PoliticsFG Monitors Nigerians’ Facebook, Twitter Accounts by wapSmart(op): 7:13am On Aug 16, 2015
The Federal Government has been monitoring the social media accounts of Nigerians who are suspected of having links with various terrorist groups, including Boko Haram and the Islamic State of Syria and Iraq, findings bySUNDAY PUNCHhave shown.

Our correspondent learnt that through covert operations, which have been going on for a while, security agencies hack into the Facebook and Twitter accounts of those they are monitoring.
The move, it was learnt, was meant to frustrate terrorist attacks on the country.

The project, which is costing the country millions of dollars, is being managed by the Office of the National Security Adviser.
Multiple sources, who spoke to our correspondent on condition of anonymity because they were not authorised to inform the press about the security checks, stated that the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan approved the request by security agencies to spy on targeted sections of the population, mainly religious extremists and radicalised individuals.

It was gathered that the project is being coordinated by some foreign firms, including an Israeli firm, Elbit System.

Our correspondent learnt that the local espionage involves hacking of phones, email accounts, social media accounts and bugging of telephone conversations of persons of interest.

A source said, “The surveillance system is not being used to target everyone, as people may want to believe. It is only deployed to get intelligence on specific targets because it would be hard and difficult to use such system to spy on all Nigerians; the amount of data would be too huge and staggering for the assessors to sort and manage.

“Basically, the system is used to hack into emails and phones of targets, and the targets are those who are suspected of having ties with terrorists, whether Boko Haram, ISIS or any other criminal element.”

It was also learnt that the system had greatly assisted security agencies to nip in the bud and also frustrate many terror plots and attacks across the country.
The security agencies had been using electronic trackers, which they were used to track and apprehend kidnappers.

But it was learnt that the electronic surveillance system is more effective and has better capacities to hack emails, passwords and social media accounts used by terrorists to recruit members.

The Force Public Relations Officer, Emmanuel Ojukwu, confirmed that security agencies were using a sophisticated surveillance system as part of measures to combat crime and terrorism in the country.

He said, “It is not a new technology. Everywhere in the world, it is used, including drones and other sophisticated equipment. Nigeria is part of the international community; we have our surveillance system, which shows that Nigeria is developing.”
Ojukwu said the security agencies respect the rights of Nigerians and were not using the system to hack the phones and computers of innocent Nigerians.

The Department of State Services could not be reached for information on their use of the surveillance system.

The PDP did not lose the elections because of the APC. They lost because the President Jonathan failed to live up to expectations and a lot of people were not willing to give him four more years.

In other words, APC did not win, President Jonathan was voted out
I think what Bama TUk was saying is that if PDP had choosen the person to represent them through election and not selection things might not have been the way it is because people were tired and have grow weary of Jonathan faux pax

“I salute Muhammadu Buhari because he has integrity. He believes in discipline, he believes in fighting corruption and believes in good governance because, the only way we can go forward and be respected in the comity of nations is by coming together and carrying our people along,”
--Bamanga Tukur

Well, PDP is a thing of the past and one must not dwell on it too much, the more we dwell on it, the more confuse one will be. It had be better they get their act right as a party or else KOWA go overtake them.
PoliticsWhy PDP Was Defeated In 2015 – Bamanga Tukur by wapSmart(op):
Former National Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, has said that the All Progressive Congress ( APC) won the 2015 election because they conducted an election not selection and allowed internal democracy, not imposition to prevail.

Speaking as the guest of the week on a Kaduna based radio station programme monitored by our correspondent, Bamanga said reconciliation, reformation and rebuilding based on equity and justice are the fundamentals for a true democratic state.

He noted that the APC, by making all the elements relevant and allowing the people to choose their leaders through elections, allow the democratic system to prevail for the interest of all.

“The management of the PDP should allow for free and fair elections, internal democracy, equity and justice because when these prevail, people follow.
“Jonathan did not insist I leave the party, there were people in the PDP who felt I should not practice what I preached. Because discipline is very important, following the laws you established, is very important, why you do not want to follow the laws you established and you don’t change them, you have problem?

“I was accused of being a virus in the PDP, and I did not deny it, I told them I am a virus for good governance, virus for internal democracy, virus for equity and justice, I hope that virus will continue.

“President Jonathan could not protect me due to the powers of the governors, the governors are very powerful and therefore, if you do not do what they want, you are done away with and I believe nothing can be done to them.

“I salute Muhammadu Buhari because he has integrity. He believes in discipline, he believes in fighting corruption and believes in good governance because, the only way we can go forward and be respected in the comity of nations is by coming together and carrying our people along,” he said.

Speaking on insecurity in the North-East, he said, “in 2013, when Boko Haram element started to show its face, I said to Nigerians, if the country is attacked, all Nigerians must come together and attack the elements and indicated there principles including, strengthening both military and para-military defences.”

