Well, we should expect more of this. More ice are melting and sea level will keep rising. In 50 years many cities by the sea will have disappeared completely.

Very true. A past UNhabitat report identified some locations that would be taken by the sea by 2020. This is the result. Except we proactive actions are taken now, I hope people of Lekki_epe axis in Lagos and those buying lands there are ready, because the 2016 storm flooding is nothing compared to what's coming.

Watch Ready player one & Cloverfield paradox.

As for Avengers Infinity, you would truely enjoy it if you followed the story line from part 1: the incredible Hulk. If I'm not wrong, Infinity war should be part 16 in the Marvel comic universe.

As an extra recommendation, I'll suggest you watch "Gone girl".

You sure do deserve a standing ovation.

nannymcphee:

This is one verse that is not to be taken literally, its not different from when Jesus asked us to take out our eyes if they cause us to Sin!(Matt 5:29). Going by your assertion, I will take it that you are still a young person who haven’t seen much of life. MONEY DOES NOT ANSWER ALL THINGS Money cannot makeup for time lost or certain destroyed relationship.

Steve Jobs, President Yardua , our current President whose status is unknown etc had/has all the money in the world but did it answer their situation? Guess you will say that they didn’t know how to put the money to work

Act 8:18
Now when Simon saw that the Spirit was given through the laying on of the apostles' hands, he offered them money

Act 8:19
and said, "Give me this power too, so that when I lay my hands on someone he will receive the Holy Spirit."

Act 8:20
But Peter said to him, May your money perish with you because you thought you could obtain God's free gift with money

This Guy had money and he offered it but got rejected, so my dear when instructions are given in scriptures there are always exceptions and conditions to be fulfilled before it can produce results

I can add more scriptures to buttress the above point but the issue is how they go about it

1Co 9:13
Know ye not that they that minister about sacred things eat of the things of the temple, and they that wait upon the altar have their portion with the altar?

1Co 9:14
Even so did the Lord ordain that they that proclaim the gospel should live of the gospel.

1Ti 5:18
For the Scripture says, "You must not muzzle an ox while it is treading out grain," and "A worker deserves his pay."

please this isnt the only time you can give him something. if money is put into any envelope addressed to Pst Chris, the pastor of that congregation is obligated to send it up to his reporting line, and it will get to him

Herein lies the crux of the matter, the mentality and mindset of the teaching about money
The Bible is replete with admonitions/instructions to give and also the benefits of giving, it also shows the attitude we should have about giving.
when the principles for giving are violated, all forms of abuse and abnormalities will be birthed. This is the reason for all the stories of abuse in our churches. The summary for the Christian giving is embedded in

2Co 9:7
Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.

2Co 9:7
[Let] each one [give] just as he decides in his heart, not from sorrow [fig., reluctantly] or from necessity [fig., under compulsion], for God loves a cheerful giver.

But all we hear is “God loves a cheerful giver”. No one talks about the first part of let it be according to what you want to give or what you have planned to give.

In scriptures, Giving was primarily done for the saints but today, you folks have misconstrued it for projects and what have you

Act 4:34
For neither was anyone needy among them, for as many as were owners of lands or houses, selling them, they bore the value of the things being sold,

Act 4:35
and laid them at the feet of the apostles. And it was distributed to each according as any had need.

1Co 16:1
Now concerning the collection for the saints, as I gave order to the churches of Galatia, so also do ye.

1Co 16:2
Upon the first day of the week let each one of you lay by him in store, as he may prosper, that no collections be made when I come.

Rom 12:13
Distributing to the necessity of saints; given to hospitality.

In bible days, men sold their properties so that other believers can have, what we have today is giving towards "Mega church building", lavish lifestyle of the pastorate, expansion of the various churches etc

Anyone who says folks are not being forced to give in CE or that they care about the source of funds hasn’t woken up to the truth because they are so sunk into the whole thing that they don’t realize how lost they have become

In colloquial communication it is said that “Yansh nor dey hear e own smell”

Mat 16:21
From that time, Jesus began to show to His disciples that it was necessary for Him to go away to Jerusalem, and to suffer many things from the elders and chief priests and scribes, and to be killed, and to be raised on the third day.
Mat 16:22
And having taken Him near, Peter began to rebuke Him, saying, God be gracious to You, Lord; this shall never be to You.

