Religion / Re: Do Catholics Believe in Being Born Again? by whocares: 10:05am On Nov 10, 2005
I have read and read and tried not to post, but i just couldn't resist.

I am a born and baptised catholic.
I believe in Jesus and accept him as my lord and saviour. (this did not happen when i went to a 'church' and a 'pastor', in a Gucci suit, pushed my head for me to fall down and speak jibberish...i meant tongues tongue)
I made a choice as an adult to do this and i try to live my life that way...it is not always easy believe me.

What gets me most is peoples obsession with questioning the practices of the catholic church.
I choose to honour Mary for she was the mother of Jesus on earth. If i feel she can interceed for me, why would that bother you?

As for the water into wine incident, don't get me started. they did not ask Mary to interceed...Puleeze!
I don't read the lines of the bible and interprete them literally and i was sure most people didn't, but i see i was wrong.

Celibacy is the rule for catholic clergy, you are told this before you join...still we go on about these people being human. Of course they are human and it takes many many years to become a full fledged priest. Allowing those that can't hack it, to leave...which is their decision in communion with their God.

You are not a catholic, which is fine. Why don't you focus on saving your own soul.
What makes you so sure that the way you practice your religion or faith is the right way? Nothing, that is why it is called faith.
We have heard so many things about gospels discarded from the bible, Da Vinci code etc that have made many people question their faith.
Some have strayed and still many choose to beleive.
CHOICE/Free Will...our great gift from GOD

I accept that no one religion, method of worship or faith is the right one.
I have chosen to live my life as a catholic, christian and hopefully a good human being.
I have chosen to honour Mary
I have chosen to pray the Rosary...pray with beads like my Muslim brethrens
I have chosen to participate in the Eucharistic feast
I have chosen to honour the saints
I have chosen to observe the convenants

I am not sure what makes me less of a born again than any other.

The most wicked and devious people i have ever met have been so called 'born agains'. Those who carry their 'good works' on their sleeve and perpertuate evil behind closed doors.
We have more churches in Nigeria in one city than some entire country's, yet we are sooo corrupt.
BTW corruption is rooted in wickedness, because it takes a wicked man to take food from the hungry to line his own pockets. Then run around making astronomical donations to churches.

@Fabian
I don't want to undermine Tu-faces' ability as an artiste, but what sucks for me is when He can't carry a conversation in good English. The guy is deficient in that

You have reminded me of my recent 2Face fear...
What if he wins the MTV award?
What will he say?
He can't possibly speak pigin there, so what will he do?

Religion / Re: Voodoo: Do You Believe In It? by whocares: 3:42pm On Oct 27, 2005
I believe there is Good and evil; and evil manifests itself in various forms, at home and abroad.

I don't know, for sure, what is out there so i try to avoid all wierdish things/people ... as prevention is better that cure.
Music/Radio / Re: 2Face vs Styl-Plus by whocares: 12:44pm On Oct 27, 2005
We need to compare like for like (solo vs. solo and group vs. group)

In terms of popularity, i think Kennis music is doing more to publicise the 2face image than Stylplus's record label (whoever they are), that is why he seems to be more famous/rich/popular

As a nigerian i am extremely proud of both, they have their unique qualities
Religion / Re: Is it wrong for a couple to live together before marriage? by whocares: 12:21pm On Oct 26, 2005
It is your choice, just use your instinct.

By the way, where is it written that "it is wrong period"?
Romance / Re: My Girlfriend Wants A Blood Covenant by whocares: 12:15pm On Oct 26, 2005
What i understand is that the 'blood convenant' thingy is a dark art - juju, evil, witchcraft related ritual.

If your babe is asking you to do that then she obviously doesn't believe in God/Allah (or is she one of those that go to church and still visit witch doctors?)

If you are a Christian/Muslim or religious in any way...you better check that girl. Me i will run just because she asked, forget about considering it.

