1000WaysToLive: Ok. I take back what I said about Sony selling Spider-Man, but outside Spider-Man, Sony really don’t have much going for them.
They’re pretty lacking overall of reliably successful IP.
Men In Black flopped, so did Ghostbusters(it’s a coin toss if the reboot this year will be successful) and they don’t have Bond anymore. Not to mention Charlie’s Angels was a massive failure.
Jumanji is really all that they have outside Spider-Man. Last year was a pretty good year for them since Brightburn and Once Upon In Hollywood, and of course Jumanji performed well, and thanks to Disney/Marvel’s help they managed to get a movie that to the billion dollar finish line with Far From Home but doesn’t escape the fact they don’t have much going for them in terms of major franchises at the moment.
Compare that to Disney which has had an embarrassment of riches when it comes to big IP that consistently delivers even outside the MCU. They have Star Wars & Pixar which you can make dozens of movies out of and literally made them billions of dollars, and even their live-action remakes like Lion King and Aladdin have been incredibly successful and also joined the billion dollar club. A.) Bro, it's not about grossing billions, it's about making Profit. Grossing billions doesn't mean a movie makes high profit, as a matter of fact a movie that didn't gross billions may be more profitable than a movie that crossed one billions. Take for instance; * Joker is the most profitable Comic book movie. It made more profit than Endgame that grossed $2.7b despite it grossing $1b. ** WB rarely gets billion dollar grosser movies yet they are among the top 3 largest movie studios in the world, why? because they make profit. *** Disney had loss this year which they blamed in Dark Phoenix (which is ridiculous) despite all the billion dollar grossing movies they had, why? less profit, why? because billion dollar grossing doesn't necessary mean high profit. B.) MIB franchise isn't a failure. Because a movie in a franchise didn't gross high doesn't equate to that franchise being a failure, heck Solo: A Star War Story underperformed, did/ does that mean that the star wars franchise is a failure, of course not, so that's the same case with MIB. Besides MIB 4 isn't a failure, it was profitable, although little turning in $260M against a Break even point of $230M, that's a gross profit of $30M altogether. The MIB Franchise is still a hit Franchise, all it needs is proper handling from Sony. Tick Tock. C.) Sony has a lot of Franchise to work on, this include 1.) Sony Marvel Universe, that started off with Venom and continues with Venom 2 and Morbius. 2.) The Spiderman Franchise, this include both live action and animation, remember into the spiderverse 2 is in development. 3.) Valient Cinematic Universe (from Valient Comics) which will be properly lunched if Bloodshot becomes a success. I pray it does because I want the DCEU and MCU to have a competitor. It gonna make the CBM world a competitive one. 4.) Sony Pictures Animations which include Hotel Transylvania, Open Season , Surf's Up, Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs, The Smurfs (via Peyo ), Peter rabbit. 5.) MIB 6.) Jumanji 5.) Other Franchises which includes The Karate Kid, Ghostbusters, Stuart Little , Men in Black, Underworld , Robert Langdon, Sniper, Charlie's Angels, Bad boys among others. Some of this franchise may not be hit, that doesn't mean they can't, all they need is proper handling and development. So Sweetheart, you saying Sony doesn't have Franchises to work with isn't true, not at all. D.) If you are looking for Disney to buy Spiderman from Sony, then bro, you have to wait till when Nairaland buys Facebook which of course is impossible. Sony can never sell Spiderman not in this age of CBM boom. No reasonable company will do it. Rather they will seek to acquire more which is what they've done with Valiant comics (film rights). Beside, for Disney to buy Spiderman, they have to buy Sony Pictures which won't be happening if not impossible. Sony is among the Big five movie studios in Hollywood and also among the top 6 largest movie studios in the world. They are no small company. We are talking about Sony Motion pictures, a subsidiary of Sony Entertainment, a subsidiary of Sony Corporation, a Japanese mega conglomerate, that's not Disney's mate. Sony pictures is a big one for Disney. They have the financial strength to stand on their own. It's not all companies Disney can buy and Sony just like WB and Universal is one of them. If Disney could buy Sony they would have done it a long time but they can't, so the highest they could do is going into partnership with them for Spiderman which Sony is still making shakara . E.) I drop my pen at this Juncture. #Xavier. #I_Am_A_DCian |

Let this Martin Scorsese gut make a movie has half as good and successful as endgame and he can make a statement against MCU. Below are the awards won by Martin Scorsese film, THE IRISHMAN at the Golden Globe Awards. Can you say same for Endgame and the Russo Brothers winning any Major Award so far. hulk616: Shazam budget is 150M So it was a failure Between you and Nigerian politicians, I wonder who manipulates figures more. And as for the issue of comic book sales, we all know there have never been any total dominance or control by either DC or Marvel. Both brands are deeply in a tug of war or tight competition trying to beat one another but the fact is, such never led to any total dominance or control by any of them. The case is always "the i beat you today, you beat me Tomorrow" scenario. That's why DC tops Comics book sales this month, next month Marvel tops, it's really a tough battle between both brands. For Example: DC topped Comic Book sales in May with DCeased #1. DC had six titles in the May Top 10 including Geoff Johns and Gary Frank's Doomsday Clock #10 at #2 and Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo's Batman: Last Knight on Earth #1 at #3. Marvel had four titles in the Top 10, including Gerry Duggan and Mike Deodato Jr.'s Savage Avengers #1 , ranked #4. https://www.newsarama.com/45491-may-2019-comic-book-sales-charts.htmlWHILE In November, Marvel topped Comic Book Sales with The New Mutants https://www.newsarama.com/48162-november-2019-comic-book-sales-charts.htmlNo one OUT DOs the other for a very long period of time e.g like a year. It's very rare. So in the aspect of Comic Book Sales, There is no total dominance or control by either DC or Marvel rather what we have are comic book dominance by both brands collectively and a very strong competition between them both. So there is nothing like dwindling Comic Book Sales for DC, they made lots of sales in that category heck, Marvel also had their moment of dwindling Comic book sales. #Xavier. #I_Am_A_DCian. |

