mankan2k7: It is very unfortunate being a Nigerian Yes, your government tries to stop pouring money down the drain and the public create an uproar. It's not just the government that is corrupt, but also the population. The landing cost, i.e. the cost to get it into Nigeria, is ₦171/l, the government sells it at ₦145/l exactly who do you think pays the ₦26/l in the middle? |

Harrynight: "Insisting that independent marketers would not be able to import the product at the current foreign exchange rate, saying the marketers were able to sell for N145 per litre when the exchange rate was N285 per Dollar. The Naira presently exchanges for N365 per Dollar."
Oga minister stop talking trash... when $ xhange rate was N450-500/Dollar we were still buying fuel at 145 And oil was at $38/bbl as opposed to $62/bbl.And you were subsidising it through your taxes. |

Na their usual pattern na. The government are not putting the price of up. They are stopping artificially holding the price down. Also - if you ever find yourself quoting David Icke, you're out of your depth. |

smulti: have heard of what is called chain reaction in economics
every other commodities will also increase
transport fare Rents price of food clothing air time phones
every other services will increase while salaries remains the same . This is true only for countries in which petrol is unsubsidised. If petrol is subsidised, the money that the government spends to reduce the cost at the pump is taken from taxation, so the net cost to the economy is unchanged. Except that people with uneconomical cars and trucks would no longer be subsidised by those who have efficient cars, motorcycles or do not drive. Just because the price goes down at the pump, you still pay through taxation and in loss of funds for roads, electricity or education. |
Politics › Re: I Need Your Thoughts, Are We Headed Towards A Population Crisis? by Xevioso: 11:09am On Jan 05, 2018 |
Sabergol99: This topic is usually one avoided by eminent members in our society and even scholars owing to our religiously conservative cultures and traditions. Children are often seen as a blessing for both Christians and Muslim which increases fertility amongst the groups. Also, with high illiteracy levels in some parts of the Country, Uncontrolled births are sure to be the order of the day. However, I feel we must be truthful to ourselves before it becomes too late. Nigeria is not necessarily a big country in terms of land mass, (13th biggest in Africa, 31st largest in the World) But we are one of the most populous (largest in Africa, 7th in world). What this means is that with increasing population, density becomes higher along with competition (as is presently happening today) Land becomes more scarce, Per capita income decreases, Unemployment increases - and with a teeming youth population like ours could mean disaster. Our health care system becomes overstretched, local demand increases, causing an overexploitation of natural resources, Forests depleted Are just some of the vices associated with Uncontrolled population growth. Before you give me the China and USA example of populations similar to ours, you might want to look at the facts critically. China, the world's most populous Country with about 1.3billion people is TEN times the size of Nigeria In terms of land mass. Even at that, the communist government had to place severe restrictions on population growth in order to forestall a population crisis. Today China is better for it as the Human developmental index remains the fastest growing in the world. The USA is also TEN times the size of Nigeria, but with a population of just 320million people. It is predicted that Nigeria would overtake the U.S in population by 2050. We must learn from the Bangladesh and India population crisis examples before we repeat them. Then again, maybe it's just me being paranoid. Your thoughts please.. . No a population crisis is just a crisis of water, food or energy, which Nigeria is fundamentally already in the throes of. If energy, water and food are sufficient there is no crisis. |

ilynem: I have to say I laughed at you post. Thanks for the advice tho. But the thing is, Jesus taught it and lived it also. For example when they came to arrest him and peter cut off the ear of a soldier, he healed that soldier. A man who came to arrest Him! So let me ask you. Why do you think Jesus life is not to be emulated? Did He do anything evil during His time on earth? Two things, 1) he didn't - the only claim you have that he did is in a book given to you by the people who came to enslave you. That's equivalent to me saying "Why shouldn't I live like Harry Potter? This book is proof of his work!" 2) You should live like anyone who lives well. You could live like Madiba. You could live like Martin Luther King. You could live like Alexander Fleming. You could live like Medecins sans Frontières who heal ISIS and Boko Haram Soldiers who try to kill them. There are countless real, documented examples of people living well with and without God. Why do you need an excuse to respect your fellow man? |

ilynem: But...Jesus gave that exact same rule. Love your neighbors as you love yourself. Are you saying I should follow Jesus' teachings?? Follow the teaching, not the teacher; Saddam Hussein taught his kids to brush their teeth. |

ilynem: People have invested their entire life in a particular faith. How do you feel when someone mocks what you genuinely love? Just because you feel God doesn't exist does not mean others don't have personal relationship with Him. You can call it delusion but for them it is real. So I advise people not to mock anyone's God or belief but engage in intelligent debates (ya! It is possible to debate without being sly or trying to be funny).
PS: even when you mock God, you know the funny thing? He still loves you. Pay no mind to those who say He will punish you. Nah! He actually still loves you. He still doesn't exist. |
