Politics / Time Up For Tinubu: Code Of Conduct Bureau Serves Summons On Bola Tinubu by woetooam4j: 5:21am On Sep 10, 2011 |
Corruption: Code Of Conduct Bureau Serves Summons On ACN Chieftain Bola Tinubu Posted: September 10, 2011 - 04:11 Bola Tinubu (pic courtesy of google) By Sahara Reporters New York Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, former Governor of Lagos State and leader of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), today received a summons from the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) to appear before it on 21 September. The summons, signed by the chairman of the Bureau, was dated September 6. It alleges that while Tinubu was governor of Lagos State, he contravened the Code of Conduct Bureau and Tribunal Act by operating several foreign bank accounts, between 1999 and 2007. In a response, Tinubu noted that “after years of threats, political mudslinging and media trial on the impending allegations, a formal invitation to commence trial has finally come,” and that he welcomed it in conformity with his respect for the rule of law calling on the judiciary to ensure that justice is done, he cautioned that at the CCB, “those who allege must prove.” The ACN leader said he welcomed the opportunity to put an end to years of insinuations, unproven allegations and politically orchestrated persecution. Tinubu’s summons dates from his second term as governor when a Joint Task Force (JTF) on corruption established by former President Olusegun Obasanjo indicted him as one of 15 governors to be arraigned under the Code of Conduct Bureau under the CCB Act. In addition to the CCB itself, the JTF included the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), the Department of State Services (DSS), and the Nigerian Police. Each of them had five members in the task force, which was led by the EFCC and chaired by Nuhu Ribadu. The JTF concluded that: • Some public officers had declared assets far above what they owned as their declaration could not be substantiated - a case of anticipatory declaration; • Some public officers did not declare some of the properties they acquired while in office; and; the issue of ownership of foreign accounts and late declaration had been treated with levity. As a result of these three conclusions, the JTF found that 15 State Governors, including Tinubu and Bayelsa State’s Goodluck Jonathan, who later the same year became the vice-presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, had individually contravened some of the provisions of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, especially on the issue of false declaration of Assets and or acquisition of properties outside legitimate means. The segment of the JTF’s report involving Tinubu was as follows: (15) BOLA TINUBU - GOVERNOR LAGOS STATE Substance of Charges (1) Operating and maintaining foreign accounts in his named and or his Company, compass Finance and Investment Ltd. with following particulars: I. NAME OF BANK: FIRST HERITAGE BANK, COUNTRY CLUB HILLS, ILLINOIS ACCOUNT NAME: BOLA TINUBU ACCOUNT NO: 263226700 II. NAME OF BANK: HSBC 177 Great Portland Street London WIW 6QJ ACCOUNT NAME: TINUBU ZAINAB ABISOLA (MISS) ACCOUNT NOS: 1720447101 IV. ACCOUNT NAME: OLUREMI SHADE TINUBU ACCOUNT NOS: 41421522 SORT CODES: 40-03-15. SaharaReporters has not been able to confirm if these are the charges that will be used against Tinubu, or whether there are other issues. We have also not been able to confirm why it has taken five years for today’s summons to be issued, or whether any of the others involved in the report have also been contacted. |

Politics / Re: Ovia, Otteh And Otedola Join GEJ Economic Team by woetooam4j: 9:13pm On Sep 09, 2011 |
Gbawe: I think you are getting it all wrong. Sanusi isnt part of the NEMT to my knowledge and he doesnt really have to be. Its like assuming that because Dangote and Otedola are part of the NEMT, then Adenuga would be part of it automatically. This is a specially created committee with little or no constitutional backing. The role of Sanusi as the CBN governor has the backing of the constitution. As long as he does his job there and Ovie doesnt stroll to the CBN at odd times, I see no problem. These are adults and I expect them to act like adults. |

AjanleKoko: ROTFL. I thought SEFAGO said only people with 2:2s go for masters and Ph.Ds? Why is he going against his belief? Kids of nowadays sha! I think he is still young to be doing his second Ph.d. He doesnt strike me to be that smart anyway. Not as witty or insightful. I think he is still on his first Ph.D. Or may be his second masters at some unknown college in the middleeast. They must have way too many toilets at Oando Oyb must be a really good cleaner then, to have excelled amongst so many excellent janitors. Impressive Oyb, keep it up! There are two people with First class on NL, JARUS AND BECOMRICHN! |
