Who would want to see a sequel to Titanic? There's something you don't get, some stories are best left in the minds of audience to imagine or live with. Do you think Romeo and Juliet will have stood the test if Shakespeare had written a sequel?
All stories fit into that description. Audience imagine or live with stories when there's no continuation of the story, since the story's sequel isn't in existence, they imagine or live with the imagination of how it would have been, I call it IMAGINATIVE CONTINUITY. But make the story and see how they will discard the imaginations and embrace it. It's simple psychology.

What you need to know about sequel is, it's not about making the sequel but how you make the sequel. It all boils down to creativity.

Yes, they're exceptions where certain movies can't have sequel and that's in the case where the main characters are dead or old, otherwise, there is no movie you can't make a sequel to, so far it doesn't fall into the exception category.

Titanic can't have a sequel because it falls into the exception category, it main characters are dead and aged (I take back my words on the possibility of a sequel for it) neither can Romeo and Juliet
BUT
Joker deserves a sequel because Joker isn't dead or aged, but the thing is, how well will it be done? That's left for WB/DC.

My issue with WB. They are so greedy. They really should think of making a brand with DC character study separate from the dceu instead of trying to milk from Joker.
Sweetheart, greediness runs the movie industry and the business world as a whole. So?? ? ??

Talking about brand in character study CBM outside DCEU, I SUPPORT. They can do that while doing a Joker franchise besides a Joker franchise is also a character study.

I say they milk the mother fvcking IP. What is it there for if not to make money for them.

This should be a one off. It's obvious this is being made just for the money. They should go for another character study on someone else, say Luthor or Riddler. I keep saying this, an Eobard Thawne film will make real money and will be something new.
isn't everything in the movie industry about money? Joker has potentials for a franchise, why limit when you can explore. Why not cash in.

Supported that they need to explore other characters but nothing in space and time stops them from doing that why doing a joker franchise, it's an unrestricted sphere, and good for business especially HBO MAX (not for Joker releases)

Bro, I disagree. There loads of movies that don't need sequels and there are those that need one. A lot of films have been ruined by sequels that weren't necessary.
As I said before, there is no movie that doesn't need a sequel and there is no one that needs it. It's all about the film maker. Everything boils to creativity. It's an unrestricted sphere in the movie/ creativity industry.
As a writer, if you ask me to write a sequel for Titanic, I can. You may ask how? This is where creativity comes in, but the thing is I won't because I don't want to stress my brain except the Mula is bank breaking grin
Even matrix trilogy is getting a sequel trilogy, so?? ? ??
It all boils down to the film maker and creativity
The problem with sequels is all about one doing it well. That's just the problem. I hope Joker is done well.

Idea sounds good. But problem is can they match or surpass the original movie?

If the sequel is greatly inferior to the original them it's useless and dampens Joker the movie significance.
As I said, till then
BUT
The odds for the sequel being better is high
1.) WB/DC has a lot at stake if the movie turns out inferior but a lot to gain if it turns out superior.
2.) WB/DC will be seeking to surpass the mark set by the Joker in it's sequel.
3.) WB/DC will be seeking to establish a brand especially for their DC films
4.) Todd Philips himself said he will be back for a sequel if and only if the script is good, and if he's back (probably), then that's a good omen

But as I earlier said, till then

There is no movie that doesn't need a sequel and there is no movie that needs a sequel, everything boils down to the film maker. It's all about creativity, being able to come out with ideas, in this context, ideas of or for a good story. So here is the catch, will the sequel story be good or bad?................................. Till then
BUT
Joker has a good ground for sequel(s). Will love to see a sequel where Joker rises to power in Gotham, after that, will also love to see sequels where Joker fights to maintain his supremacy in Gotham against oppositions especially Raalsaghul.

Joker has potentials for a FRANCHISE.

dude my issue started when he said Sony has nothing going for them .he also went further to say that they run the risk of getting gobbled up by Disney...I'm just here trying to debunk that..did you see me compare movie slates between the 2 companies?
Bro this guys (1000WaysToLive and IAmSabrina) are just misunderstanding us and misinterpreting everything thus causing confusion.

The issue isn't about who is big between Disney and Sony which of course we know it's Disney, rather the argument is about if Sony has franchises to work on or not which of course they have both successful and unsuccessful including a Comic book shared universe (Sony Marvel Universe) and a potential one in Valient Cinematic Universe, that's if Bloodshot is a success.