hulk616: what about failure Shazam and hell kitchen and low comicbooks sales Keep living in your "SHAZAM IS A FAILURE" Delusion. SHAZAM Budget: $100M Gross: $364M Break Even Point: $250M Gross Profit: Gross - Break Even Point = $250M - $364M = $114M. Net Profit: Minimum of $50M So that's a failure to you..... For take it further, here is a screenshot from Wikipedia. The only failure there is The Kitchen but hey Dark Phoenix bombed like the the big bang and it's own is even worse because it's a movie about popular/ huge characters, team and story. But you know what WB didn't blame The Kitchen's failure for it's quarterly loss unlike one entertainment company like that located in Burbank, California that blamed Dark Phoenix for it's quarterly failure (Pun Intended).

IAmSabrina: I just noticed that The Licensing Letter updated the retail sales chart:
This is probably the first time Spider-Man is not #1. In merchandise retail sales, Spidey was the leading superhero character worldwide, beating out the Avengers, Superman & Batman.
2017: 1. Spider-Man, 2. Avengers, 3. Batman. 2016: 1. Spider-Man, 2. Avengers, 3. Batman. 2015: 1. Spider-Man, 2. Avengers, 3. Batman. 2014: 1. Spider-Man... 2013: 1. Spider-Man...
Cc. MJBOLT, Vic2Ree, AfricaGalactic, hulk616 et al Good news for Avengers, Spiderman and Batman. Raking in enough money for their various companies and someone out there is saying I shouldn't create and own my own Comic Book Universe. Walahi, e go happen |

Raalsalghul: This Maxima as a villain would have made a lot of sense. The only drawback is that she's not that mainstream. In fact, I just heard about the character today and had to go do a quick google search. There are some CBM villains that weren't known but were still used in a movie and the movies were hit e.g Obadiah stone/ ironmonger in iron man, Ivan Vanko / Whiplash in iron man 2, Aldrich Killian in iron man 3, Killmonger in black panther etc So I don't see why Maxima can't be used, besides using her is gonna make her known. |

Kaycee7: Maxima and the love triangle would work as a secondary/side plot in a movie. There's no way it works as the primary plot of a cinematic movie. If properly written and executed, it will be a good primary plot. |

Minemrys: maxima u mean? She's an alien. That story w0n't work. At all. It's usually a cw storyline. Make u ma check am na. Superman in a love triangle? Haba. But she could work in a suicide squad film. It Will. Such story is gonna be something different from what we've seen in a Superman film. This will be a way to explore Clark Lois relationship. Being an alien doesn't mean she can't be attracted to Superman (which is what she does) beside Superman himself is an alien who is attracted to Lois Lane, so that alien excuse doesn't add up. Maxima has occasionally serves as an adversary for Superman, so I don't see any reason why she can't be the villain. Her story will take us away from the conventional Superman vs world destroying villain story we are used to, it will be more of a threat on Superman's private life which will be costly anyways because her means of carrying out her ambition on Superman will be highly deadly, a means that might/ will surely put Lois Lane and if care is not taken Martha, in danger because she is gonna employ all means necessary including threat, brute force, blackmail. A movie like this will not be about Superman saving the world from threat rather it will be about Superman saving his private life and love ones from threat. This will be Superman version of Batman Hush. It will be a highly romantic, love, emotional and of course action packed movie. Such a movie will be epic, something different from the conventional Superman movies we know and seen likewise CBMs just like THE JOKER. Me personally will be interested to see a movie with such a story. We've seen how Superman can handle pressures from the public, media and villains, it time for us to see how the man of steel can handle the pressure of being in a love triangle. |

Minemrys: am n0t talking abt superman going after shop lifterz or bank robberz. There are crimes such as kidnapping, human trafficking, terrorism, weap0ns sale etc. Imagine villains such as intergang featuring bad guys like metallo, parasite, at0mic skull at the helm of it with granny go0dness, there's a story and acti0n there. M0st stories featuring , has her kidnapping and trafficking children to train for darkseid, and also has her selling apokoliptian tech to criminals. U can start with that and have lots of fight scenes while the relati0nship btw lois and clark and their job is explored. Or maxima, a lady who is obsessed with Superman because of his power and her nag for male superbeings as mate. Using her is actually going to place Clark in a love triangle, on one hand is Lois Lane, Clark's sweetheart and on the other hand is Maxima, a super powered female obsessed with having Superman as a mate and is willing to do anything to get him even if it means harming Lois Lane. A story like this will explore the Love story of Clark and Lois while also featuring Superman take against an obsessed villain. A movie like this will be a Romance and Action packed CBM. Something different from the conventional CBMs. |
