NBA Comparison: Dwyane Wade/Jason Kidd

Strengths: A breath taking athlete with terrific size for the point guard position at 6-4 ,  His upside is truly special … An absolutely dazzling dunker with blinding speed ,  Likely to be the most athletic PG in the league for years to come … A point guard in the truest sense of the word. His development in this area has been phenomenal in the past 2 years (which is apparent when you read his profile from a year and a half ago) … Knows how to run a team, and raises the level of play of his teammates … A pass-first point guard with excellent court vision … Has a rare ability to create passing lanes – finding and creating shots for teammates who do not appear to be open … A relentless defender with quick hands and length. Gets low and will lock his man down on defense and should only improve. Gives the same intensity and effort on both ends of the floor … Excellent handle on the ball, with a deadly crossover, very tough to contain one on one … A constant threat to blow by his man off the dribble … Rarely shows much emotion, very calm on and off-court demeanor, does not get rattled easily … Plays with a high level of intensity remaining level-headed … Deadly on the fast break with his passing ability and athleticism … Powerful leaper. Can get his head at rim level and has the strength to go into traffic and dunk on people … Catlike quickness and body control … Excellent finisher around the basket even after contact… Clutch player who raises his level of play against good competition and wants the ball in crunch time … Hits his foul shots at a good rate … Very team-oriented with a great attitude. Willing to learn, very coachable and still improving … Accustomed to the 'family feeling' with his teams (he is very close with his high school teammates, and his AAU team, coached by his brother, consisting mostly of his high school teammates). Has a close knit group surrounding him and protecting his future … Tough as nails competitor. A warrior who leaves it out on the floor every time out … A true floor general who shows a solid understanding of the game. Good decision maker. … Has very long arms and strong hands … Loves to drive and hang in the air and shoot when he’s cleared the defense … Very crafty at making shots around the basket, especially fadeways getting great height on his jumpers … Excellent rebounder due to his size, strength and tenacity …

Weaknesses: Mechanics on his shot are not fluid, so he may need to adjust it some as he sort of slings the ball from his shoulder, though his shot has shown steady improvement … A streaky shooter, can go through cold spells … More effective in an up-tempo game, understands tempo but his speed obviously makes running logical and is still less effective in the half court … Underdeveloped moves off the dribble. He can become more polished creating shots from the perimeter (ala OJ Mayo) … Right now relies almost exclusively on his power, handle, and quickness to get by defenders … Can become a lot better at running the pick and roll … Has the size to post up PGs all day. He shows great strength and intensity inside but has underutilized back to the basket skills … Sometimes appears to be coasting during games, though I believe this is when he is getting a feel for the tempo of the game, and he is reluctant to force things… Not much of a vocal leader, but certainly leads by example. And this is sure to develop with maturity … A year or two in college will do wonders for his grasp of the point guard position. Easily the toughest to master on the NBA level … Had a tendency to rely too much on his athleticism early in his high school career, but has developed other facets of his game …

IMAGINE HIM AND D-WADE IN THE BACKCOURT TOGETHER. . .
Sports / Re: Miami Heat Should Tank The Season And Get Derrick Rose by WadeFTW: 9:32pm On Jan 05, 2008
davidif:

This is not the NFL were a team can tank the season and be assured of the no. 1 pick in the draft, in the NBA its a lottery. Remember what happened to Rick Pitino and the Celts when Tim Duncan was coming out of college back in '98, even last year Boston got screwed again by the lottery balls and missed out on the man child himself. The NBA created the lottery system to prevent situations like tanking (even though, the worst team is given the highest probability of winning the no. 1 pick). Also, concerning the PG position, it is probably the most difficult position to learn in the NBA so who knows how long it will take the kid to mature, i would rather draft D.J. Augustin of Texas since he is a pure point rather than a shooting guard playing the point.

This statement reveals you have no idea who Derrick Rose is. Normally, when scouts evalute a point guard, first and foremost, they would pinpoint whether or not he has a combo guard or shooting guard mentality. Every scout has said this kid is a true PG, not like your prototypical combo/shooting guard. The youtube video was just to show his athleticism. On NBADraft.net and other hoop sites, the kid is regarded as a floor general and can run a team better than most PGs in the NBA. He is in NO WAY a shooting guard. Derrick Rose is also a lockdown defender with the athleticism of LeBron James (as you saw in that video), a good rebounder with a great attitude.

O.J Mayo is a combo guard, not Derrick Rose. Please do your homework next time before talking hoops, especially with me.

Oh yeah, and Bayless is better than that Augustin guy you brought up, if in case the balls don't bounce our way.

You gotta love the Mavs man do you have a choice? Suns cannot win the playoffs for one reason they can't beat the Spurs till they do that they should forget it.Mavs all the way

LOL. Mavs choked in the first round of the playoffs last year against the 8th seeded Warriors. What makes you think they could even compete with the Spurs (or the Suns)? 2006 they only beat the Spurs because Donaghy the refs decided to call the game.

