Kuti said that the ministry of works was going to hold a meeting with stakeholders tomorrow to discuss how to manage traffic during the repairs. He, however, did not specify the exact date the bridge would be closed to traffic or how long the repairs would last. According to him, stakeholders attending the meeting to discuss the repairs include traffic regulatory agencies, transport unions, truck owners and drivers’ unions, law enforcement agents, among others. “The Federal Executive Council has approved the maintenance work on the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos State. “The project has taken off already and in carrying out the work, we may at certain times be shutting down the bridge for maintenance. “At the moment we may begin with tests on the bridge, so, we may shut it by 12 midnight on Thursday and carry out tests and some repairs and open it to traffic by midnight on Sunday.’’ He said that six other damaged bridges across the state were already undergoing maintenance and rehabilitation. “We have contracts on maintenance of some of the bridges in Lagos. “We are completing maintenance work on the expansion joints on the Coconut Bridge. “We expecting the contractor to start work on the Independence Bridge in Lagos. “There is repair work going on currently on the Apapa Bridge, that is, Ijora/Leventis Bridge. “Maintenance work is ongoing on the Ijora-7up Bridge, we are also changing the expansion joints. “On the bridge around the National Stadium area, we are putting covers to all the stolen manholes, we are replacing the steel covers from stadium to Costain,” he said. The controller said that some tests had been carried out on the Otedola Bridge, whose surface was recently burnt during a tanker fire. GIST FROM WAKABOBO.COM Teachers in Ekiti State have told the Department of State Services to immediately release three teachers in its custody in the interest of peace. The three teachers were arrested while allegedly duplicating Permanent Voter Cards at Ola Oluwa Grammar School, Ilawe Road, Ado Ekiti. The teachers under the auspices of the Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools also denied working for the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Dr Kayode Fayemi. The ASUSS Chairman, Sola Adigun, on Sunday, said the continued detention of the teachers was not in the best interest of the state, saying his colleagues were apolitical and should not be intimidated by any security agency. Adigun urged the people of the state to discountenance a statement in circulation that it was working for Fayemi. “The said statement, which could not be signed by the said faceless individuals for obvious display of cowardice, has been transmitted in the social media,” he noted. |
GIST FROM WAKABOBO Residents of the NITEL/Mtel Estate in Ikorodu, have accused the Lagos State Police Command of abandoning them by failing to provide protection for them from land grabbers, popularly known as omoniles, as ordered by the court. According to the residents, an Ikorodu High Court had ordered the Commissioner of Police in Lagos State to station on a permanent basis, a contingent of armed policemen in the estate to ensure that no construction activities goes on there as well as prevent intruders on the property. They added that the court, presided over by Justice Lawal Akapo, had also ordered the Area Commander, Area N, Ijede Command, being the nearest area command, to station armed policemen in the estate on a permanent basis to ensure law and order, and prevent further activities on the property pending the determination of case. “The court ordered the police to provide protection for residents but nothing has been done; it has been business as usual for the omoniles,” a resident told our correspondent. The PUNCH had about two months ago reported that residents of the NITEL/Mtel Estate had cried out for help following an alleged threat to their lives and properties by land grabbers. The residents had alleged that in the last two years, armed land grabbers had taken over the estate, selling plots of land yet to be developed by some of the allottees and generally making the area unsafe for them, while all efforts to get help from law enforcement agents had proved abortive. They said plots of land were allocated to them around 2007, when NITEL went into liquidation, and Natcom Development and Investment Limited acquired the core telecommunications assets previously owned by NITEL/Mtel. They added that several people got allocations, but in 2015, a family came forward and instituted a legal action challenging the validity of sale to the allotees by the NITEL liquidator. The residents said following the suit, there had been breakdown of law and order, which had led to armed robbery attacks in the estate, which houses over 100 families. “There is still no security here; the omoniles have brought in armed people known as ‘ajagungbales’ to terrorise us and we live in fear. Up till now, construction is still going on, even on manholes and cable lines, and nobody is talking. It is as if the police have abandoned us to our fate,” a resident said. The residents had earlier alleged that they sent a petition to the Area Commander in Ijede but nothing was done. “We also wrote a petition to the Commissioner of Police and he sent the petition to the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Panti, but nothing has been done. Now, the court has even ordered them to provide protection and nothing is being done,” another resident lamented. The Public Relations Officer, Lagos State Police Command, Chike Oti, a Superintendent of Police, who spoke with our correspondent on the telephone, said he was not aware of any court injunction asking the police to guard the estate. “No order has been served on us to that effect. I am not aware of any order like that. If