geeez: You're just illusioned. All kidnappings in the SW are reported and if you have the privilege of owning a blackberry or signed on twitter, you would have noticed that every person that got kidnapped made was displayed as someone's avatar or had his or her picture tweeted and retweeted.

You're just a sorry case I must say
Buhahahaha! You mean all the secret gbomogbomo which also involves Yoruba Obas killing people for Oro rituals are reported? Reported by whom? You are deluded, dude.

^^^^^^I do not care about kidnapping in the SE and SS because those people are not in denial but have been trying to solve it. Read the talking point of this thread. I am interesting in reminding you Yoruba deniers that worse kidnappings go on in the SW; many are unreported deliberately by Yoruba press; many are falsely blamed on others, while many other kidnapping incidences happen in remote villages and therefore go unnoticed. Can you define what gbomogbomo means and its frequency of occurrence in the SW? Can you tell us the history of gbmogbomo? With the spate of human ritualism in the SW, 10s of 1000s have been killed by ritual kidnappers unnoticed.

He said the offence was contrary to Sections 517, 365 and 327 of the Criminal Code.

The accused persons pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Ondo Commissioner’s Daughter Kidnapped

By Yemi Akintomide , Correspondent, Akure

A four-man gang of stormed Akure, Ondo State capital, on Sunday evening and kidnapped the daughter of the State Commissioner for Works, Miss Yemi Omogunwa.

Omogunwa’s daughter was kidnapped along James Adegoke Street, off Oke Ijebu, a stone throw from her residence.

Eye witness account said that the 27-year-old girl and student of University of Cairo, was walking along James Adegoke street when the kidnappers accosted her led her to their waiting car which zoomed off to an unknown destination.

According to the witness account, “when I saw her discussing with a man I greeted her, but she did not respond as the boy was leading her to a car where three men were already seated and the car moved away. It pained me that she did not respond to my greetings but I didn’t know they were kidnappers.”

The source informed that when it was late in the night and she did not return, her parents called her GSM line, which had been switched off.

It was gathered that a search party was organised while the commissioner went to the police station to report the incident.

They were said to have demanded for a ransom of N30 million from the commissioner before his daughter could be released.

The suspects on parade
FOUR members of a seven-man kidnapping gang that operated in Ikorodu and neighbouring communities, and kidnapped and killed a businessman, have been arrested by the police.

The arrested suspects: Wahab Mutairu, Aderinola Olanrewaju ,Obuso Abdulfatai and Kelvin Abdul, had in September kidnapped and killed a business man identified as Akinsanya Johnson Akinlade.

They were arrested by men of the Criminal Investigation Department of the State police, during an attempt to collect three million naira ransom from the family, after the man had been butchered to death.

The police in the state were also on the trail of the runaway members of the gang, especially the leader, Sodiq alias "No face”, who was accused of killing Akinlade.

Crime & Security gathered that the whole incident started on August 31, 2012, when a gang of gunmen attacked the Akinlade family while trying to drive home into their Ibeshe, Ikorodu home.

The kidnappers forced the family into their compound and ransacked all the rooms in the building, where they not only made away with money and other valuables including: mobile phones, laptops, jewellery and other accessories, but also the breadwinner of the home.

The image maker, Lagos State Police Command, Ngozi Braide, while speaking with Crime & Security confirmed Akinlade's death and added that the police were on the trail of other members of the gang.

Braide further added that the case was initially reported at Ipakodo and that it was transferred to the CID state headquarters where the suspects were arrested.

Twenty three-year-old Mutairu, in a chat with Crime & Security, confessed that the gang actually kidnapped and killed the business man. He, however, insisted that the death was a mistake and not the plan of the gang.

Mutairu accused the run-away leader of the gang of killing the deceased Akinlade and added that the man was trying to raise an alarm when Sodiq went for his cutlass and "started cutting him in many parts of his body."

The suspect, who was described by the police as the informant to the gang, also admitted to have provided the information that led to the kidnapping and eventual death of the deceased businessman.

Mutairu, while giving an insight into the relationship between him and Sodiq blamed the whole incident on poverty. He said that he had contacted Sodiq to help him pay his due house rent, when he was introduced to the gang.

"I met Sodiq alias "No face" at a construction site in Sagamu some years ago and we got to know that both of us stayed in Ikorodu and we became friends. After that, he told me to help him look for accommodation - a flat, and I was very surprised," Mutairu said.

"In July when my house rent was about to expire and I went to him to help me pay the rent, the condition he gave me was that I should look for a wealthy man, that if I was able to get one, my problem would be solved."

"Since then, I began to monitor this man. I didn't know him but every evening, I used to see him driving big cars to his house. For three days, I monitored him and he was always coming home at about the same time,” the suspect narrated.