I pray those that will come here to shout and scream should receive wisdom, knowledge and understanding from above to decipher the news.
PoliticsCorruption War: EFCC Doesn’t Invite People Without Cause – Lamorde by wapSmart(op):
Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ibrahim Lamorde, has said that the Commission does not just invite people to answer questions bordering on corruption without any justification.

Lamorde made this known in Abuja on Thursday while speaking with members of the ‘Coalition of Civil Society groups in Nigeria, CCOSGIN.

The chairman explain that contrary to the allegation that the commission was not doing enough, the truth was that it would not go after any suspect without sufficient evidence of wrongdoing.

“We cannot just bring in people to EFCC without any reason. That will not be fair,” Lamorde said.
The chairman said while he welcomed constructive criticism on the way forward for the establishment, the commission also abhorred paid criticism meant to distract the operations of the agency.

He said the Commission’s doors were open to meaningful contributions from individuals and organisations with good intentions in the efforts to stamp out economic and financial crimes from the Nigerian society.

Lamorde said that the success so far recorded by the commission in the war against corruption would not have been possible without the active support of the civil society groups.

He said: It is gratifying to know that there are still some genuine civil society groups that appreciate what we are doing. We also appreciate your coming to identify with us and encourage us in our fight against corruption.

“As proof that we are partners in progress in the war against corruption, you will recall that the EFCC signed a Memorandum of Understanding, MoU, with some civil society groups in 2014 at the EFCC Academy. It is an on-going process and is still active; so, I invite members of your group that are yet to key into it, to join.”

The National Chairman of CCOSGIN, Comrade Iso Bassey Edim, said the anti-corruption war by the EFCC was in tandem with President Muhammad Buhari’s zero tolerance to corruption.

Still dont know why PDP are already trembling, Still dont know why their hard and tall baby maker have become soft and short, instead of throwing their weight behind Baba they have decided to do everything possible to make the anti-corruption crusade a fruitless one.

They had all the whole 16years to kill corruption but they decide to cherish and nurture it. Now that the table had turn and someone is hell bent on mowing corruption, they are busy running around like an headless chicken.

How will they even fight corruption during their 16years of maladministration when their middle name is corruption.

PDP should know that Nigerians are more interested in knowing those who have run the country ragged.
PoliticsPDP Trying To Cage Buhari In His Anti-corruption War – Osinbajo by wapSmart(op):
Nigeria’s Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo has accused the main opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party of trying to shout down President Muhammudu Buhari’s anti-corruption crusade.

Osinbajo made the accusation while speaking with reporters at Ilara-Mokin in Ifedore Local Government Area of Ondo State at a burial ceremony.

The Vice-President was welcomed at the event by a large crowd of residents of Ilara-Mokin.

He said the anti-corruption crusade was not designed to witch-hunt any politician as being rumoured by the PDP members.
According to him, the list of the people that had been arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) showed that the anti corrpution war was not one-sided.

PoliticsRe: Fashola Defends N78m Website, Slams CACOL by wapSmart(op):
Seriously this is totally wrong, 12m or 78m why spending such an enormous amount on a website that will become less useful since you are not at the helm.

It is a better to call a spade a spade, one should not try to house Fashola on this because to me it is off-target because the question that is begging for an answer is that will the website still be useful since the webiste was created to help him in running the affair of Lagos effectively and smoothly while he was still in office, now that he is no more in office, what will be the usefulness and function of the site.

Aha! Before it skip my mind did Fashola create the website just to present an adduce if he is been ask to present to the table his achievement as a governor of Lagos state.

On name smearing and character assasination, Fashola should know that this will surely happen, people will surely comes out of their cave to criticise one and soil someone names. So he needs not to worry and as he has said "allegations of wrongdoing are not resolved without evidence, neither are they resolved in press conferences.”

On Political appointment.
Fashola have said it all, after 12 years of service there is no need in running from pillar to post in the quest to get a political appointment but he should know that he is one of the best governor we have around and with what he has done in Lagos there is a 80percent chance he will be picked to walk and work with Sai Baba and if not the earth will not cease to exist.

Fashola is truly a good leader because the dexterity flows in him but on this website of a thing, i thinks he is OFF-TARGET.
PoliticsFashola Defends N78m Website, Slams CACOL by wapSmart(op): 2:39am On Aug 14, 2015
A former Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, has defended the decision of his government to spend N78.3m on the upgrade of his website, www.tundefashola.com.

Fashola had come under fire after the Lagos State Public Procurement Agency posted a report on its website stating that N78.3m was paid to a firm, Info Access Plus Limited, for the upgrade of his website through the Office of the Chief of Staff to the Governor.

However, Fashola, in a five-page letter he personally signed, admitted that the money was actually spent on his website.
He, however, said the breakdown of the transaction was left out and that that was the cause of the confusion.

He said, “As far as the website contract is concerned, yes there was a contract. It went through procurement and was approved by the government agency authorised to do so. One of the services was an upgrade quoted for N12.5m but awarded for N12m.