it exists, let them take it to the legal department for interpretation and action will be taken on it,” he said. GIST FROM WAKABOBO.COM Researchers have found and recorded the coldest place on Earth using satellite. Located on an ice sheet deep in Antarctica, the area is minus 62 degree centigrade (-144 degree Fahrenheit). According to scientists, this might be the coldest it would ever be due to global warming. According to Ted Scambos, a researcher at the National Snow and Ice Data Center at the University of Colorado, Boulder, the place is so cold that it looks like another planet. The coldest ever place recorded was the Russian Vostok Station near the South Pole which was minus 53 degrees Celsius in 1983. Just like the newly discovered coldest place on Earth, inhaling the air in such cold weather is a death sentence,Popular Mechanics reports. According to scientists, inhaling more than a few breaths of air that cold would cause human lungs to hemorrhage. The Russian scientists who investigated the former coldest place, had to wear masks that warmed the air before they breathed in. GIST FROM WAKABOBO.COM The Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria on Tuesday said that there was no law prohibiting Christians from defending themselves because if pushed to the wall, the church could react. The President of PFN, Rev. Felix Omobude, issued the warning during a meeting with Christians at the Living Faith Bible Church (aka Winners Chapel) in Jos, after paying a condolence visit to Governor Simon Lalong of Plateau State on the killing of over 200 persons in three Local Government Areas by suspected Fulani herdsmen. He said, “We call on the government to fish out the perpetrators of this evil across the land. We want to see them get punished; we want to see them answer for their crimes. What has happened in the past, and when it happens like this, is that the most the government will say is to condemn it. We want to see beyond mere condemnation. We want those shielding these evil men to be exposed. “We will continue to call on Christians to follow the path of peace in line with the injunctions of our faith. I want to sound it unequivocally that the people perpetrating this evil should not think they have a monopoly of violence. The peace drive and peace-making efforts of the church should not be misunderstood to be a weakness. If pushed to the wall, the church can react. There is no law that forbids Christians from defending themselves. We cannot continue to be on the receiving end.” Omobude said the recent killings in Plateau State had touched the leadership of the PFN and “we are here to tender our condolences to the government and people of Plateau state.” He said, “On the occasion of this visit, the PFN is calling on the Federal Government led by President Muhammadu Buhari to rise to the challenge and secure the lives and properties of Nigerians. It is the primary responsibility that the government owes the people. “We call on the governments, federal and states, especially when we understand that one of the campaign promises of this present Federal Government was security, to protect lives and properties. Never in the history of this nation has innocent blood been shed across the land as we are witnessing. Our security agencies should rise to the challenge. A nation that cannot secure the lives and properties of her people is not yet free.” The cleric also called on Christians in particular and Nigerians in general to use the opportunity of the nation’s democracy to endorse good leaders and vote out the bad eggs in the 2019 general elections. Omobude also opposed the proposed ranching policy of the Federal Government saying in Europe, United Kingdom and America, people consume beef, adding, “yet, you don’t see cows being paraded on the streets.” Meanwhile, a former Governor of Plateau State and Senator representing the Plateau North Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Jonah David Jang, has dismissed his alleged link with the recent killings in the state. He said, “Doesn’t that sound funny that Jonah Jang, a Berom man from Plateau State, is organising Fulani herdsmen to come and kill Beroms or which killings are they talking about? Over 200 people have been killed in some LGAs here including Barkin Ladi, Riyom, Bassa, Bokkos, Mangu and somebody is protesting in Abuja that I am behind the killings. So, I am the person who put the arms in the hands of Fulani herdsmen to come and kill my people so that I will be the only Berom man to live with my family or what? Does that make sense?” “It is a pity that politics is turning to what it is in Nigeria. I believe that everything is being done to find a reason to incarcerate me so that I will not participate in the ongoing politics. I am the Senator representing Plateau North, I may be re-contesting the Senate, and I may be contesting a higher position. That decision is in the making and the Peoples Democratic Party is working very hard to win the election on the Plateau and I am a key figure here on the Plateau.” Culled from>>>>https://wakabobo.com/killings-no-law-forbids-christians-from-self-defence-says-pfn/ Cc; Lalasticlala, Mynd44

