Here are a few comments I got off the page

Well that article was interesting to be sure, though as many pointed out, it was a small sample size. I am loathe to say it but based on my experience, I can say that I am considered a very attractive woman judging by extensive male response over the years, and I have been consistently treated pretty shabbily by mainly women, and rarely, if ever, by a man. Let me clarify that I have a successful career and am no ones fool and do have many friendships with women for decades. It doesn't matter how intelligent, personable, kind, hardworking, focused or fair, or even how new a work relationship is, I have always had to deal with petty bitchy jealous women. The idea that women won't interview other women who are attractive sounds pretty accurate to me.

Seems the only time hotness and intellegence aren't mutually exclusive is on TV/in movies. In real life they usually are. Would you trust a CEO who constantly flips her hair, shows excessive cleavage and wears 4" heels? Only in movies! In real life the hot ones are better off met in bars, not at the work place. That way you don't have to be all awkward when running into them the day after. There's that old saying, "Don't sh*t where you eat".
Ouch!

Saw this interesting piece and I thot to share. I know the practice of attaching pictures to a CV is alien in these parts but I'm curious as to the disposition of our local HR staff. Does a guys chances of scaling an interview improve simply cos he's a "hunk" and should an attractive girl be afraid (as in VERY AFRAID) simply cos she's prettier than most? Do you female interviewers sometimes feel threatened by the looks of a potential employee? (honesty would be appreciated). Do looks matter at all or is it always about what's upstairs - Assuming it's not a banks marketing job sha, uhm well.
CareerAttractiveness & Job-hunting: What Has Looks Got To Do With It? by wesley80(op): 7:47am On Apr 08, 2013
AT WORK, as in life, attractive women get a lot of the breaks. Studies have shown that they are more likely to be promoted than their plain-Jane colleagues. Because people tend to project positive traits onto them, such as sensitivity and poise, they may also be at an advantage in job interviews. The only downside to hotness is having to fend off ghastly male colleagues; or so many people think. But research by two Israelis suggests otherwise. Bradley Ruffle at Ben-Gurion University and Ze'ev Shtudiner at Ariel University Centre looked at what happens when job hunters include photos with their curricula vitae, as is the norm in much of Europe and Asia. The pair sent fictional applications to over 2,500 real-life vacancies. For each job, they sent two very similar résumés, one with a photo, one without. Subjects had previously been graded for their attractiveness.

For men, the results were as expected. Hunks were more likely to be called for an interview if they included a photo. Ugly men were better off not including one. However, for women this was reversed. Attractive females were less likely to be offered an interview if they included a mugshot. When applying directly to a company (rather than through an agency) an attractive woman would need to send out 11 CVs on average before getting an interview; an equally qualified plain one just seven. At first, Mr Ruffle considered what he calls the “dumb-blonde hypothesis”—that people assume beautiful women to be stupid. However, the photos had also been rated on how intelligent people thought each subject looked; there was no correlation between perceived intellect and pulchritude. So the cause of the discrimination must lie elsewhere. Human resources departments tend to be staffed mostly by women. Indeed, in the Israeli study, 93% of those tasked with selecting whom to invite for an interview were female. The researchers' unavoidable—and unpalatable— conclusion is that old-fashioned jealousy led the women to discriminate against pretty candidates. So should attractive women simply attach photos that make them look dowdy? No. Better, says Mr Ruffle, to discourage the practice of including a photo altogether. Companies might even consider the anonymous model used in the Belgian public sector, where CVs do not even include the candidate's name.

There's a growing feeling among Lagosians that Fashola is waging a war against the poor in Lagos and that growing feeling cuts across all ethnicities. It is becoming cliched that Fashola pulls down poor peoples homes to replace them with 10m naira P/A mansions. The resentment with Fashola and the ACN is growing.
The only people happy with Fasola and his godfather are the aesthetic-loving-V.I-living minority Lagosians that are glad to see Makoko gone without giving a hoot about the whereabout of its inhabitants. Most of the other 95% Lagosians who sweat to eke out a living have been affected by these insane demolitions either directly through friends and family members or indirectly as their situation potentially mirrors their predicament - no poor man is safe!
Fashola is destroying, Nigerians are watching!

