I applied in the UK and I thought it was even be faster doing it there but I was wrong. Hope they don't deny one based on the fact that the Conference I wanted to go for has come and gone?

What date did you apply? We applied March 19th.

March 24th, Online. The Conference I planned using it for was held last weekend.