GIST FROM WAKABOBO.COM In an Interview with Punchng Popular Nollywood actress, Dayo Amusa, shares some of her experiences with Ademola Olonilua You recently delved into music to the amazement of most of your fans, why did it take you this long to pursue that passion? I think it took me this long to showcase my musical talent because I got more attention from my acting career which has spanned over a decade. I had to embrace my acting career and make sure my foot was solid on that soil. When I realised that I was fulfilled in my acting career, I decided to give my singing career a shot. This is a talent I know I have always had and I even sing behind the camera or when I am with my friends. When I produced my movie, ‘Unforgivable,’ I did the soundtrack for it. A lot of people were amazed. The feedback I got was what made me put some seriousness into my music. I just felt it was another way to reach out to my fans. How has the feedback been for you since you ventured into music? To be honest, I love it when people criticise what I do; I seriously look out for critics. To my surprise, I have not had an occasion whereby my fans would ask me why I ventured into music. There are some people that wonder why I do music but they are all entitled to their opinion. Till date, I have only been receiving positive reviews. The encouraging comments I have been getting is what has motivated me to continue doing music. There are a lot of popular female musicians like Tiwa, Omawumi, Yemi Alade to mention a few; how do you hope to compete with them? I do not think I am into any competition with anyone in my field either in the music or movie sector. I try as much as possible to be at the right place at the right time while I do the right things. All the mentioned names are people that have done wonderfully well individually but the sky is so wide for all the stars to shine. I cannot be intimidated and I am not in competition with any of them because they are doing good music. You are an actress, a singer and a proprietress of two schools. How have you been copping? I would say that acting and singing are both under entertainment, so I have a way of scheduling that effortlessly. Besides, my mother always says if you fail to plan, you plan to fail. I do not rush into any venture; instead, I take my time and organise everything. I have a team that I work with, so it makes my tasks easy. It also helps me plan my life. The report that I have two schools is not entirely true; the edifice I have in Ibadan is actually a fun fare garden while in Lagos, I have a crèche and not a school. Why did you decide to go into that line of business? Before I ventured into the entertainment industry, I had been a businesswoman. I grew up with my mother who was a trader and I always supported her. I came into the industry in 2002 and as a young aspiring actress, I was doing some petty trade by the side with my colleagues. I would say that I was able to get money for my production outfit through my business. Have you always been comfortable with your tribal marks? Yes, I have always been comfortable with the marks. In fact, if they had been more obvious than this, I would still have been comfortable with then. This is the way people have always seen me from the beginning of my career, so why shouldn’t I flaunt it. When you were growing up, did you like the marks? I have never seen the marks as a problem; in fact, this is the first time my attention is being drawn towards my tribal mark. As a plus size lady, have you always loved your physique? As far as I am concerned, I have always been very comfortable in my own body. I realised that fingers are not equal and everybody has their own way of thinking and they are entitled to their own opinion, so I cannot crucify anyone about how they feel about my size. However, I have always been comfortable in my skin. Has it been easy for you getting clothes you really love despite your physique? It has always been easy for me to get clothes I like but there are times that you see some trendy outfits that would not fit because I am plus sized. Despite that, there are a lot of beautiful products for plus size women that would not even look good on slim girls. Yes, I know they do. Ninety per cent of African men would go for plus size women. Why do you think so? It is because we are very ‘accommodating’. I think the only reason a man would go for a slim lady is due to the ‘slay mama’ trend on social media but when men want to settle, they go for plus size women. It seems one of your hobbies is travelling… Yes, I love travelling. Sometimes I travel with my mother because we are very close and I grew up with her. I am a very busy person, so these are the ways I can create time for my family. Asides travelling, what other things catch your fancy? I like staying indoors; I could be an introvert sometimes. Does it mean that you do not like partying? I cannot rule that out because of my job. It is important to do some appearances due to my celebrity status but apart from that, I think I am an introvert. When was the last time you went to a club? About three months ago. It was reported that you recently lost your father. How have you been faring? I have yet to recover from the death of my father. His death is still very fresh and we recently held the 41 days prayer. How close were you to your father? We were not as close as I am with my mother but I loved him and had my time with my father. Some people are of the opinion that being an actor is not lucrative and most jobs are done based on favours. How true is that? To be honest, it is true to some extent. If actors are being paid the way they should be, maybe some people who have ventured into movie production would not have made that business move. Everything boils down to the issue of piracy. But we see your face in a lot of movies. Does it mean they hardly pay you as well? Gone are the days when I would go to a movie location and take care of myself with my money. I cannot remember the last time I went to a movie location and I was not well paid. I do not feature in any kind of movie and I ensure I maintain that standard. I do not believe that I have to feature in every movie, I have nothing to prove. You have a degree in food science and technology. Is it right to assume that you love cooking? The course is not really about cooking but I actually love to cook. But with your busy schedule, do you have time to visit the kitchen? I always find time to cook. Asides from my