcare delivery.

The Jigawa State Government is ready to sponsor 130 persons who have registered for marriage at Gwaram Local Government.

Malam Nasiru Yusif , the Information Officer of the local government council disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
According to him, the people who registered comprised of 80 men and 50 women.

Malam Abdullahi Basirka , the Chairman of the Local Organising Committee for the wedding confirmed this on Thursday, November 17, 2016.
The Council Chairman, Alhaji Ilu Shuwarin, also reiterated the LG's commitment into ensuring the success of the programme.

A suicide bomber has been gunned down by security operatives after attempting t penetrate an Internally Displaced Persons camp in Borno.
TheCable reports that the security operatives in the IDPs transit camp situated in Muna garage, Maiduguri were drawn to the attacker after he exhibited a strange attitude.

It was further reported that the attacker was shot before he could detonate the explosive device attached to him in the camp on Saturday, November 19, 2016.

The transit camp, it was also reported, is used to check and screen potential displaced people before being allowed into any of the IDP camps in Borno.

Ibrahim Abdulkadir confirmed the incident saying the mangled body of the attacker had been evacuated.

This is coming barely 24 hours after multiple explosions killed six people in Maiduguri on Friday, November 18, 2016.