As for the issue of Sony standing on their own, of course they can and will,

1.) they are financially stable besides they have back ups from their father (Sony Entertainment) and grandfather (Sony Corporation)
2.) Sony has and is turning in profit both from their franchises and original standalone movies.
3.) They have Franchises (both successful and unsuccessful) to work on, not also forgetting original standalone movies.
4.) They've got Spiderman (film rights), which is part of multiple franchises e.g MCU, into the spiderverse, Sony Marvel Universe, animated series etc
5.) Sony pictures won't be sold at least not now because
* They making profits
** They're a ground for Sony Corporation to have their share of Hollywood's cake.
*** They've got Spiderman (Film rights). Sony Corporation won't wanna lose that Money Making Machine, so they won't sell Sony pictures because selling it means goodbye to Spiderman rather what they will do is to acquire more rights (just as we've seen in Valient Comics [Film Rights]) and back up Sony pictures financially.

I drop my pen at this juncture to be taken up by anyone out there.

I was already planning to put you and pu7pl3 on ignore but I still can see your posts when I log out and you're intentionally misrepresenting my argument here.

While I will no longer respond to either of you, I need to clarify that I never really made the argument that Sony wasn’t successful because of a lack of billion dollar movies.

The whole point of me mentioning Disney live-action and Pixar movies reaching a billion dollars was to illustrate how much more successful Disney is in comparison to Sony, as well as illustrate just how much Sony are intrinsically at a disadvantage when it comes to reliably big successful IP.

They really don’t have much on their plate in the arena. Why is Disney the most successful movie studio for so many years now? ==> https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.hollywoodreporter.com/amp/lists/studio-by-studio-profitability-ranking-disney-surges-sony-sputters-977497

See the attached image or view the link itself.

The answer lies in them having the most biggest IP at their disposal that consistently deliver great results.

You are using my initial post to try and make a bigger point about profit vs box office like anybody here doesn’t have a basic understanding of how box office works.

SMH
Bro, I never said Disney doesn't have successfull franchises or isn't a successful company or isn't bigger than Sony Pictures, as a matter of fact, I stated that in one of my replies to you.

But what made me to go into this argument is where you said Sony unlike Disney doesn't have Franchises to work on aside from Spiderman and Jumanji, I had to reply you to inform you about the franchises Sony has aside from Spiderman and Jumanji, including a Comic Book Shared universe (Sony Marvel Universe) and a potential one (valiant Cinematic Universe).

Next, you said Sony doesn't have succesful Franchises to work on aside Spiderman and Jumanji, which is where i opposed you again by showing successful franchises Sony has which includes Sony Marvel universe, Peter rabbits, MIB, Hotel Transylvania etc likewise a potential one in Valient Cinematic Universe which is only if and only if Bloodshot becomes a success which I pray it does.
As for the non hit Franchises, Sony has to handle and develop them properly, if that's done, then they will become hits. That's what they need.

So as you can see, Sony has franchises both successful and unsuccessful ones to work on.

Another Issue is where you implied in your post that Disney's Franchises are successful because they gross billions whereas Sony's isn't because of the opposite, I had to reply you on that to tell you that billion dollar grossing doesn't necessarily equate high profit and I gave instances with Joker, Endgame, Star wars: The force awakens, Aquaman, BvS, Wonder Woman etc and also included the fact that Disney incurred loses in their third quarter after have $9b+ from six movies.

So I don't see why you are trying to make me the MISTAKEN one here where as you are actually the one MISTAKEN. Tick Tock.

I REST MY CASE BEFORE THE JURY OF THIS HONOURABLE THREAD. THIS IS THE LAST TIME I WILL REPLY YOU ON THIS. I CAN NOT COME AND BE ARGUING FOR THREE DAYS OVER SIMPLE MATTER LIKE THIS, MBOK.

First of all we are not talking about the suit not having error neither are we talking about the suit being perfect rather we are talking about the suit being nice although imperfect. The suit doesn't have to be badass and superbly awesome, just nice, nice oh, nice.

So I ask a again, if Barry have the brain to piece a suit together why can't he have that same brain to make it nice.

Bro, Flash's suit was Terrible because Zack Snyder wanted it to be and not because he doesn't have the resources to make it so. Heck, even Star Labs with all their resources still made a terrible suit for CW flash, what about Ava in Antman and the Wasp, that unstable lady, she also had a suit that was built for her by the Government but guess what the suit was terrible but Spiderman in Rami and Webb duology had a good suit even they/ he made it by themselves/ himself. So you see why I don't buy your logic
BUT
I get it that was the story Zack Snyder was trying to tell which is flash suit being terrible because he built it by himself and that Bruce Wayne will give him a better one. I know, I was just pulling your legs, I love doing that a lot, just taking you for a ride bro.

But all in all, Flash suit was terrible in Justice league not because of LACK OF RESOURCES but because of CHOICED STORYTELLING.

Spiderman in the rami and Webb trilogy and duology respectively, made their suits by themselves and guess what it was good while the CW flash suit that was made by Star Labs doesn't even make sense. See why I don't buy your logic.

So I ask again, if he is able to piece the suit together with his brain why couldn't he make the suit nice with that same brain?