He further explained that "I told Sodiq and we went to the man's house, robbed them and took the man to a bush at the back of a popular church. It was there we planned to keep him and collect money from his family before Sodiq killed him."

He claimed that other members of the gang were angry with Sodiq for killing the man but added that the deceased businessman wanted to alert people in the area.

"The man did not say anything, he was cooperating with us and we had begun negotiation with the family when the killing happened. The man saw some children who were walking in the bush and he wanted to raise an alarm but Sodiq took his machete and began to matchet him," he said.

Another member of the gang, Olanrewaju, also confessed that 'No face' killed the man, even as he claimed that he had gagged the deceased businessman before Sodiq went ahead with the evil plan.

Olanrewaju said, "When the man saw some children passing nearby, he tried to shout, but I immediately blocked his mouth while 'No face' attacked him with the cutlass on him."

Olanrewaju also confessed that he had taken part in other kidnapping incidents orchestrated by the gang in the past.

He said that he had received the sum of N105, 000 from the kidnap of an official of Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) sometimes.

The Lagos State Police Command PPRO, Braide, informed Crime & Security that the suspects would be charged with murder, conspiracy and armed robbery.

Manslaughter: Nollywood star, Ibinabo jailed

OLATUNBOSUN SOWEMIMO

Nollywood actress, Miss Ibinabo Fiberesima was yesterday convicted of murder manslaughter and sentenced to seven years imprisonment by the Igbosere division of the Lagos Magistrate Court.

The presiding magistrate, Mr. A.O. Isaac however gave her an option to pay N100,000 fine, which Saturday Champion gathered she did yesterday.

Fiberesima was last year arraigned on a one-count charge of man slaughter which she pleaded not guilty.

She was alleged to have killed a male medical doctor identified as Suraju Giwa while driving carelessly and under the influence of alcohol along Lekki/Epe Expressway in Lagos, last year.

Ibinabo was said to have been seriously drunk while driving the vehicle ( a jeep) belonging to her erstwhile lover, Daniel Wilson, in which she was with some other girls.

Confirmed sources said the deceased’s family members had last year dragged her to court, following her non-challant attitude to the issue.

Though the actress pleaded not guilty, the prosecution called five witnesses during the trial to prove its case, and all the five who, included two eye witnesses, gave detailed account of how the offence was committed, to the court.

The magistrate thus held he was totally convinced that the actress committed the offence, having looked at the circumstances surrounding the matter as well as the account of the prosecution witnesses.

He found her guilty as charged and convicted her, accordingly.

Though, she had, after making few telephone contacts, raised the N100,000 fine, the fact now remains that Ibinabo Fiberesima is a convict.

When contacted by our reporter, the convict admitted having raised and paid the fine, but on further enquiry about her trial, she banged the phone on us.

By her conviction, Nollywood now records its third stars convicted in just six months.

Saturday Champion recalls that a popular Yoruba film actress, Mrs Yetunde Taiwo Akinwande was convicted for drug trafficking in February this year, while just two weeks ago, James Oduputa was also convicted for hard drug and sentenced to eight month imprisonment, without an option of fine.
PoliticsOhanaeze Scribe Gives Condition For Constitution Review by Xris74(op): 6:41pm On Aug 18, 2007
Ohanaeze Scribe Gives Condition For Constitution Review
FROM LAWRENCE NJOKU (ENUGU)
THE Igbo socio-political group, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has restated its position on the review of the nation's constitution, saying such could only be accepted if it will address what it described as the imbalance in the creation of states and adjustment in the boundaries which has ceded some Igbo areas to other sections of the country.

Secretary General of the organisation, Col. Joe Achuzia (rtd), said in Enugu yesterday that until the imbalances are addressed, agitations from the various zones will not abate. He expressed regret that the issue had always been glossed over by previous administrations.

Achuzia faulted the impression in certain quarters that the agitation for Biafra is being orchestrated by core Igbo states, insisting that such cause is being championed by those who benefited from the old system that gave rise to the creation of states across the country.

He said it was unfair that only eastern zone has been existing with an unequal number of states when compared with others, alleging that it is part of efforts to continue the marginalization of the zone.

He said some areas belonging to Ndigbo during the state creation " both in the South and North were cut off and ceded to other states in the country."

He added: " We want them brought back within the mainstream of Igboland so as to enable us have our territory back as it used to be. In the South, the same thing happened to the effect that most of the landmass in Owerri now belong to another state as minority in those states. That is the case in parts of Benue and others."

Achuzia took a swipe at those who see Biafra as an Igbo cause, explaining that " the Biafra cause is not an Igbo cause, it is a regional affair comprising five ethnic groups made of Efik, Ibibo, Ijaw, Ogoni and Ibo. These five ethnic groups combined during the search for the name of the region, when they wanted Enyimba State, but the others disagreed because it is an Ibo name. It took several names before we finally decided to use the Biafra. Therefore, Biafra doesn't belong to the Ibo, it is only the mischief makers that tie it to the Ibos."

