FULL TEXT OF PROSTATE HEALTH AWARENESS LECTURE

MEN MUST READ

Gentlemen,

I am here to speak with you on Prostate. The topic is misleading. Is prostate strictly for men? Yes, ONLY men have prostate and ONLY men over 40 years but the healthcare enlightenment is for everyone. There is no woman who does not know a man 40 years and above, father, uncle, brother, son, friend, neighbour, colleague...

Essentially what I will be doing today is health promotion. Responsible health promotion must provide three things:

1. Information
2. Reassurance
3. A plan of action.

Let me start with a background on prostate health.

Everyone has a pair of kidneys. The job of the kidney is to remove waste. It is the LAWMA (waste management company) of your body. Everyday your blood passes through the kidney several times to be filtered. As the blood is filtered, urine is formed and stored in a temporary storage tank called the urinary bladder.

If there were to be no urinary bladder, as a man walks on the road, urine will be dropping.

Now think of the plumbing work in your house. Think of the urinary bladder as the overhead storage tank. From the storage tank, a good plumber will run pipes to other parts of the house, including the kitchen. God in His wisdom ran pipes from our urinary bladder to the tip of the penis. The pipe is called the urethra. Just below the bladder and surrounding the urethra is a little organ called the prostate gland.

The prostate gland is the size of a walnut and weighs about 20grams. Its job is to make the seminal fluid which is stored in the seminal vesicle. During sexual intercourse, seminal fluid comes down the urethra and mixes with the sperms produced in the testicles to form the semen. So semen technically is not sperm. It is sperm + seminal fluid. The seminal fluid lubricates the sperm.

After age 40, for reasons that may be hormonal, the prostate gland begins to enlarge. From 20 grams it may grow to almost 100 grams. As it enlarges, it squeezes the urethra and the man begins to notice changes in the way he urinates.

If you have a son under 10, if he has a little mischief like we all did at that age, when he comes out to urinate, he can target the ceiling and the jet will hit target. Call his father to do same, wahala dey. His urine stream is weak, cannot travel a long distance and sometimes may come straight down on his legs. So he may need to stand in awkward position to urinate.

Not many men will be worried their urine stream cannot hit the ceiling. Toilets are on the floor and not on the ceiling. But other symptoms begin to show.

TERMINAL DRIPPLING:

The man begins to notice that after urinating and repacking, urine still drops on his pants. This is the reason why after an older man urinates, he has to ring bell. A younger man simply delivers to the last drop and walks away. Just see an older man coming from the bathroom. Sometimes he may clutch the newspaper closely to hide the urine stains, particularly on plain colored trousers.

HESISTANCY

At this point you wait longer for the urine flow to start. There are 2 valves that must open for you to urinate – the internal and external sphincters. Both open but because of obstructions in the urethra, you wait longer for the flow to start.

INCOMPLETE EMPTYING

You have this feeling immediately after urinating that there is still something left.

As all these things happen, the bladder begins to work harder to compensate for the obstruction in the urethra. The frequency of urination goes up. Urgency sets in. Sometimes you have to practically run into the toilet. Nocturia also becomes common. You wake up more than 2 times at night to urinate. Your wife begins to complain.

Men being men may not talk to anyone even at this point. Then the more serious complications start.

Stored urine gets infected and there may be burning sensation when urinating.

Stored urine forms crystals. Crystals come together to form stone either in the bladder or in the kidney. Stones may block the urethra.

Chronic urinary retention sets in. The bladder stores more and more urine. The size of the bladder is 40 - 60cl. A bottle of coke is 50cl. As the bladder stores more urine it can enlarge up to 300cl. An overfilled bladder may leak and this leads to wetting / urinary incontinence. Also the volume may put pressure on the kidney and may lead to kidney damage.

What may likely bring the man to hospital is acute urinary retention. He wakes up one day and he is not able to pass urine.

Everything I have described above is associated with prostate enlargement, technically called benign prostate hyperplasia.

There are other diseases of the prostate like:

1. Prostatitis – inflammation of the prostate

2. Prostate cancer – cancer of the prostate.

This discussion is on prostate enlargement.

I have bad news and good news.

The bad news is that everyman will have prostate enlargement if he lives long enough.

The good news is that there are life style changes that can help the man after 40 to maintain optimum prostate health.

NUTRITION

Look at what you eat. 33% of all cancers, according to the US National Cancer Institute is related to what we eat.
Red meat everyday triples your chances of prostate disease. Milk everyday doubles your risk. Not taking fruits / vegetables daily quadruples your risk.

Tomatoes are very good for men. If that is the only thing your wife can present in the evening, eat it with joy. It has loads of lycopene. Lycopene is the most potent natural antioxidant.
Foods that are rich in zinc are also good for men. We recommend pumpkin seeds (ugbogulu).
Zinc is about the most essential element for male sexuality and fertility.