I 'm not so sure(after all) about what I said about the Heat kicking ass when Wade gets bak to near 100%,
I mean, he's back now and they still suck, they ought to make some major changes to that team, they wont get anywhere with their current roster, I know this'll definitely elicit some spiteful retorts from WadeFTW, but dude, if u're really a hoops guru like u said u are, u'll concur with my argument,

Anyway I hear they are trying to trade JWill and RDavis for Bibby and Artest, They should do it,

When you have Shaq and Wade, you need your PG to be able to make 3s to punish the defense when it collapses on those two guys. They need a guy like Damon Jones, but who can play a little defense. When you play with Shaq and Wade, you're going to get a lot of open looks from outside. If you can't shoot, guess who's going to be doing the doubling on those guys?

I think both Bibby and Artest would be good complement to both Wade and Shaq, but I don't think the Heat will get him, because the NBA is always about business first and foremost.

Though Jason Williams is in the last year of his contract (cap space) both Bibby and Artest have a couple years left making more money than the Heat want to pay them. It is business as usual in the NBA. Kapono is the same thing. Obviously he is better than Luke Jackson, but the Heat did not feel he was worth the salary the Raptors were offering. Luke Jackson will make the league minimum. Again, it is about the money and business as usual in the NBA.
Sports / Re: Olajuwon Vs. Shaq by WadeFTW: 6:12pm On Dec 17, 2007
How could Shaq have better post moves than "The Dream" have any of you seen the "Dream Shake" y'all need to check it out on Youtube, it was absolutely (i mean absolutely) indefensible in other words, UNSTOPPABLE. Shaq had raw power; he is a freak of nature, his combination of size 7'2 over 300 pounds  and athleticism made him dominant (look how he bullied Dikembe Mutombo in the Finals in 2000)       . But Olajuwon for me was the more skillful centre and by far the most athletic and was overall the more complete centre.

So what you're basically saying here is that Dream's post play was much more versatile (more moves), which I agree 100%, but, other than Wilt, NO ONE had a more dominant post game than Shaq.

If you disagree with this statement then there's no reason to argue.

If you don't believe that Shaq's post moves wer more effective (not versatile) then you need to ante up some of that crack you got there
Sports / Re: Olajuwon Vs. Shaq by WadeFTW: 6:06pm On Dec 17, 2007
A-40:

Shaq was a bully and always had great supporting cast.Kobe,Wade same cannot be said for Olajuwon i agree with Mr Wade but when it comes to the post play i insist Olajuwon was the master and when they faced head to head Olajuwon easily whooped Shaq's ass

Hakeem post play had more variety. Shaq's post play was more dominant and effective

Both of their post plays was the greatest I've ever seen, but Shaq's post play was unrivaled by anyone not named Wilt Chamberlain.

Fact.

Olajuwon did abuse Shaq in the '95 Finals en route to a consecutive championship win. However, don't try and act as if Shaq didn't have his way against Dream either (28 PPG).

Also, I would also have a prime Shaq (circa 2000) than a prime Dream (mid 90s), although I do believe that Dream was the better individual player (by far). Shaq, in his prime consistently commanded triple teams, making it easier for guys like Kobe and Fisher to penetrate under the wing.

I don't believe anyone forced opposing coaches to change their gameplan more frequently (other than MJ and probably Wilt) than Shaquille O'Neal.

It just goes to tell you that scouting is no science.

No doubt. You could even look at it the other way around. . .Ben Wallace is a great example. Wasn't rated a high NBA prospect coming out of a Division II bball program, and now look at the impact he has on games (his 4X Defensive Player Of The Year awards to showcase) and that big contract he signed with Chicago a few years ago.

@wade ftw can you please post without givin us some link you got from your neigbour the question is by watching the both of them what do you think mr know all keep your stats to yourself

I did say i will comment later i prefer ginobili because i think the only thing barbosa has going for him is speed manu on the other hand is a better all round player i mean you do not become one of the magic three of spurs by jazz (juju not utah)
and you say ginobili is dirty try kobe he makes the contact before shooting to get the chance of a three point play
another comparism whose fuse is shorter rasheed or ben wallace
my vote is rasheed too many technicals
You're an idiot. I'm actually posting subjective and factual evidence on why I believe Ginobli is better and you're telling me that those stats are not legit? On top of it all, you want me to give you an opinionated view on why Ginobli is better and you're also questioning the credibility of my link, hence the site 82games.com. 82games is one of the most accurate and credible NBA sites and in most cases those sabermetrics are right on.

Even if you look at the comparison of Ginobli vs Barbosa at face value, there's no explanation needed why Ginobli is obviously the superior player.

Real NBA fans know that "Barbosa" and "Ginobli" shouldn't appear in the same sentence.

