The National Association of Government Freight Forwarders, NAGAFF, on Sunday decried the ‘high’ tariff imposed on importers by the Nigeria Customs Service. The Chairman of NAGAFF, Segun Musa, spoke with aviation correspondents at the Murtala Muhammed Airport in Lagos. Mr. Musa appealed to the Federal Government to review the policy, saying it was having an adverse effect on Nigerians involved in importation business. According to him, the policy has forced many importers out of business while others have relocated out of the country in the last few months. He called on the federal government to engage the private sector and stakeholders in policy formulation in order to get things right. Mr. Musa said that the demise of some major industries in the country was caused by insecurity and lack of infrastructure and not due to importation. He also advised the government to properly monitor the activities of customs officials toward blocking revenue leakages. “The revenue leakage is more than the revenue collected in Nigeria, the tariff on imports are so high and that has taken a lot of businesses out Nigeria,” he said. Saudi Arabia cut ties with Iran, the Kingdom’s foreign minister announced on Sunday, deciding "enough is enough" with the Islamic Republic, according to a source with knowledge of the Saudi government's thinking. "Enough is enough," the source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told Reuters. "Again and again Tehran has thumbed their nose at the West. They continue to sponsor terrorism and launch ballistic missiles and no one is doing anything about it. The Saudis really don't care if they anger the White House." The move comes amid escalating tensions between the countries following Saudi Arabia’s execution of a prominent Shiite cleric on Saturday. A group of Iranians attacked the Saudi Embassy with Molotov cocktails and stones earlier Sunday following the death of Sheikh Nimir al-Nimir, and the Saudis have indicated they don't believe the Iranian government tried to stop the protesters. Iran Deputy Foreign Minister Amir-Abdollahian suggested the Saudi government was using the severing of diplomatic ties as a way to distract from al-Nimir's death, FARS news agency reported. Saudi Arabia has ordered its personnel back from Iran and asked the Iranian diplomatic mission and other entities to depart the Kingdom within 48 hours, Reuters reported. Saudi’s Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir announced the move during an address aired by Al Arabiya News Channel. He said Iran wouldn't be allowed to undermine Saudi Arabia's security. The Obama administration urged "diplomatic engagement" between the countries. "We believe that diplomatic engagement and direct conversations remain essential in working through differences and we will continue to urge leaders across the region to take affirmative steps to calm tensions," U.S. State Department Spokesperson John Kirby said in a statement. Al-Nimr, who was convicted of terrorism charges but denied ever advocating violence, was executed Saturday along with 46 others, including three other Shiite dissidents and a number of Al Qaeda militants. Al-Namir was a key leader in the Arab Spring protests in Saudi Arabia before his arrest in 2012. His execution drew condemnation from Shiites across the region as well as several countries outside Iran. Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei condemned the execution Sunday in a statement on his website, saying al-Nimr "neither invited people to take up arms nor hatched covert plots. The only thing he did was public criticism." Iran’s Revolutionary Guard also lashed out at Saudi Arabia Sunday. They compared the executions to attacks carried out by ISIS. The Guard said in a statement that Saudi Arabia’s “medieval act of savagery” in putting al-Nimir death will lead to the “downfall” of the monarchy. The Guard promised “harsh revenge” against the Saudi royals for the execution, according to Reuters. The cleric's execution could also complicate Saudi Arabia's relationship with the Shiite-led government in Iraq. The Saudi Embassy in Baghdad reopened for the first time in nearly 25 years on Friday. On Saturday there were public calls for Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi to shut the embassy down again. Sunni Saudi Arabia and Shiite Iran are already locked in a bitter rivalry, and support opposite sides in the wars in Syria and Yemen. Iran accuses Saudi Arabia of supporting "terrorism" in part because it backs Syrian rebel groups, while Riyadh points to Iran's support for the Lebanese Hezbollah and other Shiite militant groups in the region. http://www.weyab.com/2016/01/saudi-arabia-draws-line-with-iran.html |

PRESIDENTIAL MEDIA CHAT Incoherent, inaudible, unprepared, uninformed, disappointing and completely uninspiring, considering that our President is not made for this time, he can be forgiven for his inability to inspire with his first ever media chat as President. I am only disappointed because it took my dear President seven good months to prepare for this drab outing. He exposed himself as someone who is not in grasp of contemporary governance and worst, as a President who does not understand the workings of his own country. He is just there, watching like all of us. How do you explain it away that our President does not know what devaluation of the Naira really implies. In response to the question on the chances of devaluing the Naira, my President gave a response that qualifies as one of the most embarrassing responses from any President. He told the panel that he does not know which currency to devalue the Naira against. Is it the Dollar, Yuan or Pounds? This response kills every doubt that our own country is heading for the gutters, if nothing urgent is done. Also on the very important question of whether he has received any intelligence as regards the status of the Chibok Girls, my President told the world that he will be relying on information from a 'credible' Boko Haram leadership to know if these Chibok girls are still alive or not. How can a country as big as Nigeria depend on terrorists for simple intelligence gathering? It is unfortunate that as soft as these questions are, our President is obviously uncomfortable with them and cannot wait for the camera to be off, for him to query Femi Adesina for putting him through this punishment. |
no obedience to rule of law...... i thing no need blaming those that sees nigeria as lawless country. even if someone kills buhari today and the law states release him , thats that period! go to court and seek for redress......... and other things |
BUHARI said in the Presidential Media Chat that Nnamdi Kanu have committed very serious offences so he should not be allowed to go on bail because he would run to London. Secondly, he said that Nnamdi Kanu has a British passport and Nigerian passport but entered Nigeria without using any. Lastly, and very laughable, that Kanu came in with some sophisticated gadgets which he used to broadcast. MR PRESIDENT, WHAT IS SOPHISTICATED ABOUT LAPTOP, MICROPHONE, AND SMARTPHONES THAT NNAMDI USES TO BROADCAST? ARE YOU NOW REVEALING TO US THAT YOU ARE NOT A 21TH CENTURY PRESIDENT? IS IT NOT PREJUDICIAL FOR YOU TO DECLARE KANU QUILTY ON NATIONAL TELEVISION? ARE YOU NOW THE JUDGE AND THE PROSECUTOR? lastly , is it your presidential right to reject and skew court order? if so then what type of government ? weyab |
soon apc will say it happened at somalia. rip d deads |