Travel / Re: Thinking of Going Back to Nigeria For a Job Offer (after 10 years) by whocares: 5:11pm On Oct 24, 2005
I know some people who have relocated and loved it; while others have gone back or are planning to.

I think 1500euros ~ N3.2Mill (Total) is crap, unless you are still a fresh graduate, then it is not bad. (Be careful, in Nigeria there is Basic pay and then there is total renumeration...find out which one they are talking about).
Also find out what PAYE taxes you have to pay, some company's pay PAYE taxes and others don't).
Forget about 500euros...they want to 419 you shocked

For you occupation and skill (assuming you've been working a while) your company should be able to maintain your current 2000 euros plus all the mentioned extras in the earlier post, things like accomodation (Ikoyi, VI & Lekki accomodation is in the Millions oh, so make sure they give you house oh), transportation (do not play with this one, coming from jand and being in Nigeria without a car is madness) etc.

Believe me coming to naija is not just about getting good pay, you need to be ready for a dramatic change in culture, people behaviour, weather etc. You need thick skin to come back home, especially after such a long time away. I hope you have been coming home on vacation, because believe me it is not a piece of cake.

Once you have the right frame of mind and the financial backing, you will love it....most of the time

I understand that AIT and Raypower were showing human body parts...live...on air

How can a responsible TV station show graphic scenes on daytime TV, especially with soo many people grieving and unaware of their loved ones location. Can you imagine, if a child recognised her mother's outfit from a body part on TV?
It is just grosse.

It is highly unprofessional and we allow it all the time in Nigerian media (TV and papers)
Romance / Re: Help, I'm In Love With My Cousin's Wife's Sister! by whocares: 12:46pm On Oct 24, 2005
I don't think the bad part is dating (as long as there is definitely no blood between you), it is the breaking up that may create a family problem.

You guys should date on the down low first and then if you both think it is true love, take it to your families.
Family / Re: Help: I'm Married But In Love With Another Woman by whocares: 12:36pm On Oct 24, 2005
Look man, unless you can categorically say you do not love your wife and you love the new woman; you need to get over yourself because you just want what you can't have.

Nairaland / General / Re: 19 Year Old Nigerian Girl in UK Looking for Her Parents in Nigeria by whocares: 5:06pm On Oct 21, 2005
I don't understand the reluctance to report this woman to the police.

If the authorities deport the little girl (it seems the girl wants to go home) - she gets a free ride home
If not - social services can help her with accomodation etc.

I cannot imagine what the little girl would have done, to warrant bad treatment.
And for the woman to allow her sleep in the park (in that weather), especially in a country where she knows nobody - is just plain evil.

She (the woman) needs an eye opener - if whatever the little girl did is that bad, the police will deal with it.

Nairaland / General / Re: What makes a "big boy" or "big girl"? by whocares: 1:34pm On Oct 21, 2005
I think y'all are just saying what you want the tag to mean, as opposed to what we all know it means.

Kazey is right on the money with the definition

From what i know, the moment you are able to flaunt your heavy wallet, they would automatically give you the "tag". Its more of the monetary well being rather than the social, moral part of someone. That is the way I see many people use it back in Nigeria. Just being honest, and I am sure many of the posters here belong to the group of people that use the tag to those mentioned in the later.

Its just the mentality. Just like the class system. Have you heared a lady said, "He is not my type", really if you find out, it has nothing to do with the social or moral part, its just the "level" as they call it. The same applies in this situation. In Nigeria, I repeat again, you are called a big boy or a big girl if you are well to do, as in rich, especially when you use sophisticated stuff. Ride a ferrari at 20, and hear what they would call you .
That is just what I realised. Or na lie?

I doubt very much that CITY PEOPLE addresses people as big boyz and big girls for their moral stance or maturity...but thats just me
Phones / Re: MTN Nigeria is a Failure: True or False? by whocares: 9:34am On Oct 19, 2005
Do the MTN service centres sell the N400 card at N450?
Why don't you ask the person that sold you the card.

