I've never even given it a thought. I don't have that luxury. Quick - money schemes are a very quick way to lose valuable amount of money.

I think sports betting is the in thing at the moment as I've seen teenagers strolling around betting houses.

I've never encouraged it. I suggest you should engage it(if you're doing so). Only wealth gotten by diligent and painstaking means will endure. Easy comes, easy goes.

A few people might be making it via sports betting. But I'm yet to see one of them close to me shaaa.

Whynotthetruth, ideykwum, INDESTRUCTABLEX, Truckpusher, barcanista, noblezone, sarahbabyxx and others, your words will be invaluable to this space.

Good morning to you all. And may this day and month be meaningful and prosperous for us all.
Amen...
I dread betting because it is addictive...but sincerely, I hope to take the risk one of these days just for the fun, love of football, and to see what the risk is like...

@whynotthetruth, pls how does the insurance stuff work?

firstly is it safe, if the company should go down what will happens to my fund?

what's the interest rate like, my SDRA account with sterling is 7% PA

I will read more about it, but insights from you will be appreciated.
I am not an insurance broker or working in an insurance firm so I don't have all the details you may need...but if you're in Lagos and interested I can link you up with the lady that does mine(account officer)...she's with Aiico insurance...

Your fund is safe as it is with a topmost bank...They were restructured and recapitalized with banks sometime ago...

My 2year policy was 13%...you're meant to pay monthly, or quarterly or yearly depending on your choice...

They have several choice policies...They will explain better to you if you're interested...

Why not mail me...so that I will link you to the Lady...she serves me real well...

@whynotthetruth I totally get your points! The major reason for suggesting that was to encourage him to 'save'....despite how little the interest might be its still a bit attractive.....and why would you let the money mature for just '30 days' angry for wetin na grin

@shares shares aren't of value like they used to be.....I remember when my parent bought me shares when I was in primary school for #500,000.....for the past two years I've been getting #249.48k and less grin....the 'economic meltdown' as you stated affected the securities abi stock market

@micro-finance banks....the issue I have with micro-finance banks these days is the amount they start with...the highest most micro-finance banks start with is 50k or 60k.The ones that give higher ask/request for really hight deposit.this isn't always favourable for market women way no too dey loaded that's why you see them jumping from one micro finance to another....then they start to have issues with the weekly or monthly payment......I don't even want to get started on how rigorous the process is...you have to

1)Pay for form
2)Pay for issurance
3)Pay deposit
4)Bring two or more guarantors
5) You have to wait for weeks to have your loan processed
6) Most times you have to have collateral (na everybody get property ni grin)
On top 60k ooo grin

Let me share one of the businesses my mom ventured into
My mum bought an okada the for like 80k or so and the man paid back with 120k or so (hire purchase)...my mum added money to it....bought two more put it up for hire purchase. My mum did this till she bought two buses and put them up for hire purchase and got like twice the money she bought them for.she then bought a car and did the same.....and it went on and on.
The purpose of my epistle is cheesy you can start small and end up Big...my mum started with just one bike and ended up with OKADAS,BUSES and CARS that she put up for hire purchase.you don't always have to start big wink
I was also trying to reinforce your point in that place using my life experience...

@30day was an example... even if you do it for ten years...it is still what you will get in 30day duration multiplied by that period...that's how it works...

@Shares for most companies are just picking up now...

@What i mean by mentioning microfinance is that they were lending money to people. so they were just like small banks by the way they lend money to people with interests... not for people to go to microfinance as you thought or said...
FamilyRe: How Would You Advice I Spend My Salary(150k) by Whynotthetruth(m): 7:21pm On Jul 03, 2015
Now this is my opinion...Having observed your real needs per month don't cost up to 20k and I allow you access to another 30k for other needs...
Since you have bought a plot of land...

1)Plan to develop it hence you have a roof over your head in the next five years assuming your salary remains constant..

2)Note that With no project in sight, savings becomes boring and frustrating...

3)Write post dated cheques for the whole year and drop with a reputable insurance company of choice...for a policy of say two years after which you commence building immediately on maturity...

4)You can take this insurance policy as collateral to borrow from same insurance company as you're saving with them...Use this loan to purchase more plots of land whose value will appreciate by tomorrow...

5)Make sure you have used from same money you spared for your expenses before investing others to sort out such logistics as building plans etc...

6)On maturity, apply your money to building immediately... You will be glad you're your own landlord...

7)Remember, you borrowed to buy extra plots...Which means you have to continue savings to pay up because you have no free cash otherwise your lenders would uproot you cheesy...And so the cycle continues thus...

coolYou wanna save for marriage?...use same method...I don't save with banks because I am always tempted to go withdraw it to solve "unlimited needs"...Insurance companies have been my saviour sometime now...

You can also open different policies with them including education, death, marriage etc...

But if you have friends with viable ideas whom you trust...you can invest in such too...but for me, i would prefer you face your property development and other landed investments...thanks and good pm...

WOW at poster Big thanks for sharing these you just saved a soul.

