Culture / Re: Why Must Nigerians Abroad Marry Nigerians? by whocares: 9:18pm On Mar 26, 2006
I think it is a generation thing, but frankly those old folks are usually right. You can't control who you love, but like you've already experienced, love is not always enough. we nigerians are unique with our wierd sense of being, it takes one to know one. so yes, i'm sitting on the fence on this one :-)

I thought the whole point of relationships was getting to know your partner and then eventually deciding to marry or not.
Romance / Re: Most Girls Now Want To Settle With A Ready-Made Man by whocares: 1:16pm On Feb 10, 2006
My thoughts on this matter ... and i am not refering to the scantily dressed girl who just wants to jump form one rich guy to another, with no intention of getting married.

The average intelligent woman has evolved. In past decades woman were not in the financial positions most of them are now. Most women married, straight out of secondary school or even university, to young hardworking men and it meant nothing to suffer and toil with said man.
Now women are furthering their education, getting powerful jobs and leaving marriage for later in life. i guess it is hard for a women, who by her own standards is made, to seek an up and coming young man...without being his sugar mummy that is.

At a certain age, your priorities are clearer and you have a short list of requirements (for some that is sadly money, but damn that the womans choice ok) and there is no need wasting anybodys time in a relationship when you know they don't meet your minimum spec.

Sad but true cool
Travel / Re: Nigerians Abroad Must Return Home by whocares: 12:53pm On Feb 10, 2006
I read this thread and i am amused and saddened. undecided

Someone asked earlier, who is Nigeria? and no one responded.

Nigeria is made up of you and me and only we can affect change.
Complaining from across the ocean is not adding value and i can talk ... i have been back in Nigeria for about 1year now after 10years in London.
For a country like ours change cannot be overnight and will probably not be evident in our generation, but you and i, the citizens, have to effect the change, in our personal lives and in our relationship with others.
if you behave in a certain way, people will begin to know you for that. Not every body accepts bribe and if more and more Nigerians, who have no tolerance for bribary and corruption, return home, then less and less people will take bribe, making those who do the minority...i see a big change coming on wink wink wink

- Everybody wants to be paid for doing their job, right? Fair enough, if i receive good service i'll give tip (which i understand is a requirement in the US), but if the service is bad i don't; hell if the service was that bad i wouldn't go back anyway.
- when most people are cheated, it is usually as a result of their own greed.
- You can't expect things that have been imported to cost the same as in the US or UK, just doesn't make sense. If you don't want to pay naija price, do what i do...shop when you go on vacation, until that time when we begin to produce goods of comparable quality.
- No security, of course tell me exactly where is secure. When i was at Uni in london, a girl was raped at the same busstop i used everyday to school. i promptly got myself a tokumbo car cheesy
- No electricity then get a good generator. So instead of paying British gas, you use your money to run your gen
- No where to start from, then that is an entirely personal issue. If you're unemployed where you are then tough luck getting a job here and i think that applies in every country

For now so many things have to be endured, but if everybody pulls together to fight against corruption, poverty, bad government etc changes will occur; but we don't do that do we? We don't fight for any cause and expect change to occur spontaneously...puulleesse!!
Prayer is one thing, but we all know that God helps those who help themselves. Action speaks louder than words people.

We all know the problems, so i'm not going to list them, but i can categorically say that nothing has happened to me, yet, to make me regret my move. Granted, it was a very difficult decision to make and a lot of planning went into it (just like Oasis friend), but i'm happy and so is my family.
And i'd like to think that my being here is contributing to making Nigeria a better place for my children

Even the english dictionary gives the same definition of Faith - Belief that does not rest on logical proof or material evidence/The theological virtue defined as secure belief in God and a trusting acceptance of God's will.

To be clear, i recommend she leaves the fool. Leave him, leave him, leave him.
Pack his bags and throw him the f&*k out, i'm sure Moni has enough cupboard space to accomodate cassanova

@lullaby and Toying have already expanciated on my points.
The sheer disrespect of maintaining the affair even after his wife found out is what is killing me.
This is not a one time thing, so girlfriend has to take drastic action

@prettyh
Divorce is the final course of action. Leave him and if he wants you back, he should fight for you. If he doesn't come after you, then you know it is done and dusted.
But be warned most cheaters re-offend grin grin grin

Habba! Which kind fight for your man that doesn't want you?

BTW who said divorcees have to be alone for the rest of their lives?

@uchesco
Don't you think it is Lanre that should be fighting for his wife and not the other way round?
Family / Re: My Husband's Affair and the Bellview Plane Crash by whocares: 12:25pm On Nov 14, 2005
After reading some of these post, i have concluded that women are the reason men cheat...especially Nigerian women.
We perpetuate this bullcrap from generation to generation.