More;
“In fact, the incident had caused loss of affection and many families have been thrown into state of disarray. I couldn’t see my family until two days after the incident. Since this ugly scenario, I have been sleeping inside the car without bathing or brushing my teeth”. Explaining the controversy surrounding the land, he said, “I bought my land from an indigenous land owner (omo onile) with back-up documents and lawyer’s agreement at that time. And while I was about building my house, I did all the necessary processes including land survey which was taken to Epe Local Planning Authority for charting. The officer- in-charge charted it and I was told that the land was free from government acquisition. “Then, I continued the processes of getting building approval and on that basis, I paid N52,000. And I was given approval by Lagos State Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development. “I submitted my building approval which was recommended and it was approved. An officer from Lagos State Government, Alausa (Enforcement Unit) came twice to ascertain my compliance on the approved building plan. The unit was led by one Mr. Lawal who I learnt had been transferred to Agege division now. And the same process was taken by others who had their documents too. “But, the tune of the music changed last year when officials of Ministry of Physical Planning came to the village, threatening that the land had been acquired by government. But, instead of listening to us, they told us to go to Alausa to register our complaints and also make necessary inquiries which we did. “I went to the office of the Survey-Auditor General whom I believed had the final authority on land issue in Lagos State. He advised all of us to apply for land information which would make us know the status of the land and we did. “On August 8, 2012, I paid the statutory amount required. My survey was recorded at the Surveyor-General’s office. The information I gathered revealed that the land was free from government’s acquisition and it is meant for residential purposes. “We wrote to the Ministry of Justice, State House of Assembly, and Governor of Lagos State who minuted on it and forwarded same to the Attorney-General of the State. Then, I wrote the approved plan number on my building. On January 31,2013, one, Bode Agoro, Director of Land regularisation visited the village again but this time around, he claimed the Odo-Iragunshin land belongs to government and that we should report to Alausa with all the necessary documents. Some representatives from the community including Alhaja Bature, Tunde Awonaike and I were there. Then, Mr. Bode Agoro advised us to obtain some other title documents including Certificate of Occupancy, C of O, Governor’s consent, adding that, we will be alerted whenever State government want to come to the place.

It was a day of agony, pain and frustration for residents of Odo-Iragunshin, a suburb of Epe area of Lagos state, when the officials of Lagos State Government paid an unannounced visit to the place and demolished not less than 200 houses. The demolition exercise which rendered over 150 people including men, pregnant women and school children homeless was carried out by the officials of the Lagos State Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development, precisely on March 5, 2013. Saturday Vanguard gathered that an aged woman met her untimely death while Mrs. Adeniyi Ishola, lost her six-month-old pregnancy as a result of the exercise. Worst still, many families are yet to recover from the shock. Till date, the family of Ishola is yet to come to terms with the fact that their wife’s six months pregnancy is terminated in the process. Adeniyi, was said to have lost her pregnancy on the spot while watching helplessly as their house was being crushed to rubble by the State Government’s bulldozers. Further investigations by Saturday Vanguard also revealed that the yet to be identified old woman died three days after her house was demolished. In the same vein, more than 50 school children have been thrown out of school as a result of the demolition exercise that took place in the area. The demolition exercise at Epe, Odo-Iragunshin was carried out despite the ‘Stay Action’ pronouncement by the State House of Assembly pending investigation into the matter before it. Saturday Vanguard spoke to many of the residents and their responses were revealing. Adebowale Omoseike who was living in the village since 2008 lamented that the incident had since left those affected helpless, adding that he only escaped insanity through the intervention of God. According to him, “I was told that one of the affected landlords gave up the ghost three days after the incident while a woman lost her six-month pregnancy on the spot. All of us have been thrown into some kind of confusion and psychological trauma, not to mention the -several children and students who are also contending with the situation. “It was a devastating situation to hear that the same houses our children ate in before they left for schools had been pulled down by the State government bulldozers. They couldn’t give us affordable accommodation, yet they are demolishing the houses we built through pains and sweat.

bodejohn: There was once a terrible flood in a country far away...
A man who managed to get to the top of his roof sat and pray for several hours till he was swept away by the gushing torrents.
On reaching the pearly gates, he was furious with the holy one, why didn't you come down to help me, he asked the one seated on the thrown. I am surprised to see you here was the response of the holy one.
I sent you two boats and an helicopter to carry you to safety as soon as you closed your eyes to pray yet you refused to be rescued.

Pray till his kingdom come and remain lazy in your wayward ways...expect no miracle....dats all.
The first rule in prayer is to pray like EVERYTHING depends on God and play your part like EVERYTHING depends on you. Jonathan has done his bit and is still doing so within the limits of the Presidential powers bestowed on him so what's wrong with him also seeking the face of God? Why are you uncomfortable with a President that acnowledges the role of a Supreme Being in the affairs of a State, are you a demon?
PoliticsRe: Evil-Forces Working To Derail Nigeria - Jonathan by wesley80(m): 8:39am On Apr 07, 2013
I agree. God's face must be sought if Nigeria's problems especially the Boko Haram issue must be resolved. There's a national precedence, It happened in Warri, the peace being enjoyed in Warri today was brought about by "Men on their knees". Prayers were made without ceasing city wide in organized monthly and weekly fasting and prayer sessions organized by CAN and PFN and when it looked like Warri was irredemable, there was a breakthrough. The JTF and your local intelligence can only do so much but the real causes behind the crisis are "Spiritual" and can only be battled likewise.
I dont expect anyone to agree, but that's your problem. Jonathan is wise to seek the face of God even when he know's ignoramuses will think he's being stupid and that's exactly why he's going to succeed and be a succesful President mistakes or no mistakes - I have no single doubt! The good book says:

But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise, and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty
1 Corinth 1:27

Jonathan is wise and is going to succed because he's gonna have the backing of the Oga at the top! You heard it here first.
