***His subterranean Refuge, And the worst Case Scenario. ***Worries Over Likely Reactions Worry Govt. ***Candidates' Strength By States Projection By: Politics Editor Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Presidential standard bearer of the All Progressives Congress, APC, is always confident of being the next President, no matter what people say about his chances. While keeping his game plans close to his chest, he tells all those that care to listen, that, all the other candidates are wasting their times. Even when people dismiss it as empty boast,Tinubu never hides his confidence in the face of occasional gaffes. There were Political permutations recently that actually predict a likely Tinubu Presidency in the next elections due to certain subterranean factors. Although analysts predict a runoff election in the 2023 Presidential elections, they failed to narrow down on the two likely contenders in the event of that. They mostly argue that, in the checkered history of Nigeria's democracy, the 2023 Presidential elections could be the most keenly contested and perhaps most difficult . John Hinckley, the man who attempted to assassinate US president Ronald in 1981 has been freed from custody 41 years after the incident. John Hinckley Jr., now 67, was found not guilty in the aftermath of the March 30, 1981 attack by a jury who declared him insane. He subsequently spent two decades in a mental hospital. In 2003, US District Judge Paul L. Friedman began allowing Hinckley to live outside the hospital with restrictions and by 2016, he was living in Virginia full-time. Friedman indicated last year that all of Hinckley’s restrictions would be lifted by June 15 if he continued to do well, and confirmed that judgement Wednesday. The judge said Hinckley shows no signs of active mental illness. “John Hinckley tried to kill the president of the United States. He came very close to doing so. We came to learn President Reagan was very close to death. James Brady was damaged for life,” Judge Friedman said Wednesday, according to WTOP. https://nationwidenews.ng/the-who-tried-to-kill-us-president-reagan-freed-41-years-after/ |

@NatureNews Africa A German-Madagascan expedition team in Madagascar has discovered a chameleon subspecies that is the size of a seed. The two of the tiny lizards were said to be the smallest reptile on earth, according to scientists. The male Brookesia nana, or nano-chameleon, has a body of just 13.5mm. This makes it the smallest of about 11,500 known species of reptiles, according to the Bavarian State Collection of Zoology in Munich. Its length from top to tail is 22mm (0.86in). A test of songbirds’ problem-solving skills has revealed how traffic noise impairs the animals’ abilities. Scientists set zebra finches a “battery of foraging tasks” in the presence or absence of the noise. They found that the sound of passing cars diminished the birds’ ability to find food. NatureNews examines the impact the reopening of the borders has had on rice price and production In August 2019, almost immediately after signing the African Continental Free Trade Area Agreement (AfCTA), Nigeria unexpectedly closed its borders against its neighbours. Nigeria’s president Mr Muhammadu Buhari said the action was to catalyse an auspicious rebirth of the economy, ensure food self-sufficiency, strengthen the porous borders and prevent smuggling of rice and other products into the most populous black nation. Since then, food prices unprecedentedly soared, reaching an all-time high of 18.3% while inflation in the country of the more than 200 million people rose to a three-year high of 14.9%, according to data from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS). The government promised that the closure would be brief and would be reopened before the end of the first quarter of 2020. It turned out to be an empty promise. During those times, the decision from the federal government was met with flak and furore from Nigerians home and abroad as well as relevant stakeholders in the ECOWAS community and neighbouring countries benefitting from trade relationship with Nigeria. @NatureNews Africa Recently, 10 persons were sentenced to two-month imprisonment in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State capital for indiscriminate dumping of refuse. Is this the best way of tackling environmental mess? Should state governments employ this way of dealing with residents who pollute the environment? In finding answers to these, NatureNews went to the streets in Abuja to guage people’s views. Uchenna Innocent, a businessman in karmu market Abuja: Living in a dirty environment is dangerous to health. There are many ways to caution and discipline people, not jailing them. Jailing them will not solve any problem. The government should make available waste bins on all streets and roads including market places as an easy way to dispose trash. Lovet Udofia: Jjailing people for dumping refuse won’t solve the problem. State and federal governments should provide general bins with strictly rules. Ajayi Ayomide a resident at Jabi Abuja: There should be officially designated areas with properly integrated waste management systems, which should be used for dumping refuse, rather than keeping someone away from their family for two months. Such won’t solve any problem. What is your Opinion ? You can read more here https://naturenews.africa/vox-pop-should-people-be-jailed-for-indisriminate-dumping-of-waste/ |

