namuguibe: My in-law was admitted in a clinic in Moyambo town but passed away. Yes it was Ebola. I do not need to go into details because frankly you are a block-head and so even if I present the information to you you will not accept or process it. You have decided (without any proof) that Ebola does not exist. You impersonate a respectable Nigerian ex General on Naira Land and you expect people to take you seriously? I think you are in URGENT need of medical care for your hallucinations and delusions. .China has send Ebola drug to Africa to help contain the spread of the virus.Read the full gist here: http://..nl/2014/10/i-hate-tiki-taka-style-of-footballit-is.html |

Nairaland General › Re: Okonjo-iweala, Africanfinance Minister Of Theyear-- AIM by wite111(m): 5:40pm On Oct 10, 2014 |
HonourablePomk: The Minister of Finance, Dr Ngozi Okonjo- Iweala, on Friday bagged the African Finance Minister of the year award for her outstanding performance as a finance minister. The award was presented to her by the African Investor Magazine on the sideline of the ongoing annual meetings of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in Washington DC. She thanked the organisers for the award and described it as an absolute honour and auspicious. She called on all investors in Africa to join the fight against the deadly Ebola virus disease that is ravaging some countries in West Africa. “What is happening in Liberia, Guinea and Sierra-Leone and the success we had in Nigeria and Senegal in containing this virus should not be allowed to set Africa back. “You as private sector and friends of Africa need to send the message that we should not be so afraid of Ebola that we stigmatise the whole continent. “I think that it is only with your own leadership, as African investors, that the rest of the world can see which way they should pass. So, I am really urging you to be ambassadors to the continent,” she said. Okonjo-Iweala said that in spite of the challenges facing the continent, African leaders should sustain the successes recorded in the past. These challenges, she said, include infrastructure, governance, poor education system, employment, corruption, among others. “We are not shying away from these challenges but the turning point now is that we are in the continent where we have the political will and confidence to tackle these challenges. “I think that we as Africans must always take the lead because if we don’t solve our problems, nobody can do it for us.” Okonjo-Iweala called for continuous partnership with the private sector, donor agencies and non-governmental organisations.

Politics › Re: My Endorsement By PDP Governors An ‘atomic Bomb’ – Jonathan by wite111(m): 1:16pm On Sep 19, 2014 |
unuane1: President Goodluck Jonathan said Thursday he was “humbled and overwhelmed” by the decision of his party, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to endorse him as the sole candidate for the 2015 election. In what appeared his first official remarks indicating an interest in a fresh tenure, Mr. Jonathan said he will not disappoint the party that trusted him well to offer the mandate, and promised to raise his performance if “re-elected”, according to the News Agency of Nigeria. Mr. Jonathan was reacting to his endorsement by the party’s National Executive Committee, NEC, the governors and the Board of Trustees, between Wednesday and Thursday. The NEC is the highest organ of the PDP. His endorsement by the party means no other candidate can seek the party’s nomination for the 2015 presidential elections. Mr. Jonathan said his endorsement by the governors in particular is like an “atomic bomb”. In his comments however, Mr. Jonathan refrained from formally accepting or rejecting the endorsement, apparently since he has yet to officially announce a bid for a re-election as Nigeria’s president. Mr. Jonathan said he would soon make a formal statement regarding his adoption by the party, and added that “the endorsement by NEC today caps it all and I remain most grateful”. “I am so overwhelmed that I lack the words to express my gratitude. I am humbled by the confidence reposed in me, and I consider it as a big challenge, and from now on, I will triple my efforts in order not to disappoint you,” he said. Boko Haram: Things will change by mid-October The president said tremendous progress is being made in the war against Boko Haram and promised his party members that victory is on the horizon. “God willing, between now and the middle of October things will change,” he said. Mr. Jonathan repeated his usual explanation of the insurgency, saying terrorism is a global challenge. “A meeting to discuss global terrorism will be discussed during United Nations General Assembly, and it will be chaired by US president, Barack Obama. “Initially, I planned not to attend the Assembly this year, and I was expecting either the Minister or Vice President to go, but I will be attending specifically because of the meeting on global terrorism,” he said. Nigeria is Ebola free Mr. Jonathan said the country has succeeded in taming the outbreak of Ebola in the country, adding that efforts are still in place to ensure that the success recorded is maintained. He said many countries were alarmed when Ebola was first reported in the country because, according to him “Nigerians travel a lot”. The president recalled that a UK diplomat once told him that the UK embassy in Lagos issues more Visa to Nigerians more than any other of their embassies in the world. “For that reason the world was alarmed when Ebola came to Nigeria. However, let me inform you all that presently, there is no Ebola in Nigeria,” he said. “We have also fortified all our legal entry points at the moment such that things like Sawyer will not come in again,” Mr. Jonathan said.

Literature › Re: Nairalanders Poor Reading Culture by wite111(m): 3:05pm On Aug 13, 2014 |
Bigdreams: Personally, I think Nairaland is a reflection of what obtains in the larger polity.
The recent results released by WAEC go a long way to reveal the already known fact that our level of education is nothing to write home about.
Rather than allow technological innovations improve them, a lot of teenagers and young adults of this present world have allowed them become the major determinant of their lives. Their attention span is very brief such that they move on to the next exciting thing - a phenomenon likely brought about by the abundance of entertainment in general.
It also goes to show that the reading culture is fast disappearing from our schools.
Way out?
- Our educational system needs to be revamped. - Parents/guardians have to play their part in monitoring their wards and inculcating good reading habits in them. - Individuals need to personally determine to improve themselves.
It might seem a herculean task but it's possible.
