@maziude and yemdogg and other members of the house should please help this guy blizz411: Kindly assist guide me. I graduated with 2.1 mech engineering 2011 and have been working with the bank since 2014. I intend to run a masters programme in Canada. Is it convenient to switch to MBA because of my banking experience since i am in business development or continue M.eng in mech engineering?
Which will be an easier process for me? |

maziude: Boss, What I am saying is, your friend will be in the best position to provide details of his profile for proper suggestions to be made.
For example, you said he works in a bank, what is his function? Full time or contract staff? Marketing or customer service? Etc... these are some of the items he needs to provide.
Moreover,I don't think 2 years in the bank will be enough reasons to switch to MBA in the eyes of the VO, but then you never know.
If it is Msc/Meng, he should provide his B.eng grade, so we can further advise him, what to do in terms of applying and securing funding. Even if he has his own fund, an extra fund wont kill.
The bottom line is, if he is on this thread, he can get information immediately and even ask questions on the go... it is a win for him.
Just my opinion though... Thanks so much |

maziude: Hello boss,
Is it possible for your friend to come here and give his full profile? That way it would be easy to help him. Passing a message through you to him will generally lead to loss in content. Just like I mentioned earlier he's been working in the bank since he finished Youth Service. I don't see why there will "lost of content" in suggestions that would be made. it's basically telling him the suggestions of members of the house. |

Hello house, a friend needs advice on this: He has a B.Eng in Mechanical Engineering (2011) but has been working in a bank since 2014. He intends to apply for a masters degree programme in 2018. should he go for an MBA or M.Eng? |
Travel › Re: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 12 by willyboss: 5:17am On May 13, 2017 |
yemdogg: Now, you are going to tailor your sop and profile towards your professional (Engineering) contribution to the firm. Make it look like, your partner handles the business why you handle the technical stuffs in the company. Ensure to paint the company as an organisation that deals in products particularly from the Oil and Gas sector and probably render some engineering services. Let the VO know that it is your proficiency as an engineer that you bring to the table, while your partner handles the business. Your sop should address this part. Thanks a billion |

yemdogg: The problem is largely due to the fact that the VO doesn't see him as a genuine student. Haba you just joined your friend in business and you even went as far as providing evidence of the existence of the business and all of all sudden, you drifted away from the business and decided to pursue a Master’s degree. I might be inclined to align my thoughts on this with that of the VO. Your business according to you is a growing concern, ordinarily, an average man would at this point when his business is gathering momentum be inclined to focus more on his business rather than pursuing an academic exercise. If you're doing otherwise, then something is fishy, and the VO might have been confused as to your agenda in Canada. What is even more is that you could have pursued the program in Nigeria where you could easily monitor your business growth. In short your agenda is unclear to the VO and from my little experience about Canadian Study permit, these VOS loves clarity and anything slightly unclear to them will most likely be resolved against the applicant.
Now below are what the VO must have thought about you:
He didn't believe that your business is a growing concern as you've painted it to be, otherwise, why would you want to pursue an academic exercise at this point when your business is gathering momentum? Am sure you must have stated in your application form that your current activity is business, flowing from this, anything you do should have been business inclined. Infact, in this regard or context, a pgc or diploma in business would have been more sellable than a M.eng. At least it's quite related to your current activity. The funny thing is that you must have overwhelmingly talked about your business in an attempt to use it as hometie not being conscious of the lack of relationship it has with your proposed program.
My advise, if you intend to scale through, omit the business in your next application. At best, you can just mention your position in the firm or company perhaps as an engineering consultant. But the moment you state that you're a partner in the business, then a VO may find it hard to comprehend the relevance of your M.eng degree to your career in Business. As far as the VO is concerned now, you're a confused person who doesn't know what he wants ultimately. When it comes to study permit, you must choose a career path and stick by it no matter what. You have the duty to be consistent throughout your application.
@Austipee4, I read your recommendation and that of @MichV, They're quite compelling, I sincerely hope @willyboss takes the hint.
Pls take this hint.
CC @willyboss My fear/concern is; will the VO not review my previous application and notice I filled in business before and that I was a partner in the business? |

SamReinvented: This evidence that you submitted, does it include the following? Prove of registration and legal operation (CAC certificate, tax clearance, etc); a legal document that establishes your claim of partnership, clearly defining your stake in the business; the company's statement of account, to represent the size of it and its worth. If not, what exactly are the evidence that you submitted? Yes I included these documents |

Adefolakemi: Sorry about the delay. If you finished from uni in 2011 which is about 6 years ago and you have 10 months working experience in your field, i am guessing you have been doing this business with your friend for almost 4 years. I think the VO believes that you should be interested in furthering your studies to improve your business and not your undergraduate course. This is just my thoughts. I don't really know so much. I finished Youth Service 2013, started working 2014 and only joined my friend's business March 2016 |

emeify: What is the nature of the business? Did you show enough funds and ties to Nigeria? And what was the 'exact' reason for the delay The business is sale of petroleum products, I showed enough funds and ties to Nigeria(members of my family are all in Nigeria and I provided assets and). The VO stated that he/she is not "CONVINCED" that I would leave Canada on completion of my programme and ticked only "PURPOSE OF VISIT" |

Eraytee: its well, your profile seems good to me, refusing you on purpose of visit alone still keeps me wondering anyways. GCMS note would point it all out. this visa thing is now beyond your course being related to your previous academics/work experience... what else do they want? when you dont av financial issue. its well My brother I was baffled when I saw it. I am thinking it's an oversight on the part of the vo. still trying to get my head around it. |

Ejaloni123: How many years have you spent on the job? When did you finish your undergraduate degree? Perhaps, that might give an insight into the problem. I graduated 2011 and worked as a piping draughtsman/designer for about ten months. I am currently in partnership with a friend in his business(I provided evidence of this in my application) |

Please house I need advice on this: My application was refused on PURPOSE OF VISIT because the vo wasn't "convinced" I would leave Canada on completion of my programme. In my application I included my assets and that members of my family are in Nigeria. I am not married. my purposed course of study is in line with my undergraduate degree. how do I CONVINCE the vo that I would leave? I thought I had that covered already.
UG: Mechanical Engineering(2011) Finished NYSC: 2013 Intended course of study: Mechanical Engineering (M.Eng) Work Experience: worked as a piping draughtsman/designer for about ten months(2014) but currently in partnership(since March 2016) with a friend in his business(I provided evidence of this in my application) |

tobyharwe: I have thought deeply on how I can explain to the vo that I will be leaving Canada after my education without lying, but the only idea that came to me is for me to declare in a written document that I will leave at the end of my education and to notarize or swear an affidavit for it.
Who thinks this will work? All you have to do is to let the vo know that your family members are all here in Nigeria and that you have no relation over there in Canada. If you have assets you could include it too |
