I don't understand your post, but I don't see how Christians celebrate the new year the pagan-way. We do it the God-way

In my case, I was born into a Christian home, raised a Christian, my Dad became a pastor at some point, I also later became "born again" and started preaching and doing all that Christian stuff until one day... I slept woke up and read the bible and it all just stopped making any sense to me.. The more I tried, the less sense it made. I contacted a pastor and had a discussion that turned into a debate. He ended up telling me I was possessed by a demon.. prayer started to feel really silly to me, speaking in tongues started sounded like lunacy. In fact, everything just fell apart.. I was not influenced by friends or anything, I arrived here on my own.

Now my mum has basically given up on me.. My dad would not talk about it. My siblings are indifferent. My wife is neither for it nor does she stress me about it.

So all I do is go to church with my Dad whenever I visit. I avoid religious conversations with them or around them. I pray with them and do whatever's it is that pleases them. The fact that I am who I am does not mean I can't respect their feelings and way of life. None of us really know the answers to life..

So my guy, pretend when around them. That's my advice.

Jeeeeez... None. It would be a privilege meeting one. I'd make the most use of the opportunity.

I know one thing for sure.... Atheist spend so much time trying to convince themselves that there is no God..... When they have succeeded with that, they try to convince or rather confuse others, but within their subconsciousness, they know there is a God.

So I will speak of when I was almost losing faith. I was the typical religious kid. The "typical christian", even in scripture union since I was an infant. I feared hell, church was boring, the bible was boring. Didn't know Christ. Was beginning to lose faith. Maybe if I had come on nairaland in those days, I would have become a "staunch secret" atheist. I have enough vocal skill, I have enough strength of words to evoke decision-making change, I have an uncanny ability to steer people to my side with "natural words".(All these have changed now)

But Just before that, I had the encounter, and became born-again. Yes, went for a camp-meeting, and was plunged into the depths of God-reality, never to break out again. All those years, I thought I knew God, I was wasting my time, I didn't really believe, any oppourtunity I got, I would act like a typical unsaved man. Then I got saved, and I saw the spiritual life in the bible. Then I looked some more, and I saw the intellectual life in those words. The hope. I've been walking with God ever since. I've proved this words:

Hebrews 11:6 No one can please God without faith, for whoever comes to God must have faith that God exists and rewards those who seek him.

Faith in God is reasonable faith born of knowledge, faith in God's non-existence is blind unreasonable faith.

Knowledge of Christ, Is characterized by radical life-change ya know. There are many religious people who have nothing to do with Christ on our streets. We're meeting them. Changing them one by one with Christs light. We're showing the real-deal of Christ to nigeria. Preaching his love and his judgement, narrating salvation, living the life. People see this life, and cannot deny this change. Its yielding fruit. We're being stirred up in nigeria, we stand together for righteousness and integrity. We're everywhere. Look around. We might seem to be working behind the scenes now, but we'll soon burst forth.


So in the midst of my confusion and darkness, as I began to lose faith, I had the God-encounter that changed my life forever. Today as I preach I trust God to flow through the words that I speak, and it bears fruit. The spark changed my friends too. I carry the flame everywhere I go. And by God, my life will continue to bear witness with this message that encompasses man's all.

I had the same experience. Was very religious and I had a good moral upbringing. Was a Christian by religion but not by faith, until not long ago when I actually got born again, and I began to feel the Holy Spirit in me. Now I can do things I couldn't do before, the burden of hypocrisy has been lifted and I can talk to people about Christ.
I keep praying for atheist around the world coz they are spiritually dead. And also for the Christians who are hypocrites, and for those of other religions to come to the saving grace of Christ.

Very funny... People advertising their different religions. There are only two things that can happen... Either the one true God, the maker of heaven and earth, the one whose son is Jesus, arrests you like he did Paul. (in this case u will be very lucky) or whenever you die, you learn the very hard way that there is a God, who is a loving God and a consuming fire @ the same time.
I'd just say... Keep living your life, keep your mind open and if God pleases, he will reveal himself to you. As for your mum, she's one of the best mums on earth, I'm sure.

When you guys make a reasonable point, I will reply you. Am not here for phantasmagoria.

The op also stated that we are not killjoys, yet someone will just respond as if he sees nothing. I ve not seen anyone that challenged that the festival is pagan. but just spewing twoddle, nor have anyone raised good argument against the averment .

Pagans celebrate and make sacrifices to their own gods for the cross over. Give me a reason why Christians shouldn't celebrate all the more when they worship the only true God.

The fact that there are pagan practices on the 1st day of the year, doesn't stop Christians from being as merry as they can be. It's a new beginning, a time of Thanksgiving and celebrations, a time to renew friendship, and a time of rededication. I don't see any place of the Bible that directly or indirectly stops Christians from festivities of the new year.

The father xmas ish is the white man's tradition. It doesnt ve anything to do with Christianity.

I'm moved to tears as i read this thread. soooo Many people are not saved. thats y the 'born again' Christian should nt go to sleep after their salvation. God wants to use u to speak to someone. please make urself available to him.

Why I disagree with the die and rose again part or sent from hell part or given a second chance or whatever.
According to the parable of the rich man and lazarus, the rich man begged for some1 from the dead to be sent into the world to warn his family but God said no, even if I sent someone, your people will still not believe.. God changeth not, He is the same yesterday, today and forever.
