Lol. Divey, he addressed his comment as "Hi folks", so any "folk" could respond.. Anyway, I 'preciate your humility, its one of the things I like about you. *smile*

@anakadrian, one of the purposes of the Challenge was to attract new talent to Nl, ppl like you...Since Challengers are not posting directly onto the site (thanks to you too), non nlers may decide to send entries too. Attaching monikers to the entry is just a way of ensuring that they are bonafide nlers...
So, its alright to be indifferent about it, as long as you do it..*wink* Bear in mind that the first stage of the moderations is to ensure adherence to rules..

@theorbiters, Im sorry but I cant adjust the word count. Its a flash fiction, not an essay. Its a way of separating the boys from the men. In other contests, its pegged at 250, sometimes 300. Sincerely, you owe it to my "humble sense of logic" that its 400.. Lol.

Happy writing!

Literature / Re: The White Mosquito Flash Fiction Challenge by whitemosquito(f): 11:41pm On Dec 28, 2014
'Due to popular demand', submission guidelines have been modified viz:
Entries shall now be sent to white.mosquito@yahoo.com, and must carry title and monicker. Said monickers will be verified by me personally, so if you are not a nairalander, sorry, you still have to register.

Entries MUST be in Word format ONLY.

Deadlines still apply. After the expiration of the deadline, entries will NOT be honored.

Once the deadline is up, entries bar their monickers will then be posted on this thread and the thread locked.
This is simply to avoid stealing or 'borrowing' people's concepts, plots et al.
Happy writing,
White mosquito.

Very allowed. Encouraged sef.

Ok. Caracta's solved your debacle..

Entries should be sent to white.mosquito@yahoo.com, with monickers and titles attached.
E.g,
Title: The promise of Tomorrow by White mosquito
Please Word docs only o. If possible type onto yahoomail straight. Before some special children of God start sending jpeg formats.
At the expiration of the deadline, I will post them on the Challenge thread WITHOUT monickers attached. The moderations will continue from there.
Happy now?

A whole you, anakadrian!! Writer extraordinaire?? Lol.

Ive already done as much publicity as I can. The thread has made frontpage. Has been posted on friendly sites and blogs. Has been shared amongst friends and followers, and their friends and followers.

I canna come and go and kill myself. Lol. If at the expiration of the deadline, only two writers have posted, in agreement with my judges, those two entries become default winners.
On the other hand, nairaland permits you to continue to modify posts till the thread is locked..As far as Im concerned, you really have nothing to lose.

Lol. @Edozy, First of all, the fact that you're here shows that the "dangling carrots" worked...
Two, that's a wrong metaphoric usage. Don't let me get started with schooling you...Finally, "carrots" have a high nutritional value and are good for your health. Go figure.

@ Bhenedikt, that's the spirit I'm looking for...

@StealthIdeals, true to your moniker youre thinking combat and war tactics, Lol, but why would you want to wait for others before you put your best foot forward? Break the jinx, submit first.
You're the first to raise objections over the time frame, though.
What do others have to say?

Divepen I advise you watch your tone when dealing with people. If you're one of the organisers of this competition, have it in mind that It's a N10000 carrot you're dangling in front of people. Most of us are trying to do it just for fun and u'll never get to see the stuff people are made of if u chase them off with a tone like that. If you had the patience to put this competition in place, have the patience to answer people's questions. If u're not one of the organisers. Abeg, no be u I ask question. Please kindly butt out
Mister, I dont see anything wrong with Divepen's tone..Anyone with the right information or understanding can respond to questions. The truth of the matter is that if you indeed had the "patience" to read the guidelines, you wont be asking them..

I shall be waiting to see the "stuff you're made off."
Cheers.

I tink wat he is saying is dat wen writers post demseleves, dey can keep going back 2 modify dia entries even after dey av submitted dia entries till d thread is locked.
Oh. Ok. That's up to them.
The moderations start AFTER the deadline is up and the thread's been locked. So, nothing still spoil.
Cheers.

safarigirl:
Whitemosquito....must it depict Nigerian festivals? And can you elaborate on what you mean by 'culture' (modern/traditional)?

And just 400 words?
Festivals are just a part of our culture. It was merely an example I used. CULTURE is the key word. I can think of so many other things that depict culture- dressing, language, food, etc.
I dont know what you mean by modern culture, but I think its safe to say I mean the Traditional African Culture. Just infuse a bit of culture in your work.

400 words is even too much for me sef. Its flash fiction, not an essay, or short story. The ability for you to capture the most imagery and tell a story with economy is part of what you're being judged on.

Happy writing dearie.

hifaif:
@Whitemosquito, what if the judges end up blacklisting writers that once had issues with them? Things like this can happen.
True, that was a concern and that is PRECISELY why I have set up the moderations thus so, installing a few checkmates:

1; All moderation conclusions will be submitted to me personally NOT posted here. I will do the posting here.

2; Although the judges are paired in teams in order to reduce workload, they are to work INDEPENDENTLY of each other. They are all both aware and have acquiesed to this.

3; I will thus be overseeing the entire process, and reserve the veto to abrogate any of their decisions.

4; Most important of all, I know the CHARACTER of my judges, and Im fully prepared to trust their decisions. Integrity was one of my overriding concerns, and most of them are personal friends of mine(quick #famzing, Lol) and with them I am assured of this.

hifaif:
I would like that you consider that stories are not judged based on the popularity of the monikers here on Nairaland but on the quality of the stories.
That, Sir is the absolute POINT of the whole Challenge.

hifaif:
If possible, ensure that the stories are judged anonymously.
Even this would not ensure 'more' fairness. Think about it. Are the writers to be anonymous? Impossible, when their entries are to be submitted here. Are the judges to be anonymous? Doesnt influence the outcome of the results either. Whoever wishes to be partial will still do so.
This plan however, is workable and fraught with the least errors.

This is the test run of this project, subsequently I intend to get published and acclaimed writers from around the world to moderate... Still, Sir, put your mind at ease and channel your hearty imagination into writing a worthy piece. I'll be looking forward to reading your entry.

Whitemosquito, please don't mind my masquadality. I have not written a flash fiction before, so I would like to know if The Title will be counted as part of the 400words
The Grand Masquada himself!
No, dearie, it wouldn't count. Forgot to add that jere.
As soon as the thread is reopened, Ill make a few changes...

Happy writing!
