Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ibrahim Lamorde, has thrown a strong challenge to Civil Society Organizations, CSOs, in the country to look inwards and fully support the anti-graft agency in its concerted efforts aimed at ridding the country of economic and financial crimes. The comments of the agency’s boss, which were made at a Share Fair workshop, tagged “Fulfilling its mandate: Government Leading Anti-Corruption Efforts”, organized by the CLEEN Foundation, held on August 11, 2015 at the auditorium of the Bolton White Hotel, in Abuja, comes on the heels of an orchestrated “protest” staged at the premises of the EFCC Abuja office, recently, which was carried out by a rented crowd claiming to be representatives of CSOs in the country, under the aegis of Coalition of Civil Liberties and Equity. Represented by the agency’s Director of Operations, Olaolu Adegbite, he noted that it was essential for the society at large, including the CSOs, to see themselves as partners with the EFCC, in the war on corruption. “We believe in engaging with the civil society groups, as well as non-governmental organizations, but the events in question, where a group of protesters caused a melodrama at the premises of the agency, accusing the agency of prosecuting corrupt individuals in the country, was most shocking,” he said. He added that: “It has therefore got to a point, where we now have to sieve those who are partners in progress, from those who though parade themselves as civil society organizations, are actually tools in the hands of some corrupt individuals in the country that we are investigating and prosecuting.” Lamorde noted that the commission receives tones of petitions every year, “but we go through every one of them, and those that are based on frivolous accusations, we throw away, but those which after investigation, we come up with facts, we pursue them.” The Share Fair workshop, which was organized in partnership with the Campaign for Good Governance, Partners for Democratic Change, Institute for War and Peace Reporting, and Budgit, provided yet another platform to further highlight the ills of corruption on the ordinary citizen, as well as fashion out ways of ensuring victory over the scourge. Abdul Rahman Mansaray, a senior prosecutor with Sierra Leone’s Anti-Corruption Commission, shed light on efforts the commission had made in curbing corruption in the country. Describing corruption as a monster that deprives people of better life, he said, “It is essential to have the political will to fight corruption, as this is the starting point, and luckily for us in Sierra Leone, there is that will to prosecute the corruption war.” He further noted that President Ernest Bai Koroma gave the commission the much needed independence, because, “we prosecute cases without having to wait to receive a go-ahead from the Attorney General of the Federation.” Adedayo Kayode, head of the Investigative unit of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, ICPC, who represented the commission’s boss, Ekpo Nta, noted that prevention was very essential in the corruption war. “Prevention is essential, but it must be balanced with prosecution,” he said. Joe Abah, director general, Bureau of Public Service Reforms, stressed the importance of the Freedom of Information Act, urging Nigerians to utilize it as part of their contributions in checking corruption in the society. “The most important tool in the corruption war is perhaps the Freedom of Information Act, and in my view, it is the most powerful with the exception of the Nigerian Constitution, which all Nigerians must take advantage of,” he said. http://dailypost.ng/2015/08/11/report-those-behind-corruption-lamorde-charges-civil-societies/ Lalasticlala |
I am loving and enjoying these spates of attacks from the PDP and the counters from the ruling APC. The attacks and counters has rise to a crescendo in the last few weeks. Sir Metuh should please stop at where he said that Buhari has not form his cabinet. So you want Bab to drop the same ball that Jonathan drop. What is the essence of rushing to form a cabinet that at the end will soil one name as it is currently happening to our former president. We dont want Baba to surround himself with people that did not have the people at heart hence it is consequential that Baba shouldnt make the same mistake because at the end the buck will be pass to Buhari not Metuh. |
Sanchez01:Bro. Sanchez abegii leave matter joor who will go to a president who didnt know that corruption was so much under him.. I hope Jonathan didnt utter such but if it is veracious that he did, then he just shoot himself more in the leg |
Wait.. I said wait.. You mean 13 cars for one person or 13 cars for OSOPADEC. This is why the country is still moving round at the same spot when a single person will own 13cars. Thank God and Sai Baba for the new era that is evolving where all and sundry will be accountable for whatever he/she has. Goodbye to the era of "chop and walk freely" welcome to the new era of "chop and be accountable for what you chop" but Baba you na never declare yah asset publicly oh..... |
It is too dangerous to be with a man who in is ignoble quest is to keep diverting money and the good things that comes with life to himself alone. I am not trying to rubish the fact that Obasanjo is one of the political juggernaut we have in the country but he tends to always want to be in control of everything which is not possible. The last time i check every leaders that the country keep recycling do have good intention when they are still aiming to get the sweet fruit but the moment they get it they loose sight of those that help in getting that sweet fruit. That said, all this people having a tete-a-tete with Obasanjo telling us to be like him have they ever have a meeting with him to discuss extensively on how the hoi-polloi will be elevated. The last time i check they are only having a clandestine meeting with him for their political interest. By the way i will bury the hatchet with him on been party-less because Baba is getting older he needs not to keep hoping from one "owanbe" to another but on him been a statesman, i think been a local-governmentsman will be better...... |
"Jonathan surrounded himself with ‘unsavoury characters." That is exactly the point. I will keep saying it Jonathan was not the bad eggs, the bad eggs were those that he picked to work and walk with him. Jonathan surrounded himself with thieves cum Barawo who are ready to do anything to run the country ragged in their quest to fill their already filled pot-belly which is why PMB needs to avoid such mistake and which is why i am throwing my weight behind PMB on the delay in appointing those that will walk and work with him. "The hands willl never be blame if it is been deep inside a fire but it is the head that will get the blame" |
Thats the beautiful nonsense of Nigeria politics kicking each other and stabbing eache other... |
Freemanan:It is consequential |
