It depends on the job terms, which unfortunately, are never spelt out. In most Nigerian homes, live-in-maids are basically slaves who handle more than 90% of domestic chores. Interestingly, when it comes to preparing meals, either the maid is sidelined or she is asked to prepare her "eba", whilst the rest of the families eat "balanced diets".

At the end of the month, she gets a paltry 20-30K with the excuse that she is being fed and accomodated. This is seemingly wrong, but pathetically, most of these maids have no choice and will accept anything thrown at them. In my opinion, any houseowner that hands anything less than 50K to his/her maid is wicked and exploitative. I'd pay more, but don't subscribe to the idea of having live-in-maids.