bedroom, my kitchen is another place I do not joke with. What is your favourite meal? I am a typical African woman, so I am a lover of any African delicacy. It was reported that since you started your career in 2002; you are worth about $700,000. How true is that? I am worth enough to live a very comfortable life. Do you have a daughter? I do not have a daughter. I have a little sister that a lot of people assume is my daughter. She is my mother’s last child. Why have you not cleared the air before now? I did not have any reason to do so. Everyone has their private life and I am not one that loves sharing hers. Anyone that assumes I have a child, I just keep mum till I am ready to talk about it. Are you pressured by your mother to get married? I get such talks from my mother but I also understand that she is doing that like any other parent would but as a person, you should not feel pressured to make certain decisions because everything would still be under control. Based on some of your posts on social media, some people feel you have something against marriage… I cannot crucify people for their opinion. I feel that being a single lady is not a disease and you should not be cast out because some people feel that because you attain some certain age, you ought to be married. We have a lot of people who got married at an early stage and the marriage broke up, there are some that wish that their marriages are over. For me, I always say that it is not a do or die affair. GIST FROM WAKABOBO.COM A Nigerian woman has shared her scary experience with LASTMA officers in Lagos. According to the woman, the officers on Wednesday morning, stopped her car at Palmgrove area of Lagos. She said she had diverted into the BRT lane in a bid to get into the service lane as she was pressed. Read her account below: At about 07:00hrs this morning (27/06/2018) enroute work I diverted in to the BRT lane at Palmgrove in a bid to get into the service lane as I had an overwhelming urge to use the toilet and suddenly a patrol truck with 6 LASTMA officials and 2 police officers apprehended me asking me to disembark for breaking a traffic Law, I explained my predicament to them and asked them to understand it was exceptional circumstances because I was distressed. They insisted and I insisted on speaking through the window which was wound down slightly (I have heard people’s experience of them putting in their hands and unlocking the door) While one Police officer was speaking to me through the passengers side window, the LASTMA officer unlocked my car with a master (universal) key and the police officer jumped into the car, put my gear in park and switched off the ignition and took my keys (at no point in time had anyone asked me to follow them to their office at this point). I tried to grab my keys from him and he yelled at his colleagues to take pictures that I was assaulting him. I sat back in my car ignored them and waited to see what their next play will be. The team lead (I guess) came back with a phone that I should speak to their boss (all this while other road users were driving freely in the BRT lane I have video evidences) and they made no move to apprehend anyone else. The purported boss yelled obscenities at me over the phone when I pointed out that other road users were freely using the same BRT lane. He went further to say they would tow my vehicle at which point I told him that I was happy to pay any fine or receive a ticket but I would want my keys so I would be on my way and he hung up. About 10 minutes later one of the officials asked me to come and speak to the team lead, I stepped out of my car and immediately a police officer and a LASTMA official rushed into my car and tried to drive off. At that point I started screaming, they insisted I enter the backseat and they will drive me. Fed up with their antics I told them I would take it up with them if they attempted to move my car at that point they abandoned the vehicle and drove off with my keys which includes my house keys, gate keys and bedroom keys. I had to call my husband who brought me the spare key and that was how I was able to get to work today. As I type I have no idea where my car keys are and this is really dangerous. It’s a criminal act to unlock my car with a master key and then proceed to seize my car and house keys Where is the professionalism the agency purports? She also revealed that she spoke with the General Manager of LASTMA on Wednesday and he has promised to take up the issue. My aunt, who observed the way my daughter was walking, woke me up. When I saw her as well, I was forced to check her. I pulled down her pants and saw sperms on her body. A 32 year old man from Connecticut has reportedly drowned during his 32nd birthday celebration over the weekend. Michelet Mongerard, of Haiti, was found unconscious at the bottom of a pool during his 32nd birthday party at a home on Greenfield Road in Glenbrook on Sunday. Michelet Mongerard was pulled from the pool by his cousin just after 7pm, Sgt Paul Guzda told the Stamford Advocate. Mongerard’s cousin was able to resuscitate him by performing CPR then medics rushed him to the Stamford Hospital. Authorities said it appeared that he was on the road to recovery, but he tragically died at the hospital a short time later. The police at the moment believe Michelet Mongerard death was accidental because the 20 to 30 family and friends at the party said he could swim and that he didn’t appear to be intoxicated. Police said that no one saw him go into the swimming pool. But authorities said they discovered a “minor” abrasion on his head. It is still unclear if Mongerard slipped and hit his head before falling into the swimming pool, and authorities are still investigating. At the moment, officials said the cause of death will likely be ruled as an accidental drowning.
