Nollywood actress Ibinabo Fiberesima is to be remanded at a clinic in Kirikiri Maximum Security Prison until Thursday, April 2, 2009. This was the ruling of the presiding Judge, Deborah Oluyemi, at the Lagos High Court, on Monday,

Ms. Fiberesima was reportedly brought to Court from Hospital in Port Harcourt Where she was receiving treatment.

Kemasuode Wodu, the former counsel to the actress, withdrew from the the case. He said he was not in the right frame of mind to countinue because of newspaper publication he had read which said he disobeyed court orders and quote the judge as saying, on March 24 that he was a disgrace to the legal profession.

Another lawyer, Fred Agbaje, took over as the new counsel to Ms. Fiberesima. The jugde, however, read the court proceedings from that date to prove that she made no such statement.

The actress, who is also a mother of three, has been on trial since 2007 for dangerous and reckless driving, which led to the death of Suraju Giwa, a medical doctor.

On february 20, 2009, The Lagos State High Court overruled the Initial Judgement of the Magistrate Court and Sentence Ms. Fiberesima to five years' imprisonment without the option of a fine. She was not taking to prison immediately because she was not in court at the ruling;she was said to be ill and in hospital.


Ms. Fiberesima was in court on Monday, wearing a black blouse, a white scarf and brown and black skirt. She looked frail, but stood for over an hour during the proceeding.The actress was in tears for most of the period.

Other actress, relatives, and friends were in court to support her and shielded her from the press.