The news y'all have been waiting for
I wanted to say this is bad news but when I saw "A different version of Flashpoint", I calmed down. It's not gonna be flashpoint but something similar to it but of course it should also be an origin story, you can't bring flash into the dceu in his solo movie without telling or showing us his origin (dceu's version), they did that with Superman, wonder woman and Aquaman, Shazam even after we know their origin most especially Superman, Flash case shouldn't be an exception. This could be the way they want to softly reboot the dceu although I prefer the retcooning pattern. Just retcoon BvS, Justice League and Suicide Squad to other realities (Dimensions, multiverse, timelines) while MOS, WW, Shazam, Aquaman continue in the main dceu's canon. But anyway, anything that works should be applied. Tick Tock.

And one more thing, they should change flash suit in Justice League, it's terrible, annoying and creepy.

Context please. Again

I meant what I said in the sense that if you add the the percentage they take from box office revenues with the ancillary revenue sources derived from these films, it's definitely in the billions.

Yes I understand how the business of film works, but they still make more overall profit then other studios becuse of the IP brand of these films and the fact they make less films overall (spend less).

You said, "Disney had a loss in it's third quarter despite having a revenue of $9b+ from six movies (excluding frozen 2, maleficent 2, star wars 9), that's huge. Blaming fox properties and the acquisition of Fox which occurred in March 2019 is ridiculous. Revenues from those movies should have covered up that loss but no it didn't, why? because they didn't make high profits to do so."

They gave investors a reason (among others) why they fell below Wall St. esimates for the quarter...one of those films on the Fox slate was Dark Phoenix, which underperformed even the lowest expectations. They basically told everyone they were not in control of the development or production of those films to ease any negative market sentiment about the Fox purchase.

It was a factor among factors, I just don't get the reason to get up in arms about that statement when it was obvious that Iger was underscoring that point for the bigger picture of Fox moving forward. Anyway, it's all good.
If they made billions as you claim, then they wouldn't have made that loss in the third quarter. So you are trying to tell me that $9b+ from six movies is not enough to cover up loses if billion dollar grossing means high or billion dollar profit? bro that's ridiculous, the only way that's possible is if the profits from those billion dollar movies are not high to cover up the loses, which then streamline everything down to the message I've been trying to pass accross, "Billion dollar Grossing or high grossing doesn't necessarily equate to high Profits. Because a movie made billions in revenue doesn't necessarily mean that it made high Profit, that's why Disney still incurred that lose despite the fact that they had those billion dollar grossers even before the end of the third quarter. Get my message clear, billion dollar grossing or high grossing doesn't necessarily equate to high profit, Endgame vs Joker, BvS vs Wonder Woman etc are there for references and instances. Take for instance, Aquaman grossed $1.148b but had a net profit of $260.5M (only, fear catch me. This is almost the same with wonder woman which turned in a profit of $252.9M against a revenue of $821.8M, now you see, Wonder Woman didn't gross a billion yet it's profit is at the same range with the billion dollar grossing Aquaman), Star Wars: The Force Awakens grossed $2.068b but had a net profit of $780M (I know that's huge but when compared to $2.068b gross, that's not too good, so the profit was not even in billions, where did the rest of the money go to?). From those grosses people will be screaming WB and Disney, this this that that money money billions billions grin grin grin grin grin, but in true sense, they do not know that's not how it is.

All this argument started when you said Sony doesn't have any franchise to work on or doesn't have successfull Franchise simply because they are not billion dollar grossers like Disney. Below is the comment by you

Ok. I take back what I said about Sony selling Spider-Man, but outside Spider-Man, Sony really don’t have much going for them.
They’re pretty lacking overall of reliably successful IP.
Men In Black flopped, so did Ghostbusters(it’s a coin toss if the reboot this year will be successful) and they don’t have Bond anymore. Not to mention Charlie’s Angels was a massive failure.
Jumanji is really all that they have outside Spider-Man. Last year was a pretty good year for them since Brightburn and Once Upon In Hollywood, and of course Jumanji performed well, and thanks to Disney/Marvel’s help they managed to get a movie that to the billion dollar finish line with Far From Home but doesn’t escape the fact they don’t have much going for them in terms of major franchises at the moment.
Compare that to Disney which has had an embarrassment of riches when it comes to big IP that consistently delivers even outside the MCU. They have Star Wars & Pixar which you can make dozens of movies out of and literally made them billions of dollars, and even their live-action remakes like Lion King and Aladdin have been incredibly successful and also joined the billion dollar club.
I had to reply you to tell you that Billion dollar grossing doesn't necessarily equate to high profit and non billion dollar grossing doesn't also necessarily equate to low Profit, and not only that I also showed you that Sony has a lot of Franchises to work on, hit ones inclusive, they don't necessarily need to be billion dollar grosser, all they need is to be profit making machine whether billion dollar grossing or not, Tick Tock. That's the argument, I hope you understand that.

