As the National Blood Transfusion Service, NBTS, experiences underfunding, obsolete equipments and inadequate technical staff, there are indications that blood scarcity may hit Nigeria. The looming danger risks the lives of over 1 million Nigerians; mostly accident victims, pregnant women as well as sundry blood needs and patients diagnosed with sickle cell anemia who rely so much on blood for survival. While the NBTS also does not have adequate data to support the blood needs of the people, because of its current predicaments, it is estimated that the unmet blood requirements by the organisation is put at over 500,000 units per annum. Foreign reserves may fall to 3.4 months cover of external payments GDP growth falls to 1.5% Govt fiscal deficit may rise to 4.2% Naira depreciation will increase debt and service burden Fitch Ratings has downgraded Nigeria’s Long-term foreign currency Issuer Default Rating, IDR, to ‘B+’ from ‘BB-’ and Long-term local currency IDR to ‘BB-’ from ‘BB’, but says the Outlooks are Stable. The issue ratings on Nigeria’s senior unsecured foreign-currency bonds have also been downgraded to ‘B+’ from ‘BB-’. The Country Ceiling has been revised down to ‘B+’ from ‘BB-’ and the Short-Term Foreign-Currency IDR affirmed at ‘B’. According to Fitch, the main factors that could lead to a downgrade are: A loss of foreign exchange reserves that increases vulnerability to external shocks; reversal of key structural reforms and anticorruption and transparency measures; worsening of political and security risks that reduces oil production for a prolonged period or worsens ethnic or sectarian tension, and failure to narrow the fiscal deficit leading to a marked increase in public debt. On the reverse side, the main factors that could lead to an upgrade are: A rise in non-oil revenues that leads to a reduction of the fiscal deficit and the maintenance of a manageable debt burden; A revival of economic growth supported by the sustained implementation of coherent macroeconomic policies, and increase in foreign exchange reserves to a level that reduces vulnerability to external shocks. Four Arrested, As Youths Accuse Him Of Diverting Relief Materials Accountant General’s Elaborate Wedding Rubs Off Workers Pay In what many people described as a show of shame, Borno State Governor, Kashim Shettima and one of his Commissioners on Wednesday threw caution to the winds when they engaged some street urchins in physical combat, before security men on his convoy came to the rescue by arresting all youths within the vicinity. Eye witness accounts revealed that trouble started when the boys, who were stationed in front of Governor Shettima’s Campaign Director, Babakura Shettima’s car mall on Kashim Ibrahim Way, started chanting unpalatable remarks, against the Governor, which seemingly angered him. According to them, the Governor had earlier passed the route on his way to inspect another set of relief materials donated to the state, and on his return, the boys stationed themselves strategically pointing fingers at his vehicle and accusing the Governor of diverting relief materials donated to the state by Aliko Dangote and some other donors. The Governor in turn ordered his convoy to turn and return to where the boys were, and decided to stop no sooner had they stopped than his Commissioner for Justice, Kaka Shehu who was driving in the vehicle with him jumped down and engaged the boys in fisticuff, following which security operatives had to come to the rescue, by whisking some of the boys away. Our correspondent who was trailing the Governor’s convoy reports that, the Governor had to be restrained from jumping out of the car to join his commissioner in beating up the boys, even as eye witnesses confirmed that two of the boys were arrested with bloody mouths after the beating. source: http://nationaltrailonline.com.ng/2016/06/14/gov-shettima-in-street-fight-with-urchins/ https://nationaltrailonline.com.ng/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/Gov-Shettima-300x162.jpg |
Alhaji Musa Iliyasu Kwankwaso, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Kano State, has revealed that the reason why the President Muhammadu Buhari-led All Progressives Congress, APC, couldn’t published names of those who returned looted money as demanded by most Nigerians was because majority of those who made the lists were from the party. Spiritual head of INRI Church, Primate Elijah Babatunde Ayodele has spoken of his revelations concerning the death of former Super Eagles coach, Stephen Keshi. Ayodele said he wrote Keshia personal letter after the South Africa 2013 Nations Cup campaign to intimate him of the divine revelations he got. “I have been in deep pains since I learnt of his death. Keshi was a soccer icon. He served Nigeria well both as a player and as a coach. I remember writing him a personal letter after the Nations Cup in South Africa and warned him to seek the face of God. He needed prayers and I told Nigerians then that Keshi has completed his assignment with the Eagles after the Nations Cup and that Eagles needed another coach to move forward.”“I have sent messages to the NFF and I hope they will listen. I have told them the Abuja Glass House needs some spiritual cleansing. On the Eagles, I have made it clear that what the Eagles need now is not a foreign coach. This is what God revealed to me. I m not saying it to attract publicity or for any financial gain. LetPinnick Amaju and his board look inwards for a coach. From what God has revealed to me, an indigenous coach will not only qualify the country for the World Cup but take the Eagles far in the competition in Russia. Bringing a foreign coach will be a disaster. They shouldn’t waste money on a white man.’’ “The crisis is not good for our football. If it is not resolved, everything will be at a standstill and most of those sponsoring the game will pull out. There will be no money in NFF and the country will stop doing well. I just hope the gladiators will seek the face of God and know that the country’s interest and that of our youths should come first.” Source : http://nigerianpilot.com/warned-keshi-primate-ayodele/ |
PRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari has ordered the drastic reduction in the number of national newspapers supplied to the Presidential Villa, Abuja. The restriction, evidence of the prevalence of the economic downturn, means that only few top officials of government are entitled to copies at the expense of the government. Nigerian Pilot Saturday learnt that supplies to the offices of the Chief of Staff to the president, the Permanent Secretary State House and the Deputy Chief of Staff were restricted to between one and four copies. Although when the directive was given isn’t clear, however its adverse effect on newspaper circulation in Abuja has been felt by media houses that now have huge additional unsold copies, some of which could have been supplied to the Presidency. As the All Progressives Congress, APC-led government at the centre, after one year in office, is losing grounds over failed campaign promises, comatose economy and security challenges, some politicians have started gearing up for the 2019 general election confident that the failure of the present government will create vacancy in Aso Rock presidential villa. A lot of politicians are already oiling their political machinery ahead of 2019 but they are keeping their plans close to their chest. The other day it was Senator Godswill Akpabio who was denying that he was not eyeing the presidency for 2019 even when some have started projecting him. The other day, it was Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State who was ready to swear even more than St. Peter, the apostle that he was not eyeing the presidency. Why were they are afraid and jittery about making their intentions known even if they had such intention? It is because, according to Nigerian factor, President Muhammadu Buhari is supposed to go for two tenures before he relinquishes power. More: http://nigerianpilot.com/can-pdp-rise-ashes/ |