Almighty Jesus was rebuked by Peter, one of his disciple but your Pastor Chris cannot be rebuked

You nor see say you don dey go?

Did peter call Jesus?

How come peter could rebuke Jesus?

You might want to argue that it was satan that spoke through him because of the next verse but that very act of Peter taking Jesus aside shows the kind of relationship they had, it shows Jesus leadership style. It wasn’t that of a Boss or dictator. They could have unbelief, they could have doubts, they could have questions and Jesus never killed them for having either of these human attributes

Gal 2:11
Butwhen Cephas came to Antioch, I opposed him to his face, because he was clearly wrong.

Gal 2:12
For until some men came from James, he was in the habit of eating with the gentiles, but after they came he drew back and would not associate himself with them, being afraid of the circumcision party.

Gal 2:13
The other Jews also joined him in this hypocrisy, to the extent that even Barnabas was caught up in their hypocrisy.

Gal 2:14
Butwhen I saw that they were not acting consistently with the truth of the gospel, I told Cephas in front of everyone "Though you are a Jew, you live like a gentile and not like a Jew. So how can you insist that the gentiles must live like Jews?"

How come Paul rebuked Cephas/Peter according to other translation?

Was he the one that called them?

A pastor is first a Christian before being a Pastor and its dangerous when a christain gets to the level where he cannot be corrected or rebuked.

With my own little understanding, when a man is getting married to a woman, he's not only getting married to that woman alone but getting married to the whole family, which implies that the bride's and groom's family have invariably become a family. Therefore, your younger brother or sister cannot go to the same family to pay dowry again nah cheesy

Remember we are talking about Nigerian tradition here, not a global standard

So what happens in the case of Twin males getting married to twin females? I have seen a couple of marriages like that here in Nigeria.

Politics / Re: This Is The Perfect Opportunity To Achieve Biafra: Why Is Kanu Unusually Quiet? by won91(m): 9:11am On Jun 12, 2017
Becareful what you wish for from a man like Nnamdi Kanu. He is gradually taking my eastern brothers down a path they don't want to go.

Nnamdi Kanu uses anger backed/hate inspired speech to push his agenda on the fault lines of tribalism and religious divide which is different from the Ahiara declaration.

The Op's post makes me question:

1. Does Nnamdi Kanu have logical strategies like the ones Op has outlined.

2. How many of our Ibo brothers understand what Biafra is about asides the desire to call Eastern Nigeria, Biafra.

3. How many of our Biafra agitators have gone through the Ahiara Declaration of 1969, that outlines the principles of Biafra.

Take-home: Nnamdi has started the fire. His silence now that wind has started blowing in the North only shows that Kanu will leave you all for dead when push comes to shove. And he present the dead as evidence to the international community.

By the way, while you die for him, Kanu would be somewhere enjoying his stacked Euro account. amassed as donations.

I wish everyone farewell in their endevor.

Lionessza I get your point.

Reading through you could decipher that the vast majority of persons have never been to your Country or had direct dealings with South Africans.Taking a wild guess, our dear OP belongs to this category. A lot of have formed opinions based on hearsay and what is available to them online which may not be a completely true representation of happenings on ground.

Unfortunately bad news sells and you can't blame people. Asides the negatives, ask how many persons here know the good stuff about S.A, tasted the local dish like pap & beef stew, enjoyed the clean air, experienced the night life or seeing a functioning municipal structure that cares for it's people or the sincerity between its citizens.

Answer: Very few.

Don't get dragged, dancing into the mud. There is a limit to how far you can reason with certain individuals. Beyond which silence becomes appropriate. In this case, Silence does not mean contempt but rather makes you the bigger person.

oh so you are completely aware that gender violence is a global phenomenon? There is no reason for a Nigerian to create a thread about gender violence in South Africa,we have platforms dealing with such.

In your heart you know very well OP didn't start this topic out of pure love and care as you can see the first three comments have nothing to do with the title of the thread, even if he did care why would he neglect his own and focus his attention on a country so far away from him when Nigerian women who are being tortured every minute need his help?

While I may not be able to tell the thoughts of the OP or original intent of his post, his opinions remain his and his only.

However I expected issues to be addressed in a more decent manner like rather than the hate banter from all parties, even if he did "neglect his own and focus his attention on a country so far away from him".