Men need more zinc than women. Every time a man ejaculates he loses 15mg of zinc. Zinc is also important for alcohol metabolism. Your liver needs zinc to metabolize alcohol.

ALCOHOL CONSUMPTION

As men begin to have urinary symptoms associated with prostate enlargement, it is important they look at alcohol consumption. More fluid in means more fluid out.

Drink less. Drink slowly.

EXERCISE

Exercise helps build the muscle tone. Every man should exercise. Men over 40 should avoid high impact exercise like jogging. It puts pressure on the knees. Cycling is bad news for the prostate. We recommend brisk walking.

SITTING
When we sit, two-third of our weight rests on the pelvic bones. Men who sit longer are more prone to prostate symptoms. Do not sit for long hours. Walk around as often as you can. Sit on comfortable chairs. We recommend a divided saddle chair if you must sit long hours.

DRESSING

Men should avoid tight underwear. It impacts circulation around the groin and heats it up a bit. While the physiological temperature is 37 degrees, the groin has an optimal temperature of about 33 degrees. Pant is a no - no for men. Wear boxers. Wear breathable clothing.

SMOKING

Avoid smoking. It affects blood vessels and impact circulation around the groin.

SEX

Regular sex is good for the prostate.

Celibates are more pronenn to prostate illness. While celibacy is a moral decision, it is not a biological adaptation. Your prostate gland is designed to empty its contents regularly.

If our leaders in Nigeria, provide the basics necessities of life, there will be little or no kidnappers. If our economy is working, and there are jobs, there won't be beggars to invade them on our roads. If they make our roads motorable, there won't be so much avoidable accidents. So the bottom line is our leaders in Nigeria are just wicked and corrupt. Shame on them, and Nigeria's politics.

Even as a politician, if your hands are clean at all times, you don't need to be scared of death. Do as the constitution entails, provide the basics necessities of life for your citizens as enshrined in the UN chatter. Don't intimidate or oppress your political opponents. Allow state institutions to operate and function independently, guarantee safety of lives and property. Finally, let every citizen feel a sense of belonging as a stakeholder in the government.

This is Netherlands prime minister MARK RUTTE. He goes to work on bicycle from his home. Rides with ordinary citizens on the same road without escort. He even takes pictures with them on demand. His office is always open to visitors at all times.

Now the big question is, can a local government chairman in Nigeria do this? Talk more of a governor or even the president.

WHEN THE RIGHTEOUS RULES, THE PEOPLE REJOICE.

Although he is not in Nigeria for now, I will still keep his real identity private. This soldiers happens to be my secondary school mate back then.

He was very stubborn and has physical strength to fight. A very good boxer and martial artist. His academic performance was very poor, hence when i was heading for the university, he enlisted into the Nigerian Army as a recruit. According to him, he felt the Nigerian Army is an avenue to showcase his strength.

After training in Kaduna, he was retained in that state. Because of his physicality and strength, my guy was quickly noticed and selected for foreign peace keeping mission in one of the African countries.

But the irony of it is, they never informed them before that day, no message to his family or friends about his peace keeping mission. According to him, we obey the last order.

FamilyThe Secret Behind My Grandfather Living Above 100 Years. by wrightangle83(op): 11:06am On Aug 17, 2018
I was a teenager in 1993 when i had this interaction with my grandfather, who is now late.
He is a good story teller, who can confide you to your seat with good stories and history. We were too fund of him, hence we call him (opu dede) meaning, the oldest elder among his siblings.

He was very strong and healthy at time, that he even visits us alone in port Harcourt once every three months from Bonny.

He likes soft drinks/mineral a lot (coke, fanta or sprite) He refers to them as Miriam. If you want him to tell you stories or history, just go with a bottle of fanta to his room. He will impact you with undiluted knowledge.

There was this particular day we traveled to visit him in our village. While interacting with him, i asked him this question. ( THE SECRET BEHIND HIS OLD AGE) he looked at me and smiled, he then asked me to follow him inside his room. When we got inside, he told me that everyday he spends on earth, his just grace. Because he has reached the bus stop, waiting for the bus to arrive. But that the secret behind his old age, is to having a spirit of letting go, even when you are 100 percent sure of yourself.

He told me that, if i want to live long on earth to his age or even beyond as a man. I should learn from these words. That for every cemetery you see, out of every 100 graves of men there, only 5 or a little above 5, died of natural causes. That 95 or more died because of the following.

(1) money
(2) women
(3) land
(4) power

That those are the fundamentals of life, which one cannot live without, but if it goes your way, don't let it get to your head. And if it doesn't go your way, always have the spirit of "let go" even when you are too sure.