But I do have a question, What happens when the said young man is not married?? either is he in any serious relationship??

thanks once more.
Sorry, I am drawing you back again but as I was rereading this thread, I was tempted to draw your attention to some personal experience of mine due to the advice sarahbabyxx gave you on savings and opening a fixed deposit account...

It is a noble idea but I will advise you based on my experience as someone who works in the financial industry and from my experience observing my parents...

1)Most people dread fixed deposits because of the small interest there. Imagine making #540 in a #100,000 fixed deposit for 30days...

2)Some others dread fixed deposit because they lack that bulk sum to fix...

3)Some others because they feel they have more than enough excuses/ needs hence can't save...

In all, you will always have a reason not to save if you don't want to save...

Now to my experience from my parents and place of work...

1)Once any child is born to them, they open an account with union bank(I am not working with them) grin...in the name of that child. Compulsorily, both my dad and mum each month drop #500 in those accounts...

2)All our school fees were paid from those accounts. Whenever any of us is in serious need like fees etc, they will take out the money from your own account which has accumulated over time...

3)When people dash us money, we give them to pay into our accounts...hence competition to save began among us their kids...

4)They were investing in shares too...I bought my first share with my quizz competition price money in SS2. Though I stopped investing there after the global economic meltdown...but not my parents cheesy...you can add insurance policies too if you want...

5)Though I see myself giving away money to others most times...I strived hard to save always...

6)When I saw I had more financial burden than my salary... I wrote postdated cheques for 20% of my salary and gave to insurance company. Hence once my salary drops every month, insurance company take out my savings immediately before I go on spending spree grin...And it is a yearly policy...hence I am sure of embarking on a substantial project or investment when my policy matures at year end hence I wasn't waiting to accumulate funds to fix....(I am not an insurance broker o) grin...I only found away around my flaw of being extravagant grin...With this, you will have investments but lack cash gringrin

The above can make parenting easier and less stressful...while allowing you bulk savings to embark on projects....I saw my parents turn virtually to microfinance banks to even their senior colleagues because of their effective and efficient financial planning...

Cc. my mentors@Dearpreye, Ideykwum and Truckpusher... for criticisms and more insight...

BTW I shared my personal experience to show you that even though you're not rich, you can save because my parents weren't rich...thanks

…Says oil firms now default in tax payment

From ADETUTU FOLASADE-KOYI, Abuja

Acting Executive Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Samuel Ogungbesan, yesterday said the Federal Government got about N1.842 trillion revenue generated from taxes in the first half of 2015. Ogungbesan said the money was paid into the Federation Account shared by the three tiers of government.

The FIRS boss said this while briefing Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, on the activities of his agency, accompanied by his senior management officers. Ogungbesan, however, noted that Nigeria could have got more if not for the numerous social, political and economic challenges.

In a breakdown given to the Senate President, he said the agency raised N697 billion from Petroleum Profit Tax; N778 billion from the Company Income Tax and N376
billion as Value Added Tax, adding also that between N12 billion and N15 billion import VAT was still being expected from the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS). The agency’s annual target for the oil and gas sector is N1.4 trillion with an expected monthly target of N123.74 billion.

“We have oil but most of the foreign companies are not picking up our oil anymore because they have developed their own oil. Oil and gas, which is key to the economy, has not been doing too well. This is as a result of many factors. Many of these are completely outside our control, including the crash of price of oil in the international market.

“Although it started gathering some momentum in the last three months, as at today, it is $59 per barrel. What is within our purview is basically what intervention we can make to shore up from the revenues in the non-oil sector.”

Ogungbesan said his agency had perfected arrangement with the operators of the non-oil sector on how they could be making contributions to government on a.regular basis instead of the current annual or bi-annual remittances so that there would always be money to fund the budget.

Responding, Saraki noted that the country’s over dependence on oil could no longer be a way forward for the country, stressing the need to look at the area of taxes
which is more stable and reliable. The Senate President cautioned the FIRS management on the implementation of the luxury tax, especially as it concerned the private jet owners because the issue is sensational.

God bless you more and enrich your stock of wisdom...
I am still battling with that ability to say NO both to relatives and strangers...I love to help out always... Had issues severally with my parents as a boarding school guy in secondary level and even through my university then...because once I am out of my compound accompanied by folks from supposedly "not as rich" as my family, who I always give prior invitation and who go to school from their houses. I will share my pocket money to them according to my instincts on their 'needs' grin...and reserve only t.fare to school...Once in school and faced with monetary challenges, I will start bombarding my parents with 'cry for help' letters...Unfortunately for me, they always find out what I used my pocket money for because parents would come trooping to my house to thank my parents for the monetary gifts without knowing how much trouble they are putting me into....Anyway, the lashing out & harassment from my parents(they weren't as rich as my little brain was imagining), was part of my motivation to make sure I get plenty money gringrin early enough so as to help the less privileged with my own money with no parents to harass me again gringrin Today, I see myself carrying people's crosses with nobody to assist in mine coupled with the fact that I can't even say NO with the "excessive" burden...BTW I haven't gotten the "plenty money" yet but God is awake and surely will provide abundantly more than I can ask cheesy thanks boss Dearpreye
