BusinessRe: GTB Freezes My Account For False Loan by walesmann: 7:52pm On Apr 04, 2013
madejibo: I proceeded to see her and she explained that in May 2007 the teller in Ikoyi branch mistakenly posted into my account the sum of 102,000 naira instead of 10,200 naira and I withdrew via ATM the sum of 60,000 before they could find out the mistake. Let me state categorically here I can't even remember paying any money into my account that period.
@maj007 , Please note the poster's words quoted above. He did not make any statement at all on whether he actually withdrew the N60,000 or not. The only claim he made was to request that the Bank present to him any evidence of his attempt to deposit N10,200 , since he could not remember. How convenient !!!
BusinessRe: GTB Freezes My Account For False Loan by walesmann: 6:50pm On Apr 04, 2013
Going through these posts has been very interesting. GTBank is a Bank dear to my heart , so it will be very difficult for me to believe the complaint in its entirety.

A careful analysis of the post would reveal some very salient facts:

(1) The poster to me seems to know more than he has revealed here
(2) This looks like a case of wrong credit into the poster's account which he must have spent in error
(3) GTBank staff should not have gotten a customer this aggrieved for him to have resorted to this medium. This is looking like a case of "you didnt treat me right , I will show you" kind of action by the customer
(4) The topic is misleading. The question to the poster is "Did you at any time withdraw more than you have saved in your account". A review of your statements would reveal this.
(5) There was an erroneous credit of N102,000 into poster's GTBank account , and he spent N60,000 from that erroneously. The most honorable thing to do is to pay back.

I have a strange feeling this whole post is about getting back. It has become a Nigerian thing to believe that an erroneous posting by a Bank is like having a share of the national cake. Most Nigerians do not even know this is a criminal act. GTBank is an ethical Bank. My experience with them over the last 15 years has shown that they are not even too proud to apologise when they make a mistake.

Let us not kill one of the greatest things that is happening to Nigeria at the moment. GTBank is one corporate entity in Nigeria that is doing things rightly without resorting to any form of criminality , and should be encouraged. Our emotions aside , the poster should attempt to level with us here and tell us the real truth about how the "loan" came about rather than resorting to a PHD approach.
BusinessRe: Customers Can Only Transfer Funds From Their Current Accounts in GTBank? by walesmann: 7:36pm On Jul 31, 2012
Mr. TopeTope,

You are obviously a fraudster. Just look at the time you posted this issue (5:11am).

If you are not , you can put your account number here and I will forward to my freinds at GTB for them to confirm the status of your account.

This would be pasted here for all to see.

Instead of engaging your bank to find out what could have made them do this , you are busy badmouthing them online.

Fellow Nigerians , let us promote and celebrate all that is good within us , rather than trying to pull dow. This Bank is good and from my experiences with them , they also listen
PoliticsLastma Extortion Scheme: How It Works by walesmann(op): 7:52am On Aug 13, 2010
This was forwarded by a friend : Have you ever been a victim of “One Way” due to the absence or inconspicuous nature of LASTMA’s “One Way” sign? This has become an increasingly recurrent phenomenon that it leaves one to believe that it is intentional for signs to be absent or inconspicuous.

Early this morning during the rains ( Saturday Aug 7, 2010), I was apprehended by LASTMA Officials (Officers Adepoju and Mabije – Staff number 162021) for making an “illegal left turn” and taking “One Way” at the Sanusi Fafunwa and Karimu Ikotun Junction. I pleaded my innocence because there was no road sign at the junction (picture attached).

On very close inspection with one of the LASTMA officials, I was shown a sign concealed by an Almond fruit tree. I asked the LASTMA official if that sign was visible to road users and he retorted “it is not my fault if the sign is not visible because it is not my duty to cut down trees…” Attached again is the picture of the intersection so that you can see how unjust these LASTMA officials are and how they disparage the good works of the Lagos State Governor.

As I expected, the LASTMA official requested a bribe to let me off – but I rejected the offer because I considered it extortion.

As a result of my refusal to pay the bribe, the official has impounded my car, issued me a ticket for a fine of N50,000 and mandates that I go through psychiatric evaluation before I retrieve my car.

My car is now parked at Adeola Odeku – Victoria Island at “Owners risk” with no evidence of security coverage by LASTMA, I have been unjustly issued a ticket of N50,000 and asked to receive psychiatric evaluation for driving through a “One Way” route which has a sign hidden behind a tree. Obviously, several other persons will be victims of this circumstance.

It is about time that we put an end to this form of extortion by LASTMA. I therefore plead for the Governor’s intervention as this level of injustice undermines the government’s stance on eliminating corruption and injustice in the state.

Additional Details:

Car Reg: JU 735 EKY ( Honda Accord 2003 Model)

Booking Location: Adeola Odeku

Apprehending officer: Adepoju/Mabije including a Mr. Ganiyu.

Staff Number: 162021

I have reported this incident to B. Oreagba ( LASTMA Alpha Commander) for V/I and was contacted by one of the operations officer yesterday. However since then, no further contact have been made. As you know, a delay in obtaining justice would discourage people in similar circumstances from resisting extortion.