They missed estimates on their quarterly earnings and the performance of the Fox slate was one of the legitimate reasons they gave Wall St.

It was context for the business world, not intent to rile up insecure fanboys.

It certainly wasn't the best quarter, but they beat estimates the following one.

As I said in my post to dragonking, stock up 36% on the year and about 60 billion added to their market cap the last 12 months. The other media companies can only dream of that.

As for Sony, nothing against the company personally, I'm just not wrapped up in their slate.
Bro, my reply was in response to your logic that billion dollar grossers equates high profit that's why I had to quote you in contradiction. Below is the statement from you.

Blaming fox properties and the acquisition of Fox which occurred in March 2019 is ridiculous. Revenues from those movies should have covered up that loss but no it didn't, why? because they didn't make high profits to do so.

I know they're lots of factors to be considered when it comes to profit and loss ish in a company e.g Disney+, expenditures, tax, revenue from subsidiaries, acquisition of properties etc, that I know and understand but with a revenue of $9b+ from six movies, such shouldn't have occurred, the revenue should have covered up or made up for it but they couldn't because they didn't make high profits to do so.

But I'm happy that Disney were able to make Profits in the next quarter, besides Disney has a lot of hit and profitable franchises with them e.g MCU, Star wars, Avatar, Pirates of the Carribean, Frozen, Toy story, Ralph, Croods etc

But one thing we need to understand is that, billion dollar grossing or high grossing doesn't necessarily equate to high profit. When I personally discovered that, I stopped bothering myself on how high a movie grossed or if it grossed billion dollar to what profit did it make in terms of gross and net.

PS: I have no issue with Disney and Marvel, common, why should i? besides Spiderman is my 2nd favorite comic book character after Batman.

Wow. The trolling is real. Holy shit grin grin.

The day Sony sells Spider-Man will be the day they admit defeat as a studio. Its literally the only IP thats making them money. Jumanji is not a sustainable franchise. And Venom 2 will underperform compared to the 1st one and Morbius is going to straight up flop. Does sony pay you per post? cheesy
Bro, Sony will not sell Spiderman to Disney, not in this age of CBM boom, rather than selling they will rather acquire more which is what they've done with Valiant Comics (Film right). Nairaland Will have to buy Facebook first before Sony sells Spiderman to them. The only way Disney can get Spiderman as their own is of they but Sony and that's not happening at least not now, Sony is no small company and they have the financial strength to stand on their own.

I can see that you are one of those people who thinks that making billion dollars equates to profit, no bro it doesn't. It's not about how high you gross but how high a profit you make. Take Joker and Endgame as a case study, Joker is the most profitable CBM, more profitable than Endgame (which is the highest grossing CBM), if billion dollars equates high profit, Endgame should have been but that's not the case, another example is that of BvS and Wonder Woman, BvS grossed higher than WW with $873.6M against $821.8M but WW was more profitable turning in a profit of $252.9M against BvS's $105.7M. There you have it high gross it billion dollar gross doesn't equates to high profit.

With all the billion dollar gross, Disney still made loss in it's third quarter, why?

Bro, you saying Sony doesn't have any Franchise to work on is totally false, they have

1.) Sony Marvel Universe, which came into existence despite all odds against iit.News flash, Venom 2 and Morbius will be successful whether any fanatic out there likes it or not. Nothing is stopping them, they couldn't stop Venom, they can't stop this ones.
2.) The Spiderman Animated Franchise, don't forget into the spiderverse 2 is in development, another hit for Sony.
3.) Valient Cinematic Universe (from Valient Comics) which will be properly lunched if Bloodshot becomes a success.
4.) Sony Pictures Animations which include Hotel Transylvania, Open Season , Surf's Up, Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs, The Smurfs (via Peyo ),
6.) Peter rabbit, which is a hit.
5.) MIB, this is also a hit franchise MIB franchise isn't a failure. Because a movie in a franchise didn't gross high doesn't equate to that franchise being a failure, take Solo: A Star War Story in the Star Wars Franchise as an example
6.) Jumanji, another mega hit franchise for Sony.
5.) Other Franchises which includes The Karate Kid, Ghostbusters, Stuart Little , Men in Black,
Underworld , Robert Langdon, Sniper,
Charlie's Angels, Bad boys among others.
NOTE: Some of this franchise may not be hit, that doesn't mean they can't be, all they need is proper handling and development, Tick Tock.

So bro, contrary to what you think, Sony have lots of franchises to work on, likewise some hit franchise also.

And one more thing, Spiderman isn't leaving Sony, not any time soon at least.

PS: Between me and you, who is trolling. I only stated things the way the are, can you say same for yourself.
