I think we need to define this thing called love, what will or can you do for love I'm a married man with 2 kids, I notice however that the love I have for my wife seems different to love I had for her while we were dating. It seems I have become complacent or the love has change, because when we were dating it seemed like I could do just about anything for her. I have changed over the years - I seem to be bit more like my Dad with each passing year, my wife’s the same too she seems to be more like her mum. What I can tell from my experiences is that life is not static and we change as individuals, our beliefs and attitudes as well. Marrying someone from a different religious background is very dangerous if done because of love, as love can and probably will fade. Religion if practised requires commitment and seeks to build a person spiritually. So a marriage with 2 different religions is a marriage going in two different directions - ultimately you will grow apart. But hey same religion marriages break down and grow apart every so often so what else is new. |
Thank you all for your input and bits of advice. There seems to be many ways one can go with Linux - I doubt I will be to keep up!!! The idea of studying puts me off. Theres no way I can give this more than a week at most ![]() I may have to just watch from the sidelines, dabble here and there when I can. cheers |
Hello All, I've noticed that several users of this forum are "pro" Linux. I have never used Linux , and have never really had the need to. From reading some post to this forum however, I can see that I need to be more opened minded to other or alternative OS's - after all Bill Gates is not my Dad...I work in IT and have to provide MS solutions everyday. In my office I run SBS2003, and XP workstations. Being a MS partner I get the over £2000 worth of software at £200 which works fine for me. I was reading a post on this forum indicating why Linux was doing so well in Nigeria - and issues with licensing. These issues are things we face over here also, and I am forever advising some of my small business clients on there licensing problems. Anyway I was looking at both Red hat, and SUSE which were the only names I could remember from back in the day as being good versions of Linux. But these both required payment and licenses. So my questions for the forum, is which versions of Linux do you use, and is it free? Where is a good place to start, I need to experiment with the desktop / and server side if possible. Thanks in advance |
Timmy nice job...... I like you effort if your not very busy maybe you can assist me with some of my sites, I have neither the time or patience, infact I lack the skills it would seem. Nice job |
littlesaint, There is a concensus that you tell you husband. And I agree. Being toasted I guess can be considred flattering especially if you like the toaster - in your case however you are a married woman so that type of flattery has to its place. I suggest as others that you let your husband know asap. You will need his support should your toaster become vindictive if you take our advise and give him that "9inch nail / red light". I'm a married man and would like my wife to inform me of such developments at her place of work, maybe then I wont take her granted as I do these days ![]() |
I agree with Hidden Hunter, msconfig does give you access to autostart entries as listed in the registry or under other users profiles. Hijackthis, and Autoruns allows access to this information as well as other useful bits like browser settings example. |
Joftech HijackThis is a great utility that I carry as part of my arsenal of tools also, and agreed it is great for viewing and stopping processes, but I think autoruns by sysinternals is even better i suggest you download a copy for you collection. I have never used Prcview so will have a look at it. The only issue I have with these types of applications is that in resloving a virus problem you may stop the process but not the root cause which these applications can not identify. Some viruses I have dealt with render the PC useless, such that you cant connect to the web to update Antivirus signatures, and you can't run any executables either and so you stuck. I have bad instances where the virus was remove or resurfaced hours later - due to the root cause not being eliminated completely. From your post it appears you have the time to deal with these types of problems. I run an IT services business and our customers pay us by the hour to reslove their IT woes. So if I can remove a virus in say 1 -2 hrs or less then I stand a good chance of repeat business. So speed is very important there is no time to play with these problems as the clock is ticking. ![]() |
