Politics / Re: Why Tinubu Is Best For Nigeria by Xigima: 9:46am On Dec 02, 2021
Like seriously, this undue victimization of TINUBU has to stop. He is just as qualified and eligible as any other politician to aspire to be President of our great country. I grew up in Lagos and I know for sure the quality of his mentorship of Lagos speaks volumes for him. He mentored Fashola, Ambode, Sanwolu, Osibanjo, etc and all these people are seen to have supplied sterling performances. This is all I think is required to determine who can lead us or not.

Whoever made Lagos the money spinner that it is today deserves to be listened to, or better still, given a chance at the national level. It is more than clear, that the myriad of JEALOUS people who dont want him to achieve this are fighting tooth and nail to make things tough for him. But I really dont see him backing down. I really dont.

By the way, the LIVABILITY of a city is highly subjective so any mushroom blogger can come up with any list he likes. It still does not change the fact that the economy of Lagos is far higher than that of many West African countries. Who made this so ? BOLA TINUBU ! That's why I also see the guy taking Nigeria places if allowed to.

Crime / George Floyd: SHOCKING! The Police Cop Who Arrested Floyd Is NIGERIAN (Photos)!! by Xigima: 6:14am On Jul 02, 2020
The FBI has just released more details about ALEX KUENG, the half cast police officer who was the first to get to the scene of the George Floyd saga and who was actually the one who arrested George Floyd and got him out of his car. His mother is White American and his dad was a Nigerian !

https://www.nytimes.com/2020/06/27/us/minneapolis-police-officer-kueng.html

MINNEAPOLIS — There were two black men at the scene of the police killing in Minneapolis last month that roiled the nation. One, George Floyd, was sprawled on the asphalt, with a white officer’s knee on his neck. The other black man, Alex Kueng, was a rookie police officer who held his back as Mr. Floyd struggled to breathe.

The arrest of Mr. Kueng, whose mother is white and whose father was from Nigeria, has brought anguish to his friends and family. “It’s a gut punch,” Ms. Kueng said. “Here you are, you’ve raised this child, you know who he is inside and out. We’re such a racially diverse family. To be wrapped up in a racially motivated incident like this is just unfathomable.”

Two of Mr. Kueng’s siblings, Taylor and Radiance, both of whom are African-American, called for the arrests of all four officers, including their brother. They joined protests in Minneapolis.

Mr. Floyd, whose name has been painted on murals and scrawled on protest signs, has been laid to rest. Mr. Kueng, who faces charges of aiding and abetting in Mr. Floyd’s death, is out on bail, hounded at the supermarket by strangers and denounced by some family members.

Long before Mr. Kueng was arrested, he had wrestled with the issue of police abuse of black people, joining the force in part to help protect people close to him from police aggression. He argued that diversity could force change in a Police Department long accused of racism.

As hundreds of thousands of people demonstrated against the police after Mr. Floyd’s killing on May 25, Mr. Kueng became part of a national debate over police violence toward black people, a symbol of the very sort of policing he had long said he wanted to stop.

Derek Chauvin, the officer who placed his knee on Mr. Floyd’s neck for more than eight minutes, has been most widely associated with the case. He faces charges of second-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter; Mr. Kueng and two other former officers were charged with aiding and abetting the killing. At 26, Mr. Kueng was the youngest and least experienced officer at the scene, on only his third shift as a full officer.

In a Facebook Live video, Taylor Kueng, 21, appeared with the head of the local N.A.A.C.P. to speak of the injustice that befell Mr. Floyd, acknowledging being related to Mr. Kueng but never mentioning his name.

Mr. Kueng’s sister Radiance posted a video of Mr. Floyd’s final minutes on Facebook. “Just broke my heart,” she wrote. In an interview, she said that as a black man, her brother should have intervened. She said she planned to change her last name in part because she did not want to be associated with her brother’s actions.
“I don’t care if it was his third day at work or not,” she said. “He knows right from wrong.”