“There were other services that were new like a hand over countdown clock, mobile Apps for Google, for IOS and Ipad, for Microsoft and for Research in Motion (Blackberry), which the existing website did not have, as well as the annual maintenance cost for managing the website.

“It was for all these services that the contract was issued for N78m, which the Lagos State Procurement Agency gave no objection based on the advice of the Ministry of Science and Technology, who are the government’s adviser on ICT matters.

“In publishing this contract award which was the government tradition under my watch, the procurement agency’s website summarised it as ‘upgrade’ only without detailing the other services and this has been distorted by the agents of hate and their suspected smoking gun.”

He, however, said the contract was published in a way as to misinform members of the public.
“It is regrettable that a summary of the contract has been deliberately distorted to misinform the public,” he said.

He said the website helped him to do his job effectively when he was governor. He said till date there have been over 27 million hits on the site while thousands of videos and pictures had been uploaded on the site.

The former governor hinted of an alleged plot by some to smear his name. He said for instance, there were allegations of having extra-marital affairs and having children outside marriage.

He said the allegations were baseless. He said the only children he had outside marriage were the two children he adopted after their parents were killed in the 2012 Dana plane crash.

The Senior Advocate of Nigeria, who is rumoured to be in a cold war with the National Leader of the All progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, said he had no hand in the June 9 National Assembly elections in which the leadership of the APC lost out.

He said he was outside the country until the morning of the election.
“As far as my alleged involvement in the National Assembly elections are concerned, they remain only the products of imagination of those who made the allegations. I was out of the country at the material time and returned only in the early hours of that morning to Abuja and from there proceeded to Lagos,” he said.

Fashola, while reacting to recent bashings by the Peoples Democratic Party over the over N419bn debt he left behind, noted that all the loans taken by the state were approved by the House of Assembly.

He said the debts were being serviced, adding that the debt profile of the state had not affected it negatively.
Fashola also berated human rights group, Coalition Against Corrupt Leaders, for dragging him to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and for calling on President Muhammadu Buhari not to give him a political appointment.

He said he did not care if he was given a political appointment or not as he had served Lagos State for over 12 years
He told the people of Lagos to expect more allegations soon as he had been told that several people had been given money to assassinate his character.

He said, “I expect that there may be more distorted allegations without evidence for reasons that remain in the realm of speculation because I have been informed reliably that large amounts of money are being paid to some of these agents to bear false witness.

“I cannot conclude without responding to the crusade of CACOL and their ilk seeking my prosecution on allegations that have no proof and writing pre-emptive letters to the Presidency.
“In case they are unaware, I am not looking for a job. I expect them to know that allegations of wrongdoing are not resolved without evidence, neither are they resolved in press conferences.”
While taking an indirect swipe at those leaking information about his deeds in office, the former governor said,

“For those who still wish to remain in the mud, they should look in the mirror. For those who wish to throw mud at me, they should look at their own hands.

PoliticsBode George Contributed To Our Defeat –PDP Boss by wapSmart(op): 2:19am On Aug 14, 2015
The acting Chairman of the Lagos State Peoples Democratic Party, Kamaldeen Olorunoje, has accused a former National Deputy Chairman of the party, Chief Bode George, of contributing to the party’s defeat in in the state.

Olorunoje, who is the acting chairman of the party after the suspension of the substantive chairman, Capt. Tunji Shelle (retd.), said this during a press conference in Lagos on Thursday.

He said George imposed several candidates on the party which ultimately affected the party’s chances.

Olorunoje said the six House of Representatives seats and eight House of Assembly seats which the party won in the last election were due to the efforts of the candidates and a few party leaders that put some mechanisms in place.

While reacting to the defection of several Lagos PDP chieftains to the All Progressives Congress, Olorunoje said, “Chief Babatunde Olorogun-Etti left, Dr. Yomi Finnih left, Chief Olorunfunmi Basorun. All these people left because of one person, Chief Bode George.

“We all come from Lagos Island. Olorogun-Etti is from Ward E3 while George is from E2. If as a leader you are losing people in your local government, it calls for questioning and Olorogun-Etti was in Chief George’s caucus.
“For Lagos State, his leadership has not yielded any fruit. I respect him a lot but a lot needs to be said.

He must be able to embrace democracy. His attitude is due to his military training. For example, he imposes candidates on the party.

“Most of our candidates that won elections were supposed to have been replaced. Had they been replaced, we wouldn’t have won anything. Chief George even told one of them to run for councillorship. That person is a member of the House of Representatives today.”

On the legality of the suspension of Shelle, Olorunoje said the National Working Committee would have the last say. He, however, added that the members of the State Executive Committee had the power to suspend him.

He said the South-West chapter of the party had set up a panel to look into the issue.
Olorunoje said he was not representing a faction of the party but the entire organ of the party since members of the SWC had given him unanimous support.

He, therefore, urged members of the public not to regard Shelle as the chairman of the party.