BTW, i am sending this from my (MTN) phone...Seun rocks ;-)

OMG rolleyes rolleyes rolleyes rolleyes rolleyes rolleyes rolleyes rolleyes rolleyes rolleyes rolleyes rolleyes

It is apparent that my BMW analogy is wasted on Mamba et al.
I did not mean MTN is BMW or vice verse; if a person cannot afford to buy BMW they jejely go and buy scoda or tokumbo. Likewise if MTN is expensive and you feel the service is poor, you have a choice to buy something cheaper and stop asking them to become cheaper.

As for you assumption
Thank goodness we have MTN staffs here that can help redeem their poor image..
I guess everyone that attempts to defend MTN works there. Abeg if they have vacancy let me know- yes oh, i have some knowledge of the telecomms industry and i dey find new job.

MTN is not my style because they lied to Nigerians that per second was not possible
I'm sure MTN never claimed that per second billing was impossible from a technology standpoint. The fact that they didn't have the infrastructure at the time, does that constitute lying?
BTW, why was it unlawful that they charged N100 for switching? Do you have any idea what it takes to switch from one type of charging to another? I am very sure you don't. NCC asked them to stop charging for it and refund, so they did. If it was illegal, them for dey court or something similar.
Anyway , as Nigerians we choose to believe what makes us comfortable, as opposed to what is true.
I am glad to see that some people hate MTN (with a passion) and others can't live without them. We thank God for democracy and free will.

Mr/Ms Bagoma, very interesting post you made
NCC still needs to do more o
I mean with people out there giving the impression that Nigerians are willing, no, not just willing but begging to pay EXTRA for good quality service which is our RIGHT in the first place, we need them even more to help curb their(MTN) excesses.

Make no mistake, any type of service, from a private company is NOT your right. Like any other company providing a service, you pay for it... if you don't like it, u know what to do. Like someone said earlier, it ain't a public service.
Phones / Re: MTN Nigeria is a Failure: True or False? by whocares: 12:52pm On Oct 17, 2005
I covered that in MY post

They just need to provide a service that matches the cost.

wink
Phones / Re: MTN Nigeria is a Failure: True or False? by whocares: 12:22pm On Oct 17, 2005
Seun, you make a very good point, but i think the issue is BMW does not make any apologies for their prices because if you can't afford it ... you buy scoda.
rolleyes rolleyes rolleyes
I don't get this high expectation for MTN to become cheap. They just need to provide a service that matches the cost.
shocked shocked shocked
I need to take up Mamba's point regarding the 0806 numbers
What is the reason behind the release of 0806 when the 0803 network hasn't been exhausted? I feel this is a cooked up strategy to confuse subscribers that they are far far ahead of other Networks because I really don't see the reason when their subscriber base is still far below 10million.. Subtracting 08030000000 from 08039999999 gives you approximately 10million lines of which 70% hasn't been exhausted..

I'm sure you know that for MTN to start with this new range, it had to be approved by the NCC. Which implies that whatever justification they gave was accepted by NCC. So, do me a favour, and ask NCC why they approved, instead of making statements like that. I'm sure that i read somewhere that the MTN subscriber base is more that your estimate (70% of 10mill)

Dre901, do not make things up as you go along rolleyes rolleyes rolleyes rolleyes rolleyes

"The GPRS you saw on your sagem fone was the one from glo or mtel because it picks any network that has gprs on it.which is glo or mtel.Dats one of the beauty of a sagem fone."

Your above statement is completely UNTRUE.
There is no in-country GSM network roaming in Nigeria (or anywhere else in the world for that matter), so it is impossible to pick up a signal from another network; be it voice or GPRS coverage.
Any network that allows that will be completely daft.

So if Angel eyes can see GPRS signal on the MTN phone, then that means MTN has GPRS.
The fact that they haven't told you about it, doesn't mean it's not there.