When Mr. Jones’s mother died in 2008, Ms. Kueng took him in for as long as a month at a time.
By high school, Mr. Kueng had found soccer, and soon that was all he wanted to do. He became captain of the soccer team; he wanted to turn pro. The quote next to his senior yearbook picture proclaimed, “We ignore failures and strive for success.”
Mr. Kueng went to Monroe College in New Rochelle, N.Y., to play soccer and study business. But after surgery on both knees, soccer proved impossible. Mr. Kueng quit. Back in Minneapolis, he enrolled in technical college and supported himself catching shoplifters at Macy’s. By February 2019, Mr. Kueng had made up his mind: He signed up as a police cadet.

Ms. Kueng said she was nervous when her son wanted to become a police officer because of concern for his safety and the troubled relationship between the Minneapolis police and residents.Credit...Victor J. Blue for The New York Times

In December, Mr. Kueng graduated from the police academy. For most of his field training, Mr. Chauvin, with 19 years on the job, was his training officer. On May 25, Mr. Kueng’s third day on the job, Mr. Kueng and Mr. Lane, now partnered up despite both being freshly minted rookies, were the first officers to answer a call of a counterfeit $20 bill being passed at a corner store. They found Mr. Floyd in a car outside.

After they failed to get Mr. Floyd into the back of a squad car, Mr. Chauvin and Tou Thao, another officer, showed up.
As Mr. Chauvin jammed his knee into the back of Mr. Floyd’s neck, Mr. Kueng held down Mr. Floyd’s back, according to a probable cause statement filed by prosecutors.

Mr. Chauvin kept his knee there as Mr. Floyd repeated “I can’t breathe” and “mama” and “please.” Through the passing minutes, Mr. Kueng did nothing to intervene, prosecutors say. After Mr. Floyd stopped moving, Mr. Kueng checked Mr. Floyd’s pulse. “I couldn’t find one,” Mr. Kueng told the other officers.

A day after Mr. Floyd’s death, Mr. Jones learned that Mr. Kueng was one of the officers who had been present. Around midnight, Mr. Jones called Mr. Kueng. They talked for 40 minutes — about what, Mr. Jones would not say — and they cried.
“I’m feeling a lot of sadness and a lot of disappointment,” Mr. Jones said. “A lot of us believe he should have stepped in and should have done something.”

He added: “It’s really hard. Because I do have those feelings and I won’t say I don’t. But though I feel sad about what’s occurred, he still has my unwavering support. Because we grew up together, and I love him.”
Mr. Jones said he had gone to the protests but could not bring himself to join in.

In a situation like this, shouldn't the company have informed the test writers that it would be a mono-question test ? If this is the new trend, shouldn't those new to it be made aware to avoid surprises ?

I dont think this was right of the company. Entry level candidates would have a hard time with this kind of test.
Jobs/Vacancies / Re: Mono-Question Tests ! Is This the New Aptitude Test Trend In Nigeria? by Xigima: 11:17am On Feb 10, 2018
This question is so weird that if you're not conscious of the inappropriate linear regression trick, even if you're asked to seat in the coosiest and most tastefully furnished boardroom for 2 hours you wont still think in the right direction. But if you're a sales manager who actually joins customers in preparing their shipments all the time, you will certainly know in what direction to think and even 10 seconds will be too much for you.

Though the sales director sounded arrogant in saying the person they're searching for would figure out the right answer in less than 20 seconds, I now see what he means. With this, his 20 seconds now even sounds like an understatement, too long.

The right person should be able to figure this out in 10 seconds except he's not a well-bred sales manager. From the look of things he may still be searching.

Abeg, na which multinational ooo...

Sports / The Honorable Minister Of Sports Said "EXPENDED" Not "Spended" (photo) by Xigima: 11:55pm On Dec 21, 2016
According to many of those who were present at the public audience in which the Honorable Minister of Sports defended the expenses of his ministry, the Hon. Minister actually said “EXPENDED” and not “spended” as most people chose to hear.

He used a more erudite and appropriate term within the context. If there is any embarrassment, they claim it is that of Channels TV whose audio playback blackmailed the embattled minister by mumbling his words. In accounting parlance, when money is disbursed and subsequently used or unused, it is said to be “EXPENDED”. The Hon. Minister used the perfectly correct terminology which most grammarians obviously do not comprehend. As such, if anyone was expecting him to use the less appropriate term “SPENT”, then it isn’t their lucky day…

President Obama will be hosting for the first time, 500 eligible young African leaders from Nigeria and other parts of Africa mid next year. Anybody who feels he has what it takes to be classified as a young african leader is free to apply or anyone who has exemplified leadership qualities in his province. Applications are pouring in now so dont wait ......