@Nature News Africa United Textile Limited (UNTL), the only textile company standing in Kaduna State appears to be on shaky ground with the disengagement of about 300 workers, which constitute 30 per cent of its staff strength. Dozens of textile factories have closed shop in Kaduna because of many factors, including an unfriendly environment occasioned by the dearth of equipment and cost of production. In March 2020, UNTL once again shutdown activities after a state-wide lockdown was imposed by the Kaduna State Government to curtail the spread of COVID-19 infection in the state. Nature News gathered that pressure from the National Union of Textile Garment and Tailoring Workers of Nigeria (NUTGTWN) compelled the company to recall its workers in the last few weeks, which sources said led to a “restructuring” process. @NIgerian Pilot Kogi State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Saka Haruna Audu has been accused of allegedly enriching himself through award of contracts in a company he has vested interest. This is contained in a petition addressed to Governor Yahaya Bello by an anti-corruption group, Coalition of Civil Society Groups for Transparency and accountability, which was made available to Nigerian Pilot yesterday. Convener of the group, Comrade Ibrahim Kabir Dallah, disclosed that the commissioner was using his office to gain advantages in award of contracts to companies that belong to his school mates and allies. The civil society group explained that the legal search on profile of two companies, AKH Premier Healthcare Limited and Marusa Integrated Services, have Dr. Musa Abdulkarim Omoniye, classmate of the commissioner, as director with majority share capital. Dallah further explained that the Premier Healthcare Limited has other four shareholders, and that Omoniye works with the Federal Medical Centre, Lokoja, as obstetrician and gynaecologist, a situation he noted breaches the Kogi State Government Policy and Mandate of Transparency, Accountability and Open Contracting as contained in the Kogi State Bureau of Public Procurement Act. According to him, the company, which was registered at the Corporate Affairs Commission, CAC, on March 14, 2008, has a share capital of N5million, wondering how such company could execute a contract worth N36million. The group also expressed concern that the commissioner was also involved in contract splitting where they discovered a business name that was registered under part "B" of the Companies and Allied Matters Act, 1990, as amended, a situation they alleged denied other limited liability companies during the symbolic bidding. The petition read in part: "We have proof of reasonable suspicion that the Commissioner for Health in Kogi State is in the corrupt and immoral business of circumventing all established due process in the award of contracts in order to award it to himself through a corrupt front, one Dr. Musa Abdulkarim who we have been informed is an obstetrician and gynaecologist in the service of the Federal Medical Centre, Lokoja. "Both the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Audu and Dr. Musa Abdulkarim, who is director in AKH Premier Healthcare Limited and the proprietor, Marusa Integrated Services, are classmates, close friends and associates. "These companies receive over sixty percent, 60 percent, of all the contracts in the Kogi State Ministry of health without any regard to Due Process and transparency. "The said companies which an official search have been conducted on are in breach of the Articles and Memorandum of Understanding of its registration. "But in one, out of the numerous jobs it has executed, it was awarded the contract of Supply of HIV Test Kits in the sum of N36,876,950 by the Kogi State Ministry of Health. "Other clear violation of the Kogi State Government Policy and Mandate of Transparency, Accountability and Open Contracting as contained in the Kogi State Bureau of Public Procurement Act exist, with regards to the extent the Commissioner can go to confer undue advantage to these companies which are not eligible to undertake government contracts over eligible ones. "These companies were registered as follows: AKH Premier Healthcare Limited in 2018 and Marusa Integrated Services in the same 2018. "AKH Premier Healthcare Limited is a limited liability company while Marusa Integrated Services is a business name. "They could not have done jobs in their years of registration, except in partnership with other companies. “Dr. Musa Abdulkarim Omoniye and his wife or close family member are directors in the AKH Premier Healthcare Limited and are proprietors of Marusa Integrated Services. Dr. Omoniye is a civil servant, being a staff of the Federal Medical Centre, Lokoja.” They further noted that the Commissioner therefore was in clear breach of the ICPC Act 2004 (as amended), as Section 19 of the Act states clearly that “any public officer who uses his office or position to gratify or confer any corrupt or unfair advantage upon himself or any relation or associate of the public officer or any other public officer shall be guilty of an offence and shall on conviction be liable to imprisonment for five years without option of fine. He is also in clear breach of the Code of Conduct Act and Public Service Rules,” adding that Dr. Omoniye on his part was in excess breach of both the Code of Conduct Act and the Civil/Public Service Rules. However, the commissioner could not respond to the allegations as his phone was switched of when Nigerian Pilot put a call to him neither did he reply text messages sent to him. On his part, Dr Omoniyi refused responding to questions thrown to him when he was contacted on phone the first time, saying he knew nothing about the issue, while on a second call he said he was driving and refused picking another call put to him hours later, neither did he respond to text messages also sent to him.

Before we examine the meaning of the word ‘xenophobia,’ let me state that the attack on Nigerians and other blacks by South Africans in that country is motivated by greed and petty jealousy against their fellow blacks, who, due to hard work and dogged determination, are doing better than them, in their own country. Another reason for the attacks is because South Africans know they can vent their anger on citizens of Nigeria and other African countries whose governments are weak, without any serious consequence; they cannot attack Americans, Germans, Chinese and nationals of countries with serious governments.