On the issues of presidency, the Ohanaeze scribe, boss said: " We have no authority to change the situation but come next four years, we will still take our stand because we believe that since the war ended in 1970, the rest of Nigeria has no right to tell us that we have no right to lead this nation the way the West has done and the North has consistently done."

Militants demand N500m from Agagu
By Femi Makinde, Akure
Published: Friday, 17 Aug 2007
Some militants operating in the Niger-Delta have demanded N500m from the Ondo State Governor, Dr. Olusegun Agagu.

The demand was made by the Movement for the Emancipation of Niger-Delta (western fringe) in a statement issued by one Chief Ibeseikumo Biku and distributed to journalists in Akure on Thursday.

According to the unsigned statement by Biku, “the money will be used to demobilise stranded militants allegedly recruited to vote for Agagu during the April poll.”

He said, ” We demand in strongest terms the sum of five hundred million naira (N500m) to immediately dispatch the stranded youth in the camp back to their respective places from where they were mobilised.”Biku who is referred to as the general officer commanding the militant group said that over 500 militants were mobilised from the entire Niger Delta (i.e. from Akwa Ibom to Ondo State) to ensure Agagu’s success at the poll.

Biku claimed that some Ijaw leaders in the state, like the Secretary to the State Government, Mr. D.I. Kekemeke, Mr. Kingsley Kuku and others represented the governor in reaching the agreement with the militants.

He said that the people of Ese-Odo would not have voted for Agagu if not for the assurance they were given by these notable Ijaw leaders in the area.

Biku also warned the Ijaw leaders whom he said represented the governor to stay away from ”our territory as we declare them wanted.”

He added that the militants had concluded plans to teach the negotiators and the state government a very bitter lesson any moment from now.

“The arrangement on the ground are such that will not only embarrass the government but is capable of forcing Dr. Agagu to pack out of the state. The government should not forget too soon that we have duplicates of all the results of the elections that took place in our camp. If that happens the government should take the blame,” Biku said.

But the Governor denied ever reaching an agreement with the militant group nor any group for his re-election.

The governor who spoke through his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Yemi Olowolabi, to our correspondent on the telephone said that he did not need to sign any pact with any militant before winning an election.

According to him, the governor did not enter into any agreement with the militants either by himself or by proxy.

He said, ” Dr. Agagu cannot and does not need to enter into any agreement with any body before he wins elections. The people of Ese-Odo Local Government Area voted massively for the governor on the account of his excellent performance which have brought about transformation in the lives of the people. The issue of the governor reaching an agreement with the people does not arise at all.

“Here is a government which tarred over 600 kilometres of roads in about four years, this is unprecedented. He constructed a road to link the Ese-Odo with the upland. He did the same in Ilaje Local Government Area. Ondo State is also the most peaceful oil-producing state in Nigeria, this is so because of prevalence of justice and equity in the management of the oil resources. Honestly, there was no need for such agreement.”

North: Where rulership and penury reign concommitantly
By Nigerian, true and true.

THE Guardian Newspaper of Tuesday August 7, 2007, carried a caption "Governors, Emirs decry poverty in the North. The article was the summary of a series of meetings held by the 19 Northern State Governors and later with northern traditional rulers.

I read the article with great interest. I am a Nigerian, though not from the Northern part, but one who has high regard for any Nigerian of Northern origin. I lived in so many parts of the North and I must confess that they are really very good people. To me, they are hospitable people.

Unfortunately, just as these leaders of thought did mention, the situation in the northern part of this country demands serious attention. If any one is to tackle the situation, there must be a comprehensive arrangement. This must start with education. Education is the best commodity to be given to man. I would advise that the educational system should be revolutionised. The gains of this may not be immediate, but it is about the only remedy to the situation. According to an educational survey, most of the northern states are classified as educationally disadvantaged states.

The purpose of education is not to get money but knowledge, which would enable man think correctly, make correct judgments, understand the signs of change and embrace and adapt to changes. How can one survive in a technologically driven economy without being literate? It is said that one perishes without knowledge.

It is good to borrow a leaf from the works of Chief Awolowo. He gave the Yorubas education. He identified the relevance of education early enough and ensured his people embraced it. Today, they are reaping that fruit which seed was sown years back. What we are seeing today in the North is the fruit of seeds sown long before now.

Empowerment is another factor that needs to be considered. It is obvious that qualitative education is very expensive. This makes only those with sound economic power to afford qualitative education. This is also lacking. This lack therefore recycles poverty. The poor know that education is good and relevant they also can not send their children to school. This may suggest that what the parents suffered the children may also experience.