....................................................

President's Young African Leaders Initiative

The Obama Administration’s Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) is a long-term effort to invest in the next generation of African leaders and strengthen partnerships between the United States and Africa. This wide-ranging effort has been led by the White House and the U.S. Department of State in partnership with the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and the Peace Corps. The next phase of YALI will develop a prestigious network of leaders across critical sectors, cement stronger ties to the United States, and offer follow-on leadership opportunities in Africa, with the goal of strengthening democratic institutions and spurring economic growth. The Department of State has supported the Initiative through a series of high-profile forums with youth leaders including the President’s Young African Leaders Forum (August 2010), First Lady’s Young African Women Leaders Forum (June 2011), and Young African Leaders Innovation Summit and Mentoring Partnership (2012) in addition to more than 2,000 subsequent youth programs in sub-Saharan Africa.

The President’s Young African Leaders Initiative has developed a variety of approaches and programs have been tried and tested in Washington, at U.S. Embassies and USAID mission in Africa, and by the most important element – young African leaders. The essential elements of the program, now taking root and generating sustaining momentum include:

Buy-in From the Highest Levels of the U.S. Government: With the participation of the President and First Lady in the 2010 and 2011 Young African Leaders Forums, as well as outreach to youth from other cabinet-level officials like [former] Secretary Clinton and Administrator Shah, U.S. Government officials at the highest levels are promoting the importance of youth engagement globally, and in Africa specifically.

Supporting Policy Frameworks: The U.S. Strategy Toward Sub-Saharan Africa, released in June 2012, prioritizes efforts to empower the next generation of African leadership. President Obama said the following in announcing the Strategy: “These young men and women have shown time and again the willingness and ability to change their communities and their countries for the better, and the United States will continue to be their steadfast ally and partner. America’s partnership with this new generation of Africans will extend beyond our Government to the broad and deepening relationships between our peoples, businesses, and institutions. These roots will drive our path to a future of democracy, peace, and prosperity for generations to come.”As a result, State and USAID have designed youth policy frameworks that move youth from the periphery to the center of economic and political development.

“Top-down” Meets a “Grassroots” Approach: In addition to these seminal events, U.S. Embassies across sub-Saharan Africa have embraced youth engagement as a policy priority by conducting over 2,000 youth-targeted programs and establishing Embassy Youth Councils in more than 20 countries. Through this outreach and ongoing Peace Corps and USAID youth programming, the U.S. Government is creating a continuing dialogue with youth leaders as they outline their own visions for Africa’s future. The result is an initiative that has developed in an organic manner, based on need, dialogue, and collaboration.

Response From Young African Leaders: Young leaders in sub-Saharan Africa are responding to U.S. efforts to empower youth, convene dialogues, and foster networks by taking advantage of these opportunities to establish their own platforms to impact their communities. Since 2010, the State Department has supported approximately 160 exchange participants through an International Visitors Leadership Program specifically designed for young African leaders under the age of 35. The State Department has also awarded more than $750,000 in small grants to alumni groups supporting youth development in Africa—many of these projects are developed and implemented by YALI alumni. In 2012 USAID awarded two grants totaling $1.3 million to support the core principles of YALI, allowing significant and ongoing investments in young leaders including professional training, access to mentorship, and networking opportunities in Africa. As the U.S. Government continues to partner with young leaders through this Presidential Initiative, these efforts will increase U.S. public and private sector engagement with the continent and enrich young leaders' potential to contribute to economic, political, and social development of Africa.

Boko Haram suspects kidnap French priest in Northern Cameroon

France said it is trying to confirm the identity of the kidnappers. Cameroonian authorities, on Thursday, said gunmen had kidnapped a French priest working in the lawless region of northern Cameroon; nine months after Boko Haram members seized a French family in the same area.

A church official told Radio France International, RFI, that English-speaking gunmen burst into the parish Church of Nguetchewe, a village some 10 km from the Nigerian border, demanding money on Wednesday night.

The official said when the gunmen discovered the priest, Georges Vandenbeusch, they marched him bare-foot across the village and fled on motorbikes.