joftech:joftechalso try running your anti-virus in safemode, because alot of process's don't start in safe modeam not sure that will fix the problem, if the virus process is not running how is the antivirus going to find and remove the virus. It can only remove files that are signature to the virus. But i think it make more sense to run the antivirus in normal mode. I have to agree with Hidden Hunter - it is better to run Antivirus scans in safe mode where applicable. There are agreed steps one can take to ensure that any infected PC can be cleaned with the least about of effort, and running scans in safe mode is one of them. The reason for this is to stop the code in question form auto starting as windows starts. These apps tend to run processes that can be very difficult to end as they just reproduce themselves. Normally the applications come onto a PC disguised as something else then run on a PC as processes that only a keen eye can spot. So when removing these programs one needs to ensure that you remove both the installed process, and the initial disguised downloaded payload. In my experience the best way to deal with this type of problem is to first of all research the virus and obtain its name then download if possible a good cleaning tool written specifically for it e,g stinger. Or download a good antivirus software (I use trend micro, and AVG) and it associated updates and install them all. Then disable if applicable system restore, and delete any temporary files or cached internet explorer files. Next boot into safe mode and run a scan of your PC. When this process does not work then you know you’re in for a bit of a battle. I personally am always prepared for these types of battle and have bootable CD’s that contains the tools I need to clean an infected PC without having to install them on the infected PC itself. Here’s some info from Trend micro on how to remove the VBS REDLOF virus mentioned in this tread. MANUAL REMOVAL INSTRUCTIONS Removing Autostart Entries from the Registry Removing autostart entries from registry prevents the malware from executing during startup. 1. Open Registry Editor. Click Start>Run, type REGEDIT then press Enter. 2. In the left panel, double-click the following: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ CurrentVersion\Run 3. In the right panel, locate and delete the entry: Kernel32="%System%\Kernel.dll" or Kernel32=”%System%\Kernel32.dll” *Where %System% refers to the System folder, which is usually C:\Windows\System (Windows 9x and ME), or C:\WINNT\System32 (Windows NT and 2000), and C:\Windows\System32 (Windows XP). 4. Close the Registry Editor. Addressing Registry Shell Spawning Registry shell spawning executes the malware when a user tries to run a DLL file. The following procedures should restore the registry to its original state: 1. Open Registry Editor. Click Start>Run, type REGEDIT.EXE then press Enter. 2. In the left panel, double-click the following: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT>dllfile>shell>open 3. Still in the left panel, select the “open folder” key by right-clicking its folder icon. Select the Delete command from the pop-up menu. 4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 for the following registry key folders: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\dllfile\ScriptEngine HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\dllfile\shellex HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\dllfile\ScriptHostEncode 5. Close the Registry Editor. Restoring Deleted System file To enable your system to function properly, restore the file %System%\Kernel32.dll using your original Windows installation CD or from a reliable backup source. Applying Patches The malware runs on infected systems with unpatched VM ActiveX component vulnerability. Visit the Microsoft Security Bulletin (MS00-075) for patch links and more information on this vulnerability. Well I hope this helps ![]() |
Well well what can I say; just about everyone here seems to be into Linux. Unfortunatley I have never had a Linux system, and the way things are going will probably never have one. I did have a firewall / proxy once running Smoothwall, and then IPCOp a few years ago, this was before I bought my ADSL wireless router. Being in the IT trade now for over 10 years now it wasnt very difficult to get it up and running, however I think it would still pose a few problems for your average bloke. In my view I would have put my hand up to Windows, cos it keeps me in the employed (due to it unpredictable nature) . Having said that I find Linux to "Geeky" and not universal to many flavours!!!. I probably would have been more intrested in the past, when I was quite technical, but the simple truth is that my customers want their IT "short and simple". To many, Windows is a very straight foreward and internationally universal OS, on which they can run their familar applications - beit at home, work, school, or friends PC.I guess in Linux's defence it can be very stable, and I also believe that in some industries an OS like that is essential - so when it comes to web servers or firewalls I can understand. These are specialist PC serving specific functions which can also be considered as back office functions. But when we talk about OS for desktops and Laptops it makes no sense to me to use an OS other windows. I can understand that everyones preference is different and some have the skill set to manipluate Linux to work in the favour. However your average user is not so literate and propbably does not have the time to find out how to run his favorite Windows App on a Linux OS system. In my opinon Linux is for those who have an issue with Microsoft's monoply and software licencing policies. Linux users tend to be those that are very IT literate and have time to investigate the web and make things work. With Microsoft this has already been done for you, so all us have to do is use the system. Cheers |
I was talking with a friend the other day as he and I often share thoughts on various Xbox games. He was telling me about an Xbox games arcade he was setting up in Dolphin. The whole idea being a location where gamers can meet and challenge each other or take part in team games like Ghost Recon, or Counter Strike. It sounded like fun as some games can be quite addictive when you play against others instead of the computer. ![]() |