I confabulate, brainstorm with one of my PaPI in my hood about this lingering african mentality of which the elite, the affluent people dont want people to grow to their level because they believe they had loose their respect if such comes to fruition and he said here in africa the affluent believe it is not safe for everyone to be equal. Since Baba is admonishing the elite to wake up and do the needful, i hope they did. |
Here in Nigeria watch your back because you wont know when the next kick will land on your back.. Go prosper the sack accountant General.. |
kingsolex:wicked...... |
Borderless:ki pa eleyi wi jade ni igboro enu.. Abegii jor na beg i beg you dont quote me again |
Prince081:Oh boy ooooo Whats the difference between "motion and movement" because i cant really decipher that statement. Keep shooting yourself |
Love him or Hate him he is the current oga-boss calling the shot, he is the one occupying the front seat so you need not bellyache when he makes a move. I really like Baba stance on mowing corruption to some level in this country, he is ever ready to do that and one can feel, touch the seal in him. A new page have been open, this is a new era where all and sundry will be accountable for what is been trusted into their hands. This is not the era of "chop and walk freely", this is the era of "chop and be accountable for what you chop". Kudos to GEJ, you still someone that i respect so much because been a leader over two people is never an easy task not to talk of over 1million people. I still think the people that walk and work with you soil your administration but the buck will not be pass to them but to you because you are the head. |
August 10, 2015: Olalekan Adetayo President Muhammadu Buhari will order an investigation into contracts involving the procurement of weapons for the military under the Goodluck Jonathan administration. The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, disclosed this while featuring on a Channels Television programme, Politics Today, on Sunday evening. Shehu spoke a few days after the immediate past Chief of Defence Staff, Alex Badeh, said he led a military that was ill-equipped. A former National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki (retd.), had also said while some weapons and equipment procured by the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan were used to fight insurgency during the latter days of his tenure, some others were still being awaited. The presidential spokesman said Buhari was interested in taking stock of every naira that left the national treasury and for what purpose. He said Nigerians were aware that books were already being checked and the exercise was not limited to the oil sector. He said, “The President is interested in every penny that leaves the Nigeria’s treasury. “As you are aware, records are being checked right now, not only in the oil sector, but also in the various departments of g overnment. “So, Mr. President is really interested in what has happened to the equipment that have supposedly been bought and supplied, some of which might be there on the ground or might not be. “Only a thorough audit will actually reveal this. The disclosure has been made about substandard (equipment) in the Nigeria’s fight against Boko Haram.” Shehu reiterated Buhari’s desire to urgently end the activities of the Boko Haram sect. While saying that normalcy is gradually being restored, the presidential spokesman noted that there is currently no territory in the control of Boko Haram. “The insurgents have been degraded. They are in disarray without a central command and coordination,” he declared. Shehu said the President would not send troops to the warfront without ensuring that they are properly equipped and taken care of. “Just on Friday, at the National Defence College, Mr. President was committing himself to the fact that our military will be well taken care of in terms of their welfare, in terms of their equipment and in terms of the motivation they need to confront these insurgents. “We are already beginning to see the fruits of this because as we speak right now, Boko Haram is in disarray. “And what we are witnessing now; that is, occasional bombings and suicide attacks, characterise only one thing globally. And that is that, the dying days of the insurgency. It’s just a matter of time, we’ll get there,” he said. http://www.punchng.com/news/buhari-to-probe-arms-purchase-under-jonathan/ |
"He also stated that corruption has no political party, no religion and no ethnic group and as such there would no partisanship in the fight against the scourge." This should calm some people nerve and i do hope it will make them married their upper lip with their lower lip |
None of the above.. |
Starting the new week with such a gargatuan news.. We will surely get to our Shangri-La GEJ - You the boss Sai Baba - You the "Oga-Boss" |

If it is a common man that steal just one orange the whole world will know about it. Na so our media go dey run around like an headless chicken publishing such news but when some "agbaya" steal billions wuna no go know. Abeg wuna no wan cover cover oh.. Reveal those that have drag this country into the murky water. |

henrysam:Ok.. Are you satisfy now. |
There is a lot of things that needs to be brushed aside in this country. Accusing each other, passing the buck on each other is not the way forward. The country is already on a precipice and instead of our leaders who have coax the youth to find a lasting solution to the various lingering problem the country is battling with they are busy accusing each other. Lai M. should also know that both party have been a terrible liar and they have been feeding us with lies since only God knows.. CCCXXIII = 323 |
Mr. Adeniran said that he has written a series of petitions to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to probe the various projects of the Fashola government but the EFFC have since been ignoring such. If this is veracious then the EFFC needs to be ask some questions also on why they are ignoring the petition. On Impeccable record. Mr. Adeniran should not forget that this is Nigeria where it is laborius to find someone without fault, without error and to find someone who is perfect. Mr. Adeniran also should check himself if he is faultless. On Baba Digging Deep. I dont think he will want to engage in such for the whole four years will be clouded. |
Everyday you wake up to see on a newspaper, probing issue. Different thieves with different strategy. You dont even need a gun again to rub the country if you are at the helm, just your brain. Just like MTN, our leaders who has succeded in coaxing the youth that we are the leaders of tommorow have been Milking The Nation. They are all Monsters Terrorising Nigeria (MTN) |
This issue of probing Taye and Kehinde, Chidinma and Chidubem, Hafusa and Haruna is becoming Ad-nauseam. Baba in as much as i will keep backing you up concerning the cancer that has eaten deep into the heart of the country there is need be to dwell much on the present to make the future lucid instead of dwelling on the past that looks clouded. |
Beremx:BeremX is spot on.. Barcanista one needs not to judge now, this is Nigeria where the unexpected happen.... |
