Just checked RSA has 11th largest world railway system. Just like it's road network. They are miles away - because they have a big minning industry.

Nigeria can get there if it started minning. Otherwise railways are really useless without a mining industry. Light rail in cities yes - but outside that - railway can only be profitable if it carries minerals and unconventional cargo.

Our Passenger trains are broken up in regions WC, Gauteng, Durban, EC ect ect....they don't need to be fast since they don't travel long distances....the fact is our new passenger trains are state of the art in terms of comfortability, efficiency and safety...and nothing in Nigeria that can match them.

And yes majority of the passenger and freight travel are in SGR. So yeah go figure

Again both SGR and NGR have been around since the 1800s,they ain't modern, they ain't new and there is no difference in terms of modernity between the 2, South Africa chose the NGR due to our terrain and cost efficiency.... Same reason Japan also uses NGR.... Not to mention we have new ultra modern passenger trains that beats anything in Nigeria and most of Africa in fact.


Also the new thing is maglev trains if Nigeria gets that then I'll be impressed.... But 200 year old SGR does not impress me.

You do know SGR has been around since the 1800?? Its not new, its not modern, it's just the gauge width that differ from NGR.

65mph is not HSR. And as for SA you are gradually loosing relevance.Apart from maybe gautrain which apparently still moves slower than most new trains in Nigeria the rest are just minor archaic NGR of two centuries back. same thing like the US. This alone should tell you Nigeria can still surpass u in infrastructure. Admittedly yes u have a more longer line but they are all old useless crappy snail paced NGR. Nigeria on the other hand is transforming her old NGR to SGR and still building new one. I bet once we are done with Atleast Lagos to calabar Atleast let say in the next four year we would have covered the country rail blueprint by Atleast 60%. And if we add k on this -Kano then we are looking at 80% - All SGR.

It’s can barely compete with those in Abuja,upcoming ones in Lagos. Like SA,America has a primitive rail culture with crappy outdated train lines abd cars. And that’s what your get when there is a corrupt forepllsy by the automobile industries and the govt to stay prosperous thereby gradually phasing out other means of transportation that stands as a competition. US used to be the railway capital of the world but all that changed as the automobile industry de ides to go in bed with the govt in the middle 2Oth century. This Amtrak line (Dc-newyork-Boston) can only do 65mph between newyork and Boston. Heck on an average it’s does 34miles out of its 457 mile span and this is what you intended comparing with Chima’s over 29,000km of HSR with about 10 times the US shameful speed.

There are talks to head back and finish that white abandoned project in San Francisco that might truly give the US her first HSR but the US is too broke to complete it or should I say the cost of the project is way too expensive for the value of the project