The big question is, are these still applicable in our modern day world today? We now have terrorism, religious killings, ethnic and tribal killings, sicknesses here and there, natural disasters as a result of climate change,

Please i need answers!!!!

CultureThe Wodaabe Wife Stealing Festival by wrightangle83(op): 3:10pm On Aug 15, 2018
The Wodaabe tribe is a Fulani tribe in Niger, West Africa. The males in the tribe are regarded as very vain because they believe that they are the most handsome set of men and they always carry mirrors.

In the Wodaabe tribe, people are given in marriage in infancy and the women can have as many sexual partners as they desire before marriage.

In the tribe, marriage is always contracted in infancy, and the women can have as many sexual partners as they desire before marriage.

The tribe holds an annual festival called the Gerewol during which men dress elaborately, wear make-up and hold a beauty pageant of some sort. During the festival, men dress to impress the wives of other men.

The culture believes that beauty can be judged by the whiteness of the eye, the firm straight bridge of the nose and white teeth. Therefore, the make-up done is to accentuate these features.

Before the festival begins, it takes the men six hours to prepare and get ready so they can dance and show themselves off.

They paint their faces with red clay, use eyeliners to make their eyes appear whiter, and wear a shade of lipstick that will make their teeth appear whiter. They also wear white ostrich feathers in their hair making them appear taller.

During the festival, three of the tribe’s most beautiful women are chosen to judge as the men display through a dance, moving in circles.

Other women, already wives of other men, admire the men they most desire to choose as their second husband. If a man successfully steals a wife without being caught, the man automatically becomes her husband and the union is accepted.
The tribe is a polygamous one hence the wife stealing is widely accepted. In spite of this, some men do not wish their wives to be stolen, and so do not allow them to participate in the festival.

SportsWho Is Alphonso Davies? The Canadian Teenager Bayern Beat Out Europe's Best To B by wrightangle83(op): 7:11pm On Aug 06, 2018
Bayern's $13.5 million signing from MLS is a teenager with the talent to make an immediate impact with the German champions

There probably weren't too many Bayern Munich fans who knew much about Alphonso Davies when the German champions signed the Canadian teenager, but the $13.5 million acquisition was definitely known by the long list of European powers that tried to buy him.

The 17-year-old speedster became the most expensive transfer in Major League Soccer history when Bayern Munich signed him on July 25. Bayern beat out a host of rivals including Real Madrid and Manchester United to land Davies.

So who is this youngster that had so many world powers eager to sign him? Davies is a fast, strong and versatile prospect with the tools to be special, a player who has made a meteoric rise in the past year after making the jump from promising youth prospect to teenage sensation scoring goals for club and country.

Davies' story began in a refugee camp in Ghana, where he was born to Liberian refugees fleeing the violence in their native country. His family made its way to Canada when he was five years old. Davies emerged as a prodigious talent in the Edmonton youth soccer ranks, and soon drew the attention of the Vancouver Whitecaps academy. Davies joined the Whitecaps academy at the age of 14 and immediately established himself as a special talent. So special, in fact, that he turned pro just a year later, first signing with the Whitecaps second team before signing an MLS contract that made him the third youngest player in league history.

The Whitecaps took their time with Davies, purposely keeping him away from the media and bringing him along slowly as a first-team player. He gained experience in USL with Whitecaps 2, but admits to having felt eager to break into the Whitecaps first team sooner than he wound up appearing.

"As a player you want to play every single game, and every single minute," Davies said. "I think now I can see that. When I was 15, 16, they put me in little by little, I can see now at the end of these two years that it has come along beautifully and they handled things the right way."

The Canadian national team wasn't quite as patient, with then-coach Octavio Zambrano identifying Davies as a special talent well before he gained his Canadian citizenship.
"I knew from the moment I was assigned the national team that Alphonso was a priority," Zambrano told Goal. "Behind the scenes I knew there were processes in place for him to get his citizenship, but I was adamant about him getting it prior to the (2017) Gold Cup."

Zambrano flew to Vancouver to see Davies with the Whitecaps, and the trip only served to reinforce what he already believed: Davies was a generational talent for Canada.

"One thing is to see him on video, but when I saw him alive and up close I knew he was something special and I immediately began talking to the federation president about his citizenship process and where he was at," Zambrano said. "Once I had him in camp, it confirmed everything that I thought about him."

Zambrano wasted no time integrating Davies into the Canadian setup after he secured his citizenship, and Davies rewarded the decision by scoring two goals in his first start for Canada, on the way to winning the Gold Cup's Golden Boot at age 16.

That performance served notice around the globe that there was a Canadian prospect worth seeing, and scouts began showing up at Canada and Whitecaps matches to see what the fuss was about.

As impressive as he looked in 2017, Davies has made a clear leap in 2018, playing with more confidence and developing into the kind of player capable of single-handedly terrorizing opposing defenses.

