The VO cornered you here real good. and strengthened his resolve to deny you the visa , because you went ahead to waste application fees on a school, that didn't offer what you were looking for; Huge red flag sign of a desperado.

all this was just formality, dude already resolved to deny you minutes ago.
CONCLUSION: Aim for a Postgraduate degree, in a somewhat better school.

Its not how far but how well ....most application for fall has ended . Take your time and apply properly and if you need to write TOEFL or GRE then so be it

That you dont know that the ESL is not a master program means you need to start from the begining and understand what you are applying for or you want to dash the embassy your visa fee ...

Why would a VO give you a visa to go to the US to learn basic english. Is Nigeria not an english speaking country ? . This is program for people who english is a second language and is not an academic credit program

That what happens when you dont do things yourself and learn from it . If you have a bsc then its really not that difficult. Go online read about schools amd their requirements and that helps shape what u need to do

NB: when applying to a small , expensive private Institution, and the VO asks why this school, please don't give the crap about One Prof and research gbogbonise. Give very sane responses that would justify the thousands of dollars you want to shell out for a degree. Possible responses could include.
1. The alumni Network - you could stress some simple stats such as " 90% of alumni at xyz are consultants in the big 4 and I am hoping to benefit from this rich network in accelerating my career"
2. specialisations - several small schools have specialisations which cannot really be found anywhere and you can give response such as " the consumer behaviour stochastic modelling study at xyz which is one of kind offers new possibilities which I most definitely want to exploit"
3. Financial Aid- If you get any form of aid from the school wether merit based or otherwise, that is enough reason to pick a school as money no dey grow untop tree.
4. location and other miscellaneous factors - A college in Wyoming would be best suited for a prospective geophysical or geological student... Iowa will be best for them Agricultural Folks, and Louisiana, if youre yammering on the shale boys for oil.

You can request for a new i20 if you still have time which I doubt. However, that is not a problem, once the VO ask you how you intend to fund your studies, you can now chip in that you got a GTA and make sure you print the award letter stating how much the GTA will offset in your Tuition bill and stipend as proof. You are not the first and you wont be the last. You should be fine.

Me: I chose Tamuk bcoz my dept offers a concentration in drugs and Substance abuse within their MS Criminology program and I am particularly interested in that area coz it's identified as a threat to global security

Me: Tamuk and University of Missouri
V.O: why chose Tamuk over Missouri
Me: I had a good relationship with Dr xyz who has an ongoing research in drug and substance abis and he was quite impressed with my statement of purpose and Gpa thereby making him to agree to let me join his research team upon arrival.

The grace of God actually worked for me coz the guy was strictest among the VOs available this morning. Pray and have faith in God, the. You'll be surprised at the extent you can go.