Nigerians from the Eastern region saw that they were economically handicapped after the civil war and they devised survival strategies. One of the strategies they devised was the "system of master - servant relationship". This system involves some one who has not got sufficient funds to start a business to go to another to serve him for a period of time. Some spent four to five years in this relationship. many of them are wealthy today.

They went deep into commerce. Before one could notice what was happening, they have gotten hold of economic power. I may not mean having so much but one can hardly see a family without one or more graduates in the East. Infact, the east has been in the fore-front of education in recent times. Almost every family can boast of some one whose business assets are worth over a million. They are so skilful and enterprising that wherever wares are displayed, there is a possibility that there is an Easterner around.

Another issue that needs to be seen from a very real perspective is the Northerner's system of domestic management. Most times, it is the men only that bear the financial responsibility. Considering the economic situation in the country today, any family that is planned on a single source of income would definitely find things difficult.

Regrettably, the region has been greatly blessed with leaders. These highly respected people have not really made much impact in the lives of others. There are a good number of Nigerians of Northern origin who can use their influence to bring multi-billion naira investments to the region. The fallen groundnut pyramids can still be resurrected; while livestock farming which today is being done in a subsistent way can be mechanised.

Direction should also be looked at very critically. There should be systems that direct people. Such should take into consideration contemporary issues. Today, so many Nigerians are millionaires by acting in home videos. Many of them are non-Northerners. I personally would provide support in any way I can, to see that whoever is challenged in any way is helped out. Governors, Emirs, the people themselves, may your dreams come to fruition.

Petrel of Ibadan politics, High Chief Lamidi Adedibu, returned to Ibadan on Wednesday, after two weeks medical check-up overseas, with a definitive statement that he is still in control of Oyo politics.

Adedibu’s statement was a contradiction to the stand of Olubadan-elect, Oba Samuel Odulana Odugade 1, that the 13 members of the Olubadan-in-council should jettison partisan politics or drop their traditional titles to play politics.

Addressing journalists at his Molete residence, Ibadan, yesterday, Adedibu, surrounded by his teeming supporters, including the deputy governor, Hon.Taofeek Arapaja and Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Hon. Moruf Atilola, however, pledged to cooperate with the new monarch to ensure peace, progress and development of Ibadanland. “I maintain my stand. Whatever he might say about me and whatever he wishes to say about me, he is my Oba. I will never say anything to the contrary to what the Olubadan has said. He is my father and I am one of his cabinet members.

“But in respect of other people, who are making comments, they are political learners. They are mixing it up with politics and religion. By the will of God, here we are. The speaker of the state House of Assembly is here. The deputy governor is here. The former deputy governor is also here. By the will of God, I am the controller of politics here. We don’t need to join issues with any other people. I have no other comment than to say glory be to God. The political power of this state is in my hand,” Adedibu stated.

Adedibu refused to comment on the controversies generated by his actual position in the Olubadan line, which Oba Odugade said it was Ekarun-Olubadan and not Ekerin-Olubadan as being claimed by the old politician.
He nonetheless disclosed that he would be at the coronation ceremony physically as any Ibadan chief of his rank.

On the on-going Chief Alex Ekwueme-led reconciliation committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the octogenarian politician explained that those, who went to the Abeokuta sitting of the committee were those aggrieved with the power shift presently being witnessed in the state.

“Those people that complained from Oyo State are mainly from Ibadan and no other place within the state. They include Senator Rashidi Ladoja, Alhaji Yekini Adeojo and Chief Richard Akinjide. Their complaint was on power shift and I still maintain that power must shift and it has shifted. So what is their complaint? They are still nursing the ambition of becoming governor but we have produced four governors. They should bear it,” he added

Soldier beats up lady for shunning advances

LAST Friday was a sad day for the runaway girl-friend of an army officer. The lady  was caught and beaten seriously at First Gate bus stop just after Mile Two bridge.

The military officer who was in a vehicle heading towards Mile Two sighted the lady and immediately  ordered the  driver to stop.  He then jumped down from the bus, removed his belt and started flogging the lady.

When people gathered to rescue the lady from  him, he said  that they should leave him to deal with her and  teach her the lesson of her life. He said the lady duped him adding that  she was a thief. She collected my N5,000 and ran away since two months ago.
Said he:  “Everyday is for the thief, one day is for the owner.”
“I worked for that money, she will suffer for it. She thought she was wise.”

Immediately, the lady shouted : “Who is a thief?   Is it by force?  Did I come and take the money from your house?”
She changed to pidgin English : “If I say I no do again na by force?”  The crowd  bust into laughter.  Several persons  said: “Oga officer leave her now. Talk to her gently, whether she go change her mind instead of beating her.”

The officer obviously embarrassed suddenly  left the girl, jumped into a bus and went  away.
The lady then shouted: “Yeye man, you think say I be street girl. Shameless man. I don chop that N5,000. You no fit collect am again, stupid man”.