BlackMamba:

Both are great, but Shaq is greater. Simply because, put in the same condition, Shaq will deliver more championships, which is the bottom line.

I still believe that Shaq is greater.

But, understand that Shaq had Penny, Wade and Kobe. Without Kobe and Wade, I question the titles.

Dream never had a guy (other than an over-the-hill Clyde Drexler) with the caliber of those 3, yet he still won championships.

Imagine Olajuwon with a Penny/Wade/Kobe on the same team. That would be scary.

Also, remember that Dream won all his championships in an era full of dominating centers where they weren't any handcheck rules (Ewing, Admiral, Shaq, etc, ) whereas Shaq won his rings playing in a watered down era for centers where you had the handcheck and the defensive 3 second rules.

You have to become a walking NBA encyclopedia like me to root out some variables.

Hmm i don't agree man i still think Olajuwon was the best post player.Olajuwon had more skill even though Shaq was somewhat hyped so you could say Shaq was greater but in an average team i would rather have Shaq his presence intimidates defenders a lot

How can Dream be a better post player? All Shaq had WAS THE POST MOVE in his offensive repertoire. His post moves are regarded the most dominant (along with Wilt Chamberlain) in NBA history.

Maybe you meant that Dream had so many moves in the post was more versatile. Then I would agree, but Shaq's post game were far more dominant.

I mean, the advent of the anticipation "Hack-a-Shaq" was b/c Shaq dominance in the post
Sports / Re: Olajuwon Vs. Shaq by WadeFTW: 5:59pm On Dec 11, 2007
A-40:

That is a tough call i will slightly go for SHAQ because he won more rings and was more dominant but when it comes to post play Olajuwon was a don
Actually, you've got it the other way around:

Post play went to Shaq hands down. Everything else is Olajuwon (Defense, Passing, Rebounding, Playing w/o the ball, Dribbling, etc, )

Obviously Dream was more skilled. Shaq was so dominant, that's why he gets an exception.

But, let's not forget that these cats went Head-to-Head in the Finals w/ Shaq having Penny, and Olajuwon not having nearly as good of supporting cast. Basically, all Dream's supporting casts were nothing more than 3-point specialists. Dream humiliated Shaq in that series.

But I say Shaq is GREATER (not better) because of the better combination of team success and individual accolades.

Talent/Skill wise, Dream is obviously better.

Shaq himself said that Dream is better and Michael Jordan included Dream in his all-90's starting 5, leaving out Shaq.

Wade FTW,

But anyways about the sixth man, Yes Ginobili is good, bla bla bla, But I personally prefer Barbosa, because Ginobli is a dirty player, he likes to flop at the time, u knw the refs and Comm ish Stern are all biased in Spurs's favor (Re: last yr playoffs; west. semi finals), and the Spurs are the most boring team in the world,

So there u have it,

Just another reason why Manu is better than Barbosa.

Lets look at the facts. Lets look at the numbers.

Something you might want to look at. Here are some advanced statistics using ABPR metrics from 82games.com Each player's +/- (impact on the team when they are on or off the floor).

First, Manu

http://www.82games.com/0708/07SAS3D.HTM

Then, Barbosa.

http://www.82games.com/0708/07PHO3D.HTM

As you can see from that, Manu actually seems to be a bigger influence on the offensive side. On offense Barbosa per 100 possessions has a 3.2 NET loss. That means that Barbosa actually makes his team worse offensively when he's on the court. Manu per 100 possessions has a 10.5 NET gain. That's a difference of 13.7.

Looking at those stats, I prefer Manu.

Barbosa is only faster. . .other than that, it's not really close. You may call Manu a flopper, but he's still twice the defender as Barbosa. Here's some proof by using the same system:

Manu on defense with a NET loss of 8.1 as compared to 1.9 NET loss for Barbosa. This means that Spurs allow 8.1 less points (per 100 possessions) w/ Manu on the court while Phoenix only allow 1.9 less.

Some real OWNAGE right there

I think Shaq is definitely the most dominant centre of all time, with no disrespect to Bill Russell, Wilt chamberlain and Kareem Abdul Jabbar who played in different eras. The dream too is also one of the all time great centres. He is by far the most athletic centre ever. He was like a guard trapped in a centre's body. The guy could what all these guys couldn't (did you ever see this guy running the floor on a fastbreak). Plus, the guy schooled Shaq when he came into the league, and he ate David Robinson for dinner in the western conference finals. Also, who can forget that gloriously unstoppable "dream shake"?, till today, nobody can stop that move ha ha. If Clyde "the glide" Drexler had stayed with the dream instead of going to portland, who knows how many more championships they would have won.

Couldn't have said it better myself.

Dream was more skilled and had an array of moves.

But Shaq was the more dominant player,

Defense, it's not even close. . .Olajuwon>>>Shaq.

I believe Dream was the better individual talent, but Shaq was the greater player because of I believe he had the better combination of invidual accolades and team success.
