An unidentified middle-aged man, Wednesday, abducted two siblings, who were returning from extra-moral class in Satellite area of Lagos. Thereafter, he exchanged them for two bags of rice in a shop at 63, Marwa Road, near Chemist Bus Stop. The children are aged eight and 13. It was gathered that at the shop, the abductor told the sales girl that he would like to take two bags of rice to the mother of the children, whom he claimed owned a restaurant close-by, to ascertain whether the rice was the brand she needed. National President of the Youth Wing Christian Association of Nigeria, YOWICAN, Engr. Daniel Kadzai has asserted that workers in the country were fast becoming beggars and slaves under the All Progressives Congress, APC,-led administration in the country. Aero Contractors Airlines has announced that it would suspend its scheduled services indefinitely from Thursday, September 1, 2016. According to the airline, the decision was as a result of the current economic situation in the country, which had gravely affected its business over the past six months and by extension, its scheduled services operations. The airline management, in a statement made available to The Point, however, said that suspending operations was part of the strategic business realignment to reposition the airline and return it to the part of profitability. Kill 5 in Sokoto, wreak havoc in Kaduna, Edo NATIONAL Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, has received warnings from the neighbouring Republic of Niger that the present water level in the River Niger is as high as this time in 2012. “If the heavy rainfall continues in intensity and duration within these regions of the River Niger, it is imminent that flood situation similar to that of the year 2012 may occur,” NEMA Director General Muhammad Sani Sidi said. A Nigerian militant group, the Niger Delta Avengers (NDA) which has claimed a wave of attacks on oil facilities in the Niger Delta, said it was ready for a ceasefire and a dialogue with the government, Reuters reports. “We are going to continue the observation of our announced ceasefire of hostilities in the Niger Delta against … the multinational oil corporations,” the NDA said in a statement received by Reuters on Sunday. “We promise to fight more for the Niger Delta, if this opportunity fails,” it said. Bertrand Piccard and André Borschberg succeeded in their crazy dream of achieving the first ever Round-The-World Solar Flight. Solar Impulse 2 landed in Abu Dhabi more than a year after its initial take off, marking the end of an epic 25,000-mile (40,000-kilometer) journey. The plane made 16 stops, including in India, China, the U.S., Italy, Egypt and the United Arab Emirates -- where it first took off. The Swiss-engineered single-seater aircraft is powered by 17,248 solar cells and runs on battery power at night. Its average airspeed was 46 mph, though that increased during the day when the sun's rays were strongest. It took 70 hours for the plane to cross the Atlantic and 118 hours across the Pacific. The hostage killed in an attack on a Catholic church in Normandy, France, on Tuesday was a priest, the Archbishop of Rouen said in a statement. The Rev. Jacques Hamel, 84, was killed during the attack, according to a statement published on the website of the Diocese of Rouen. Two men took five people hostage in the church in the town of Saint-Etienne-du-Rouvray during morning Mass, Interior Ministry spokesman Pierre-Henry Brandet said. Ekiti State Governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose, has said the state government got a net allocation of N2.5 billion from the Federation Account for the month of July, contrary to insinuations by the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) that it got over N9 billion. He made this disclosure in Ado-Ekiti on Monday while speaking on state radio and television. The death has occurred of the former Deputy Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Magaji Abdullahi. Aged 69, Abdullahi died in the early hours of Sunday after a protracted illness at his residence located at NNDC Quarters at Sharada area in Kano metropolis. Alhaji Abdulkadir Ibrahim, the former Press Secretary to the deceased, confirmed this in interview with our correspondent on Sunday in Kano. He said that Abdullahi is survived by one wife, many children and grand children. According to him, the deceased was a one-time commissioner for Works, Housing and Transport between 1989 and 1990, and later commissioner for Water Resources. NAN reports that Abdullahi came into limelight when he contested for the governorship of Kano State under the defunct Social Democratic Party (SDP) in 1991. In 1999, Abdullahi defeated Sen. Kabiru Gaya in the APP governorship primaries, but lost to Sen. Rabiu Kwankwaso. Two middled-aged women lost their lives while four others were injured on Saturday night in a motor accident at Wasimi end of the Lagos/Abeokuta Expressway in Ogun State. Three officers are feared dead after a shooting in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, officials said. Kip Holden, the mayor-president of East Baton Rouge Parish Kip Holden, said authorities were still trying to get a handle on the situation, but added, "The count is three officers dead possibly." The victims may include police officers and sheriff's deputies "There is still an active scene. They are investigating," he said. "Right now we are trying to get our arms around everything." The shooter is believed to be down as well, Holden said. "Everything is moving fast and I have not been able to verify everything," he said. The Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers, NUPENGW, and the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria, PENGASSAN, have called off their industrial action. The decision to call of the strike by both union was taken after a meeting with the Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige. A 42 year-old mother of seven, Mrs. Eunice Elisha, was on Saturday morning murdered by unknown assailants while evangelizing around Gbazango-West area of Kubwa, a satellite town in the Federal Capital Territory. Eunice, who was a Deaconess at the Divine Touch Parish of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Old NEPA Road, Phase 4, Kubwa, was said to have been cut in the neck and also stabbed in the stomach. Nassarawa State Governor, Tanko Al-Makura, on Saturday threatened to recruit fresh graduates to replace workers in the state currently on strike over non-payment of their salary. The governor issued the threat in Nassarawa Eggon at the celebration of the 35th coronation anniversary of Aren Eggon, Dr Bala Angbazo. Panic as plot to stop report uncovered AS THE Presidential Committee on Defence Equipment Procurement in the Nigerian Armed Forces concludes its task and is set to submit its report to President Muhammadu Buhari soon, there are frenetic scheming among former army chiefs and other top officers of the Nigerian Army to stop the process.