Also, the Vicar-General of Maroua Village, Henri Djionyang, told RFI that some motorbikes later crossed the frontier to Nigeria and their riders started to celebrate, adding that “it is likely the gunmen took the priest to Nigeria.’’

The Far North province of Cameroon is francophone, but English is the language of neighbouring community in Nigeria.

The kidnapping was the latest in a series of attacks on French targets in West Africa since France launched a military intervention in Mali in January to oust al Qaeda Islamists there.

Nigeria had complained that the Far North was being used by Boko Haram militants to transport weapons and appealed to Cameroon to tighten border security.

The U.S. formally designated Boko Haram and another Nigerian Islamist militant group, Ansaru, as foreign terrorist organisations on Wednesday, making it a crime to provide them with material support.

Meanwhile, France’s Foreign Ministry said checks were underway to establish the identity of the kidnappers.

Augustine Fonka Awa, the governor of Cameroon’s Far North region, told Reuters that he had gone to Nguetchewe with security forces to investigate the kidnapping but expressed fears that the priest had been taken to Nigeria.

Mr. Vandenbeusch arrived in Cameroon in 2011, having previously been a priest in the Paris suburb of Sceaux and decided to stay in the region, which France considers to be high risk for kidnappings and warned its citizens to leave.

Alain Marsaud, a French lawmaker representing voters based overseas, told France Info radio that Mr. Vandenbeusch was in a meeting with some nuns and other people when the armed men took him.

“We have good reasons to believe that it may have been people from Nigeria and Boko Haram in particular,” Mr. Marsaud said.

When it comes to exportation, courage is a very strong factor o. The only thing is that we live today in a totally different world. A world where courage can be mastered. What I mean is, with the amount of technology we have today and the good crop of market analysts practicing in Nigeria, one can very well read and interprete the signs of the times and so march on into the market with courage. The good thing about this is that the Nigerian government is solidly behind its exporters so it is usually quite easy to navigate through the bottlenecks when it concerns exportation epecially to Ecowas and Cemac countries. You need to listen to Dr. Aganga speak on this and you'll know how serious the government is in boosting non-oil exports.

Nigeria Exports Non-Oil Products To 103 Countries – Aganga
LEADERSHIP EDITORS on May 3, 2012 - 7:23pm

Dr Olusegun Aganga, the Minister of Trade and Investment, says the country exports about 117 non-oil products to 103 countries annually.
Aganga said this on Thursday in Abuja at the Ministerial briefing to mark this year’s democracy day and the first anniversary of President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration.
He said that Nigeria had 5,300 products but exports only 117, adding that there was need for diversification.
``This means we have to diversify by moving to value added products, we have the market and raw materials.
``It is time to become an industrialised nation by focusing on the area where we have comparative and competitive advantage.’’
Aganga said that a new trade policy had been put in place by the administration, the first in the past 10 years, to boost Nigeria’s domestic, regional and international trade as well as facilitate the inflow of investments into the country.
He said the country had an advantage in Agriculture, which had necessitated the repositioning of the sector.
``Due to the revamping and strengthening of the Federal Produce Inspection Service (FPIS), a total of 265,588 metric tons of agricultural products were inspected.
``As a result of this, export volumes increased by 17.23 per cent and export values by 23. 9 per cent.’’
The minister said that Nigeria had attracted a lot of investments in spite of the security challenges it was presently facing as well as provided a haven for investors due to its large workforce and market in Africa.
Aganga, however, regretted that out of 84 million acres of arable land in Nigeria, only 40 per cent were being utilised.
He said he had visited over 12 countries to attract investments to Nigeria, adding that the visits had started yielding positive results.
To this end, he said, the ministry had established a trade and investment council with Australia.
According to him, efforts are being made toward establishing similar councils with other countries, including China, Qatar and Brazil.
Aganga said that an MoU had also been signed with an American firm to establish power plants that could produce 10,000 megawatts of electricity as well as assemble locomotives in Nigeria.
Earlier, the Minister of Information, Mr Labaran Maku, said that Nigeria would surmount its present security challenges and move forward as the fastest growing economy in sub-Saharan Africa.
He congratulated journalists in the country on the occasion of the World Press Freedom Day and appealed to them to ensure ``balance, probity and integrity’’ in their reportage.