My point: we can all do better, address issues and argue constructively to the point of enlightenment (which I tried to emphasize in my first post). whether the OP may be educated, ignorant, educated and ignorant or whatever, we could correct his misconceptions and help others learn too.

Learning is only achieved if done the right way. And I'm sure it's not the way it's been done on this thread.

you never heard of men killing their partners in other countries?

Sure I have. These are notable example of men you know:
Herod the great who strangled his wife for suspected adultery, even though she was innocent of the charges
Emperor Nero who kicked his second wife Poppaea Sabina, to death after an argument.
Jesse Anderson who stabbed his wife to death, Barbara E. Anderson, thirty-seven times

Unfortunately, there are many more of such events happening by the minute, by the Hour. Nigerians have not be left out too.
http://saharareporters.com/2014/01/22/epidemic-nigerian-men-killing-their-nurse-wives-us-abiodun-ladepo

I expect you should have also heard of Uxoricide , Evolved Homicide Module Theory and its Psychodynamic theories?

Uxoricide (from Latin uxor meaning "wife" and -cide, from caedere meaning "to cut, to kill"wink is murder of one's wife or romantic partner. It can refer to the act itself or the person who carries it out.

These can be found along the lines of Forensic psychology and criminology.

For further reading, I would recommend looking up research work titled: Younger women incur excess risk of uxoricide by stabbing and other
hands-on killing methods

Hold up everyone, what's with the resentment behind the keyboard?

Let me get this. A brother asked a simple question based on an observed trend, backed it up with data from news & other media sources (credible or not, its still data). Just a straight forward question that deserved a straight forward answer or be completely ignored. And my goodness has it gotten to this level.

Please lets drop the stereotype of "Foreigners Come to steal our girls", "Lazy South Africans", "419 Nigerians" etc. Am not denying they don't exist, but it would be an extreme bias to judge an entire population based on the misgivings of a few lot. Every society has issues it deals with. Hence, no society is the Utopia of social norms and values and human behaviour.

As for the main deflection point so far "anything South African concerns them", I had always thought the reasons for forums like this is to discuss, share knowledge and get enlightened, resolve issues, etc. Just to point out, the world is a global village, so are the issues concerning it. I guess that is the reason we all are here.

Once again, It's just a straight forward question that deserved a straight forward answer or be completely ignored.

Business / Re: CBN Officially Devalues Naira by won91(m): 4:09am On Feb 26, 2015
aguiyi:

anuofia, simple economics you don't know yet you will be typing trash every now and then on topics that are way beyond your mental capacity.

demand and supply is what determines price in a free market.

have you asked yourself what Nigerians are doing with the US dollar that has made it so scarce that the price is heading north.

has it become our legal tender or we are experiencing an artificial scarcity created by those who have an agenda.

suddenly in this period of election the dollar is no more available. the naira started losing its value when the abokis gave their brother licence to buy and sell other currencies on the streets.now they are hording it creating panic in the process.

we no longer import much of rice
we no longer import cement
we no longer import much of cars

what then is the new line of business that is drying up the available foreign currencies. those who stashed the green back in their house with the hope of releasing them when their candidate wins election are only fooling themselves because they will regret it with the new policy that is coming.

that is how they intend to stabilize the naira

Dear Aguiyi,

Nice reply. As much as you listed things we do not import, lets not forget that a major factor of production is energy in form of (petrol, kerosine & diesel). I sang this song few weeks a go that the CBN is broke, so the naira would be devaluated again to save face and prices would sky rocket. Please give it just 2~3months before you start seeing the effects of true hardship.

Simple scenario:
An oil marketer importing petroleum products obtained a credit facility of $2million when the official rate was #155/1$ a few months ago. Now the naira has been devalued twice to #199/1$. By this devaluation, (#199- #155) x $2000000= loss of #88,000,000 to start with.
Who pays for this difference, its the common man on the street.

As we all know, we are an import dependent nation. Apply this simple scenario to all imports and major industries like Cadbury, Nbc, Nestle, etc who import some of their raw materials.

My fear is a lot of Nigerians dont have a complete understanding of what is going on. The currency has been devalued but salaries still remain the same with pending inflation in a few days. Market Prices have not changed yet because a lot of retailers are still selling old stock. If things continue like this, then we are done for.