I will also like you to conduct an independent assessment of my assertion concerning the traffic signage at the Karimu Ikotun/Sanusi Fanfunwa intersection.

Progress Update: My lawyers and I were at LASTMA's Adeola Odeku office and the operations officials admitted that the ticket was undeserved. However they claimed they had no authroity to cancel the ticket and referred me to the office of the Special Assistant (SA) of the CEO LASTMA .

Our visit to the SA's office yeilded no results as the officers also claimed that they are unable to cancel the ricket for audit reasons without the permission of the CEO LASTMA or Commissioner for Transport.

It will interest you to know that 3 days after the incident, nothing has been done to make the traffic sign visible - Therefore, it is basically an entrapment.

At this moment, I am torn between chasing this case, putting it in the public domain and paying the fine. My current instinct is to put this case in the public domain and possibly bring it to the attention of the governor.

I am not sure how it will finally play out, but it will fundamentally change my perception of governance, good or bad. Join me in pushing this case into the public domain - I guess it may be impractical to seek redress through the judicial system

I apologize for taking your time.

Rgds,

Let the poster go to http://www.gtbank.com

On the homepage , there is a complaints section there . You can make your complaint known to them officially through that medium. They responded to me on time when I had issue with my ATM card and complained to them through that .

"Walesman: You sound like an employee of GTbank, are you one "

I do not think we should diminish the argument here with what you are insinuating. I am not a staff of GTBank, but self-employed. I would have similar views if any other organisation is being maligned publicly without facts.

You may refer to my previous posts on NL to verify the fact that I have remained consistent in this . Being a businessman with interests in some Banks , I have relationships with some of the key staffs who could help verify claims being made against their organisations.

My approach has always been to take the issues to those key staff and come back to NL with my findings. On Shawonlese's claim , he needs to supply more info for one to even begin with.

Objectivity should be our watchword.
BusinessRe: Entrepreneurs, Beware Of Gtbank And Your Proposals! by walesmann: 4:09pm On May 18, 2009
But then , maybe the poster needs to supply us with more information , so that we could make better and informed judgements. I respect GTBank and its people a lot , that it will take a whole lot of convincing for me to believe such story about them . Unless backed up with convincing facts. I bank with them , and can also verify this story from my contacts within the Bank if I have some more information from Shawonlese
BusinessRe: Entrepreneurs, Beware Of Gtbank And Your Proposals! by walesmann: 12:13pm On May 18, 2009
Hi Shawonlese,

I guess you have picked on the wrong Bank. GTBank is one of the few Banks in Nigeria that practice real banking. Those guys are pure professionals and are ethical in their dealings.

I do not think Nairaland is set up for running organisations down. I want to suggest you take this hatchet job elsewhere. We ain't buying.
BusinessRe: GTBank Deducts N100 For Not Withdrawing From ATM by walesmann: 5:52pm On Apr 30, 2009
I contacted my contacts at GTBank before commenting on this thread. I understand the Bank charges N100 for withdrawals of amounts less than N40K made in their Banking halls. If the customer uses the ATM for his withdrawals , he is not charged a dime. However , if he chooses to do the same in the Banking hall , he will be charged. If the amount withdrawn in the Banking hall is more than N40k , say N50K , customer would not be charged anything.

They also made me realise that the charge would not be applied in situations of ATM downtime , excessive queue at the ATM or where there are some other peculiar conditions (e.g. if the amount customer needs would not be possible with the denominations available through the ATM).

I bank with many Banks (dont ask me for names please) and I know that this situation applies across most of them. I think what our Banks need at this moment is encouragement rather than a further heat-up of the system.
BusinessRe: My Friend At GTBank Took 80,000 Naira From My Account by walesmann: 3:23pm On Apr 16, 2009
This thread is definitely NOT true. It was just a story that was made up to generate some fun-filled debate. This would not happen in any Bank talk less GTBank.

Is the so-called friend a teller , that he/she has a function to just enter into people's accounts at will ?

Science/TechnologyRe: How Can ATM Theft Be Averted? by walesmann: 4:57pm On Mar 25, 2009
The scammer in the picture must be staying around Ajah , along Lekki-Epe expressway.

From information I got from my friend that sent the mail to me, he said all the ATM frauds took place very late in the Night (between 10pm and 11pm) at Ikota shopping complex, beside VGC , and at weekends too . So , it is likely he lives around that area.

I believe we can collectively do something. I know so many people who have lost money to these people. There is need to get a scapegoat . Hopefully , he may lead us to the root.

They did not report the guy to the police , because previous cases that were reported to the Police turned into endless circuses .

I have chosen to bring the guy's case here because I believe we can collectively do something. I know so many people who have lost money to these people. There is need to get a scapegoat . Hopefully , he may lead us to the root.

I got the e-mail below from a friend this afternoon. I believe that apprehending this guy would go a long way in stopping these ATM frauds.

"The guy in the attached pictures is a specialist in ATM fraud . We need to smoke him out.

Do you know him ? Is he your customer ?

You may also circulate this among your friends in other Banks"
