Abuja—Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has stated that the power to decide who will occupy the office of President of Nigeria in 2027 ultimately rests with the Nigerian people.


Atiku’s statement came in response to a comment made by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, who claimed that President Bola Tinubu’s second term in office for 2027 was already guaranteed.


Akume had argued that for equity and fairness, it was only right for Tinubu, a southerner, to complete a second term, as the north had already had its fair share of leadership.

Atiku’s Special Adviser (Media), Paul Ibe, responded to Akume’s remarks through a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Monday, asking, “Where, then, does true equity and fairness reside?”

Ibe highlighted that by 2027, the South would have enjoyed 17 years of leadership—eight years under Olusegun Obasanjo, five years under Goodluck Jonathan, and four years under Tinubu—while the North would have experienced only 11 years, with Umaru Yar’Adua serving three years and Muhammadu Buhari serving eight years. This, Ibe argued, creates a six-year disparity between the North and South, affecting the balance of power.

He concluded by emphasizing that the power to elect or remove a government lies firmly with the Nigerian people, who will decide whether the current administration deserves another term. “But has the Tinubu government demonstrated that it deserves to be re-elected? The answer, alas, is as clear as the heavens themselves—God forbid!”

Nigerians should understand that the case of Dele Farotimi against Aare Afe Babalola, CON,OFR, SAN is one of the most significant cases to come up in Nigeria in this decade. It is a case where a man is persecuted with the instrument of state power for saying the truth against a powerful person in Nigeria and against the Nigerian judiciary. In my work as the head of Due Process Advocates (DPA) Foundation, I have evidence to substantiate the contentious assertions made by Farotimi.


OUR CONCERNS:
1. There has a pending lawsuit on the issue of child custody and child support between the same parties and in respect of the same children, which was filed on the 13th of September, 2023.

2. On 30th November, 2023, the Court issued an order for substituted service of process on Mr. Ikpeze, setting the next hearing date to be 20th December, 2023.
3. On the 20th December, 2023, Mr. Ikpeze failed to show up in court because he had a plan. His plan was to use your influence and the police to intervene on the matter and to usurp the powers of the court.

4. In our conversation with Mr. Ikpeze, he bragged in writing that he would go to court the next time, now that the police have given him the children.

5. Based on the update we received this evening, it appears that you have decided all the issues pending before the courts, leaving Mrs. Ikpeze no option than to bend over and take whatever is given to her.

In conclusion, sir, while we will give you the benefit of doubts and assume that you were misled by the stories told by Mr. Ikpeze, who has displayed extraordinary tendency toward falsehood and manipulation, we are constrained to urge you to be fair and to allow the judicial process to play out without any interference from your powerful position. Police Operatives from the Anambra State Police Command have arrested one Friday Emenike Alias Ekpo 'M' 42 years from Izzi Local Government Area (LGA) of Ebonyi State, who allegedly lends guns/weapons to criminals for their illegal operations, especially within Awka and its environs.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, Anambra State Police Command, Awka,
SP Tochukwu Ikenga, it would be recalled that on 7th December 2024, Police Operatives attached to the Anti-Cultism Squad Enugu Ukwu acting on credible information raided an identified black spot in Umunaga Village, Awka South LGA, arrested one Okechukwu Chinwuko ‘M’ 27 years from Umunaga Village and Ezenwa Chinedu ‘M’ 22 years from Umuneri Village and recovered one Pump action gun, three live cartridges, Cutlass, Criminal Charms, and substances suspected to be hard drugs.

'The Operatives also rescued two female victims who the suspects have allegedly forcibly abused sexually.

'During further interrogations, the suspects confessed that they rent Guns/weapons from one Ekpo. This prompted the Police Operatives to act swiftly and arrested Ekpo.

'The Case will be charged to Court on the conclusion of the investigations, please,' he stated .
