Sybellah: Gnomi, personally i don't know how to make this, its a kind of patisserie, delicious! This looks like what we call masa in Nigeria. Its made from rice, corn or millet. Can be eaten with stew, yaji or groundnut and hibiscus leaves soup. |
@harem, thanks for the info. I will look for someone that lives in suleja to get it for me. Lokoja is about 3hours away from here. |
Please does anyone know where I can get "wara" in abuja? It can be either fried or fresh, I really need it urgently. Thanks |
Very interesting thread. |
Where are you based? |
Sybellah: is millet pap made essentially of millet and water, if yes this is what i called millet soup lool, i didnt know how to say it in english "bouillie de mil"Yes its made of millet, water and sometimes ginger. Millet is soaked in water for about 4-24hours, washed and grinded into a smooth paste. More water is then added and filtered with a cheesecloth. You can then prepare it like custard. |
Sybellah: i have to try it thenI'm not sure I've ever eaten the soup before but millet is used for a variety of dishes here. I'm sure it will be very tasty, I love millet pap with milk and sugar or with lemon and sugar. |
Sybellah: yesThe seeds are roasted like groundnuts. Hmmmn I'm just remembering all the Hausa snacks I ate while growing up. The seeds are really tasty with salt. |
Sybellah: ooo ok i cDo you have that in your country too? What do you do with it? We have it in Northern Nigeria, its called "KUKA" and every part of the baobab is useful to us here. The powder and seed is mostly eaten by children, the leaves for soup and the tree bark for medicines. I really enjoyed licking the white powder growing up. |
Fulaman198: We have it in Nigeria, Cameroon, Niger and Chad too, it's a Fulani drink (all West African countries you will find it in Fulani land). Is it like fura da nono? |
Fulaman198: Miyan Taushe or pumpkin soup, na Hausa dish what is the Yoruba word for it?I don't know if Yorubas have any groundnut based meal. Well maybe you can call it 'obe epa' |
Fulaman198: Miyan Taushe (pumpkin soup): Hausa dishTuwon masara is just maize flour and I think plantain tuwo will be tuwon ayaba (wink*). Lol! |
Black Kenichi: ^^^^^ Not bad!Same here, I just can't stand onions. |
Fulaman198: Correct that's the Hausa term for that, but it was brought to Nigeria by Fulani it is originally called Mafe.Wow! I never knew. I can't wait to make the soup, been dreaming about it since yesterday. |
Where are you located in abuja? |
https://img.over-blog.com/300x225/4/10/05/55/Cuisine/Cuisine-2627.JPG Is this not what Nigerians (Edos) call owo soup? Yam, somebody? Nice photos, btw . . .Keep 'em coming.
The soup is also prepared in some parts of northern Nigeria. Its called miyan geda. Its prepared with vegetables too and if dah or bissap( H. sabdariffa) leaves are added its called "miyan taushe" which is usually served with tuwon rice or masa. |

@meddler, I stay in abuja and I just decided to go natural. Last time I relaxed my hair was April. My natural hair is about two inches now and I'm really finding it difficult to comb. , like fulaman said, we are all eating the same things though they are named differently
, the powder we use it as snack, we can use it to make baobab juice, and some other kind of "bonbon glace"
we used to buy it at 25 cfa lool