My company also had the same issue and we searched far and wide before we luckily came across a really nice and efficient company that does just that. The company is very well run and easy to deal with. The guy that runs it speaks very fluent French and English. His marketing and strategy skills are also quite advanced with regards to that of your average Nigerian sales manager. They’re somewhere in Yaba. The company is called NELISS International I think (not sure again). I’m sure if you google NELISS International or neliss dot com something will come up. Wish you luck !

‘He slept with 4 of us and then paraded us Unclad’
•Girl petitions police over assault
From TUNDE RAHEEM, Akure
Friday November 04, 2011

It is one sight that will surely shock many people. After all, it’s not everyday that four ladies are stripped Unclad and forced to walk Unclad in the streets. For suspecting some four girls of pilfering the sum of N9, 000 from him after a night of fun at a hotel in Akure, the Ondo State capital, a man allegedly took the law into his hands and subjected his erstwhile friends to a bizarre and humiliating treatment.

The man, said to be a popular figure in the Ondo State capital, was said to have ordered his associates to strip the girls Unclad. According to one of the girls, he then forced them to walk round the hotel premises and the adjoining street right in their birthday suits!
The incident allegedly took place in Akure on Friday, October 21, 2011.
Already, one of the girls has dispatched a petition to the state Commissioner of Police, asking him to investigate the incident and bring the suspect to book.

Efforts by our correspondent to get the man’s reaction were unsuccessful, as his lines were unreachable. But one of his associates, who refused to mention his name, said the girls deserved whatever punishment they got. “They are thieves and they should be dealt with,” he asserted.
It was learnt that the man had retired to the hotel in company with the girls after spending some hours at a night club in the city. The man and the four girls slept in the same room in the hotel.
Our reporter gathered that early the following morning, he raised the alarm that one of the girls had stolen N9, 000 from him, a development that led to a thorough search of all the girls.

Apparently not satisfied that the money was not found on any of the girls, the man reportedly called some other men into the room. As soon as they arrived, they allegedly set to work. They were said to have beat the girls, stripped them Unclad and ordered them to walk Unclad within and outside the hotel.
The man and his lieutenants, after the humiliation, reportedly threatened to further deal with the girls if the incident was reported to security operatives.
A petition written by one of the victims, Miss Dayo Richard, to the police commissioner, was entitled Complaint of assault, inhuman and degrading treatment done to me by one Mr. Ade Fayeun (aka Ade Basket). Copies of the document were made available to journalists.

The petition reads in part:
“I write to lodge the complaint against one Mr. Ade Fayeun, popularly called Ade Basket, on the assault, inhuman and degrading treatment done to my person.
“On Friday, 21st of October, 2011, I and one other lady friend were at the Plaza Motel Akure in company with other friends. Mr. Ade Fayeun and other friends of his were at the motel too on that fateful day.
“At about quarter after one, we left the venue of the event for the room where about five of us slept, including Mr. Ade Fayeun. The following morning, at about 9am, Mr. Fayeun raised the alarm that he couldn’t find his N9, 000 and that everybody in the room must be searched. Gender differences notwithstanding, he forcefully searched us all and nothing was found on me.

“Not satisfied with the result, he called his boys on phone and when his boys arrived the scene, they held us down, beat us and inflicted injury on me.
“Mr. Fayeun later tore our clothes and striped us Unclad in the glare of the public. After that, he, in company with his boys (sic) forced us out of the motel premises and made us to walk Unclad in the street that morning.
“Mr. Fayeun went ahead to post the Unclad picture he took while at the premises of the motel on the internet. Friends and family members who saw the picture on the net have called me on several occasions.

“This assault, inhuman and degrading treatment has done irreparable damage to us and my person in particular.
“I hereby call on the Nigeria Police to help bring Mr. Ade Fayeun to book as poor citizens like us must not be allowed to suffer undignified and inhuman treatment in the hands of an individual who by status is a citizen like myself.
“Though he boasted that he enjoys official protection from the political class, I believe the police will rise up to the matter and ensure that justice is done on the matter.”

Police Public Relations Officer in Ondo State, Mr. Adeniran Aremu, a deputy superintendent of police (DSP) confirmed that the command had received Miss Dayo Richard’s petition. He said the command was already investigating the matter.