I cannot comprehend most of the stuff i am hearing here.
So in the sake of having a husband, a woman should loose her sanity?
Pray, forgive, stop nagging, thank Moni, be like Moni...what d f&%k

Forget that Lanre wants to keep his wife AND Moni, he cannot possibly be in the wrong abi?
Forget that Lanre also took the wedding vows that he had no trouble breaking?
Is it better for children to grow up in a troubled home, than have two separate but happy parents?

The more women tolorate it, men will continue to do it.

Family / Re: What Are Your Views On Divorce? by whocares: 2:19pm On Nov 11, 2005
I see so many posts with people riding their high horses again.

How do you know the love you feel is the real deal?
I remember being in love in primary school, secondary school ,university etc and each time i felt more in love.
The truth is you never really know, but you trust your instincts and pray you made the right choice.
Which is why i think marriage is not a step to be taken lightly.

It is the person that wears the shoe, that knows where it pinches so no one can dictate divorce to you except you.

I don't think anyone should live in bondage for the sake of being married or for the children or whatever.
Don't get me wong, you should try to make it work, but if it doesn't well
and i am a married catholic; imagine that tongue
Family / Re: Wife Beatings in Africa by whocares: 1:31pm On Nov 11, 2005
I am with Seun on this one oh.

It is a vicious cycle.
A man beats his wife, his wife continues to take it, so the son assumes he has a right to beat his wife.
The son then beats his wife, who again continues to take it and their son learns to do it even better.

Nobody can make you feel inferior without your permission.

Family / Re: My Boss is Toasting Me. Should I tell My Husband? by whocares: 1:13pm On Nov 11, 2005
You are obviously a babe and i am sure he is not the first guy to toast you since you got married.

Normally, i wouldn't bother as it is not an issue, but him being your boss, makes it a little more serious.
It could escalate and begin to affect your work, so tell your man.

I agree, you shouldn't keep anything from your husband, but the truth is a lot of men 'especially Nigeria husbands' are fundamentally insecure.
Telling him everybody that chases your may create more problems that not...again that depends on the kind of husband you have.

I am not a bible guru, but i'm sure there is a bible passage that says the gift of the holy spirit is different for different people...speaking in tongues, healing etc
Religion / Re: Do Catholics Believe in Being Born Again? by whocares: 10:52am On Nov 11, 2005
You see this brings me back to my statement about people reading/interpreting the bible literally
You can turn the bible upside down and side to side. I believe one reads the bible and the spirit (yes, GOD the holy spirit) interpretes it to you as applicable.
So, your understanding of a certain scripture in the context of your life, would be totally different from mine.

I am sure if you read the bible you will find references for and against alcohol.
What about the people that binge on food? Are their body's not temples?
We tend to pick on things that are defined by society as good or bad and put a religious spin on it...such as smoking and alcohol...what about gluttony, greed, anger and the other deadly sins?

My philosophy is simple, everything in moderation. Aside from that, it is common sense...abi?

I did not say all churches are bad and yes, i am referring to All churches (catholic et al)

I acknowledge we have problems in the institution that is the catholic church, but that does not take away from my catholic faith.
The same way, open minded people accept that there are bogus as well as original penticostal churches. that doesn't mean a true believer who worships in a 'bogus' penticostal church is less of a christian.

You can turn the bible upside down and side to side. I believe one reads the bible and the spirit (yes, GOD the holy spirit) interpretes it to you as applicable.
So, your understanding of a certain scripture in the context of your life, would be totally different from mine.

@Eddy tells
@whocares ............. jiberisturumburu rabababab turatatramama dayu tu ratus kumito ribertanika  interpretation:  what do u think about that Sucker!
Is that your language? or you speaking in tongues.......oops, i meant to say jibberish
If you care to read my earlier post and stop being emotional, you would realise i am as far from judging as it gets.

I dare to talk about perpertuating evil, because i have free will. The fact that a priest molested a child does not mean that his congregation are equally evil. The 'pastors' driving 5series on the back of a hungry and trusting congregation, what does that make his congregation?
There are gay bishops and pastors, some even use black magic. None of this is unique to any one church.

The catholic institution failed to act, to dismiss the said priests the instant the act was discovered and prosecute them accordingly and for that i am trully saddened.
It still does not make me less of a catholic.

I worship God, not the priest and i choose to use the catholic faith as my method of worship....deal with it

We need to get off our high horses accept that there is good and evil everywhere, in every religion and faith. we have people who exploit others be it sexually, financially or dare i say 'brainwashingly'.
We have fanatics and we have 'just plain crazy' folks.

Who the hell determines who is right or wrong about how one decides to worship GOD...but that is the beauty of it  smiley 'you believe without seeing'