"You watch him play and he has the ability to take over a game." Sporting Kansas City defender Graham Zusi told Goal. "You've see him do that this year several times already, and then you remember he’s 17 years old. I’ve seen him grow in just half a season. You can see that he’s almost become a leader on that team, which isn’t something you see often from a 17 year old, and that’s what has impressed me the most."

Like Zusi, Portland Timbers star and reigning MLS MVP Diego Valeri has watched the teenager's growth as a regular opponent, and most recently as Davies' teammate at the MLS All-Star Game.

"You can see that he’s mentally very mature," Valeri told Goal. "As a 17-year-old, the way he plays is like a 25-year-old. In just one season he’s a very different player and that says a lot about his mentality."

Davies is playing with a new level of confidence in 2018, and his stunning performance shortly after signing his deal with Bayern Munich — which saw him score two goals and deliver two assists in a Whitecaps win — show a player who isn't letting the extra attention negatively impact his game. If anything, it is helping Davies.

"As a soccer player you want to perform, whether it’s in front of 72,000 or even 1,000," Davies said. "You always want to be your best because you never know who’s watching."

While Davies might be seen as more of a long-term investment by Bayern, he has the speed and attacking qualities to potentially contribute right away when he joins the German champions in January. He has watched fellow North American teenagers and U.S. national team midfielders Christian Pulisic and Weston McKennie make their marks in the Bundesliga, and believes he could hit the ground running in Germany.

"Watching those players perform in the Bundesliga is eye opening because they’re not that much older than me," Davies told Goal. "And me going over there I just want to play the game."

Before he does that, Davies must finish out his current season with the Whitecaps. He doesn't turn 18 until November, which prevents him from being able to play for Bayern before January. Once he gets to Munich, Davies will look to his power and attacking skills to earn minutes right away. It will be up to Bayern manager Niko Kovac to figure out where to use Davies, who has played as an attacking fullback, winger and forward as a pro.

Regardless of where he winds up playing, those who have watched Davies blossom believe he could be the next North American teenager to shine in the Bundesliga.

"[Davies] can play any position because he’s a footballer," Zambrano told Goal. "He’s really and truly a kid with the soccer sense to know what to do wherever he’s at on the field. In that sense, in the football sense, he can play any position, but where he can be the most effective and he can be more productive is in the last third.

"He could play in the back, he could play in the midfield, but a kid like that you want up front because he’s going to find his way to the ball and he’s going to score."

It is a general believe that the worst civilian administration is 100 times preferable to the best military government (DEMOCRACY). But despite this notion, Nigeria's national assets in the past were solely conceived, initiated, completed, and also well managed by different past military rulers. The most amazing things about it all is, under these military dictators Nigeria assets operated on optimal capacity, and were a source of pride to our beloved nation.

Since the 1999 the struggle of our past military rulers has been brought to ruins by our so-called civilians and democrats that where expected to do better.

Here are few pictures of some Nigerian assets in ruins. Fellow nairalanders, feel free to add up yours with pictures.

Fellow Nairalanders of faith, this question has been bothering my heart for a very long time now, so i decided to bring it to this platform for better clarification.

CAN THE LORD FORGIVE THE DEVIL IF HE CONFESSES HIS SINS AND REPENTS FROM HIS EVIL WAYS.

This question came into my heart after reading the books of Roman chapter 10:9 from the Bible KJV.

That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be.

If PMB feels that he has performed better in terms of governance and electioneering campaign promises, If he also feels that he is still well loved, accepted and popular among the Nigerian voting population, if he believes that he is irreplaceable come 2019 because there are no better candidates than him. He should man up, and assent to that election re-odering from the National Assembly. Because it means little or nothing to his political ambitions. Moreover as a popular candidate and the only righteous man out of the over 180 million Nigerians, which his supporters claim he is. He doesn't need the help nor support of any national assembly member to actualize his dreams come 2019 because the masses are in his side.

ABI NA BY FORCE TO MARRY? The national assembly members wants their own political space. They are tired of this force merger of presidential and national assembly elections by INEC. Aspirants want to test their own popularity in their senatorial districts and federal constituencies as individuals, rather than hanging on the popularity of either their parties or it's presidential flag bearers.

A single election day for our national assembly will cost this nation nothing too much to sacrifice. It will also help in improving our electioneering systems, by making it more transparent.

If PMB refuses to assent to this election re-ordering, then Nigeria is heading for a political stand still. Because the national assembly members are not ready to back down on this request.

A CLEAR CONSCIENCE FEARS NO ACCUSATION.

5 EPL teams made it to the round of 16, but it is so unfortunate that only one will make it to the semi final. See three Spanish avoiding themselves like disease and cancer.
