for a beginner, one should still leave out the design of everyday things though.


But you see that steal like an artist is good for designers and beginners who questions their creativity and how to be creative

while UX Fundamentals and Principles for Non-UX Professionals ,omoor, this book is sweet o, damn, it opens up everything and you get deep understanding.

the Design of Everyday Things by Don Norman

I'm currently reading UX Fundamentals and Principles for Non-UX Professionals this month.

You can also suggest other good books in Design

If you are going to be doing design, just know you'd be doing tons of reading...that's if you really want to be good at the craft.

Focusing on the practical aspect is good, but the theory would put you in much better position for the industry.

If you don't like to read...hmm...jst learn am, even if na short 2min medium articles

This thread was inspired by missimelda01 and Ademat7 and borne out of the desire to see other designer beginners in Nairaland grow.

I have tried my hands on a few things, and I discover there are very long and quite serious threads for Stock traders, forex, Mturk, travelling abroad and the likes, but there's few to none dedicated threads for Design. If there is, I have not seen

The ones I've seen are just scattered about Nairaland. Also this section has the least amount of topics in the Science and Tech section.

There's no guide or single community of designers here.

I'd like to solve that problem. I'd like you to join me in solving that problem.

So we'd be dropping tips, resources, design inspirations, links, articles, books, and even our designs for critics in this thread

Well I’ve had experience with one, he was obsessed with me and I never returned the love, he was my first ❤️. We always fought and made up, then he started dating one girl and wanted me back, I went back not because of I loved him but just to have a friend, but I never knew he had moved on, he just wanted to revenge, but I the process of his revenge he felt stuck cos he was obsessed... actually he was a very quiet guy but talks when with make friends, he was just really shy around girls especially with me

As I stubborn reach na so so quiet men dey date me. So I've had great experience from past relationships and currently another quiet one dey my side. What I noticed with them


They are highly intelligent, don't talk much, don't mingle much, social function almost zero.
Them sabi cook oooo! Few clothes, expensive or not, they are well arranged,ironed.No scatter scatter. So once I'm looking for something they help me look for it because I go scatter their wardrobe and leave it like that! No time!

They are calculated and secretive. Don't gossip at all. Going into their house and coming out seems like sneeking around, so people don't know if they are in or out.

Don't like loud music.Those who go to club rarely dance, them go dey laugh who dey dance . When they decide to party, the subsequent days makes them really dull and want to 'rest'. Even during outings after few laughs and a drink with plenty water, next na to pick their car keys or flag down a taxi , time to go

Don't wear loud bright dresses. Dull dresses are their Craze.

Observe rather than talk. When they talk everyone is silent.

No toasting, they were too shy to say their mind. They will look and make few remarks, then look again. Relationship usually start from me taking the lead by keeping them talking with questions. "Do you like me?" that's enough to make them blush with relief and acceptance.

Spend thrifts. Show offs is foolishness to them.Not really into social media, few pics, most times like to be anonymous. Also, they can be nasty in secret.

Gadget lovers. Will spend money on the latest Playstation.Dont mind playing against computer for hours. Those who don't like video games, hardly watch football matches or are simply in different about sports. The passionate ones likes to watch it indoors, if they must watch outside na only them go sit down one corner for chair like zombie.
Simplicity. Eating out is not their need, so if they must, mostly snacks rather than cooked food. Neat freeks!
Forgives easily but with serious warning.
Don't like the silent treatment during quarrel. They will appear calm at first but, Na lie . Just pretend you no longer find them attractive or appealing and all hell breaks loose.
Not too romantic but very supportive and reasonable. Calm in the face of overwhelming trouble. Why others are panicky, they keep clear head, and think of solving issues diplomatically.
The ones who cheats do it well. You may never notice because they will never pick the other woman's frantic calls, if them too disturb they block them temporarily till further _drilling notice.Them no just like wahala from nags.
Have soft spot for women and can easily be manipulated to give out cash to them even without sleeping with them. Even an ex will continue to reap them off Even if they are no longer interested.
Don't get angry easily, but when they get you'd be sorry. Really really sorry and disappointed in yourself. They will lay all your 4ck ups and corner your defense on every angle

But them still dey talk o, but na inside house. Abuse them and meet a brick wall, no reaction. As my mouth sharp reach, I don't use bad words on them like I do on the street,They hardly use insults to drive home their point once an argument be like say e won bring insult, they ignore and find their way out. There are people that their level of maturity controls what you say.

Zuri was just pure UX anyway. Not much on UI, we had to figure that out ourselves, with YouTube and articles.

Many of them are not practicing what they studied at all.
Imagine, Bachelor of Law, Chemistry and the likes.... It's well with us

Product design? UI/UX? Graphics design? Wow. Maybe you meant packaging design?

In the design world, You start from graphics first. Before deciding to major in UI which is even different from UX in a way. Then finally up to the product designer role which more or less entails all i mentioned up there, including animations, video editing & such and involves a steep learning curve.

I'll tell you the blunt truth. You love coding, stick to front end dev, It would even get you a job faster than designs which is more or less saturated, then add UI to your set of skills. Later you can add UX Design & research if you want.

I understand its hard, but you're blundering all around the place, choose a path & stick to it nomatter what. Find a programming firm to intern instead of wasting valuable time somewhere because of the benefits. You will understand in the long run of having a solid foundation. And get a laptop

You don't always have to start from graphics. Anyone can learn UI Design as a beginner, without knowledge of graphics design.

You'd pick it up as you progress in UI Design.

Anyway. You can still fake till you make it.

First off, you have to convince them that you're still learning UI/UX, cos graphics and product design are two different things

Secondly, bury yourself in YouTube and Google between now and Monday morning. Learn everything about interviews and what you need to know. Watch a lot beginner videos on Design. This would give you what to say.
Watch a small video that you can practice along on figma. Then make sure to practise it, at least design two things before tomorrow. It would give you an edge, a air of small experience, and confidence that you know what you signed up for.

Once you ace the interview, you can still learn on the job, even within a week, vigorously.

You can do this, I know this because of what you did with the Twitter thing, living and breathing on Twitter.

Do same here..., with YouTube

If you have any specific questions, after you must have learnt some things, may be on colours, or grids, or style guides, whatever, just lemme know...
